Coming up, we'll tell you about a Boeing spokesperson offering a statement about Boeing investigating an accident reported at the Wichita plant. First we'll tell you about President Trump says the U.S. will begin escorting stranded ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Today, Fox's Jared Halperin has more from the White House. Project Freedom, President Trump says, well, guys, ships unable to transit the Strait of Hormuz through the narrow waterway controlled by Iran. In a social media post, the president says the ships are from areas of the world not in any way involved in what is taking place in the Middle East, calling it a humanitarian gesture. In a warning to Iran, President Trump also says if the operation is interfered with, it will be dealt with forcefully. Iran has severely limited oil and cargo ships from sailing through the... the straits since March, causing global fuel prices to surge. At the White House, Jared Halpern, Fox News. The Wichita City Council will be meeting on voting, rather, on whether that the city will enter a lease and service agreement with Safe Haven Baby Box tomorrow. The Safe Haven Baby Box is a specialized box where a mother can legally surrender a newborn without fear of prosecution. When a baby is placed inside, an alarm will go off. Surrendered infants are adopted by families who have registered as foster to adopt. The local Department of Family Services coordinates the adoption process. The box can already be seen in some Kansas communities. The first one in Kansas was installed in the Hutchinson Fire Station back in 2024. If the Wichita City Council approves, it will be the first Safe Haven Baby Box in Wichita. It will be installed at Fire Station No. 9, located at 350 South Edgemore. Phil Hildebrand, KNSSS News. Boeing is investigating an accident reported at its Wichita plant. Our partners at 12 News have learned this accident happened more than a week ago and that the affected employee identified by family as 53-year-old Daniel Luzier died last weekend. It is unclear if the accident is tied to the employee's death. On April 22nd, Luzier stepped on a crossbeam and fell through some floorboards at the facility. He suffered multiple broken ribs from the accident and was admitted to the hospital. He was released on April 23rd.

but died on April 26th. Lusier was an aircraft mechanic and a Boeing employee for nine years. The family is waiting on the autopsy results that will determine the official cause of death. They have hired an investigator to look into the incident. Rodney Price, KNSS News. A Boeing spokesperson offered the following statement, quote, we are conducting a thorough investigation and are supporting the employee's family and our teammates. Republicans are hoping voters will keep the majority in Congress for the rest of President Trump's second term in this year's midterm elections. Former Vice President Mike Pence tells Fox's One Nation with Brian Kilmeade. The GOP's strategy starts with selling the one big beautiful bill. Extending those tax cuts for working families, small businesses, family farms, energy independence. A man is dead after he was shot Saturday night in West Wichita. officers responded just before 6.30 p.m. to a laundromat in the 900 block of South Seneca where they found a man lying in the parking lot. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he later died. He has not been identified. Police believe the suspect confronted the victim in a targeted incident, not a random act of violence. However, the exact circumstances are still unclear. Investigators and WPD officers followed leads overnight, and just before 8.30 Sunday morning, the Wichita Police SWAT team arrested a 26-year-old suspect in the 1800 block of South Euclid Street. The suspect was arrested on a charge of felony murder. Phil Hildebrand, KNSSS News. It is 605. The Met Gala is traditionally held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, with this year's theme being costume art. The official dress code is fashion is art. The Met Gala is held every year on the first Monday in May and benefits the museum's costume institute. This year's co-chairs are Beyonce, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and former Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Following the event, the costume art exhibit at the Met will run from May 10th to January 10th, 2027, and features 25 new mannequins modeled after a variety of body types. In New York City, Tanya J. Powers, Fox News. A new cell phone ban begins today in Seattle Public Schools. The restrictions apply to all students from kindergarten through 12th grade, with cell phones turned off and stored away for the entire school day. Exceptions include medical needs and emergencies. High schoolers will have cell phone access during lunch and in between classes. SPS Superintendent Ben Sholdener making the changes just three months into the job. He says he hopes students will become more engaged, not just in learning, but in socializing as well. The new rules come amid increased efforts on social media bans for children. We need that. We need a few more good weekends. They really do. They held the Seattle Mariners to just four hits for a four-to-one win yesterday. Chris Bubbage pitched seven innings, four hits, earned one run and striking out seven. That finishes off a three-game sweep. Daniel Lynch picked up his first save of the season, going an inning and a third, was striking out three. Royals back home for a four-game series with the Cleveland Guardians. That starts tonight, and you can tune in to 975 and 1240 KFH at 6 for Royals Baseball. Not a good weekend or series for the Wichita Wind Surge. They dropped three games over the weekend to the Arkansas Travelers. That means they lost that series 5 to 1. Arkansas leapfrogs the wind surge in the standings. Now they're only above Springfield in the Texas League north. That's definitely not good. They're 13 and 14 on this young season now. That was an 8 to 4 loss at Equity Bank Park on Sunday. The Surge's next two series are on the road, so it's going to be a couple weeks before we get baseball back here at Equity Bank Park. The Surge's next two series start Tuesday tomorrow night. with the opener of a six-game series against the Amarillo Sod Poodles at 6 p.m. Again, that's tomorrow. Shocker baseball team. Another not good weekend. They got swept for the first time in a conference series over the weekend for the first time this season over the weekend in San Antonio. They lost UTSA 6 to 3 on Sunday. Wichita State out hit the roadrunners, 7 to 5. They out home run UTSA, 2 to nothing. But... It doesn't really matter much if you hand out seven walks and hit three guys. Oh, yeah. Put that many guys on base for free. Yeah, they're going to come around and you're going to get beat. So, yeah, the Shockers lose six to three on Sunday. They dropped to 26 and 23, 10 and 11 in the American Conference. Wichita State's softball did much better. They got a series sweep capped off of Memphis on the final day of the regular season, 10 to 5 Saturday afternoon at Wilkins Stadium here in Wichita. And they secured a share of the American Conference regular season title. Wichita State will be the number two seed in next week's American Conference Championship after South Florida completes a sweep of North Texas. I believe South Florida has the... tiebreaker in that. So Wichita State is going to get the number two seed. Wichita will receive a double buy into the semifinals on Friday, May 8th. The regular season championship is Wichita State's third as a member of the American, first since 2023.

Other college baseball in the region, KU is ranked number 11. Their win streak just increased to 10. They swept Arizona in Lawrence over the weekend. KU improves to 37 and 11 and 20 and 4 in conference play. They're comfortably in first place in the Big 12. They've got a four-game lead in the Big 12. I'm John Gretchen Whitmer. Ted Woodward has the morning off. Gas prices in Wichita jumped 20 cents over a 24-hour period, reaching $3.99 per gallon on Friday. The Wichita price is higher than the Kansas average of $3.87, which increased 12 cents since Thursday. Many drivers around Kansas have felt the extra price shock. Sean Stewart with AAA, Kansas, says the week has been difficult for drivers. Looking for a silver lining, Stewart says, be thankful you live in the Sunflower State. Kansas still has the sixth lowest average gas prices in the country. So it could be much worse and is much worse in a lot of states. Stewart adds that until the war in Iran is resolved, gas prices are expected to stay high. The president posted on True Social Sunday, the U.S. will help stranded ships get out of the Strait of Hormuz. Fox's Alex Hogan has been traveling with President Trump. President Trump announcing a new operation. This is Project Freedom that will allow some of the ships that have been stuck in the Strait of Hormuz to be safely escorted out of that waterway. The president posted this on Truth Social, saying, for the good of Iran, the Middle East, in the United States, we have told these countries that we will guide their ships safely out of these restricted waterways so that they can freely and ably get on with their business. The Iranians claim that the U.S. has responded to their latest proposal. President Trump posted online that he

doubted that the proposal would be acceptable. Iran says this is a 14-point plan following the U.S.'s nine-point proposal. Iran says that these were not nuclear negotiations. The White House claims Tehran's use is on the brink of collapse with leaders fighting each other for power. and Karg Island approaching fuel storage capacity, meaning it'll have to shut down oil drilling operations. Central County Commissioners could vote Wednesday to extend the pause on new data center applications. As we reported last week, the pause began in January to allow time to study the impact data centers have on energy, water, and property values. The Commission extended the pause in early March, pushing the deadline to June 11th. Commissioners could extend the deadline yet another 90 days. The board will also receive the county's quarterly financial report. Mail-in ballots are being sent out across California after candidates running for governor faced off in a debate last week. Republican candidates Steve Hill tells Fox's The Big Weekend show he can sway different types of voters to his side with some help from President Trump's endorsement. President Trump got 6.1 million votes in California in 2024. That's actually more than enough to win statewide. The U.S. Supreme Court ruling this past week that Louisiana congressional maps were unconstitutionally racial gerrymander. What happened this week is nothing less than a massive and devastating blow. not only to our democracy, but particularly to people of color in the South. All the contracts made new highs for the current move to the upside, and several contracts also made new all-time record highs on Friday. Then the trading reversed lower and closed with triple-digit losses. There was a lack of fresh market moving news to go along with that move in the market. The Linghogs, they left open chart gaps to the downside Friday and closed negative. On the close Friday, June Live Cattle, $1. lower at $253. August feeders, $1.35 lower at $372.17. And June, lean hogs, a dollar lower at 101.27. The wheat corn and soybeans closed positive Friday, but off their session highs, the month of May started with a lack of new news for our grain markets. And last week, the July, Kansas City week gained $0.25. July corn gained $0.15. And July soybeans gained $0.25 for the week. Now, the commitment of traders report Friday shows. that manage money is net long, their second largest position of all time in the egg markets. At the moment, July Can City Wheats, 4.3 quarters, lower at 6.89 and 3 quarters, July corn up a penny at 4.81 and a quarter. July soybeans, 9 cents higher, $12.1.2. June crude oil trading $3.79 higher at $105.70. The June gold is $81 lower at $4,564. July silver's down $2.

A New Mexico Attorney General Paul Torres claims the company that Meta would rather shut down in the state instead of implementing what he calls basic safety reforms. The trial is expected to last up to three weeks as New Mexico's second phase of the case against Mehta kicks off this week. A Santa Fe jury recently found meta liable for violating New Mexico's Unfair Practices Act, fining the company $375 million. The case centered on claims the company put children and teens in danger and misled consumers about safety. New Mexico's Attorney General Raul Torres says a second trial accuses the company of violating the state's public nuisance law. It calls for META to make changes to its platforms, including better age verification, an end to features, including infinite scroll, and making sure unknown adults cannot have contact with minors. META says it remains committed to safety, but is signaled it may have to pull services from the state rather than comply. Kristen Goodwin, Fox News.

And now let's take a look at yesterday's financials, or rather Friday's financials. See how the markets did before we went into the weekend. Stocks kicking off the new trading month mix with the Dow losing ground. However, the NASDAQ and S&P 500 notch fresh record closes and the tech-heavy NASDAQ trading above the 25,000 level for the first time as investors continue to digest mostly upbeat earnings reports. Tech was the best performer in the S&P 500 sectors while energy and industrials lagged. The magnificent seven big cap tech stocks were mostly higher led by Apple and Tesla. The Dow winners, Apple, Microsoft and Salesforce, the Dow decliner's. Amgen 3M and McDonald's. The Dow down 153 points, the NASDAQ hired by 22, S&P 500 up 21. Hillary Barski, Fox News. So Spirit Airlines, you know, they had the, so they were trying to merge or was trying to, you know, they went to the government, they went to the Biden administration, tried to get a bailout at one point. Trying to merge with who? Well, trying to get a buyout, basically. Okay. And couldn't happen. And so. Over the weekend, Spirit Airlines abruptly closed operations after failing to secure government funding. Okay. And basically they were trying to get, you know, help. And the government basically said, no, sorry, you know, that's not our role to bail you out. They posted a statement saying it is a great disappointment that Spirit Airlines has started winding down its global operations. Effective immediately, all flights have been canceled. Customer services no longer available. I mean, they shut down operations. It's really kind of unfortunate. Are you familiar with Spirit at all? No, not really. It's one of these low-cost carriers. I mean, I knew we had Spirit at one time flying out of Eisenhower. Correct. Or the old airport, actually. And then it stopped and then it started again. It was one of those things where it was a carrier. We couldn't really just like lock down. Right. Yeah. One of these little low-cost carriers and it just couldn't make it go of it. Okay. Well, with spirit going under, one man comes up with this brilliant idea to start a crowdfunding campaign to buy the airline. Okay. I mean, hey, why not, right?

Amazingly enough, well, here's what happens. Spirit Airlines just went bankrupt, right? I'm the guy that flew Spirit Airlines for 24 hours straight. There's more than 250 million individuals over the age of 18 in the United States. Now, if we took only 20% of them and paid basically the average fare of a Spirit Airlines flight, which is somewhere around $30 to $40,000. We could buy Spirit Airlines. This is a genius idea. We nationalize Spirit Airlines owned by the people. Airlines going. We make a new airline. Let's buy an airline. I should make it that enough for this. That's what he posted on online, okay? He posted that video online. Yeah. On Instagram. He got over 300,000 likes in the first 24 hours. The man ended up raising almost $23 million in a day and had to stop accepting pledges because the website crashed and was overloaded with traffic. of people wanting to give him money to buy the airline. All right. And he's got it set up now. Let's BuySpirit.com. The website has crashed. It's broken because within an hour he's got it set up. He's now got that is going to need to raise a lot more obviously than $23 million. Right, right. Considering they were trying to get $500 million bailout from the government. But within one day he raised. $23 million. So, I mean, who knows if he can pull it off. But this was the guy, I guess he went viral back in the day for riding the airline for a day for literally 24 hours he rode. Right. At any rate, you know, within. 24 hours, he raised $23 million in pledges. I don't know. His idea is interesting, but there are a lot of holes in that. Sure. I mean, first of all, what are your backer rewards? Somebody backs you for the price of, say, a ticket somewhere. You're going to fly them somewhere for free then? Well, how do you keep people paid if you're not being paid money to... Oh, there's all kinds of questions about it. I mean, it's really fragile. Where it actually works is this. I mean, he's talking about, you know, kind of nationalizing it for the people, whatever. Okay, so if he's going to run this as like a non-profit, it means that you don't have to have profit. Yeah, theoretically. Theoretically, it means that this is a company that doesn't have to give dividends to stockholders. It doesn't have to continually increase in worth on paper to please its stockholders and its shareholders and keep them from selling. On the other hand, all these people that are giving money, what's their incentive?

Well, exactly. I mean, the incentive on something like Kickstarter is literally your Kickstarter bonus. So that's why that's a problem because if your bonus is a free flight somewhere, right off the bat, you're losing a lot of money on a giveaway. Exactly, exactly. Now, what I imagine he's doing is I imagine he's trying to get enough money to buy it plus enough to cushion those first couple of weeks until it can get solvent. And then you can, you know, figure out what your payrolls are going to be, what your overhead's going to be. Once you hit that point of breaking even, then you set your prices at that point and you just keep them there going forward. Good luck. Yeah. He's going to have to turn a profit. Yeah, because he's going to have to turn a profit or, you know, the same thing will happen to him that happened to the company. That's the thing, though. He doesn't have to continue making more profit every year, which is kind of what. capitalism demands you do is you have to make more money every year. You have to have a record year every year or your shareholders. You're just going to start selling. So that's not going to happen with them. So theoretically. Yeah. I wish you. I do too. All the luck. But there's just, there's a lot of holes in that. There really is. Yes. Yes. We'll see. We'll see if you can pull it off. I, I, uh, Eventually, he's going to have to be profitable. Coming up, we'll tell you about the Wichita City Council has a full agenda ahead of it at a Tuesday's city council meeting. I'm Rodney Price, an Ottawa, Kansas police officer was shot Friday night by a murder suspect. We'll tell you what happened next, just ahead. It's 61 degrees and clear right now. We've got a lovely forecast today. A little bit cloudy, but warm with the high of 87 degrees. President Trump announced via True Social on Sunday the U.S. military will guide stranded ships out of the Strait of Hormuz. Fox's Ashley Strowmire has that report. President Trump says the U.S. military will begin escorting stranded cargo ships through the vital strait of Hormuz. The operation is being dubbed Project Freedom. The announcement comes on the same day a U.K. flagged cargo ship near the coast of Iran reported being attacked by multiple small craft. The crew of the vessel are safe. This all unfolding as peace talks between the U.S. and Iran appear to be ramping back up. Trump saying his representatives are, quote, having very positive discussions with Tehran. In Iran, meantime, is... reviewing the U.S. response to its latest 14-point peace proposal. President Trump has made clear any deal must fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz and then prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. Until then, he says the U.S. blockade on Iran will stay in place. An Iranian official says Iran wants to control the Strait of Hormuz after the war. Next week, Sedgwick County Commissioners will decide whether to extend the pause on new data center applications. The pause was initiated in January to allow time to study the impact data centers have on energy, water, and property values. The commission then extended the pause in early March, pushing the deadline to June 11th. The county said it needed more time to get public input and complete the study on data center development. Now commissioners are weighing another 90-day extension. If the extension is approved, it would give the board more time to develop regulations for new data centers. The county will vote on extending the pause next Wednesday. Phil Hildebrand, KNSSS News. The KBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday evening in Ottawa. Around 5.30 p.m., the Ottawa Police Department Special Tactics and Rescue Team attempted to serve a warrant on a homicide suspect from Kansas City, Missouri. The warrant was being served at an apartment in the northern part of the city. As officers approached, the suspect fired from within the residence, striking an Ottawa police officer. He sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Kansas City area hospital. The officer was treated, released.

and is now recovering at home. Officers did not return fire but contained the scene. Ottawa officers were later relieved by tactical teams from the Johnson County Sheriff's Office and the FBI. Around 9.40 p.m., those teams entered the apartment and found the suspect dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Rodney Price, KNSS News. The Wichita City Council has a full agenda ahead of it at Tuesday morning's meeting. The council will discuss a potential agreement with Safe Haven Baby Box. It is a specialized box where a mother can legally surrender a newborn without fear of prosecution. A similar box was first installed in the Hutchinson Fire Station back at 2024. If the council approves, the city's first Safe Haven Baby Box would be installed at Fire Station No. 9 at 350 South Edgemore. An ordinance to issue bonds for Phase 3 of the K-96 Greenwich Star Bond Project will also come before the council in addition to proposed improvements to the Wichita Public Library System. A plan to renovate the police department's vehicle storage building is also on the agenda. Rodney Price, KNSS News. A Trigo County Sheriff's Deputy was arrested on Friday in suspicion of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. The office of the Trigo County attorney received affidavit related to an arrest of a Trigo County Sheriff's Officer made on Friday. A probable cause affidavit alleges the detention defany Jerry Jervan Jr. conspired with inmates at the Trigo County Law Enforcement Center to murder an in a separate facility on pending charges. The county attorney's office said Jerva is no longer an employee of Trigo County. The KBI is assisting with the ongoing investigation. Maine oyster farmer Graham Platner is now the presumptive Democratic Senate nominee after Governor Janet Mills suspended her campaign last week. He and another progressive candidate in hot water for past controversial statements. Fox's Jared Pergram on Capitol Hill explains. Graham Platner's a progressive, but he thinks his message resonates in a purple state like Maine. Graham Platner bears a Nazi SS tattoo. He said women who were raped should, quote, act like an adult. He since walked that back and covered the tattoo. Progressive icons endorse Graham Platner, despite his faults. In Michigan, Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed is surging. He previously called for defunding the police and wants Medicare for all. That was Chad Pergram from Fox News on Capitol Hill. Graham Platner will face incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins in the Senate, who's drawn criticism from Maine residents for her support of the Big Beautiful Bill. No explosives or real dangers have been found after a string of bomb threats against zoos in Ohio. The latest threat came Sunday when visitors had to be evacuated from the Cleveland Metro Park Zoo. A few hours earlier, police had to do a sweep of the Akron Zoo after a threat led to an evacuation there. On Saturday, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in central Ohio had to be cleared out when they got a call about a purported bomb. Other zoos have had to evacuate after getting similar calls over the past few days, like the Phoenix Zoo in Arizona and the Louisville Zoo in Kentucky. Jill Nato, Fox News. We've got a chance to see some showers and thunderstorms move back into the area. I don't think we're going to get very much rain in Wichita, though most of South Central Kansas is not going to be in the right spot as we have another change coming in the weather. Yesterday, we reached a high in the upper 80s, and for early May, that's quite a bit warmer than average. But then again, it was just about three or four days ago that people were telling me that, wow, it was so cool.

So we've kind of had some wild swings again here in the temperatures. And we will once again. I mean, we're going to reach a high today of 87, but this cold front that's coming in later tonight. is going to cool us back down into the 50s as we head through the next couple of days. We might squeak out a 60 tomorrow, but then Wednesday afternoon, highs are only going to be in the 50s. So a pretty wild switch in the weather is coming with this front on the way. Sadly, again, we just don't have a whole lot of rain coming up. We'll have a spotty shower, a thunder shower later this evening. And then we're looking ahead to a few showers coming up on Wednesday, but I just don't think this week we're going to catch very much measurable rain here in south central Kansas, so expectations are low there. But again, big change coming, 87 and partly cloudy later this afternoon. After 7 o'clock tonight, we could see a few spotty showers moving through the area with an overnight low dropping to 54. And then it just doesn't warm up that much tomorrow, a high near 60 on Tuesday. It'll be mostly cloudy throughout the day. Wednesday brings the possibility of a few widely scattered rain showers, but nothing severe and high temperatures will be in the mid-50s. As far as this storm chance goes, after all, this is traditionally like the peak of severe weather season for us in Kansas. We don't see anything on the horizon for a while. We'll get another shot at a few storms coming up as we move toward Mother's Day weekend. But that doesn't look like anything big and bad as far as what we see on the way. Speaking of severe weather, it was 19 years ago today. The Greensburg tornado happened on May 4, 2007. Of course, we would know that as an EF5, the first EF5 in the whole country. And it did some terrible damage. Ten people perished in the storm. That's right. I remember that. Yeah, I'll never forget that night. It was a long weekend of severe weather that started on Friday and lasted all the way to Sunday. Right now in Wichita, we've got 60 degrees in sunshine. That's your Storm Team 12 forecast. Yeah. And I was like, nope, I'm out. That's it for me. They got rid of all that stuff that I actually kind of liked. And to be fair, a lot of those novels were really bad. Yeah. There was about a third of them that were worth reading. Maybe that's why they got rid of them. Yeah. So I will admit, there was some bad stuff there. But yeah. Maybe that's why they got rid of them. Probably so. But I just decided, you know what? Nope. I'm not going to learn a whole new. set of Star Wars alternate history stuff. Shocker baseball swept for the first time in a conference series over the weekend in San Antonio for the first time this season, losing to UTSA 6 to 3 on Sunday. The sad part is Wichita State out hit the roadrunners, 7 to 5. They got two home runs. UTSA had none of them, but none of that matters when you give out seven walks and hit three guys. Shockers dropped the 26 and 23, 10 and 11 in the American, and the Wichita State softball team continues to roll on. They got a series sweep of Memphis on the final day of the regular season with a 10-5 win Saturday at Wilkins Stadium. That means they share... They get a share of the American Conference regular season title. They'll be the number two seed in next week's American Conference Championship. The two soldiers disappeared when taking part in a recreational hike on Morocco's Atlantic coast, stationed there to take part in African Lion 26, an annual multinational training exercise. They were last seen near cliffs around the Kaptra training area close to the city of Tantan. It's feared they may have fallen into the ocean. A search is ongoing featuring helicopters, ships, mountain rescue units and divers. and lion is the continent's largest annual joint military exercise hosted across Morocco, Ghana, Senegal, and Tunisia. Jonathan Savage, Fox News. One person is in critical condition following a South Wichita motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon. It happened around 4.15 p.m. near the intersection of 63rd Street South and hydraulic. Officials say a motorcycle and a vehicle collided. The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Open Streets ICT held its second event of the year Sunday afternoon, drawing thousands of people into the streets of Wichita's Nomar neighborhood for an afternoon of local food, music, and performances. Sam Nava, an event volunteer, says the event is designed to bring neighbors together and highlight the people and businesses that call the area home. Wichita, it's a big melting pot, and I think it's a good way to get to know your neighbor and other neighborhoods here in town. Sunday's gathering was the second of three open streets ICT events planned this year. Iran is threatening to attack American forces as a new effort begins to guide ships through the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump describes Project Freedom as a humanitarian gesture it begins this morning, an attempt to help some of the 2,000 ships and 20,000 seafarers who have been stranded since the start of Operation Epic Fury. But Iran's military says it'll attack US forces if they enter the Strait of Hormuz. More than 100 aircraft and 15,000 service members are supporting Project Freedom. Ships which have been unable to transit the strait are said to be running low on drinking water, food and other supplies. Jonathan Savage, Fox News. The Tunnels to Towers Foundation is launching the Steel Across America Tour, carrying this piece of steel beam from the fallen south tower into communities nationwide. The beam is 26 feet long, nearly 17,000 pounds, but the nonprofit says the beam's true weight cannot be measured because it also carries memories, sacrifice, and grief. On Saturday, hundreds stood for a moment of silence as the beam began its cross-country mission to honor the first. responders who ran towards danger and perished and the thousands of civilians who never made it out on 9-11. I know that you just pitched over to Jake Dunn. I want to give him a shout out and all the thousands of runners who participated in the Prairie Fire 5K and Half Marathon. Yesterday was a perfect day for that. And I just appreciate people that are moving, walking, jogging, running around our community. And so Prairie Fire is a great organization. That is through the Wichita Sports Forum. Yesterday also had the opportunity to go down to First Pentecostal Church to celebrate their public service day. This is an opportunity for young people to connect with firefighters, police officers, and paramedics, and get them to understand the different career opportunities, but also to thank our public servants. And so I really want to give a shout out to Bishop Cornwell, who hosts this event every single year. And they have a huge...

Youth Ministry, they bus kids from all over Wichita to southeast Wichita so that they can go through their programming. And then Open Streets, ICT was yesterday in Nomar. Great turnout. As you just mentioned, thousands of people. Next one will be September 20th. And then on Saturday, I wanted to highlight a couple of things. There are still multiple district breakfasts that you should join. so that you can talk about the budget as well as the post-sales tax conversation. I have the opportunity to attend the District 1 breakfast on Saturday morning. heard from various residents telling us their various priorities or what the city council should focus on. And one of the things that I heard resoundly was that our council and the city staff need to communicate more and more concisely. And then on Saturday also had the opportunity to be with our Vietnamese community and our American soldiers, what's known as Reconciliation Day. This was the day. that many of the Vietnamese here in America consider it Reconciliation Day. And this is a day where they are saddened to know that Vietnam fell to communism. And so here, the Vietnamese in America want to say thank you to the American soldiers. They also say thank you for letting the Vietnamese community celebrate their culture. So it was a very beautiful event at the Veterans Memorial Park. And then I did see you at the Unity Ball. And I really appreciate the sentiment of bringing community together, celebrating our public servants as well. But just having a good time. So great job to all the organizers of the Unity Ball. And thank you to you for being there as well. Yeah, it was a great event. And as I said, you know, when they asked me to speak, I think we need more events like that where we have. Republicans and Democrats and libertarians all coming together. I think we need more of that in our community right now and in our country for that matter as well. So it was nice to see you. You guys, you have a busy city council meeting. I saw your agenda, just a ton of stuff coming up on the agenda. We've already reported this morning on one of the items is the Safe Haven Baby Box. It's a unique piece. It's a specialized box where... A mother can legally surrender a newborn without fear of prosecution. You're going to be voting on that. It's interesting piece. Hutchinson has incorporated that. Now the city, Wichita is looking at it, correct? That is correct. And this would be at station number nine. That is over by Kellogg and Edgemore. So it's conveniently located on nearby Kellogg. And so. The safe haven box really is for individuals that may want to take a baby to a place where they know that there are people inside the building but won't come and again.

talk to the individual further other than they want to safely give their baby in that baby box. So we will be talking about that item. And tomorrow is a packed agenda. There are 12 new items simply just to discuss and vote. And then we have multiple items on the consent agenda. So it will be a very busy council meeting. But one of the things that I'm going to bring up, And that is not on the agenda, but it's something called the council member agenda. This is an opportunity for any council member to bring up a topic that they would like to see staff to work on whether it's an ordinance or a repeal of an ordinance. So what I'm going to be asking during the council member agenda is the repeal of the back up into a parking stall ordinance. Good. This is something that I've heard from our community. And I'm leading that effort. But again, I still need three individuals in order to move this forward to the staff level so that they can continue. So if you have a strong opinion one way or another, please contact your council member. It does need four votes. And so again, tomorrow it will simply be to bring it up. so that staff can work on that repeal of the ordinance. Well, and I think in addition, I think you all should look at repealing the paid parking at City Hall. I think a number of folks, and I've had callers to my Sunday show, and I think it's one thing, whether or not, and I know you opposed the whole concept of paid parking in general, but I think in particular, paid parking. when you're going to government to redress grievances, I think that's another issue. And maybe that's another one that folks should reach out if they have an opinion on. Yes, I encourage people to watch the workshop last Tuesday. We did talk about City Hall parking. And again, I'm a big proponent of bringing people to City Hall to come and address your city council, especially during our weekly Tuesday city council meeting. So I would not want it to be an inconvenience for individuals to come and address your council, your elected officials. So one of the things that was proposed was that on Tuesdays, at City Hall, that parking could be free. Free. It's a good idea. Just, again, a proposal. It still requires the city manager to bring us something to vote on. So again, I want individuals to attend your city council meetings or to connect with your council members. And it is really simple. Go to Wichita.gov slash city council. And you can find all of our contact information there. One of the consent agenda items I know that's on up for discussion today is the police armored rescue vehicle. It's on the consent agenda items. It's $600,000. I know that was one that was discussed a few weeks ago. That's up for discussion today as well.

So it's not that you have to remember that consent agenda are items that have already been voted on or things that staff believes are benign topics. But any council member can pull any item from consent agenda for further discussion and for public vote or for public comment. So again, this is a difference between new agenda and consent agenda. Consent agenda requires a council member to pull that item for further discussion. So what you're talking about was something that we did discuss at the beginning of March, and it did pass. So therefore, this is really just too. Correct. That got discussed in the beginning of March. It got voted on. And then it's in consent agenda so that they can start moving forward with purchasing. Nearly 60 years after designing Wichita's downtown central library, paper architecture can help give the building new life as a premium events venue. City leaders are poised to hire the Wichita firm to create conceptual designs to convert the former library at Maine and William into ballrooms and gathering space. The brutalist building has largely sat vacant since the Advanced Learning Library opened in 2018. If approved, design work would begin this year with construction potentially wrapping up next year. And the Kansas Aviation Museum is expanding its hands-on education offerings for young kids with a new learning wing focused on aerospace and steam concepts. The museum has raised about 70% of its $325,000 goal with support from major industry players, including Boeing, Bombardier, Airbus, and Textron Aviation. New spaces will include interactive play areas, flight simulators, and build your own aircraft activities. designed for kids from toddlers through elementary school. President Trump says the U.S. will begin escorting stranded ships through the Strait of Hormuz today. Project Freedom, President Trump says, well, guys, ships unable to transit the Strait of Hormuz through the narrow waterway controlled by Iran. In a social media post, the president says the ships are from areas of the world, not in any way involved in what is taking place in the Middle East, calling it a humanitarian gesture. In a warning to Iran, President Trump also says if the operation is interfered with, it will be dealt with forcefully. Iran has severely limited oil and cargo ships from sailing through. the straits since March, causing global fuel prices to surge. At the White House, Jared Halpern, Fox News. Boeing is investigating an accident reported at its Wichita plant. Our partners at 12 News have learned this accident happened more than a week ago and that the affected employee identified by family as 53-year-old Daniel Luzier died last weekend. It is unclear if the accident is tied to the employee's death. On April 22nd, Luzier stepped on a crossbeam and fell through some floorboards at the facility.

He suffered multiple broken ribs from the accident and was admitted to the hospital. He was released on April 23rd but died on April 26th. Lusier was an aircraft mechanic and a Boeing employee for nine years. The family is waiting on the autopsy results that will determine the official cause of death. They have hired an investigator to look into the incident. Rodney Price, KNS News. A Boeing spokesperson offered the following statement, quote, we are conducting a thorough investigation and are supporting the employee's family and our teammates. Republicans are hoping voters will keep them majority in Congress for the rest of President Trump's second term in this year's midterm elections. Former Vice President Mike Pence tells Fox's One Nation with Brian Kilmeade, the GOP's strategy starts with selling the one big beautiful bill. Extending those tax cuts for working families, small businesses, family farms, energy independence. We're exporting 6 million barrels of oil a day now, which has taken some of the edge off the impact of the Iran war. And, of course, ending the worst border crisis in American history. Democrats, meanwhile, are focusing on the economy, health care, and the conflict with Iran in their midterms messaging. A man is dead after he was shot Saturday night in South Wichita. Officers responded just before 6.30 p.m. to a laundromat in the 900 block of South Seneca where they found a man lying in the parking lot. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he later died. He has not been identified. Police believe the suspect confronted the victim in a targeted incident, not a random act of violence. However, the exact circumstances are still unclear. Investigators and WPD officers followed leads overnight, and just before 8.30 Sunday morning, the Wichita Police SWAT team arrested a 26-year-old suspect in the 1800 block of South Euclid Street. Golden Tempo coming from behind to win the race. The horse and his rider, Jose Ortiz, battled their way back from 18th place, the very back of the pack, all the way to first, winning by a neck. But what made it also noteworthy was the person who trained Golden Tempo. Sherry DeVoe became the first woman to train a Kentucky Derby winner. She was nearly speechless after the comeback victory. The Kentucky Derby is the first of three races known as the Triple Crown. Only 13 horses have won all three. It's still unclear if this year's Derby winner Golden Tempo will run in the upcoming Preakness Stakes, which takes place in two weeks. That was Fox's Max Gordon. It's the 11th time, rather, that Golden Tempo ran in the Kentucky Derby. Fox's CB Cotton in New York City with a story about the beam that is touring the country.

The Tunnels to Towers Foundation is launching the Steel Across America Tour, carrying this piece of steel beam from the fallen South Tower into communities nationwide. The beam is 26 feet long, nearly 17,000 pounds, but the nonprofit says the beam's true weight cannot be measured because it also carries memories, sacrifice, and grief. On Saturday, hundreds stood for a moment of silence as the beam began its cross-country mission to honor the first. responders who ran towards danger and perished and the thousands of civilians who never made it out on 9-11. That was Fox's CB Cotton in New York City. The steel beam is expected to make 35 stops across country, 21 states, and Washington, D.C., before returning back to ground zero on September 11th. A Wisconsin Planning Commission is holding public hearings on a 209-acre data center under development. It proposes the project in Wisconsin Rapids. While facility promises economic growth and investment, many residents aren't buying it. They're raising serious concerns about the strain on local water and energy resources, the loss of farmland. and the reality that these projects create very few permanent jobs. With us now to bring us a little more on the story and the context is Jeff Manasso from Fox News Radio. Jeff, thank you for joining us this morning. Good morning to you. This is the same battle that's planning out in big cities and small towns across the country. Oh, yeah. In Wisconsin. Yeah, this is Wisconsin Rapids. Central Wisconsin, just west of Stevens Point, if you're familiar. And so the Wisconsin Planning Commission said that there was a meeting slated for today, but that has now been canceled. And we're not sure if it's ever going to get back up again because of the pushback. As you mentioned, 200-acre data center, similar to mega plants that are popping up across the country right now, about 50 mega AI data centers in the state of Wisconsin, many, many more in other states. In fact, here in Illinois, there are upwards of 200 mega plants. going up or they've already gone up or they're planned. And, yeah, that's the argument. They swallow up lands, farmlands, forestry lands. They threaten water resources. It takes a lot of water to cool these things. So they are coming up with new technology called a closed loop system. Essentially, you know, it captures heat. And it didn't. It essentially avoids evaporation with these systems, and with that, they're able to reduce water consumption. Don't know how it works, but anyway, this is new technology that they're using. Some of them are building their own power plants to eliminate that argument as well, but they're just, they're huge and they're ugly.

they ruin the vibe of small town America, and that's a huge argument. So some of these battles are going all the way after state courts and perhaps even beyond so much so that companies are just pulling the plug on plans and trying to build somewhere else. But it's interesting because Elon Musk has said that, excuse me, these data centers, They're like IBM computers back in the 70s. He said, we're not going to need them in the future. And that's a kind of interesting take. How significant, Jeff, are the concerns over water usage and energy demand? I mean, could these facilities actually drive up costs for local residents? Yeah. They absolutely could. They use an enormous amount of power. And if, you know, the utilities aren't prepared, you know, they don't have the capability. Then where's the, where's that power going to come from? It's going to come from, you know, the power that people are supposed to use. It's going to cost a lot of money. They're going to eat up those. They're going to drive up costs. It's a huge argument. We've already seen it play out. You will see. You know, it's interesting. And the reason I wanted to try and have you on is because we're seeing one of these right here in Wichita. There's been a lot of discussion here in Wichita in the Sedgwick County area. There's currently a moratorium on these in Sedgwick County. They're looking at extending the moratorium another 90 days. Bottom line, this for us, Jess, is the juice worse the squeeze in these projects? Are there enough jobs created to make it worthwhile? Well, that's the argument. In many industrial towns where, you know, like say, Wisconsin paper mills that have gone away, you do have this industrial land that's vacant, and they're focusing on that because the area needs jobs and the area needs a solid tax base. And so in some ways, yeah, it is beneficial, but at what cost? And so, you know, this fight is going to continue. Well, it's interesting. It'll be interesting to see what happens here in Wisconsin. It's a test case for a lot of other communities, and we'll be watching. Jeff Manasso from Fox News Radio. We appreciate you joining us this morning, Jeff. And, again, we're seeing it here in our own backyard, not only with the data centers, but with solar. Solar, yep, projects. Well, I don't know. The weird thing is that they're two very different kinds of projects. Oh, yes. People are lumping them together, driving out around in the county for my job. I see the farms have started putting up the signs, and I see it all the time. They lump it together. No data centers, no solar. Those two very different kinds of projects. Very much so. And they both have different drawbacks and benefits. Yeah.

Just lumping them all together is really, really short-sighted. But then again, it's also easier. And people kind of gravitate towards easier, you know, solutions or arguments. Yeah. Because they don't like complications. Like, well, it's actually more complex than just you don't want both of these. There's certain drawbacks and certain benefits to both. Yep. Oh, without a doubt. Dropping three games over the weekend to the Arkansas Travelers, they wind up losing that series 5 to 1 and getting leapfrogged by Arkansas in the Texas League North. The surge's next two series are on the road, starting Tuesday with the opener of a six-game series against the Amarillo Sod Poodles at 6 o'clock, and that is in Amarillo. Shocker baseball team swept for the first time in a conference series this season over the weekend in San Antonio. On Sunday they lost 6 to 3, and it's sad. Wichita State out hit the roadrunners, 7 to 5 and out homered them 2 to nothing, but you give out 7 walks and you hit 3 guys, you put that many. Free runners on base and they're going to come back to bite you. So the shockers are now 26 and 23, 10 and 11 in the American. And Wichita State softball continues to roll. They get a series sweep of Memphis on the final day of the regular season. They get a 10 to 5 win Saturday afternoon at Wilkins Stadium. And that gives them a share of the American Conference regular season title. They get to be the number two seed in the championship tournament. Ted has the morning off. Here's a look at the news. Gas prices in Wichita jumped 20 cents over a 24-hour period, reaching $3.99 per gallon on Friday. The Wichita price is higher than the Kansas average of 387, which increased 12 cents since Thursday. Many drivers around Kansas have felt the extra prize shock. Sean Stewart with AAA, Kansas says the week has been difficult for drivers. If you're looking for a silver lining, Stewart says be thankful you live in the Sunflower State.

Kansas still has the sixth lowest average gas prices in the country. So it could be much worse and is much worse in a lot of states. Stewart adds that until the war in Iran is resolved, gas prices are expected to stay high. President Trump posting on Truth Social Sunday said the U.S. will help stranded ships get out of the Strait of Hormuz. Fox's Alex Hogan has been traveling with the president. President Trump announcing a new operation. This is Project Freedom that will allow some of the ships that have been stuck in the Strait of Hormuz to be safely escorted out of that waterway. The president posted this on Truth Social, saying, for the good of Iran, the Middle East and the United States, we have told these countries that we will guide their ships safely out of these restricted waterways so that they can freely and able to get on with their business. The Iranians claim that the U.S. has responded to their latest proposal. President Trump posted online that he... doubted that the proposal would be acceptable. Iran says this is a 14-point plan following the U.S.'s nine-point proposal. Iran says that these were not nuclear negotiations. That was Fox's Alex Hogan in Dural, Florida. The U.S. Navy's blockade continues. Iran says it violates the ceasefire. The White House claims Tehran's on the brink of collapse, with leaders fighting each other for power and Karg Island approaching full storage capacity, meaning it'll have to shut down oil drilling operations. Former New York City Mayor Giuliani is in the hospital. Fox's Jim Osman reports. Giuliani was reported in critical but stable condition according to a statement posted on the social media platform X. Ted Goodman, a political strategist who worked with Giuliani, said, quote, Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he's fighting with that same level of strength. Good morning, Kirk. Nearly 60 years after designing Wichita's downtown central library, paper architecture can help give the building new life as a premium events venue. City leaders are poised to hire the Wichita firm to create conceptual designs to convert the former library at Maine and William into ballrooms and gathering space. The brutalist building has largely sat vacant since the Advanced Learning Library opened in 2018. If approved, design work would begin this year, with construction potentially wrapping up next year. And the Kansas Aviation Museum is expanding its hands-on education offerings for young kids with a new learning wing focused on aerospace and steam concepts. The museum has raised about 70% of its $325,000 goal with support from major industry players including Boeing, Bombardier, Airbus, and Textron Aviation. New spaces will include interactive play areas, flight simulators, and build your own aircraft activities designed for kids from toddlers through elementary school. CEO Ben Sasseta says the goal is to spark early interest in aviation and help cultivate the region's future workforce. Right now, we got a gator that's sitting in the middle of a roadway who looks a little unhappy with us and probably everyone around here.

And I got to figure out what we're going to do to get him away from all these people and all these cars. There we go. Just say arrest for me, buddy. Watch out. This thing can feel like doing this today was not exactly what I thought was going to be taking place, but I won't complain. I won't complain. Yeah, it's a gator. It's a gator.
