And we're starting to get into the cleanup mode of these floods. And it's showing us a lot of damage. Tony Katz, 93 WIBC, good morning. Good to be with you. Saw those photos yesterday at a Cambridge city. Just the streets lined with... With wood, with debris, with furniture, everything. Absolutely flooded out. And there are already now the conversations about infrastructure. And as we discussed, of all the things that we're going to see, one of them is it's a lot of standing water and a lot of summer still left to go. Are we about to see more mosquitoes and more mosquito-borne illnesses? I'm not trying to... Fearmonger, I'm saying there are things that lead to other things. No one should be surprised by this at all. You have still have people who are unable to get back to their homes. You have businesses that were absolutely underwater. You're going to start seeing cars towed in to dealerships and mechanics that were all underwater. It's going to be a very weird thing also for the used car market because it's something you're going to have to look for because water damage is different than other damage. I noticed over there from our news gathering partners at Fox 59. Do we need to be looking at how we build to better handle this type of thing? Well, if you don't have this type of flooding, but every 113 years, it's going to be a harder argument. Our argument is different. It isn't that everything was built wrong and, oh, we don't have the right engineering. I wouldn't have the capacity to say such a thing. I don't have that expertise. Rather, I want to take a look at what we do have and what these floodwaters have done to the areas that aren't washed away. What is the effect there? What's coming? What's brewing underneath? Can we even tell? What soil, what erosion took place underneath that's going to lead to a hollowing out? Maybe you've never seen a sinkhole in your life. A sinkhole is super creepy, freaky weird. The road is fine. Then the road swallows you whole. That's... Freaky, weird. We take a look at all these businesses, those foundations, those structures. What are we going to find out has to come down? Because it's just, you're just waiting for the problem. These are the things that are coming next. When we talk about the fact that we don't have a real understanding of where the damage is, we really don't. We are not there yet. And as for Hamilton County, which has now decided to prohibit travel on the White River, it's an order from the county that residents may not kayak, canoe, swim, tube, wait, or otherwise enter the river until further notice. We've seen people doing a lot of stupid things on floodwaters, according to Commissioner Christine Sam Altman, swimming, jet skiing, you name it. People need to understand this is a light or death situation we're currently in. With all due respect to the Commissioner.

I think they get it, and I will go a step further. I don't know if they get it. Part of me doesn't care. If the bicyclist of their own volition, not not seeing it, it was dark or something of their own volition says, I see a barricade, I don't care, I'm riding my bike. And then because there's a gaping hole, they don't see it, they got killed. It is a terrible story. But what were you doing riding around a barricade if that was the reporting, if that's the case? If someone goes in the water, is the argument, well, we have to rescue them from the water? That could be an argument as to why we shouldn't have this. But people want to be fools. So the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus, they want to sue Governor Braun. They're saying that when the governor eliminated race and sex-based preferences in the Minority and Women's Business Enterprise Program, he did so without legislative approval. He found that the program is unconstitutional. You take a look at a 1983 law. You have Senator Greg Taylor, Democrat, saying if the governor wants to change the law, the governor should run for state representative or state Senate. He is the executive. The executive branch is to execute the laws of the state of Indiana. And to determine whether or not a statute is constitutional, you have to go through a court proceeding. Okay. I have no interest in supplying anything based on some level of affirmative action nonsense that, for example, the Supreme Court has already struck down regarding college admissions. No, absolutely not. Well, it's the only way to make things fair. I would disagree wholeheartedly. I believe that it is an actual nod to bigotry. It's a mistake. If you start showing these shovels in the ground and projects happening, great. We hear about things, and I do like it. And we hear about things making moves. And I like it. Let us see result. Because what we have now is sustained inflation, not increased inflation. And that's where anybody looking at the tariffs has to go, well, that's kind of amazing. These tariffs everywhere, these blanket tariffs based on trade deficits, which makes no economic sense. I'm happy to argue it with Scott Bessent or anybody else. It doesn't. But the argument was what it was going to make inflation explode. And it didn't. It's really fascinating. But it has kept inflation way higher than we want it. And right now it's been creeping up a little bit. And this was going to be a 50% tariff on some Canadian products because of, I forget what Canada did to be upsetting. I forget what it was that that bothered Trump in this latest one. What we have to do with Canada is say, listen, we don't want to do this. We shouldn't do this. But those Chinese electric vehicles, yeah, you can't bring them into North America. No. No, no, absolutely not. The answer is no. We consider that a threat and we'll take action. You can't allow a Chinese EV into Canada. You can't have it. And no Chinese EV can be allowed in the United States. You can't drive it into the U.S.

We should consider it a deadly weapon and we should treat the offender with that type of force. Oh, ask me any time. I a thousand percent believe it. So we're going to keep our eyes on this. Also, we get it. You're angry with Trump about the 51st date and all that jazz. You're still taking it out on bourbon. Now, it's not the only reason bourbon sales are down. It's a part of a story. They're going to show up, vote for Angie Nixon and not vote for you. These people will not yield. But this is the second story, right? It was Hakeem Jeffries the other day, and I talked about it in depth. And it's now David Jolly. They want to try and put the DSA, those communists, over there. You invited them into the house. Horrifyingly bad polling is what we discussed when we took a look at those races in Michigan and Wisconsin. We discussed this the other day that there was polling showing the. Communist candidate. And I know that they get offended when you call them communist, but it is what it is based on their own admission. I'm not engaged in hyperbole. I had this debate yesterday with former Congressman Dennis Kucinich. He thinks it's name calling. I reject the premise. They are the ones who want to abolish the Senate. They are the ones who want to abolish police. They are the ones who believe that they should be seizing the means of production. They are what they are. The only thing they haven't done is grown the beard of Karl Marx, but everything else is all about some celebration of his horror show. So I say it the way it is. And we saw that, for example, in Wisconsin, this Francesca Hong, who nutty, she was beyond double digits ahead of this guy by the name of David Crowley. in the Democratic field running for the Democratic nomination to be governor of Wisconsin. She's up 22 points in some, 13 points in others. It's crazy. She loses by half a point. And we said, how in the world did the polling get it so wrong? They got it wrong in Michigan too. How is this possible? And then came this story out of Los Angeles. And the story out of Los Angeles was that, Karen Bass, remember that whole race and how they screwed Spencer Pratt and they did. You can't get me to believe otherwise, but I have to move on with my life. Karen Bass was leading the communist Nithya Raman by 12 points. They've got the election in November. 12 points. Karen Bass, who let the city burn, is beating this communist.

560 Los Angeles voters, a margin of error of 4.1. Now, I would have thrown that poll out immediately. The group that did this poll is a group called Median Strategies. Same group that did the poll about Francesca Hong in Wisconsin, where she's up by 22 points. What did we learn? There was never a poll. There was no polling. There was no polling. They made it up. They made up the whole thing. It was a social experiment. The polling got pushed by the polling outfits and by those who do the aggregation. Karen Bass herself tweeted and talked about this poll. Media and strategies was created as a short-term social experiment to examine how purported polling information could enter and spread through the political information ecosystem without independent verification. We are not seeking publicity or attribution for the individuals involved and are declining interviews.

The poll in that they put out this lie in California said that 16% of its respondents were Pratt voters who were now going to vote for Karen Bass. They were trying to tilt things in her direction. What does this tell us? It tells us that we were accurate to say there's a problem here. This doesn't make any sense. This makes no sense whatsoever. We had it correct from the beginning. We had it before other people even started talking about it. What we didn't have correct was the why. Although I can point to other polls of actual polling outfits that show, hmm, that's a legit issue with their polling and the questions they're asking and who they're asking the questions and whether or not they're getting honest answers, etc. The pollsters. now have to be the people who respond here. And I'm telling you I'm not going to buy into any of it. I know a few polling outfits and operations and when they give me an amalgam of information, I'll share it with you. Otherwise, none of it. None of it can be trusted. Anything that gets touted can't be trusted. Can't be. This is a serious issue. This isn't just, you know, the effects of AI, which, oh, you'll be seeing that next. This is let's screw at the public trust. They did it well. They did it well. I would argue that anybody within the public sphere commenting on these things is different than a candidate or a... elected official utilizing one of these things to their advantage without having done the vetting. They have a greater responsibility. But media and strategies is a fraud and now everything is suspect. The few polling operations I know and I know that have been well verified, I'll talk about them when they've got enough data to show. But trust these polls and the people who push these polls at your peril. This is awful. that we have to now be in this world of everything is suspect, but everything is suspect. Remember that. You had Rod Bray saying, I'm not going to run before the leadership position. Garten, supported by President Trump, a bout of that redistricting lifestyle, he will be the guy. Ran unopposed, received unanimous support. His term will not be official until the full Senate votes in November following the election. But that's where we're at. And this is going to have some play. Meanwhile, we've got a Secretary of State race. Greg Ballard going to join us in just a few minutes. I apologize for the delay there. Good sir. The Secretary of State Race continues to be amongst the top stories in Indiana. You've got four candidates. Tony Katz, good to be with you. You have got the Democrat, Beau Bai. You have got the Republican Max Inglings. Then Greg Ballard got into the race, the former mayor of Indianapolis, where certainly a lot of people said, I'd be much happier if you ran for mayor. But he saw an opening. Was that an opening that was caused by the issues around Diego Morales? And will it still be an issue? that exists that takes place without him in the race what is it that he's trying to create with this lincoln party and is that the focus or is the position the focus now he was scheduled and there was rescheduling um We had asked what was the purpose of it. His staff has been nothing but absolutely professional. His bookers in getting things rebooked. Greg Ballard joins us right now. Secretary of State candidate. You can find more about him. Greg Ballard, B-A-L-L-A-R-D, Greg Ballard.com. Sir, I appreciate you being here. Let's start where we start with all these conversations. What do you see as the role of Secretary of State? Well, I mean, we all know they have four functions, primarily chief election officer in the business, the securities, and the auto dealers. And so that's...

Pretty common knowledge, I think, to most of your audience. I would think so by this time. But there's more to this, right? It's ironic that somebody coming from the angle that I'm coming from actually happens to be the most experienced person in the race, too, because that would usually come from the legacy party, but that's not the case this time. And I don't, at this point in time, With what's been happening in the Secretary of State's office for the last four years, I just does not look like an injury-level job to me. I think it takes someone that's experience with somebody who's been around the block a couple times, as I think I have been. But there is a bigger issue, as you mentioned. There's a bigger, there's always a bigger picture, right? Tony, you know that, I know that. You talk about the experience. You spent, of course, two terms as mayor of Indianapolis. How does that apply to the Secretary of State position? Well, just like in a state level position, you have to deal with local. You have to deal with municipalities. You have to steal with state level. You have to steal with federal level. I've done all of that. And I did it routinely for eight years of the Mayor of Indianapolis. Not to mention, I was in the Marines for 23 years. in the Gulf War back in 1991. I think most people probably know that about me also. So I've had to make a, have to make some very tough leadership calls in some very difficult situations, both in the Marines and as the mayor, which is almost an everyday occurrence, but some more public than others. And I've been, I've been through the rigor already. So, and I think where the Secretary of State's offices right now probably needs that sort of thing. Talking to Greg Ballard, a candidate for Secretary of State in Indiana, the Lincoln Party, is what he has put together to run this, one could call an independent bid, but you're creating your own political party around it. But I want to get back to the leadership conversation as you discuss the idea of it being lacking. What have you seen in the current office? that is lacking. And did you think that it was lacking even prior to Diego Morales being the Secretary of State? I'm having trouble understanding why you're asking that question. I think we all know lots of things that have happened in the office with the travel. I think most people probably know about travel expenses. You know, just so much has happened in that office. that I'm not sure we need to go over that. I'm trying not to go through all that, but the, the stuff that I think most people know there's been turmoil in the office. I think there's the way things have been done. You saw the RECAC Commission, certainly in the last month, how this is all played out, where we have, you know, the Secretary of State as the head of the RECON commission making choices based on people who we already know he has alliances with. And I think that's a big part of why I'm running for office. Like I say, there's a bigger picture to all of this. I think the offices become independence. There's not independence. I've been very open about it, and I've said it repeatedly. I will not endorse anybody. I will not donate to anybody. I want to fund rates for anybody in that office. Once I think you're in the office, I think you're out of politics.

I think that's the way that office should be run, should have been run all along, but it's not. And in the last month, we've seen very, very clearly how politics has played into that office, and I think it just needs to stop. And I think I'm the person to do that because I would tell you, none of the other candidates for Secretary of State is going to say that the office needs to be independent of politics. I'm the only one that's going to say that, but I believe it, and I think most people believe it too. Talking to Greg Ballard, candidate for Secretary of State, Greg Ballard, B-A-L-A-R-D, Greg Ballard.com. The run, you know, you talk about Diego Morales, as I brought it up because there's a personal issue and there are professional issues, and the question was proper in my asking of it. says to you, it's time to run and there's a reason to move forward with this with a party outside of the Republican Party and you ran as a Republican and won as a Republican in the mayor's race. And certainly it has for Republicans made people say, why in the world would you do this against the party that was your home? It's, one would argue, a legitimate question. I don't even know if it's a criticism. I certainly think it should be thought of as a question. You bring up, you know, the other part of your running is this Lincoln Party conversation. What's your goal there? Well, first of all, I don't see it as criticism. I understand why people say that. And being a Republican mayor in a Democratic city is almost the rarest of commodities in all of America. Because very, very few Republicans lead urban centers around the country. It's so rare, two or three at the most. And so I was unique in that regard. So that's certainly not a criticism. And I understand I have a lot of Republicans friends still. I know lots of them going to vote for me. But there is a bigger picture to this. And I've come to believe that the voting system in Indiana is very, very close. And certainly you see both parties want to close the primaries, at least that's my take on it. 20, 41% of Hoosiers see themselves as independence. Only 29% as Republicans, 21% as Democrats. I just saw this morning. I knew this already, that 45, 46% nationally see themselves as independence. And they have nowhere to go. And as the parties get more extreme in their ideology, as what I like to call purity tests now, are all over the place with both parties. The average person really has nowhere to go, and they has nobody to vote for it. And I think that's a big gap. I don't think the average person in America is represented anymore. As you know, as well as I do, you know, the Washington's farewell address. They said parties are going to be a problem in the country. If we do that, we should be voting for an individual, not for a party. And I was not there, but I am there now because both parties are going far right and far left. And it's disturbing to most people because of the gerrymandering, and as you well know, and most elections, certainly in Indiana, are determined in May. They're not determined in November. We don't have competitive general elections in November. 95% of the legislature, 95% of the legislature was determined by 10% of the people in May, in May. And so, we think.

that competitive general elections in November are the way to turn down the heat, turn down the rhetoric, to... turn to get rid of or at least less than the toxicity that's out there today if you have competitive general elections then people are actually gonna the who's ever running for office actually has to talk to the people and not go after the base because of gerrymandering because it's all determined in may it's not determined in november that's not the way the system was designed the system was designed for competitive general elections in november and we do not have that here in the state of indiana So you bring up George Washington in his farewell address. That's echoes of Madison and the Federalist papers discussing the concepts of faction and the problems therein. You're creating a political party. Doesn't that now bring us to? How do you plan to avoid that exact issue with a party structure that you're creating? It's just a curiosity. Well, that's a real good question. And the reason is that's the state law. That's the state law. You saw what I had to do. I had to get 37,000 signatures cost over $700,000. We had to do that because that was a purposeful, punitive obstacle put in the way for independence by both parties who don't want anybody messing with their kingdoms. That's what this is. And if I wanted to run again in four years, I'd have to go get 37,000 signatures again if I ran as an independent. But by state law, you form the party, you don't have to do that. So the party has to be formed to give a vehicle for independents to run in the future. Otherwise, all these independents are going to have to go someplace else. Because that's the state law. That's why we have to do it. It's not a decision other than it's the state law. And here's the fact that most people don't know. In the last two election cycles, 244 people have run as independents of ground the stake. 244. That number shocks political operatives. But how many of them won? 52%. Over a half. This is not unknown in the state of Indiana, what I'm doing. It's unknown at the state level, but it's certainly not unknown at the local level. Great ballot. Most people see this as a good vehicle to stop the extreme ideology and toxicity of both parties. And both Moderna and Merck are showing vaccine, promising vaccine trials. regarding cancer. We'll keep an eye on those as well, and those can move markets. West Texas crude, the barrel price at $85.31 and $31, really unchanged from yesterday. The Brent crude at $91.40 a barrel. The 10-year treasury down a little bit at 4.641, but still way higher than anybody could want gold prices. $4,4007 an ounce that is up $73 just today. The silver price at $64.82. Bitcoin at $64,710. And we should, as a city, engage in a little bit of a moment on this. that we understand that the USS Indianapolis, which was torpedoed on the 30th of July, 1945, is a date to be remembered. But it was today, seven years ago. Was it seven years? No, it was nine years ago. It was 2017. So it was nine years ago on this day. The wreckage of the USS Indianapolis was found 18,000 feet below. Mostly preserved. It's pretty incredible. That they were able to find it, that we had the technology to find it. But it is there. And that is worthy of remembering.
