He is Jose, and it's Thursday, May 14th, more on that date. In mere moments, it is show 5603 of this fine radio program. Let's jump right into scripture, John 17. And... The focus is verses 20 and 21. But I want to go back because Jesus is having a word here. And Jesus is having this conversation with his dad. Which, by the way. blows up the entire Islamic claims about Jesus right there, as well as some other faiths. Look, it's okay for people to create whatever they want to create and believe, you know, the old George Carlin line, you know. When I die, I believe my soul goes to a garage in Buffalo. I mean, if that's your thing, that's your thing, right? But what you can't do is you can't just make up Jesus to be who you want him to be. He's who he said he is. And he's having this conversation with his Heavenly Father, first noting a distinct separate person. So the idea of the, well, there's just one God, there's no Jesus, the son of God as a separate person and the Holy Spirit, well, I'm sorry, but from Genesis on, it says otherwise in Scripture. I'm sorry. I don't know what to tell you. But Jesus said, I do not ask for these only. And he's talking about, His disciples, the men he's teaching, keeping in mind that at this point, they're not saved yet. They're not Christians. This is before his death, his burial and his resurrection. He's praying for you. I want you to think about this for a second. Jesus, the son of God, God made flesh. The Word of God made flesh is praying for you. I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, the disciples, the teaching that they would do, those that would believe in me through their account, their witness, their testimony. That's you and me.

We are, if you call yourself a Christian, you don't have to. It's your choice. But if you make that choice, you can't make it up to be whatever you want it to be. You can't pick and choose. He says that they may all be one just as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. Again, the distinctive difference between a father and son. And, oh, by the way, in Genesis at the creation, the Holy Spirit was hovering over the earth. And God spoke, and that spoken word is Jesus, the bread of life. And John describes very clearly at the beginning of the book of John. that in the beginning was the word and the word was God and the word was with God. He was with God. You see that, that progression. It's an introduction. This is Jesus. Honestly, it's simple theology, but it's deep. That is a really deep concept there. But it plays out throughout many places in scripture, and this is just but one. 10 past the hour. Busy Thursday, as you would expect. Great to have you with us. Inside the American Patriots Almanac, we go. May 14th, it was on this date in 1805, the Lewis and Clark expedition was pushing up the Missouri River when a sudden squall hit the sale of one of their boats, swamped it. Captain Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, ashore at the time looked on in horror, quoting from their writings, Our papers, instruments, books, medicine, and a great part of our merchandise, and in short, almost every article indispensablely necessary to ensure the success of the enterprise, threaten to float away. While the men struggled to get the boat to land, the expedition's only female member quickly calmly plucked the papers and supplies everything from the icy water. The Indian woman, to whom I ascribe equal fortitude and resolution with any person on board at the time of the accident, caught and preserved most of the light articles which were washed overboard. Lewis wrote this in his journal. Six days later, the grateful captains named a handsome river of about 50 yards in width in Montana after the young Shoshone woman. Saka Jua. That's cool. That is a cool story. 1787 delegates begin gathering in Philadelphia for the Constitutional Convention. They were probably selling stuff, you know, little stuff to animals to mark the commitment. No, maybe not. 1897 in Philadelphia, John Phillips's March, the Stars and Stripes Forever is performed for the first time. I wonder what it was like to hear it for the first time. Because it's so interesting. When you hear that music, it just sounds American. It just sounds patriotic.

You hear it at 4th of July when they're blasting the fireworks. We will definitely hear it this 4th of July. I promise that. 1904, the first Olympic Games held in the United States opens in St. Louis. 1973, Skylab, the first U.S. Space Station is launched from Cape Canaveral. I remember it. That was just, that's a cool name. Not the International Space Station or the Space Station meal. Skylab. It's just Skylab. And if I'm not mistaken, it went down in the, when they decommissioned it, it fell out of orbit and disintegrated and fell into the ocean near Australia, I want to say. I could be mistaken there. Today is National Dance Like a Chicken Day. I have no idea why they would relegate that to one day when there are some of us that dance like a chicken every day. How about this one? National Decency Day. One day. One day. How about a... National decency decade? I don't know. I mean, one day. Oh, very well. I guess we can be decent for one day. National Buttermilk Biscuit Day. National Underground America Day for people that live underground. And there are those that do. There are people that have taken like converted missile silos that were decommissioned and sold off and they've turned them into homes. under the ground. Actually, I've seen some, not in person, but I've seen like, you know, tours of some of those things. They're pretty incredible if you can handle being underground like that. You know, you've got to find a way to bring some kind of light in there. And I'm not talking about just like flipping a switch. I mean, we're not made to live underground.

I feel like I've seen a story where like the wife was just like, this is nuts. And just she spends hours outside up on ground level above the surface just because she can't take it. That'd be, yeah, that'd be too weird for me. I don't think I could do that. I can go down in the basement for a little while, hang out, watch a movie or something. But, uh-uh, uh-uh, uh-uh, uh-uh. All right, we've got, um, We've got a cool event going on today, and then we've got a continuous event going on this month. China's president. Xi Jinping is toasting President Trump at a state banquet right now. How hard is that for him? You can just see joy all over the man's face. We'll talk a little bit more about the meetings. A few things, few things here. For those of you in Tallahassee, let's zero in there for just a quick moment. Former South Carolina lawyer, Alex Murdo. Found guilty of murdering his wife in 2021, South Carolina Supreme Court ruled unanimously he has to have a new trial. They've thrown out his conviction. And I watched the comments flow out of this story. And I'm thinking to myself, what's wrong with you people? Of course, he deserves a new trial. Now, I personally think they'll prove him guilty again.

But what you won't have is the clerk of courts who is writing a book about the trial, making improper comments to jurors, including instructing jurors to watch his body language, watch murder on his body language. That's a quote. Showing sealed evidence photos to journalists and then lying about it in court, all to help promote a book she was writing. Heck yeah, he didn't get a fair trial. No, again, I think he's going to be convicted. But this was 100% the right decision. Second big story. Who could have seen this coming? Here's the best part of this story. It's the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis that has done a study and concluded that the forced minimum wage increases in the Twin Cities, cost nearly 10,000 jobs. Whenever you do silliness like this, you lose jobs and you lose hours for workers. I still remember Target, bragging about, and Target, it's based in Minneapolis, St. Paul. We are going to lead the way. We're paying our people $15 an hour anyway. And then they cut the hours of all those people. And the workers at Target were like, what the, what are you bragging about? I'm making less money because I have less hours. Ah, but you're, you're being paid more. See, that's, that's the, the slight of hand in all of this. Businesses have to cut somewhere or else raise prices. It's just, it's, It's so simple. And the amazing thing about this is I've not, but maybe one time, sign checks for payroll. And by one time, meaning one phase of my life. But that was just, that was part of a nonprofit. I've never run a business, but I even know this. But now let's get to John Brennan. I want you to consider his comments on MS now as they try to make the assertion that Donald Trump has turned the justice department into an organization that attacks opponents. Consider the words. He has succeeded largely in turning DOJ and the FBI into political arms of his political operation. What still exists in the system to slow that down? I think as Liz mentioned, there's still a legion of professionals in the law enforcement environment, the Department of Justice, as well as the CIA and other places, the ones who are refusing to follow politically motivated prosecutions, those who are refusing to support any type of political activities in the part of the Trump administration that are inconsistent.

with the authorities the responsibilities of the intelligence community law enforcement community and department of justice the gall of that man first of all remember the rule the liberals accuse others of being and doing what they are and do always always Secondly, did you notice the word he used? Legion? A Legion? Who uses that word? No, really, who uses in this day and age the word legion to describe bureaucrats and insiders still buried deep within the Department of Justice? apparatus to circumvent what the administration is asking to be done or investigated or what have you. 40 minutes passed.

We'll have a little more fun with that story next hour. My goodness. I, look, I'm sure there are a lot of people to love John Brennan on a personal level. But as it relates to this nation, he's been a disgrace. And he's evil. And it's... He's part of that crowd that I personally believe may have or may be involved in efforts to end Donald Trump's life. kind of the MK Ultra kind of thing, which, oh, by the way, was a CIA project along with the United States Department of Defense. China has rolled out the red carpet, pun intended. From Air Force One forward, it has been nothing but red carpets for Donald Trump and the administrative team that's there with him, including. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, they are having talks. There are four red lines that China has said the United States must not challenge. One, the Taiwan question. Their words, not mine. Two, China's record of democracy and human rights. Three, the nation's path and political system. I would say that one. Fair enough. You do you. China's developmental right. And to that, I would say, well, now let's have a talk about that. See, I'm not 100% in agreement with President Trump's ideas on cooperation with China. Hey guys, it is Ryan. I'm not in favor of allowing Chinese manufacturing to come to this country. I'm just not. They've got a lot of land. You do you. I'm not opposed to... Selling them oil at a reasonable price, of course, in return for considerations for the things we need that they possess. Now, allegedly, this is a rather significant development if it's accurate. The White House is announcing that China has agreed with the United States position that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. If that's true, that's significant. I hate to do this, but is it semantics? Is China saying they cannot develop a nuclear weapon, but we'll give them one? Or is it they cannot possess? Not just develop, they cannot develop, but they cannot develop or possess a nuclear weapon. Okay. Well, let's just talk about missiles and things like that that you're sending them covertly. There are certain things here. Taiwan.

Can everybody get along? Well, I think that largely depends on how China conducts itself as it relates to Taiwan. Record of democracy and human rights? Well, the Uyghurs might have something to say about that. Right? Nation's path in political system? That's fair. That's your business. China's developmental right. They're talking oil right there now. Well, and I would turn that around and say, well, so what are you going to do about the straight of Hormuz? You are, in fact, helping Iran. And what is Iran? How are they controlling and taking ships? Still, I thought we ended that. President's in a pickle here because he's got Congress now breathing down his neck because he's expired to 60 days. And, you know, he may try the idea, well, we had a ceasefire, so that ended hostilities. So if something happens again, that's a new 60 days. He could try that. I'm not sure how successful that would be. And I'm not sure how helpful that would be from a political perspective with midterms coming up pretty quickly now. You know, we are in the fifth month and we're six months away from midterms. Less than six months. So it's worth watching. I think there's room for a little better relationship with China, but I think there are some obvious fences that have to be put up like get them out of the country. Chinese nationals, birthright citizenship, those things need to end. It just needs to end. You know, we need to basically say everybody that claimed citizenship by being born in America and is now being educated in China, their citizenship is revoked. That's a million, million and a half people. That needs to happen. There need to be actions like that agreed to. Anyway, 47 minutes past the hour. Come back. For example, Department of Homeland Security has announced that it has identified more than 10,000 foreign students who allegedly are working. The problem is that we can't find any of the businesses that they claim to be working for. Let me reframe that. Quoting from a spokesman, We found small residential addresses listed as work sites for hundreds of foreign students yet no employees were present. We're also seeing financial red flags. You mean foreign students might be gaming the system and abusing our visa program? No way. Yeah. Yeah, there's a way. It's happening. If you could just get a hold of the fraud in this country, we probably would start knocking off debt. There would be more jobs available for Americans. We'd be more secure as a nation. I don't, I personally don't think this is hard. And I think that this is, again, where Republicans, conservatives, even the president, they don't do a good job of selling what needs to happen and why. It's not a hard sell. That's not a hard sell. It just isn't. Second story here in my stack, Amsterdam. If I heard an accident of somebody from Amsterdam, I could probably pull it off. They have banned public ads for meat and fossil fuels. So you're not going to see any ads for a hamburger, chicken nuggets, flying in an airplane, taking a trip, riding on a bus. Nope. No, no, no, no, no. The Dutch capital and tourist hot spot is no longer allowing advertising of that kind. Climate change hysteria. The stupidity that comes as a result of it is just remarkable. All right. I'm Preston. And this is the executive editor of Tallahassee report. Steve Stewart. I'm just going to tee up, buddy. Let's do words association. Okay. I'm going to say something. And then you say whatever words come to mind, all right? Leon County School Board. Tax increase. Yeah, and it's nothing to laugh at, but you have to laugh sometimes to keep from crying. That's the old adage. But no, really, things are getting interesting. Well, so they had a Monday agenda review, which is where they have like workshops and they sort of preview the agenda on Tuesday. Sure. And that's where the deep discussion happens. And it was, I would say, one of the more consequential meetings they've ever had. They talked about some very heavy topics. And we've got a couple of stories on them. First of all, Look, the Leon County School District is struggling on a couple different levels, losing students, financial issues. And we've got a state story up actually where, you know, Leon County Schools ranks in the top five of school districts in terms of losing students over the last five years. One of the only five districts that's a double digit, you know, decrease. And, you know, we're going to have to look in and figure that out. But that seems a little bit weird that you have that many students leaving public schools. Is there any chance just surface level? You're an analytics guy. Yes. Do you suspect there's a correlation between that, the teacher pay issue, and other things that have been noted? Yeah, if you look at the comments on some of these stories, there are people that are hinting it. They know why kids are leaving these schools. Yeah. And so we're going to dig into it. I think I got an idea what they're talking about. But anyway, so. they've got to address this and so now they have they have decided that they don't have the answers themselves and so now they're going out to hire consultants um the first consultant is a recruiting firm that is out of Memphis, Tennessee, that has transitioned from a political campaign operation. They have seen this need arise of recruiting kids back to public schools. And so they've got this program where they go around and they basically call, email, knock on doors, text message students to come back to their home public school. And, you know, the headline stated, this is at no cost. And that's not exactly true. It's at no upfront cost. The cost has it. I did some research. It's commissioned sales. It's commissioned sales. They're basically for every kid that they get to come back and enroll in public schools. They're going to get anywhere from $1,000 to $2,000. So.

You know, I'm starting to think about this. This is like, you know, what, first of all, how do you know if they send an email to every kid that withdrew from public schools and then suddenly. Some of them decide to go back. They're going to get credit for that. So look, this is that's illegal, I think. Well, so look, this group has gone around the state and they're in other districts and, you know, they go to these, they go to these school conferences and they, you know, they give a nice slide deck, you know, but. The first thing I thought when I saw it was, first of all, how do you know if the student actually came back because of this program? Okay, that's the first thing. The second thing is if you're going to pay somebody $1,500, $1,500 per student, why don't you just run a promotion? Any kid that comes back will write a check for $500 to the family. Well, I think, no, but that's what they're doing. No, I think. Honestly, I don't think they can do this because it's a redistribution of tax dollars that's not legal. Well, they're doing it all over the country and in the state of Florida. I'll be curious if that's not legally challenged. So anyway, that's the first thing. Okay. And everybody seemed to be on board with it. Oh, this sounds like a great program. The second thing is teacher shortages. Because of a low teacher pay and probably, I don't know, maybe the work environment or whatever, we evidently have a problem in retaining teachers. And recruiting. So we're going to hire this company called TPG that recruits teachers from foreign countries, brings them over, and we pay them, I guess what we normally pay teachers, but somebody else pays their health care and other stipends. And they get a three-year visa to come over here. And so they call a cultural, you know, exchange. But I listened to some of the openings that they had. I mean, remember, we're home to FAMU, who FSU. We can't find teachers? And so I just, this is another thing that just boggles my mind. Again, another program that's being used around the state and with varying success. But those are two major issues that they addressed on Monday, looking for help from outside consultants. I think they know answers. They just don't like the answers that they know. and that's why they're going outside. But we're going to talk more about what's going on with the schools next. Steve, how is the hiring of these outside groups for something as simple as trying to win students back into your school district and trying to find teachers when you've got two major universities and one major state college right here in your back door? How is that anything other than an indictment over how they're running things? I mean, I think it's almost like it's almost like they don't. they've almost thrown in the towel. It's like, we can't do this ourselves. We've got to have help. And again, this is something that is there's school districts all over the state that are having these challenges. But there's, I think there's something unique about what's going on here in Leon County's school district. Yeah. And we got to figure that out. Now the next topic on Monday, this is just the beginning. You know, now we're, you know, we've got the half penny sales tax, which the county went ahead and got the language on. and is going to put on the ballot for the renewal of the half-penny sales tax, which traditionally was supposed to go to just infrastructure. That's expanded, which is fine, I guess, you know, and that's going to be in the ballot language. But now the next ballot language you're trying to put together is for the property tax increase. It's a one-mill property tax increase, $25 million a year. Now, originally, this was, as I watched the discussion, was about teacher salaries. Well, I watched on Monday and listened, and now this has been expanded to basically just be a money grab, that they can spend for whoever salary they want. And the language is, you know, this money is going to be for teacher and staff pay. And it was acknowledged that staff is everybody that works for the school district. So this is going to be sold. as an increase in teacher salaries when actually it's just money to plug holes and to basically pay anybody that is on the payroll of the county school school board. Now, again, I think you're being charitable. I would say this is just money to make up for the mismanagement and to force it on. Tyler Reddick here from 2311 racing. Well, and this is the other thing is that, you know, when they start talking about this, and Rocky Hanna, again, to his credit, is going to be at Niba, the network of entrepreneurs and business advocates in a couple weeks to field questions. But this is when if the community cares, and you know, sometimes Preston, you and I have been here a long time. We care about our, you know, this is our business. So we are much more energized by this than a lot of people. Well, we're a little more informed than most. Right. And people are living their lives. And maybe this is not a concern for them. They're just going to vote for the tax increases.

You know, I think, but what I would argue is this is a indication of a bigger problem. Because just think about this, any community, if you're losing. If you're losing the public school system, that is sort of the source for growth. I mean, that means now, are we just losing kids out of public schools? Do we have a vibrant charter and private school system where these kids are going? That's what we've got to look into. And then that would be, you know, that would be different. But, I mean, to be one of the top five schools losing kids is an interesting stat that warrants more a reflection. And when you're losing kids and you're getting these. you know requesting these tax increases that you would think that would be even they would urge more accountability but we're not really getting that right now i would argue steve that the the one of districts one of five districts that's losing students in double digit numbers I think the answers are right there in front of everybody. I just don't think they like those answers. So they're going to try to pat it with money. They're going to try to pat it with outside consultants. Now, and look, the facts sometimes get in the way of their discussion. And, you know, there was a clear math that showed that East Leon County is where families are going to be, are going and are residing over the next 15 to 20 years. And so that's another issue that they've got to grapple with. Yeah. And charter schools. private schools and homeschools. That's another component. It definitely is. And so anyway, we'll keep an eye on all this, but this is going to be coming pretty quick during the election season. There are more developments with the city of Tallahassee that needs your attention, and we'll talk about that next.

What would a meeting with Steve B without a check in on the city of Tallahassee? Look, so many things to say here. So, you know, a little time. So let's jump to it. So last night, City Commission meeting, you know, mayoral candidate, Jeremy Matlow, sitting on the dais there. And look, aside here, this election. I think it's pretty clear, you know, from my opinion standpoint, where we need to go. I mean, this is not about Republicans and conservatives. It's just about people operate, you know, running the city fairly. And this election is going to tell us so much about Tallahassee because of the way Jeremy Matlow behaves. And people voting for him is going to say that they accept this. And if they, look, we're, again, we're long in the tooth, as they say. And so it's just going to be interesting to see where this falls. Commissioner Malo stepped in it again last night in his passion or his rage to get city manager Ruiz Goad. He made a comment and accused Reese Goad of something related to an audit by the feds on a million dollar program the city has. You know, and it's turned into a big controversy because the media has called it an investigation and wants it be a criminal investigation and it involves expenses for a contract that was led for a federal program. And so, but that's not enough. Commissioner Matlow took one a step farther and made a mistake and connected, tried to connect Reese Goat and his family to this to this brouhaha. And turns out to an audit. Yeah. And I mean, accused him of some very underhanded things right there on social media post, which is where Matlitt does his best work. And he was wrong. He had bad information. And so last night at the meeting, he tried to just sort of sneak in an apology. But at the end of the meeting, Mayor Daly really took him to task. And look. You know, you're not going to get this anywhere else, but this is a continuing, and basically Mayor Daley said, look, we've had three, two votes, but the problem is basically the progressive wing, and this is an example of the problem. They look for any reason, and it doesn't even have to be legit. They don't verify it. They just go after people. Commissioner Matlow did this with the planning the evidence on the police officer for a year was after the police department for planning evidence on a DUI suspect. It turned out to be nothing. Okay. We saw Commissioner Katie Porter say that the president of FSU was trying to bribe her. with basketball tickets. So look, it's pretty clear what the progressives are after power, and it's going to be so interesting to see if they have fooled, if they're able to fool enough voters to get elected. And I am just, I've sort of pivoted from saying, you know,

what's good for my city and just looking at, you know, I'm not sure where we are, but this is going to really give us an indication because this recent development, and we'll see how it gets reported, again, is just about Commissioner Matlow racing to try to basically sling mud, sling mud, hurt someone's credibility for the purpose of him getting elected. And why would you believe him on anything else? And because he's got a track record. The progressives have this track record of just these antics to try to get elected. And it may work. But that's what's the exciting part, Preston. Don't you find it exciting? No, I find it disgusting and shameful. But I know what you mean. It will be an indicator. And candidly, this is going to be framed by other media outlets as well. You know, you're able to offer the data, the evidence, the transcripts, whatever is needed. Here you go. You make up your mind. Unfortunately, other media outlets provide cover. Right. And they do. And, you know, they minimize things. This will be interesting to see how they cover Mayor Daly's three or four minute speech about what happened. He was very emotional. Very emotional. And look, again, this is, there's a history here. It's clear. I mean, even on bigger issues that are going to really impact the Academic Medical Center. The lie from Matlow is that we sold the hospital assets to FSU for pennies on the dollar. Now, look, you can debate, you know, what the actual cost should have been, but to go around and say that it's pennies on the dollar, it's basically a lie. And what they're doing is trying to fool voters. And again, This is not about Republicans and conservatives. No. This is about Democrats. Yeah. And we're tolerated here from 2311 racing. Let's just pause for a moment and consider what? That didn't happen under Barack Obama, huh? Which is where this all started. The weaponization of the DOJ really started. under Barack Obama attacking Donald Trump on behalf of Hillary Clinton. Eventually it was a tandem. Remember, the whole Russian dossier thing, the steel dossier, that whole claim of Russia's conspiracy to get Trump elected, it was complete rubbish debunked by not just the British intelligence agency, but the U.S. intelligence, but it didn't matter. The truth did not matter. Brennan was in the midst of all of that working on behalf of the president, but let's let it roll. What still exists in the system to slow that down? I think as Liz mentioned, there's still a legion of professionals in the law enforcement environment, the Department of Justice, as well as the CIA and other places, the ones who are refusing to follow politically motivated prosecutions. You mean like the ones you did? They were more than happy to be involved in yours. They're whistleblowers. There's documents. There's proof. But did you catch the word? Did you catch what he said? Let's listen one more time. See if you catch the word. It's important. A legion. A legion. Where have I heard that? We are a legion. Oh, yeah. Jesus encountering demons inside a man. And we are Legion who cast us out. I mean, come on. What a perfect, what a perfect word for a man who is engaged in evil acts against this country to use Legion.

First rule of a liberalism. They are what they accuse others of being, and they do what they accuse others of doing. Minneapolis-St. Paul, the Fed Reserve Bank of Minneapolis has released a study. Researchers link the $15 minimum wage hike to job losses and reduced hours. No way. What? You mean forcing businesses to pay a minimum wage above what the market should be paying? Cost people hours and even jobs? How is that? Oh, yeah, that's right. That's what we've been teaching for 24 years on this program. Wages are a cost of business. And when you raise the cost of a business, that price. gets taken care of somewhere, either in reduced jobs, reduced hours, both, and or increased prices for goods and services. It's math. There's this, there's a, and it's so funny that I'm relying on math. I hated math when I was in school. I did it. I passed algebra one, algebra two went through geometry, I believe. I didn't go to the trig route. But my goodness gracious, really? This is simple stuff. And then lastly, the South Carolina Supreme Court overturned the murder conviction of Alex Murdo. He's going to get a new trial. He should get a new trial. I think he'll be convicted at the new trial, but he should get one because the clerk of court in his first trial influenced the jurors, made statements, shared evidence with the media. And she was writing a book, of course. She should be prosecuted if she hasn't already. I don't know. 40 minutes passed. Little optimum health naturally. You know, for years between Dr. Hartz and yourself, we have talked about how what's going on in our gut, mainline medicine is starting to catch up to what alternative care medicine, what you guys have been dealing with for years. And they found that 25%, over 25% of the gut flora in those Parkinson's patients showed a significant

imbalance compared to the patients who didn't. And again, I think what's really important is these Parkinson's patients, they didn't have any tremors, they didn't have any of the typical neurological signs yet that you typically have. The only symptom they had was this chronic constipation that had been going on for years. So what's really cool about this in a way is that, you know, we can... potentially be identifying these imbalances that can lead to this, especially if you have some genetic propensity towards Parkinson's, possibly even decades before we show any actual neurological signs. I always like to know the why. Why does this happen? Why does the gut flora impact it so much? And that's because we have something called... the gut brain axis. And essentially what the gut brain axis is, is what I like to refer to is a two-way street of where gut flora can impact the brain through a nerve called the vagus nerve coming up to the brain. And so things like serotonin, for instance, like 90% of your neurotransmitter serotonin is produced in your gut. On the other side of that coin, however, you have a branch of the vagus nerve that also comes down from the brain itself impacts the gut lining. So a lot of people have heard the term now, leaky gut, which is kind of a chronic inflammation of the gut lining. And that can be caused directly from imbalances in the vagus nerve. So there are studies where we have given mice concussions on purpose, as brutal as that sounds. But what happens when they did that is these mice actually develop leaky gut and gut flora imbalances solely from that brain injury. So we can't just say, okay, hey, let's go take a probiotic and we're never going to get Parkinson's. That's unfortunately not the way it works. We have to think about both of these symptoms. And so, you know, one thing people will ask me is, well, how does the, you know, if we're talking about, you know, how the vagus nerve gets dysregulate, how does that happen? And obviously, concussion, head injuries are one that I just talked about. However, there's a lot of other ways. You know, PTSD, emotional trauma, we should have seen that that can dysregulate it. There can be inflammatory events that disregulate it, infections that can disregulate it. But we also, one of the most underrated reasons that I find, is actually pure development. A lot of people don't realize when we're born, our nervous system is obviously underdeveloped, but we're all born with this undeveloped vagus nerve that actually, essentially, we're all born with leaky gut. And that's, you can think about infants to really have a really limited amount of foods they can really digest. That's a big reason for that.

especially when we treat kids who have ADHD or autism, those developmental delays, they often have dysregulation of the biggest nerve. And a lot of times they have gut issues that go along with it. So especially for those adults who maybe feel like, man, I had ADHD as a kid or I might still have a little ADHD. I might be one of those people. This is something to be proactive about and start thinking about because there's a very good likelihood, even if you've been taking probiotics for a long period of time. You know, you may have this top-down this regulation that's going to influence this gut floor. Because if you don't have that balanced gut lining, you're not going to be able to stabilize your gut flora ever, really. Dr. Zateman, thanks for the information. Zach Smith is a senior legal fellow manager of the Supreme Court and appellate advocacy program at the Heritage Foundation. Frequent guest, friend of the program, and a friend of mine. Zach, good to have you back on the show. How are you, sir? Well, I'm doing well. Thanks so much for having me on this morning. Of course. You wrote something that I think slid by some folks that in this audience, they need to know about this because I think it's a very encouraging ruling at a time when we're not getting a whole lot of them. We're getting some. But tell us about this story about the ruling of the Fifth Circuit of the Court of Appeals. Yeah, so the Fifth Circuit oversees Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and essentially they were asked recently to rule on whether Texas's new law requiring schools to post the Ten Commandments, whether that violated the Constitution. Now, I think it's important to understand Preston, this law that Texas passed SB 10, it provides simply that every school in the state should post the Ten commandments. No commentary, no other items attached to it. just the text of the Ten Commandments. And of course, some folks challenged that. They said it violated the First Amendment. It violated the Establishment Clause. It violated the Free Exercise Clause. But in a very masterful opinion, Judge Kyle Duncan on the Fifth Circuit explained why that just wasn't so and why this Texas law could, in fact, go into effect. How did he come to that opinion? And was it buttressed by something recently done in the U.S. Supreme Court that kind of allows the circuit courts to flex a little muscle on these issues? Yeah, absolutely. So I think to understand why this opinion is so important, why it's such a watershed moment, we have to go back to the 1970s. In the 1970s, the U.S. Supreme Court put forward a very problematic case called Women v. Kurtzman. And essentially, this case led to many of the problematic rulings that said you couldn't display the Ten Commandments. It led to challenges to prayer in school. It basically said that the government couldn't do anything. that would excessively entangle itself in religion. Now, the problem with that, Preston, is that's not how the framers of our Constitution understood the First Amendment. If you go back and look, Thomas Jefferson held worship services in the U.S. Capitol, George Washington, John Adams, every president for the first decades of our country allowed some form of...

public expression of faith to take place on U.S. government grounds, on U.S. property, and that was never seen as a violation of the Establishment Clause, but starting in the 60s and 70s, the U.S. Supreme Court really warped the establishment clause case law. And fortunately, the U.S. Supreme Court several years ago in the Robert F. Kennedy Jr. v. Bremerton School District case. You may remember, it's the Coach Robert F. Kennedy Jr. case. You wanted to pray on the field before football games. The U.S. Supreme Court says, look, the Lemon case, that line of cases that stem from it, that's bad case law. It's not how the framers would have understood this. We are going to overturn lemon. We're going to reject that precedent. And going forward, we're going to look at the history and tradition of our country to understand what the First Amendment requires or what the First Amendment would prohibit. And so essentially what the Fifth Circuit did in this case, in this case involving the Ten Commandments, they just expanded on that history and tradition test that the Supreme Court first readopted in the Coach Robert F. Kennedy Jr. case. Zach Smith with me from the Heritage Foundation, Zach Standby. We're going to continue our discussion for another segment here. And we're going to talk about some of the interesting aspects of this ruling. and whether or not this might pave the way for some more common sense issues to be resolved as we move forward. That's next here on the morning show with Preston Scott.

Zach Smith, writing in the Daily Wire that the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that the Ten Commandments aren't unconstitutional after all. How about that? Zach, is this the first significant case that is buttressed by the Supreme Court ruling in Robert F. Kennedy Jr. v. Bremerton? Well, there's been a line of cases, Preston, and essentially what the lower federal courts are having to do, they're having to go back and address situations that the Supreme Court had previously said were unconstitutional. You know, under the limit test, because governments were trying to avoid an excessive tanglement with religion because they had to show some secular purpose to displaying items like the Ten Commandments, that's why you had really absurd situations where you had city halls. displaying the Ten Commandments or nativity scenes alongside Snoopy or Frosty to Snowman, are these other types of secular displays because the government said you couldn't have a solely religious expression. And so again, this is one of the first major lower federal court cases where essentially the lower federal courts are going back looking at some of those situations and saying, no, no, no, no. At the founding, the framers of our Constitution would have understood this type of display to be perfectly permissible. Zach, I have long argued because, of course, I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express, and I am a constitutional scholar as a result of it. I have long argued that whether it's on our currency, a coin, that acknowledging a faith does not establish one, that acknowledging the Ten Commandments does not establish a church. or a religion, it merely acknowledges one. Is that an argument that is just too simple and too shallow? Well, Preston, with your holiday and express day, I would place you on a court of appeals over some of the sitting federal judges right now, because I think that understanding is much, much better. And in fact, if you go and look at the Fifth Circuit opinion, they say there are six hallmarks that were typically understood at the founding to establish an religion. It builds on the work of Professor Michael Mitch McConnell from Stanford University. And unless you're being coerced to attend church, unless you're being coerced to forcibly provide tax dollars to a church, things of that nature. The Fifth Circuit said that's not, if those types of things aren't present, then that action isn't enough to establish a religion. Those six hallmarks that you note, and I love that, I love that you dug that out. Are those part of the ruling, the opinion that was written? And do they now establish a bit of a more clear-cut precedent for subsequent rulings by courts, maybe even outside the Fifth Circuit?

Yes, they do. It provides guideposts for courts to look at landmarks to help courts untangle, essentially what would have been permitted, what would have been prohibited at the founding at the time our Constitution was adopted. Now, I think it's important to emphasize though, Preston. This is one court of appeals. Although other court of appeals have issued similar types of rulings looking at these hallmarks as well. But this is an issue that could eventually make its way back up to the U.S. Supreme Court. But I think what this decision in particular has done has really made clear that many of those old decisions, those post-limin decisions with that very flawed rationale, that those decisions now have to be revisited on a case-by-case basis as this new standard. It should apply. I'm curious. Are there groups of, I'll say activists on the right side of this that are going to now start picking at those cases and try to find means to overturn some of those previous rulings? Well, if by activists you mean every citizen who want to do things like pray in certain settings or display signs of their faith, then yes, certainly. And keep in mind, the way this case came before the court in the state of Texas, Texas Pass SB 10, which required schools to post the text of the Ten Commandments. And so essentially, it was folks on the left who challenged that Texas law that caused this case to come before the Fifth Circuit ultimately. And so you'll see these cases coming up through a variety of mechanisms. I think the takeaway here, Preston, is that public displays of faith, public acknowledgments of faith, as you said, those aren't prohibited by the Constitution, and the framers, those who adopted our Constitution would never have understood it to prohibit those types of public acknowledgments. All right, last question for Zach, and then I'll let you go. I'm just curious, inside the Fifth Circuit, you said we're talking Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, right? You mentioned that this could find its way back to the Supreme Court. It could. Is it likely to go the other way? Will this ruling now impact federal judges that we have seen all too often district judges try to expand their powers beyond their boundaries? Does this provide them a guidepost whether they like it or not? Well, it certainly provides a guidepost, and I think any judge across the country would do well to look at this opinion for guidance. Because this was an opinion of the Fifth Circuit, only governing those three states that you mentioned, it will only bind the judges within those circuits. These judges in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, they have to follow this decision. Judges in other circuits don't have to follow it. It's not technically binding, but again, they would do well to look at it. for advice and guidance as they too are confronting these types of issues. Very good to visit with you again, Zach. Definitely looked like they were fighting over territory or something. It wasn't like a mating ritual that I'd seen because there was blood and some hindquarters and saw its jaws sticking through the door. Actually, it was probably a mating ritual in the sense that it was likely two males fighting over mating territory. Can you imagine the violence that alligators operate with when... like they're rolling some you know the death roll that whole thing whew no man no thank you but to see that in your back porch that i mean it's just the unexpected nature of it all so i guess what i'm saying is if you know this takes place april through september that's mating season So for the next good while, guess what? Most everybody listening in Florida to this program, you're an alligator territory. So keep your pets and your children and yourself away from areas where alligators are. Just saying. My second story is a bit briefer. This is short and sweet. Generative AI. may significantly reduce the number of animal experiments. We were just talking about that with Dr. Matthew Zadam in last hour, the experiments on trying to help figure out Parkinson's disease, the number of mice and rats. For example, one of the three big stories, there are three big stories here. All right. One is John Brennan saying there's a legion of intelligence bureaucrats working against President Trump. And we've highlighted the word legion. What an ironic choice of words from someone who I believe operates as an evil person. The word legion. And some of you are like laughing at that because you know exactly what I mean. Then there's the Twin Cities. wage hikes that they pushed out on on employers in Minnesota getting roasted because the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis said it has destroyed jobs it is destroyed it is killed jobs and it is reduced hours duh but the third story that I want to expand on just a touch here is former South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaugh was found guilty of murdering his wife and son. It was a big trial, a lot of publicity. He was convicted, but there's an appeal that was filed before the, and it went to the state Supreme Court, and it ruled unanimously that he is to be given a new trial. And my hunch will be that he's released from prison pending the new trial.

The court said that Mary Rebecca Hill, who was the court clerk of Colleton County, showed quoting from the ruling, improper external influences during the trial. She made improper comments to jurors the day that Murda testified instructing jurors to watch his body language. That's not her job to do that. It's not even remotely her job to do that. She also showed sealed evidence photos to journalists and then lied about it in court as well as used her position to promote a book she was writing about the case. I had a listener send me a good buddy of mine said that she pled guilty to obstruction of justice and perjury in 2025. And that was the entire basis for the call for a retrial. I was shocked. When this story posted. I was shocked at the number of people that every one of those Supreme Court justices should be thrown out. No, every one of them should be applauded. I personally think he's guilty, and I think the second trial will prove that. Now, there's a huge obstacle here. The prosecution is going to have to prove that he can have a fair trial. He's been convicted and has been serving time in prison. Good luck finding jurors, although I know it can be done because I know that there are enough people that don't follow the news. But that's still going to be a bit of a mountain decline, finding impartial jurors in this case. I think if they find an impartial jury, the prosecution will prove beyond reasonable doubt his guilt. I believe that's the case. But the fact that the Supreme Court ordered a new trial. is not wrong. It's 100% correct. And it astounded me the number of people that were calling for their heads. He's guilty. It doesn't matter. No, it does matter. Fair trials are everything. It is the backbone of our judicial system, a fair and impartial trial. And so once again, I find myself a contrarian with so many who think that this court went rogue on them. No, it's a unanimous Supreme Court in one state. And that unanimous rulings by a Supreme Court at any level are usually indicative of something. And so I think it was a terrific ruling. And I think it's a small but important win for... judicial fairness, which in a country like ours is imperative. And to that end is something that, for example, Tata Damiac of the U.S. Navy that is sitting in prison right now, he deserves a retrial. Actually, he should be released and no trial should be brought because he was framed by the federal government, by the ATF. He's written a letter. in his own defense to the acting to the head of ATF, and Lee Williams has published it. You ought to check it out in his work, the gunwriter.substack.com. 41 minutes pass. This was fascinating to me. Who was the person that started OMG? Where's ground zero for OMG? You know, it's one of those questions that I love finding answers to things like, it's like, who was the first person? that squirted a bottle of water into the mouth of an athlete. And who was that athlete? Was it a protocol of the team to keep guys from getting sick? You know what I'm saying? We're guys sharing bottles, putting it close to their mouth and maybe having a touch. And so a team said, no, no, no, we're going to get trainers and they're squirting it in your mouth. You're not touching it because we got to keep you guys healthy. I mean, that's plausible, right? But I'm always wondering, where did that start? Who is the first? So who was the first to write OMG? Unless you happen to have seen this story, I could let you guess for the rest of your life and you wouldn't come up with it.

The origin of OMG is Sir Winston Churchill. It is an acronym of course for, oh my God. It became very popular on the internet in the 1990s. But the first known use of the acronym dates back to a letter written to Churchill. In 1917, while he was serving his first lord of the Admiralty in the British Navy. The letter was written by John Arbuthnot Fisher, who often quarreled with Churchill. Actually, it wasn't Churchill. It was this guy. I'm sorry. There's your trivia question. John. Arthbuthnot, Arth, sorry, Arbuth, Arbuth not, Fisher. He wrote, I hear that a new order of knighthood is on the table, or the tapus. Oh, M.G, he wrote in parentheses, oh my God. Shower it on the Admiralty. That's where it first appeared. 1917 in a letter to Winston Churchill. How crazy is that? So to be clear, it was a letter written to Winston Churchill in 1917 by John Arbuthnot Fisher. First sea lord, the Navy's highest ranking officer at that time. So there's your trivia question. I would just say John Fisher. Arbeth not. Arbeth not? Arbeth not doing that. So there you go. Now you know. Let's see. Some other little facts here regarding that. OMG was added to the Oxford English Dictionary. How can you add an acronym to a dictionary? It's not a word. See, that's how far we've fallen from the tree. It was added to the dictionary in 2011. There you go. Look at it. That's one of the reasons why people listen to this show to hear me mispronounced names.
