The downtown is turning to this a blender of menacing, drug addicts, alcoholics, mentally ill patients, drug dealers, bums, thugs, punks, people crapping on the street, urinating on the sidewalks. In the latest rash, teens run wild. They take over the city three or four times. They go nuts. It's so bad. It's so bad the Pittsburgh public school system acknowledges it and sent this out yesterday. Listen, this is crazy. Listen. They sent this out yesterday. Listen to this. It's kind of creepy, actually. message regarding student safety. We are aware of recent incidents involving youth gatherings downtown as well as information circulating about a planned downtown takeover event this Friday. Please note that this event is not sanctioned, not supervised, and poses of serious safety concern for our students. We urge all families to discourage their children from attending. Yeah. This happens a lot downtown, does it not, sir? Every couple of days we're hearing about new incidents downtown. And it emanates from either the schools or the bus stops or in this case just kids go downtown to raise hell. Yeah, on the weekend. Yeah. Going downtown just to create chaos. Someone who lives downtown and sees this. Kathy? Hey, Marty. Hearing that tape. How are you? Hearing that tape. What are you feeling? Anxious? You reliving it? What are you feeling when you hear that insanity?

Yeah, I mean, I hear that a lot. I keep in close contact with a lot of different organizations downtown. So it does not surprise me. This has been going on for a long time. This isn't, it's gotten worse. You're absolutely right. But this is an ongoing public safety problem. And it's, it's. It frightens me. I'm not going to lie about that, you know. It's not comforting and it's not a warm and fuzzy feeling that I want to have when I'm downtown. Hey, Kathy, that tape scares the hell out of me. I mean, that's mayhem, sister. I mean, mayhem, Kathy. Yeah. Yeah, I see it a lot. There's times when I'm walking downtown and I have to leave and just, you know, get somewhere real quickly just to get out of the situation or just not be outside, which is not what I want to do, you know, especially with everything that's going on in Market Square, you know, the beautification that the PDP is putting forward, you know, not just for this draft that's coming up, but this is supposed to help the city in the next decade to come. We don't need this. We need something different. You know, everybody's working. I'm not saying that they are not working on solutions, but something's not, whatever they're working on is not working. Hey, Kath, no one more honest than you, no one has seen this more than you. Patrick mentioned this. It kind of comes in waves almost daily, doesn't it? Yeah, I mean, it's very weather dependent. Obviously, you know, whenever it's nice, obviously Sunday was, I mean, we had that terrible rain, so I'm not sure why it went on for so long. Yeah, yeah, I'm not sure, but Sundays tend to be a very bad day. And I haven't figured out exactly why. I don't know if the kids don't start until school till later, but they can go all day and all night on Sundays. That went on until late into the 10, 10, 30 evening where some other issues happened that I had seen, you know, fighting and beating and, you know, taking things from local businesses and, you know, especially planners, grabbing these planters and trees and all the things that they're planting and the planters down in the market square for the beautification. They're just ripping them out and throwing them. Hey, if someone told me one of these kids, he was 11 years old, grab one of those. like ropes outside a club yeah there's a bar down yeah yeah they were attacking people with it yeah several of them not just it's a young kid but there's also a couple of kids that were older than that and they were doing the same thing and so the owner of that establishment had to go out in the in the midst of all of that and find those ropes. So she's out there, you know, basically risking her life to try to find those ropes to bring them back in. And she keeps them there so that it keeps people away from her window, so they're not hanging up against her window smoking and doing other things like that. Yeah. Kath, can you hang? Can you hang? Yeah. It's harder here and that she has to live this and that this is the truth for the folks who think downtown is so wonderful right now. She's living it, man. Wow.

But the notion that I'm a bad guy because I rip on downtown and I suck and I'm a liar and it's a misnomer. Kathy knows this. We've actually known each other more than 20 years. And quite frankly, she was a really good reporter and kind of knows her facts and kind of looks and sees and feels. So this notion that none of this happens downtown Kath, and this is just a mirage, is kind of sort of wrong, isn't it, my friend? Yeah, I mean, you know, I think everybody knows it's happening. They're just trying to, they're really trying to figure out the right way to do it. I'm not saying it's an easy job and it's an easy fix. It can't happen overnight. It didn't come to be overnight. You know, there's so many different cultural and social and different things that are happening in the world today that are driving these kids to do this kind of stuff. And I am always a firm believer, you know, and things that you preach a lot, too, is a lot of it starts at home. And, you know, it's, it's a, I would not want to be a parent of a child today right now. My kids are grown and I'm thankful for that because it's extremely difficult. But, you know, I just. as a person who tries to always be glass half full and having a hard time lately. But I also continue to be optimistic. You know, I know that the police are working to encourage all the businesses in Market Square to get cameras posted outside so that they can have full monitoring access of everything that's going on. So there are so many different efforts that are happening. But how much time do we have? you know and this is not just like i said for the draft this is this is the draft in my opinion is a moment in time i'm with kathy it's going to be a week of craziness and sanity of this is so going forward yeah kathy let me point out something that you know to be true and so does patrick as he sits here and so does every cop that listens and every business owner we've had on the show So I have the public safety director on here tomorrow. Sheldon Williams about this very issue. And he mentioned to me yesterday that, you know, not one of those kids was arrested from Sunday night. They were all sent home.

So you talk about responsibility. They turn these kids over to, hey, Kathy, the kids that beat the hell out of that 55-year-old woman knocked her unconscious, they knocked her unconscious downtown and kicked her ass downtown. And her husband saved her life downtown. They had their parents pick them up. No one went to jail. So, I mean, what's the message? Hey, man, them cops ain't doing nothing downtown. That's not the truth. I mean, I've seen it firsthand what they do. It's out of their control once it gets beyond them. Exactly. Yeah, that's the part where the system is shattered right now and needs a lot of fixing to do, you know, to make it. worth mean anything and you know it's it's that's beyond my my knowledge and pay grade and ability but that's the part where you know I know the businesses in the area feel the same way too I mean what everybody's concerned about each other we worry about everybody worries about staff customers merchants you know neighboring businesses and and everybody just wants to be safe and and be able to run the businesses like they have always done. That's what's going to continue to keep downtown the vibrant place that we all love. But when you can't run those businesses like that. it's it's not a pretty you know it's not rosy it's not going to look like a like the way everybody wants it to be we have to just start being very realistic about that Kathy you're very connected because of your position and how long you've been there and that people trust you and know you these business owners and you know this a lot of them are ready to give up they've had it is that fair is that fair yeah Yeah, I mean, so many of them. I have heard from, I could tell you 10, you know, and some of the stories, the stories they tell me, you know, are mind-blowing of what they've had to deal with. Mind-blowing. And they, some of them don't know where to go. They don't know, you know, so there's been a, a public safety kind of a sort of chamber of commerce, if you will, for Market Square created. And, you know, a merchant runs it down here. She's kind of ahead of it and works with the police on it. So there are efforts every day happening. And we just have to keep pushing on. We just have to keep doing it and keep talking about it and getting to the right people to help make that change because it's hot. You live and work downtown and walk downtown by yourself at night. Have you feared for your life? Um, I did not. I would say a year ago, I did not. And I don't think I fear for my life, but I look over, I am 360 in my head all the time now. And I'm very, very cautious about what times that I'm out and where I am. So it's, it's changed drastically in a year. For the worse. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It was like a brush fire. Now it's like a raging inferno. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. So why are like city leaders and the governor? Why are so many of these people in denial of this? Like we're lying. Like this is some fabricated BS. Why are they doing that? I don't know. Honestly, I mean, we've had so many different discussions with them, whether it's physical emails, any kind of communication. And I don't have an answer for that. Well, I can't handle the truth, Kath. Come on. Yeah, I mean, we know that. Come on. Come on. Yeah, as a drunk, so put the booze in the, what? Hide it? What? I don't know. Kathy, I love you. It's very honest and open, and I hope this, because they hear from someone so credible, they kind of believe you. Thank you. Yeah, no, I appreciate all that you do, too, Marty. Thank you so much. Patrick, it's she nails him, brother. You can feel her pain, too. Yeah, she sees it and lives it every day. My man. It's Trevor, this is not cool. This is not an environment which you would put your wife or one of your kids, is it, sir? No, no way, brother. Not at all. No way, man. And the notion that it's not like this is a bald-faced lie.

Back in the day when I would go to New York and hang and work, they had these guys on the streets with these paper towels. It was ignorant, ma'am. And they would jump on a car you were in with a paper towel and annoy you by trying to clean the window and then want money. If you didn't give money, they drop the F-bomb at you and throw stuff at you. It was annoying. They had... Panhandlers all over the place. They had people selling dope. This is New York. 70s. I was young. And then the mayor said to hell with this, and he started messing with everybody. He's got the cops. He got the city involved. They called it the broken window policy. In other words, we're going to arrest you for breaking a window. We're going to arrest you for the most minor infraction, and we're going to make sure it sticks. And they turned around a city that had 9 million people. We got 300,000. What's my point? They could do it if they wanted to. But they have to be honest about it. All they talk about is how wonderful Pittsburgh is in this renaissance and the draft. And that's cool. And I'm cool with all that. But a city is like a family. Everybody isn't the Walton's, man. Every family has drama. Every family has issues. They just acknowledge it or they don't or they hide it, right? Pittsburgh's that house that you go to that before you get there, they throw all their crap in the closets and then it's cool while you're there and then as soon as you leave, they take the crap out of the closets. It's that town. I don't care. You want to anyone out there want to go on a walk. You name the person, Herky Pollock, the mayor, the governor. You tell me where. I'll go with you, but I'm bringing Patrick and we're going live. And we'll take your little walk downtown, then we'll take mine. That's it. We'll put a window on it and we'll talk. No one will do that. Why? Because they know. But why wouldn't they acknowledge it and say part of the issue is we have to address this insane teen problem downtown? By the way, I have the public safety director coming in tomorrow, which is cool. We go way back, but very directly I'm going to talk to him about this stuff, and he knows this because I was talking with him yesterday. Someone has to acknowledge that it's a joke. And it's grimy downtown, man. It's kind of gross. It is. Sure, there are cool steakhouses. Hell yeah, man. Sure, Herky Pollock has great restaurants. Yeah, the guy knows his business, but he's full of crap with regards to the big picture and making a place. I've always said this. If my kids could play soccer on the streets downtown at 9 o'clock, then I'll live downtown. I think that's fair. But they can't. Period. Brother Anthony.

Well, Marty, I did something I've never done before. I was talking to a president of a nonprofit here in the Garfield area, and we were discussing this issue on ICE and what happened over the weekend with the juvenile delinquent. And he said, you know, there's a council meeting tomorrow on ICE. And he said, go down. So I went. And I testified before counsel yesterday, first time of my life. It was on the news, and I'm on their feed and everything. They're in-house feed. But I told them how I felt, and I told them they're delusional. And then after, I got a chance to talk to the three, the Motley crew who decided that this law, the Hinder Ice was good, which was Warwick and Thrasbourg and Growth. I mean, these people were more out of touch than I thought they were. Hell yeah. I mean, they're just gone. And I let them know they were gone. Let's address, let's address Barb, because I like her. She's a nice person. But she obsesses on jacking with ice. But she won't address this, this madness. Why? Because it's not woke enough. All those poor kids. Oh, Marty, those poor kids. And I told them that. I said, we have more important issues going on in the city. I think, you know, Marty, all these children are being let down by the people who should be holding them responsible. Hell yes. The parents, their school district, and the, in the justice system, if needed. They're all being let down by these leaders. Hold on one second. Especially the ones on. Hold on one second. Trevin, real quick. What did, what? What did you say your dad would do, ma'am? If you were downtown doing this stuff when you were growing up, what did you say your dad would do? Oh, I might as well stay there. I mean, don't even come home. You kick your ass. Oh, most definitely. I mean, wherever I was, I might as well just stay. Well, Marty, you know, I hate when I get on there and talk about what happened during my youth. Look, but when I was growing up, I mean, you had three juvenile facilities. Morganza, Thorne Hill, and Juvenile Court. Oh, wow. And if you acted up, it would be what degree you would get to before you got the Morganza and Thorne Hill. They were tough places. I was in juvenile court. I was in juvenile court. I never got the other two. But anyway. Well, what human look like now? It's a hauled out old relic. Because why? Because those crazies on council have cut off the funding because they don't believe that anyone should be held accountable. It's not, they live in some fantasy world that it's, it's not the children's fault. It's society's fault. My man, someone hits me in the bottle of the head. I don't care what mommy says. That kid's going to jail. I'll spend the next one. Huh?

But Marty, it's going, it's happening all over the country. It is urban areas. They're getting on TikTok. It is. And they're having these flash mobs coming down there, baiting stores or baiting streets. Patrick, you mentioned that this morning. Right? You mentioned in several cities that we've seen this. Yeah, we have. We've seen it downtown before. Yep. Marty, I have it on good authority for my grandson. that they expect something he gets bigger for the draft. They're coming from all over the country for a flash mob. Oh, wow. They're a big draft. Wow. Something to look forward to. Yeah. Yeah. So, well, it depends on what the authorities are going to do. You're going to have more of the federal authorities here then. Well, hold on. Let me stop you there. My friends with the feds who were on the kind of the planning of this said that they ain't putting up with this. Those juveniles won't be running nowhere those days. Well, let's just hope. But let's hope that it's stopped. So the authorities get to be, look, the parents have to be held accountable. They're holding parents accountable around the country for their kids coming up, shooting up schools and they're putting the parents. Well, you've got to start putting these pair, holding some of these parents accountable for the actions of their children, period. Yeah, but we've been telling that story between me and you for 20 years on this show. Well, that's because they got the wrong politicians. And they didn't like me saying, except for the police. I met some police after my speech. They, they loved me. They said finally somebody came in here with some common sense. And I said that my vote, that's all I wanted to do, which hopefully they listened. That's why I listened to those three cooks. Well, your guy. We have you right now. We have you live on the stream. Oh, man. Patrick, you're looking good, man. Wow. I told you. Hey, the only one who made sense was the guy from the south side. And the guy you and I walked around. Was he there the mayor of the south side? Was he there? No, the councilperson. Oh, I see. Yeah. Bobby. Yeah. I talked to him and I talked to the guy that you and I, and Patrick walked around it. You were walked with the homeless stuff that we saw. Yeah. Max. Yeah. They have comments since the rest of them are crazy. Anthony, my man. Thanks, brother. All right, brother. We've been telling this story for 20 years and nothing's changed. That's what's scary. And what's scarier is... Kathy speaks the truth. She said it's worse than ever. And that's horrible for this city.

Don't misinterpret my angst regarding downtown. Don't misinterpret that into Marty Griffin doesn't like Pittsburgh. That's the ridiculous Herky Pollock rhetoric. The guy who drives in limos and lives in penhouses has no clue what life on the streets is like. He's a multi, multi-maintor. God bless him. But this crap that I don't know downtown, my man Herkey, I'll meet you any place, anytime. Not to fight, but with a camera and we'll walk downtown. Me and you. No security people. Me and you, buddy. Big boy. The truth will set you free. I'm a firm believer in acknowledging the truth and setting a plan and moving on. Cities like marriages, man. If you don't work on them, they fall apart. It's just a damn truth. Pittsburgh right now is kind of a dysfunctional marriage. It just is. You have woke folks obsessed by ICE. It aggravates me to no end that city council, and I like Barb Warwick because she answers the phone and she never, ever refused to come on air. However, comma, they put out a list. This irritates me so much because it just kind of underlines how annoyingly ridiculous they are. They put out a list of 15 agencies they're working with. for the NFL draft and they left off ice one that is just that is seventh grade that's i didn't invite her to the party and invited everybody else i'll show her ladies gentlemen forget about it here's the truth ice will be at the draft i could put 50 videos right now on our stream body cam videos of pittsburgh cops working with ice Is that not true, Patrick? Absolutely. They're all over the place. We just don't want to expose the cops, quite frankly. Yeah, they're everywhere. They're everywhere. And in many cases, Pittsburgh cops came in to help them. Many cases. It's ignorant, man. It's ignorant. It just irritates me to know. And they spent all their time with this crap about banning ice from Pittsburgh. They don't give a damn about kids taking over downtown? People crapping on the streets? Come on, man. You know why they can't? Because they can't manage it. They can't fix it. They'll point their finger at ice. Come on, man. Ice will be at the NFL draft. I promise you. They will. Good, Fred. Appreciate your patience. Hey, Maury. I just want to let you know that kids downtown. He plays a big role in that as a PRT. I have a friend of his driver. He's right. He's right. And they, these kids will just walk right on. They walk right past the driver. Yep. Yep. And PRT doesn't want nothing for you to do, for them to do anything. Well, they don't want the kids punching them out and stabbing them because drivers have had many incidents. It's a horribly tough job, as you know. Yeah, but PRT is playing a big role in getting these kids down there. Completely great. And by the way, to your point, brother, it's so important they thought about moving the bus stops to outside the city because they take the bus downtown to race hell. You know that too, right?
