Well, we're going to get into a ton of stuff on the show today. And not just the national stuff, state stuff as well. Where are all those hunting and fishing fees going? You'd be surprised to learn. A lot of them are not going to support anglers and hunters. All right. We'll get all of that stuff coming up, the politics, the culture stuff. Obviously, we'll talk about the Charlie Kirk Memorial Service. that took place over the weekend. Hard to get a true crowd estimate. About 60,000, 70,000 somewhere in that neighborhood. And then there were people outside who weren't counted. But that was the venue and then an overflow venue. I think there were about 20,000 an overflow venue around 40,000 in the main venue. And then there were however many people outside. And it was.
being broadcast globally as well. So it's hard to say how many people were able to see it. Many, many people watch the live stream or at least watch the video afterwards. And the biggest, most amazing thing that happened was when Erika Kirk got up and forgave Tyler Robinson. She forgave him. In front of the entire world, she forgave the man who murdered her husband. Forgave him. And this has got people, you know, some people who are Christian understand what she did. Some people who are cut on the edges, they're like, what? I couldn't do it. I couldn't forgive him. How did she forgive him? Did she really forgive him? Look, she said she forgave him. I think lying about forgiveness is not something Charlie Kirk was about or Erika Kirk is about. They're both incredibly devout Christians. So I believe her when she says, I forgive you. But. it's it is kind of it's sort of bending people's brains a little bit here even people on our side lots of people in our side i could never forgive him um you know she can forgive him that's fine but i'm not going to forgive him well listen folks god forgave him erika forgave him so if you're out there saying i'm not going to be look What she's trying to tell the world, and by the way, the entire 60,000 whatever, you know, crowd stood up and cheered when she did that. They cheered forgiveness. What she's trying to tell the world is... forgiveness breaks the cycle of sin. It breaks the cycle of resentment. It's the hardest thing to do. But it breaks the cycle. That's what Charlie Kirk was trying to do. More than anything, more than convert people to vote for Donald Trump, more than, you know, get people to shake off the malaise of wokeism. He was trying to get people to break the cycle. of self-enslavement, sin, resentment, bitterness, siloing. That's what it was supposed, that's what his mission, I think, even as you could call it a ministry was. And there she is telling the world, I forgive him because that's what Christ would do. That's what Charlie would do. To have her, and I get people are kind of like, I just don't think I could forgive them. I don't know if you couldn't. I think you might be able to. I think the whole idea of this is so radical to people who aren't used to it that a whole bunch of people went online and looked up forgiveness. Think about that. It's amazing. Even if there are people out there sort of digging into bitterness and saying, I will never forgive.
There's a whole bunch of people out there saying, how did she do that? How did she get to a place where she could forgive her husband's murderer? It's the first step. It's the invitation to Jesus is what she invited the world to freedom. through forgiveness. It's such a radical thing. And if you're non-believer, you don't get it. It is such a radical thing that freedom begins with forgiveness. Everything else is an enslavement, to misery, to resentment, to ego, to sin, bitterness. It's really, really hard. But she's an inspiration to the planet right now because she called everyone. She invited everybody. This is how you, this is your first step to real freedom. You begin by forgiving. It's so, I couldn't believe it. I was awed to hear or do it. I was in tears listening to people cheer. I actually was listening to her speech and I was holding it together okay. But when the crowd erupted, when she says, I forgive him, I thought to myself, something special just happened. I don't know how to put my finger on it, but something special. Erika Kirk just opened up the party, the party for God to the whole world. With three words, I forgive him. It's, yeah, we all, we all fall short, among them, but among everyone. But it's, I couldn't stop thinking about it all weekend. I thought about forgiveness all weekend because.
When she said it, I believe she was speaking sincerely and from her heart. And I believe that God was by her side on that stage. And she may have just done more for the world. then all our organizing and all our crap posting on social media and everything under the sun that we think we can do to manage the disaster. She may have done more with those three words to manage this disaster than all of our efforts put together. We'll be right back. We are back. Welcome back to the program. It's the Vicki McKenna Show. And if you're in that song, that must mean that Brian Schimmings in the studio. That's your theme song, man. It kind of is. Republican Party chair, Brian Schumming. Do me a favor, Brandon, and turn up the Brian's mic in my headset just a bit. That would be nice. All right. Well, you can never hear me loud enough. I know. You know what? Don't shout. No, no, no, no, no. So before we get to the politics going on in Wisconsin, we've got a whole bunch of Democrats in the gubernatorial race, let's, but just real quickly. Your sense of what shifted after the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Yeah. Because it seems everything shifted, everything shifted. And I don't even mean necessarily politically, but everything shifted. The vibe shifted from, you know, just being irritated at being called a fascist to now our people just saying. We're pretty much over this. It's landing flat. Let's put it that way. Yeah, I was talking to somebody about this in Grand Rapids. I was there for a meeting last week. And I said, you know, this is the first. We were kind of talking about why this was so impactful. And I said, number one, Charlie's an impactful guy. And anybody who knows him or has worked with him, I mean, knows how impactful. But the second thing is something we usually only see out of other countries. And that is an assassination on. television of a political figure. You don't, you know, you see that and you think you're out in South America or over in Europe or Ukraine or something like that. But we saw the assassination of a major political figure and you saw people from the left cheering about it.
And so I think where we are here in this country is there are a lot of people that maybe weren't engaged before or they were with us, but whatever. And they saw an assassination of a conservative political figure essentially on live TV. And in fact, we were talking yesterday, a lot of people saw it, you know, because they couldn't avoid seeing it. And so I think this is a huge... I mean, it's the tragedy of it. I was listening to talk about Erika Kirk, who just, wow, I don't know how you do that. I mean, you do, but you know how a person can do it. But she was... So forthright and so, you know, the forgiveness part of her speech that really called on all of us to be better folks. But I think it also called on all of us to say we can't put up with what we've been putting up with. We have to change this country. Well, and it also, you know, this was a moral litmus test for a whole bunch of people. Nobody expected to see a man shot. on 4K live stream. Right. So it was a really easy test. It was, all you had to do was not cheer. And millions and millions and millions of people failed that test. And a whole bunch of people saw millions fail and said, I don't want to be that. Right. I don't want to be. I, even if, you know what, even if people on the left. who, you know, would, you know, there's a term for it. I'll call it crap posting. It's actually more profane than that. Who are engaged in this back and forth on social media, which isn't real life. Right. You know, Sank Weger, the people like that, they pulled the stick back and they said, that's not what I thought I was about. I thought it was about something different. I disagree with these people, but that's not me. or Bill Maher, Van Jay Jones, just on CNN over the weekend, making Anderson Cooper very uncomfortable talking about this. So that's what, which I don't think it changes the hearts and minds of the people who are out at the Charlie Kirk Memorial Service screaming. I hope your baby dies. Right, yeah. Which was happening, you know. But I don't know what you do to change that person because, but what I think happened was the vibe shift is. Not the media, not the elites, but there are some people who just went, ick. Yeah. I disagree with, you know, I disagree with, you know, Brian or Vicky or the Republicans or whatever, but that I don't want. to be part of that. I also think they don't want to have that reckoning, Brian, because if they have that reckoning, then the significant portion of the Democrats would have to reject a significant portion of the Democrats. Well, it shows who they are every once in a while. It doesn't happen often enough. But every once in a while, you, in the public arena, you have moments of clarity.
something like the assassination which is what it was the assassination of charlie kirk makes people sit up or sit back and go that's not me or that's not what i'm about or that's not what i want this country to be about so is it great that we have to have those moments awful but charlie kirk's assassination on a much lower level but impactful new york is about to elect a communist mayor there are moments of definition george will of all people george will said a couple of weeks ago he hoped new york would elect a communist mayor because it takes this moment every you know twenty or thirty years for people to repel and go that's not what we're about. Well, I'll tell you something where George Will was just sort of, you know, viciously cheering on the demise of New York. Right. That's what I think he was doing. When you put that in context with the Charlie Kirk assassination, what I'm hoping that New York, because it's very important, as goes New York, so goes a whole lot of other big cities in the United States. Because once you electing socialism, communism, it does not. It does not go easily into that good night. You have to fight it out. So once you do it, it's not like they're going to wake up the next election cycle and throw out the commie. It doesn't happen. Commies won't let them do it. We've seen that in Venezuela. You see that in every place that has decided to go full socialist, full communist, full communist. But when you put it in the, with the backdrop of the political assassination, I do think that sort of the broader message. in the United States, maybe not for New York, I think they might be lost, is don't do that. Right. And to hear, again, so many thousands and thousands of people cheer the concept of forgiveness. I mean, maybe there is, maybe it will begin. I don't think it begins in New York, but maybe it will begin somewhere. Although I must say, Brian, the establishment politicians. Put aside the talking heads like Van Jay Jones or Sank or whoever else, right? Bill Maher. Put aside the talking heads. They're not elected. The elected Democrats are either keeping their mouth shut for the most part or they're piling on Elon Musk Omar, Jasmine Crockett. I haven't seen the Democrats pull the stick back in Wisconsin. No one's told Francesca Hong to stop calling, you know, her political opponents fascists, right? Well, one of our moments of clarity here in Wisconsin was Act 10, where you had thousands of people surrounding, invading, you know, trying to chase people like us off the, you know, Capitol steps.
And the Democrats would all say under their, they'll say under their breath, oh, I'm not for this. This is a bad look for the party, blah, blah, blah. Would they say it out loud? No. They wouldn't say, I mean, you remember that. I mean, they wouldn't say, I mean, we're surrounded multiple times. I was over there every day. They won't say it out loud. So in that respect, we have a moment of clarity here. But moments of clarity don't matter unless you do something about it. And that's, I think, where we are right now politically. Yeah, but who's the dumb who's coming out to say, you know, we got to cool off people. Nobody. Nobody. Nobody. Is it Sarah Rodriguez? No, is it Francesca Hong? Oh, hell no. That woman's just constantly, you know, throwing sticks of dynamite out on social media. Now she wants to seem like she's, everybody's, you know, favorite Wisconsin. No, you're your hardcore leftist from Madison. And with her, she doesn't do it for clicks. She does it because that's who she is. Right. She's a true believer. So, so, and I haven't seen this. So there, you know, the Democratic Party has not made in any kind of move. They've tried to have no influence. You know, you don't have Evers trying to impose any influence of anything. Evers is essentially telegraphed to all of the radicals. Hey, I'm your guy. I'm not going to go out and I'm not going to throw bombs, but I'm your guy. I mean, signing off on rulemaking that eliminates mother and father. You know, back to Francesca Hong, she calls mothers birthing persons. Right. You know, this is somebody who thinks that one of the most important things during Easter is to honor the penthouse pet of the month, which just happened in April, by the way. I'm sorry, Pennhouse Pen of the Year. You know, the Dems have made this bed, and I'm just wondering, I don't think they can unmake it, Brian. I think that. Their commentators maybe can help somewhat here. But in terms of, you know, the way their party is structured, they depend on the radicals. They depend on the people who are out there dancing in the streets, delighted that Charlie Kirk is dead, mocking the morning of a widow. You know what I mean? They're kind of married to that, to that. group of people and I don't know how they excise themselves without going into political oblivion and I don't think they want to do that. Well, and that therein lies the problem in the current train wreck, the island of misfit toys of the Democratic gubernatorial primary right now because somebody like...
Francesca Hong, who had been laughed out of the room 25 years ago, is suddenly a legitimate candidate to be the governor of this state. And as I said to the folks of the White House a couple of weeks ago, I said, look. This is what happens in Wisconsin, especially in a Democratic primary in this state. It's, as I always say, it's like taking your car in to get fixed. After a big accident, you take it out in the road and all of a sudden the frame's bent. It's veering to the left or it's veering to the right. Well, the Democrat car veers to the right. When you have primaries like this, this big mess of a primary that they're having right now would have been unthinkable. A couple of years ago, think about the Democrat primary against Ron Johnson. They forced billionaire candidates out of the primary in the last two weeks so they could force Mandela Barnes, one of their most left-wing candidates ever through the primary. They aren't doing that right now. This ridiculous assortment of candidates, including Kel de Royce, was run for statewide office three times and lost. These people suddenly are legitimate candidates. Yeah. And let me just quote, you know, Francesca Hong, who, again, just like Calder Rice, I believe the fascist regime in power is using ICE to erode our trust in our neighbors. Oh, God. Fascist? Right. So, again, what do you do to fascists, you know? You certainly don't sit down at a table and debate with fascists. No, you crush fascists. So she's, this is Wisconsin. Yeah, she means it, which is why I say, and I've been saying I was at a board meeting on Saturday morning, and I said, this is a clarion call for people this moment that you're talking about right now to take action, to do something, not just watch it or listen to radio or to whatever. It's time to do something to make sure. that we get through this and freedom, which Charlie Kirk talked about all the time, you know, lives in this country. I was saying to someone late yesterday, I guess it was, they're like, oh, I don't know anything about politics. I was like, you know what? We're trying to recruit 5,500 volunteers. to poll work right now. In Wisconsin, I mean, this is how small it can be. In Wisconsin, you have to recruit poll workers, that is to say, people who work with the clerks at the polls on Election Day or an early vote by November of the year before the election. So by this November 30th,
By state statute in Wisconsin, the parties have to submit their names of poll workers for next year for 2006 and for April of 2007. By state law, those lists have to be submitted the year before, in this case, the end of November. You got to get on it. I mean, that's the thing. So all local parties need to have explicit recruitment efforts. Yep. Every single one of them. I don't know what's going on with Dane. I know they're coming up on an election, whatever. In the meantime, you need to be hardcore recruiting. There needs to also be, Brian, because these are not full-time staffed operations at the county level. Right. There needs to be kind of a clearinghouse. Hi, my name's Joe Schmo. I want to be an election worker. Call me back. Send me an email. And there needs to be a person tasked with contenting all those people. In the meantime, since in this... You know, I would contact Salk County GOP, Dane County, GOP, Columbia County, GOP. I'm just thinking of our TSA here. I can make it even easier than that. Go to our website, wishgop.org, WISGOP.org. WISGOP.org. Go down to the drop-down undertake action, and you can sign up right there. Perfect. And we refer the name to the county that you're in. By the way, if you're going to be a poll worker, you don't have to do it in the community you're in. If you live in Madison, you can cover Lodi or Stoughton. or Pittsburgh or wherever. So go to wistgop.org and sign up. We give the names to the counties because the counties are the one who submit the names. Ultimately, this, we had the biggest recruitment drive in state history two years ago to help protect elections as we did on Ron Johnson's election. So sign up to do that at wishchop.org. If you want to take a step and honor the moment and take action, the opportunity is as easy. It's got to be, you know, 5,500, Brian, 5,500. So what you want is to say have like. 8,500. So you've got a wait list in case people have to drop out. So this is something that's so easy because otherwise you're going to get people who call you fascists and then say in the exact, in the very same breath, by that I'm reading Francesca Hong. You know, you're a bunch of fascists if you support ICE. Then she says, first and foremost, I give an S.H. Blank T. I care about Wisconsin. No, you don't. You just called half of us fascists. Anyway, Brian Schiming, with gop.org, thanks very much for jumping on today. Thanks for having me. Good to have you, and we will take a break on the Vicki McKenna Show. When I come back, I want to talk about hunters and fishermen and all the money you pay and where's it going? We'll be right back.
Hey, welcome back to the program. It's the Vicki McKenna Show. So last week we highlighted the enthusiasm of the Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection to attempt to run animal farming out of Wisconsin with a 1700% fee increase. The details on that come courtesy of Richard Moore, who reports for the McIver Institute. He's also standing by to talk about something else. He reported on that virtually nobody else caught. And that's our Department of Natural Resources and how all of the money that you anglers and you hunters pay, a significant portion of that never makes it to the programs you want to support. And Richard joins me on the program on the Middleton Ford Hotline. Hi, Richard. Hello, Vicki. How are you? I'm well, and I do appreciate you doing the work other reporters won't do in Wisconsin. Best we got on the DNR story was everything's awesome. And yet you actually looked at the audit on the DNR and you said everything's not awesome. What did you find out? Well, here's the thing about this. When you read this audit, and apparently you're right, nobody else took the time to read it, or very few people. There were a few Republicans, Rob Stafford, who called out the DNR on this. And a couple of media outlets did take the time to read it. But by and large, it went unreported. And what you come away with when you look at this audit is that either the DNR is dishonest. or it's incompetent, or it's both. You can put me in the latter camp. I think it's both. And then the biggest headline to come out of this whole thing was Paul Smith and the Milwaukee Journal's Sentinel, who said, who reported that the audit gives the DNR a thumbs up. And it is the most laughable article I've ever written or read, most laughable headline I've read in a long, long time. Because you don't even have to dig deep into this audit to find the big takeaway. And the big takeaway is that for years. Our hunters and our anglers and DNR critics have been saying that they've been taking these dollars, these license fee dollars that are supposed to go primarily to benefit programs for hunters and aglers and diverting them elsewhere. And so what pops out at you right away is that only 49.8% of those dollars are going to those programs, less than half, right at half, but less than half. And even worse, when you take a look at the long-term trend, the last audit they did of this was 2006. At that point, it was 57%. Back in 1998, the audit showed it was 73%. And then when you look at the new revenues coming in, only 30% of the new revenues are going into the programs that primarily benefit hunters and anglers with the programs.
like habitat management or fish stocking. They're going elsewhere. Where are they going? Where are they going? Well, wait, Richard, before we get to where they're going. So way back in the day, 73% of the fees were going to the hunters and the anglers. Then it was 56%. Then it was 49%. And now it looks like we're going to be dropping it down to around 30%. And they always seem to want new license fee increases. So where's the money going? No new. Well, we don't know, and that's another big takeaway that comes out of the audit, but it does show the way to reform and what has to be done. Let me point out, too, that not only that those numbers, the 49% show right away that they're diverting money. That's incontrovertible. That's just proof on its base. But what's even worse about it, Dickey, is that they're not just misspending the money in the account, but because they are running a structural deficit, I think it was $10 million, supposed to balloon to $16 million, and they got a one-time shot from the forestry account of $25 million. They are misspending money that the account doesn't even have, which compounds the problem even more. So we get down to where is it going, well, and why don't we know? And this is why reading the audit is so important. You have to look at cost-sharing program. And this is always the great bureaucratic scam. They love cost sharing because if they've got a program that they want to steal dollars from, i.e. fish and wildlife, and hunters and anglers license fees, they inflate the number of hours that go into the cost that they share with other programs. For example, the DNR says that 30% of their administrative costs. administrative overhead is charged off to fish and wildlife because that's how much time is spent. It gets even worse than that. They say that customer service hours in the DNR, they charge 55% of all those hours off to fish and wildlife. So the audit brings up, and it's not the auditor's fault, by the way. This is just the way the system is built and needs reform. So the auditor says, well, where does the 55% come from? How do we know it's 55%? Well, we don't. And as the audit itself points out, you have to take their word for it. Right, because we have cost sharing. We have cost sharing. So cost sharing means... We have soft sharing. Right. So where's an easy way to get more money? You either steal it from other funds, you transfer it from other funds, or you go back to the hunters and the fishermen and you say, you guys cost so much money, we're just going to need to start charging you guys more. Exactly. And so let's say you've got customer service hunters.
And so they say, well, our staff and those customer service centers send 55% of their time on fish and wildlife. So we're going to charge fish and wildlife 55% of their costs. But we don't know. It could be 20%, it could be 10%, and probably is much lower than 55%. The DNR says, and the audit points out, that we don't track customer service staffing time related to fish and wildlife. We don't track staff time by account. but by project. Now, there you go. The DNR has all sorts of wiggle room to charge what they want. There's what they want to. There's no way to know that figure 55% is correct. No way at all, except to take their word. So what kind of audit does that leave you with? So here's the thing that is I'm reading through this and it gets, you're just like, wow. You guys suck, right? This is a terrible agency. This is an agency that is either, you know, as you say, deliberately deceptive or grossly incompetent or both. And this has been going on for years. It's been going on for years. Every audit that has come out has shown something similar that it's been going on for years. The stewardship fund. We've been missing money in this. Why? We finally audit the stewardship fund. We find out, holy cat, something's going haywire in the accounting. I don't care if you are, if you are auditing any agency. Why does it always come out? that it's a disaster but it always comes out after budget time well that's big a couple of points here and that you make great points biggie let's talk about stewardship so in this audit they point out there's some real math errors here you got they they under report undercounted 5.1 million dollars in expenditures uh in the fish and wildlife They also undercounted $5.1 million in revenue. So everybody says, the DNR says, well, that's fine. It all balanced out. But no, it's not fine because it's $5.1 million off on both accounts. And the problem is, and go back to stewardship here, my colleague at the McCarver Institute. to Bill Osmosky pointed out, caught this earlier in the year, that when they reported the number of acres of stewardship land to the legislative fiscal bureau earlier this year, it was 120,000 acres fewer than they reported four years ago. Now, given that the agency didn't sell any land and that most of those lands are under conservation easement in perpetuity, the lands that are owned outright, How in the world does that happen? It can't happen. So they get confronted, and they said, well, it was a glitch. We included the wrong kinds of lands, the non-stewardship lands in the earlier figure. The problem here and the problem with this audit, where it's $5.1 million off on both sides of the ledger, is that these are reports that go to the legislature who use them to make policies. And yet the DNR never correct these errors.
until they are confronted with them. Well, and they don't correct them. They don't even correct them when they're confronted necessarily. You have to force them. First, you have to force the confrontation. And this is one of those things, well, I don't fish or I'm not a hunter. Why does this bother me? This is just a snapshot of government bureaucracy. And how is the Department of Transportation operating? We saw an audit about 10 years ago. It was an absolute fiscal blank show. And nothing changed, right? Stewardship. Oh, sorry. We've just, nothing, nothing changed in stewardship. Nothing's changing here. And I wonder what these nickel and dime mistakes add up to 5.1 here, 5.1 there, you know, $10.6 million here, $15 million there. I don't know. That sounds like real money to me, Richard. It's hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars, and worse yet, they camouflage it all with these smoke and mirrors. And then when it's exposed, as this audit does, if you read it, we don't ever get any action. Right now, we have the Democrats all in on increasing stewardship by millions and millions of dollars, and the Republican bill that was introduced this summer isn't much better. And yet the DNR proudly proclaimed in its documents that it wants 200,000 more acres of land. And that will be just the tip of the iceberg. If you give them money every year to spend on land acquisitions, they will soon. I mean, look, this is. Again, though, budget's over. Everybody's signed off, held hands, walked the plank together on that budget. So whatever happens with this, we'll have to wait until the next budget, Richard. And by the time the next budget rolls around, everyone's going to forget the DNR Fish and Wildlife Audit. Everybody's going to forget the stewardship audit. Everybody's going to forget all of this stuff. But I do appreciate the time and the work you guys do and exposing it. It's just more proof. You should zero-based budget. Thanks very much, Richard. Absolutely. Thank you very much. Good to have you. Good to have you. This is why you zero base. This is why you drop everything to zero and you say, okay. You know, incidentally, it was McIver, if you'll recall, that did the actual first detailed, itemized spreadsheet of Wisconsin State spending that was ever generated. ever we've got legislatures that do these things without even having real numbers we'll be right back welcome back to the program it's the vicki mckenna show a little bit later on in the show we'll get into the more of what appears to be happening behind the scenes on government shutdown It's the same old broken record. We're all sick of hearing it. And the skip happens at the exact same time, right? We're going to walk to the very last moment. And the Democrats are going to threaten a shutdown. And everybody's going to light their hair on fire.
and a bunch of Republicans are going to cave and everybody's going to go back to their respective corners and Chuck Schumer is still going to be throwing spittle, strewn, invective. You know, it's the same thing. Good on John Fetterman over the weekend on CNN who said, look, I don't think this is useful because, you know, maybe he's starting to see that this is, I mean, what does it do for the United States? What does it do for us? Nothing. Senator Johnson, Ron Johnson's going to join me on the program. Perhaps he and Senator John Fetterman are getting together to talk about this because it looks like John Fetterman's getting sick and tired of shutdown theater. As are we all, I don't think it's going to benefit the Democrats. They think somehow they're going to be able to flip the script. Fascist, fascist, fascist, you know? We're all kind of tired of it. We're just tired of it. I'm tired of it. I'm tired of, oh, it's all the Republicans' fault. We shut down the government, it's all the Republicans' fault. Or the Republicans shut down the government, and of course, it's the Republicans' fault. It's always our fault. It's always our fault. Everything is our fault, right? Things go poorly, no matter who is responsible for them. It's our fault. Let's take the FAA. You've got planes that are crashing in the air, near misses going on constantly, antiquated air traffic control systems, DEI, putting the least qualified people in the chairs. When things go wrong, it's all Sean Duffy's fault. They were saying that the man had been sworn in for a month, and it's all Sean Duffy's fault. You know, I don't get how you guys can, like, live like this. I just don't know how you can live a life that isn't just constantly full of stress and misery when absolutely nothing that you do will you take responsibility for. Not saying that the Republicans don't have a responsibility in shutdown politics. Of course they do. But just I'm talking generally speaking. The cities are a disaster in the United States. Why? Because the team Soros with the DNC decided to force left-wing pro-crime district attorneys into positions of power. Judges who are coming out of left-wing law schools refuse to sentence for crimes. Small wonder, you have explosions of crime in those areas. And when people get murdered, when people get robbed, when people get raped, who's fault is it? Well, it's the fascist's fault for supporting the police. It's the fascist's fault for supporting incarceration. It's the fascist's fault. It's always somebody else's fault. We're going to keep doing the exact same thing we are doing because it's the fascist's fault. When we fail, it's the fascist's fault. It's the racist fault. It's the phobic's fault. Fill in your phobic. Transphobe, homophobe, whatever fob. That's this country. That's 50% of the power structure of this country. And the entirety.
almost of the elite media. It's always someone's fault, but just not theirs ever. You know, it sucks when it's actually your fault and you've got to go, wow, that was our fault. Let's not do that twice. Let's try to undo the bad things. But we don't do that. We weaponize it. So expect shut down politics again, and it's always Trump's fault, or it's my fault, or it's your random neighbor who's got an American flag outside his house. It's his fault. Fascists, fascists. That's their new thing. It was racists before. Now it's fascists. Hitler fascists. I mean, at least they could come up with some new schick. Know what I mean? Just annoying to the point where you just want to put, you know, earplugs in and just say, Chuck, shut up. Why do you want power, Democrats? That's another thing. I'm just curious. Why do you want power to make things better? You just want power to, like, stick it to people. It's really bizarre. At least for the most part, the Republicans who are running are giving you policy ideas that they think will make people's lives better. They don't always follow through on it. In fact, they almost never follow through on it. But still, why do you want power? Just to stick it to the fascist, which of course is the person who thinks we should have rule of law and patriotism and. not have open borders and not have crime running rampant on the streets of American cities, you know, stick it to that guy. That appears to me to be the reason you want power, which is, again, what makes Erika Kirk's speech so powerful. Forgiveness, maybe it will start to have some, I don't know. cast off effect on the people who are out there going get them got them i hope so we'll be right back all right well we're going to go scrape out the uh the bowl of media the sludge left behind when you let a bowl sit out you know, for like six weeks. You got to go in there and scrape it all out. That's what we're going to do with Tim Graham, newsbusters.org, Media Research Center. You know, I haven't really seen the takes on how the memorial service was covered, but, you know, leading up to that, Tim, they pretty much tried to make it seem like there really wasn't much going on. And the whole story was about Jimmy Kimmel, you know, the great free speech warrior. Jimmy Kimmel. And so where do we stand? I think we're still on Jimmy Kimmel, it seems to me. Well, there seems to be some buzz this morning that ABC and Kimmel are negotiating a return. You know, this is where the original thing was, Kimmel, he's out of there. And I'm like, well, that's not what they said. I'm more the cynical person when they say somebody suspended indefinitely. I go, mm, a week.
Two weeks a month. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, it's sort of like, what was it? Fareed Zakaria had a show, a Sunday show on CNN. And he plagiarized the business out of somebody. And CNN left him off one show. I mean, so yes, I'm kind of used to people being underpunished. So I, yeah, we'll see. But again. This is ABC saying we only serve a small segment of the public, not the whole public. I agree. That's all these outlets, though. I mean, I lost count. Maybe you have a count on how many media outlets say we sure don't know what the motivation of Charlie Kirk's killer was. You sure have no idea. By the way, we're looking at reports of some guy who is so mad at ABC that he shot through the window of ABC. This guy's a raving... leftist, a raving never, never Trumper. We're not even reporting on that. How about NBC not reporting that a guy screaming free Palestine shot up a wedding over the weekend? We sure can't figure out the motivation must have been somebody with mental illness. You know, I mean, this is, I think people are really just, you know, to bar my mom's phrase, I've had it up to here. with this stuff. And, you know, the ABC wants to bring Jimmy Kimmel back, you know, set the 70 people per market who watch the guy. Okay, whatever. I think we've all just kind of shrugged our shoulders and just gotten to the point where why bother even flipping on the television set anymore? It is a sensitive business. Like, if you want to try to suggest. that a shooter is not the most responsible person. I always say when a violent crime occurs, you blame the violent criminal. But they're very, very touchy. Yes, they're going to pretend it is ludicrous at this point to pretend that the alleged killer here, Tyler Robinson, wasn't political or it wasn't a political act or you can't figure out his motivation. It's like, look, we knew his motivation the minute they... sent out the bullet casing said, catch this fascist. I mean, we all knew what this was. And it made absolutely no sense for Jimmy Kimmel or any other moron to say Maga did it when it could just look at the bullet casings. stupid. We're just pure troll. It's pure troll. At this point, the media is just purely trolling. They're just there. They're either all Baghdad Bob or they're just trolling at this point. We have no idea. I mean, they say that with a straight face. That's that's kind of a combination of Baghdad Bob and trolling, right? You know, mostly peaceful protests, going all the way back to mostly peaceful protests. It's like...
They know it enrages people. I think that's part of the, I think they kind of get, they get, you know, jacked up about that, that they know it just makes people want to punch them. Yes. When you're Ali Valshi and you stand in front of a fire and say it's not generally unruly, you know, everybody can see it. And this is why the credibility of the press isn't just cratered with the Republicans, and it's been that way for a long time. But the independent voters are like, okay, we all know what you're doing. You're all basically wearing donkey ears and being partisans. And so if the news media wanted to be. credible and reliable. They would notice the obvious facts. We all understand that the shooting of Charlie Kirk was a leftist act of violence. That doesn't mean you have to blame Jimmy Kimmel for it or Jasmine Crockett. But it certainly is a leftist act and it makes the left look bad. Now, we all understand when you turn these things around. Right? They're very quick with, we all remember the shooting of Gabby Giffords and other people who died in that shooting, where they went right to Sarah Palin did it because she put a target on a map like Arizona's a state we're interested in, which was preposterous. So, yeah, let's not be so, you know, for them to play so stupid, I said, this is the fascinating thing about people like Kaitlan Collins is they've obviously decided that if they want to be the million dollar anchors in the fanciest uniforms, they have to sound as dumb as possible. Yeah, they do. Tim, how are they? I mean, what's the end game? This is ad-supported content. You got put aside PBS for a second. That was government-supported content. And notice how bizarre and off the rails they would get. Well, here we're going to talk to a person who is a trans trans-trans non-binary furry, and they're going to share their favorite sugar cookie recipe. You know, I mean, NPR just got to the point where it was just ludicrous. But this is ad-supported content. Who's underwriting this? You have major affiliates, say, so 60, as I understand, 66 of 200 affiliates. said, we don't want to air this programming. And two of those were the two largest affiliates ABC had. We don't want to air this programming. You know, that tends to bring immediate executives to attention relatively quickly. And we saw that. But now they're like, let's negotiate him back on the, those affiliates still don't want to air the content, right? But what's the, I mean, if ads are your support system and ratings are ad revenue.
Why are you putting a guy who for the past, you know, 10, 12 years has seen a 40% decline in his readings? How in the hell is that explained by an ad-supported model? I just don't, who's underwriting this stuff? Well, this is sort of the problem that, you know, conservatives have always pointed out. You know, they used to try to demean Rush Limbaugh by saying. Oh, his advertisers are so low grade. Like, it's not a real show because they don't have the standard like Pepsi, Coca-Cola McDonald's kind of ads. So, you know, but it's always been these left-wing networks are considered the establishment. So they're putting their, you know, this, as you suggest, the whole revolt against Kimmel was caused by the affiliates, not by the advertisers. Look, the whole problem with this is Jimmy Kimmel was the same jerk he's been for a decade. or more. It's just that these circumstances were so dire, you know, that there'd been this horrendous act of violence, and he couldn't tune it down one way. And he had to so aggressively lie. It's one thing to be Kaitlan Collins and pretend you can't figure things out. It's another to just blatantly lie and say, Meg is desperately trying to say it's not them. You know, I mean, that's just aggressively. viciously dishonest, and people were just like, why can't you have a shred of decency at this moment? That's what caused the affiliates to revolt. You're right, because he's the same guy. He's always been. He's never been, I mean, first off, the reason why his ratings tank is because he's not funny. He's just, it's just invective. It's just zingers. He just thinks in, you know, and his people seem to think those zingers are fine, but they're just fewer and fewer and fewer of them every night to watch his program. But yeah, there's nothing new about him. It was, you know, the affiliates saying, we don't want this stuff any longer. Yeah, but the, you know, I guess, I guess to your point is, The advertisers don't seem to be bothered. But yet, advertiser boycotts is the, it is the currency of the left. In fact, with, you know, with, you know, with a nod to Van Jay Jones making Anderson Cooper very uncomfortable by describing a communication he had with Charlie Kirk not long ago. Van Jay Jones was out there saying, sick the advert, you know, sick the people on the advertisers. Go harass their advertisers. Color of Change. They went after Glenn Beck. They went after Rush Limbaugh. They went after local talk radio, including mine. So that's there. And it works when it's conservative content. How come it doesn't work on liberal content? Yes, because this is the whole problem that we've been facing the entire history of the Media Research Center is they describe themselves as the mainstream.
And the business elites seem to still recognize them as the mainstream, when they're quite obviously not the mainstream. And they don't represent the majority of Americans. They represent a very small fraction of Americans. Look, our television viewing now is remarkably fragmented. And, you know, we've had this discussion. People under 35 aren't watching these shows or they catch chunks of it on YouTube. They're not watching broadcast television. They're not listening to broadcast radio. So, yeah, the audiences keep shrinking, one, because, yes, the entertainer's obnoxious. Jimmy Kimmel actually said, if you're a Republican, I don't want you watching the show. He's basically begging people not to watch. But you also have this whole thing where when you look at overwhelmingly how people watch television today, broadcast and cable combined are less than half. The other half is streaming. So, you know, you might stream Jimmy Kimmel, I guess, but people are streaming all kinds of things. Nobody's streaming Jimmy Kimmel. That's a, sorry. It's possible. It's theoretically possible. You're right. It's theoretically possible, Tim, that someone's streaming in. But no, it's sort of habit at this point. It's just habituation. We turn on ABC and we leave it on. And, you know, okay, all right. But, you know, when your major affiliates say. We actually, they have local ad support. That's something that we have not talked about. Local advertisers don't like to be tied into that kind of stuff. Maybe, you know, the big car companies or the big soda companies don't mind it. But when you've got, you know, Joe Schmo's, you know, carpet Emporium or whatever, and he's buying adjacencies, Joe Schmo's Carpet Emporium doesn't necessarily like that. Yeah. I was going to say, when you want to save big money at Menards or something or whatever the law. Right. So, I don't know. But again, I think this one's gone personally as a story. Just because, you know, you're not going to make Jimmy Kimmel you're Charlie Kirk. I'm sorry. He's just not going to, you know, keep looking. I don't know who, I don't think they've got one, you know, but Jasmine Crockett tried to get in there. She tried to slide in there and make herself clickworthy. I think everyone's pretty much kind of clicked past all this stuff. But, you know, you just have to, I guess. circumvent, right? They're not going to change just because a couple of affiliates said, we don't want to carry the content anymore. They're just not going to change. Well, I think, you know, look, it's part of what we do is to identify for people. Check out this clip. You know, this whole Kimmel controversy started with our Alex Chris Christie who watches all the late night shows and has little spreadsheets of all the jokes.
And he's, you know, he's not, I would not say Alex as a humor, aficionado, but he has taken up this work. I mean, you've got to watch it and expose it. And, yeah, make them a little radioactive because that's what they're trying to do to us. They're trying to say that the Republicans are all crazy fascists. Well, back at you, Jimmy. Alex Chris Christie, doing the job other reporters won't do. I love it. Tim Graham, you know, I also think you do the work of God, my friend. Thank you for coming on the program today. You betcha. From Media Research Center and NewsBusters, we will be right back. And we are back. By the way, one thing I want to say that is not related to anything, but Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is going to be, according to President Trump, over the weekend, making an announcement on research related to autism. That's supposed to happen today. I haven't seen it yet. But I just, just from the Maha world, HHS already has ordered drug companies to start being more honest in their advertisements, and I finally got a chance to see one. last night that is detailing. It makes it, the ad makes it sound like everything's awesome. And if you just take this pill, you're going to be awesome. And then for about 45 seconds at the end of that may cause death. Brain seizures. You know, and it lists this serious side effects can include death. So you ordinarily see very minimal side effect information just in the last five to seven seconds of an ad. But this was a good 30 to 45 seconds. And you're kind of like, okay, never mind. So that's already starting to pay dividends. It just. Very rapidly have we begun to see changes simply because of some real simple decisions made by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.. All right, David Johnson's strategic vision standing by on the Middleton Ford Hotline, family owned in your good neighbor of Ford dealership for nearly 75 years. Hiya, David. How are you? I'm doing great. How are you? Well, I'm doing all right. I'm doing all right. So let me just put the lay of the land. We're going to do just politics. Lay of the land here. Democrats cheering on political assassination trying to, you know, I mean, I've never seen a group of people dance so ridiculously to try to hide what the reality is of the Kirk assassination. have no idea what his motivation was or it was MAGA or whatever. Okay. So you've got that and it's unseemly. You've got other got people cheering it on or excusing it or trying to pretend like we have no idea. It's unseemly. And the same time that's going on, you've got people like Yohan Omar and Jasmine Crockett out there being as trollingly offensive as possible.
And then you've got Chuck Schumer already threatening a government shutdown and telegraphing his decision to blame the Republicans for politics. David, from your perch as an expert in these things, is this going to work? No, it's not. And we're seeing that voters realize Democrats still do not get the message. They're still doubling down on all the reasons that they lost in 2024. And it's playing into the Republicans' hands. Most Americans, even we're seen among independents. Even if they don't know a lot about Charlie Kirk, even if they didn't agree with everything that he said, feel that it was a leftist who killed him and that the Democratic response was totally inappropriate. And they're not getting it. Republicans should just pray for Jasmine Crockett, Ilhan Omar, and the others just to continue to do all the TV shows because it helps Republicans. Yes. This is one of those things where, you know, let them, let them at it. Keep, keep chirping because it's not helping you. And, but here's the, here's, I also don't think they should not push back, but highlight this stuff. Because otherwise, you know, you don't penetrate into the information sphere. But it looks like it has, indeed. I think most people realize it was somebody motivated by left wing hate that murdered Charlie Kirk. Most people find cheering the death of someone disgusting. Most people, okay, most people are, we all know the broken record of shutdown politics, right? So this is it. You know, in terms of 2026, does it have a specific impact in 2026? I think it does. Because remember, Democrats were going crazy back in 2023 when people were worrying that Trump might be in trouble. Republicans might be in trouble because we hadn't performed as well in 2022 as we wanted to. The same thing is happening. The Democrats are going so far woke, so horrendous in their actions to someone dying, that it's turning off voters. And the Democratic base is still not ginned up like they want everyone to believe it is. So I think all this helps the Republicans. Okay. So the radical, you're in a major backlash billed against the progressives. Are you talking about the Dem's radical base? It's sort of the basic Dem base, just sort of your average. The basic Democratic base is not ginned up. Yes, your far left bases, but they're not the majority of voters. And we're seeing that independents are still swinging away from Democrats. How then do you explain Zohran Mamdani? Definitely. I mean, he ran against, I mean, a very inept and weak field. I mean, he was running against the guy who killed your grandparents. So, I mean, it was easy to frame that. Eric Adams is a weak potential.
Curtis Willa, great guy, but he just doesn't have the money and he doesn't hear the message. And a lot of people in New York question some things about him as well. So right now, you've got a socialist who's going to win as Manhattan and New York City becomes more captured by the far left. I mean, we're seeing the same thing electing him that we still elected Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. What I think is interesting about this and why, you know, again, the Democrats, they're so schizophrenic on what, how there's, you know, they're trying to figure out how to respond to this. It seems like the wealthy people really like this guy in New York. And it's the, it's people of means who are out there saying, you know, shut down, you know, ISIS fascist or whatever. It doesn't, you look at the No Kings protest, and it seems like a bunch of people who probably own their own house, probably are comfortable in retirement, many of whom probably have, you know, protected pensions. And, you know, it, I don't know. That doesn't seem like you're going to be able to use that to roll over Wisconsin, for instance. You're not going to. I mean, here in Georgia, and I know in other places, too, we saw with the No Kings protest. that the protesters were shipped in from other areas. They weren't even local to the areas. And that's what we're seeing with a lot of the Democratic protests. When they show up, they're not local to the area where they're protesting then. So I'm thinking of Madison now, and you could probably get a good deal of, you know, leftist boomers who are sitting on wildly inflated, you know, home values right now to show up for a no King's protest. But tell me about the, they're smug. This is what I noticed, David, is that there's a smugness, Jasmine, whether, whoever it is. There's this smugness, like, which doesn't telegraph fire. It doesn't telegraph enthusiasm. It, it, it's marmy, it's smug, it's, it's weak. It's like, it's like, you know, sitting there and thinking you got, it's, it. How do I want to say this? It seems like they're in line for a big dose of hubris. Well, they are. I mean, they're more concerned with how many followers they have on social media, how many media appearances. And then the other thing they're looking for as well is how do they parlay this into money? They're not looking to advance the real agenda or to capture power. It's all in for themselves. And that's what we're seeing. There's no cohesive message with the Democrat. So Elon Musk Omar going out there and being vile and Jasmine Crockett being vile. That's just for donations. That's what you're saying. It's for donations. It's for their own ego. to continue to build up their brand, their personality, which can never win nationwide. And probably can even win statewide in their states. So that seems like that's for monetizing YouTube. It doesn't seem like something you would do is a politician. So they're basically monetizing their campaigns by trying to do this. So where does that leave Chuck Schumer?
Who's out there saying, you know, we're going down the road of shut down politics again. Everybody hates this. They've done it so many times. And yet he thinks somehow calling Trump a fascist and shutting down the government will be blamed on the Republicans. I think, well, the media is going to try to blame it on the Republicans. We know that, but it's going to further weaken Chuck Schumer. Look, he comes across as the old politician. We hear a lot of Democrats think he needs to step aside, not run again in 2028. And this just reinforces the image that he's out of line with the Democratic Party. And I expect that he'll either retire or be challenged by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in 28. Okay, so, but, you know, he's saying the things that she would say. He's saying the things that... He is. When it comes from him, he comes across as an old, tired, been around the track politician. He doesn't elicit any enthusiasm from the Democratic base. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez can say the same stuff. Bernie Sanders can say the same stuff. And it motivates that progressive base. Chuck Schumer does not. Chuck Schumer just comes across as a tired old politician who's been around forever. What do you think of like John Fetterman coming forward and trying to, you know, he wants to negotiate some kind of meeting with Donald Trump and Hakeem Jeffries on this continuing resolution. He's trying to, it's almost, you know, in the last, say, eight months that he's been trying to be sort of be a peacemaker. Is there any sense that there's any enthusiasm for that sensibility? No, and I mean, a lot of Democrats actually want to kick him out of the Democratic Caucus. John Fetterman is coming across now as the Pennsylvania version of Joe Manchin. And the thing is, he's not going anywhere. He's out of step with the party, and he carries no weight with the Democratic Party. Yeah, that's what that's unfortunate. Because if John Fetterman were an opportunity. that the Democrats could seize, and he is, by the way, then, you know, maybe we could go back to something that looked more than a rock fight, looked like it was going to be more than a rock fight, maybe actually doing real budgets or debating single, standalone bills and things like that, and not just looking for ways to rig the rules to try to, you know, constance a permanent this or that. But you're saying you're just not seeing that. No, we're not seeing anywhere for a John Fetterman. He is actually below water in Pennsylvania with the Democratic base. And there's already talks of challenges to him. How about some of these opportunities that you see in states like my state, where we have got, and I think this is a gift if we don't squander it. Tony Evers is not going to run again. I think he would have won had he run. And we don't know what the GOP lineup is going to be. We've got some guy, you know, who's previously a never-Trumper and wanted rank choice voting who's into really weird stuff on the internet. And we've got a guy who's pretty earnest, but he's just,
Washington County executives, not really lighten it up, unfortunately. Democrats have wildly, wildly left-wing candidates. Opportunity, can we pull this off in Wisconsin? Who could pull it off in Wisconsin? Oh, I definitely think you can pull it off. I mean, Ron Johnson has shown how to win in Wisconsin with everything going against you, and he's shown it. What you need is a candidate who's going to energize that Republican base and take the fight to the Democrats. And we're not seeing that right now. Not yet. Not yet. And they're giving us gift after gift after gift. I mean, Francesca Hall. And Republicans have a strong field of potential candidates. Right. Getting them to jump in. So far, we just haven't gotten any commitments. We've got a commitment from a guy again who was, you know, his claim to fame is that he was on the board of a left wing, ranked choice voting lobbying organization and a business guy in Milwaukee. And then this earnest, you know, just unfortunately just can't get the money right now. He's doing okay, but he doesn't really seem to be lightened up. Tom Tiffany, we keep hearing Tom Tiffany, Congressman Tiffany. We keep hearing Eric Hovedy potentially. Are you hearing any names out there? You're plugged into the consultant world better than I am. Well, I mean, one that I've heard numerous times, too, even though he's indicating he's not going to, is Derrick Van Orden. His name's been mentioned as well. Yeah, he's got a lot of attention. Derrick Van Orden right now is one of the targets for the left to take out and redistricting because we have a left-wing. It would make sense if they are successful in that for him to switch races. Indeed. So we'll have to wait and see. So we are going to have to wait and see. You've got a lot of people trying to climb all over each other on the left right now. And so far, we're not seeing that sense. on the right. So we're not seeing, okay, well, we've got two candidates. How many more are we going to have? One more, two more, maybe three more. Boy, I tell you who could win the Wisconsin governorship, David. It's a fantasy, though. I almost don't want to say it. Sean Duffy. Oh, I agree. Definitely. I just don't see him coming back. I don't either. I don't either. It's just, he's my, you know, if you have a fantasy team, you could draft, I'd want to draft Sean Duffy. Thank you very much, David, for coming on the show today. Great to be on. Good to have you from Strategic Vision, which is a polling and consulting operation. David Johnson, friend of show. We'll be right back.
So this is something we're going to get to in the 2 o'clock hour. Well, Ron Johnson's going to join me in the 2 o'clock hour. We'll talk about Chuck Schumer's threat, also about the announcement coming from Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. today. I'm also Scott Walker is going to join me in the 2 o'clock hour as well. But something else, I hope we have some time to get into, and that is. Not that this is new data or anything, but it's out today. And that is that in 1971, the average home cost four times what the average worker earned in 1971. The average home was four times the salary of the average worker. Now? It's eight times the salary of the average worker. So I want to talk about this because there's a reason why this happened and you can unrig this. Hopefully we'll have some time to get to Senator Johnson on this question. Everybody have a great lunch. See you back here at 2 o'clock on the Vicki McKenna Show. Welcome to the Vicki McKenna show. Lots to get to on the program today. We've got Senator Ron Johnson. Hopefully he's going to give us a preview of President Trump's announcement about autism, which I believe is coming up right around 3 o'clock this afternoon central time. He promised that yesterday at the Charlie Kirk Memorial. With Senator Johnson, we're also going to get into the annoying shutdown theater as Chuck Schumer has threatened yet another round of blame Republicans. for a government shutdown unless they get everything they want in their continuing resolution. But we'll also discuss the impact of the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Next steps for youth organizing with Turning Point in other groups. I've got former governor Scott Walker, who's now with the Young America's Foundation, to join me on the program this afternoon as well. But first, we have a big announcement. My show is hosting another trip of a lifetime where to this time. We are going to Ireland. Welcome to the program, Doug Johnson, Cruzen Tour. And if I've got Doug Johnson from Cruising Tour coming on the program, that means we got a big trip planned, Doug. It's Ireland this time. It's a fantasy trip for so many people. Ireland, tell me what we're going to do and when it's going to happen and how awesome this is. Absolutely. This is one of my favorite places anywhere. And I've been in this business a long time. I've been lucky enough to travel to a lot of amazing places. But this is what I've been to at least five or six times. And it is among my tops around the world. So so glad you're going and I'm going to take a bunch of the listeners with you. So next June, which is actually one of my favorite times to go. I was there a few years ago in June. We have absolutely beautiful weather. sunshine and you know you're out of that uh that dreary winter spring kind of time that that can happen in ireland and uh this is a beautiful time so it's a 10 day trip and really does a beautiful circle tour of the country and we'll get to see a lot of the uh
the great spots along our way. So we'll talk about it now as much you should like. All right. So it's going to be June 4th to the 13th. And you go to cruise dash tour.com. Cruise dash tour.com. You can see the it itinerary there. You can see all the cool places we're going to go. We'll tell you about it in just a sec. But that's how you get, that's how you can click request brochure, book now. You can also just call if you're not an online person, 800 383. 31 31. So we're covering. A lot of territory, but at the same time, having been on a couple of cruise and tours, a lot of territory can get covered in a pretty short amount of time in terms of just travel. And then you get tons of time at your destination. So we're going to Dublin. We're going to Kilkenny, Waterford. We're going to Killarney. We're going to Cliffs of Moor and Limerick and all of the Kingscourt, all of the places you would ordinarily pick if you were trying to plan this trip yourself. But Cruising Tour does it for you. Correct. And what's nice here, Vicki, you just touched on it is, you know, we're going to have time to enjoy all these areas, so we're not just flying through and doing all this in five or six days. We're going to be two nights right in downtown Dublin, a night in Waterford, two nights right in downtown Killarney, such a beautiful small city town and walkable to do so many things. A couple of nights in Limerick, and then... Our last night, which I don't know, I probably shouldn't talk about the grand finale already here, but the last night is spent in a castle property just outside of Dublin. So that it's magnificent. We get to sleep in a castle? Medieval cast. Yes, absolutely. We're sleeping in a castle. There's a lot of history. There's a lot of history and stories there. It's a really, really cool. So you know, it doesn't mean that we're like having to go fetch, you know, fresh water for ourselves or anything like that. But how cool. We're actually going to end the trip in a castle. But two nights, two nights, two nights, when you get that two nights, that's so nice, because, you know, you've got to pack for an international trip. And in having the two nights, you can kind of just chill. You can kind of just get comfortable in the place you are before you got to. pack all your stuff and go, right? And that is, that's so nice to have those kind of, you know, little mini extension. extended trips like that. So again, this is the travel. So we're going to, so we're going to crisscross the country, the guides that Cruise and Tour has. We've now done Italy and Poland with Cruise and Tour on the Vicki McKenna show. Your guides are the best guides. I don't know how you find them, but I have no doubt that given the fantastic guide we had in Italy and the fantastic guide we had in Poland, that we're going to have the top of the line, best and most professional friendliest, most fun guides.
anywhere in the country? Absolutely. It's taken us a while. We've been at this for 50 years, so we think, you know, we found some of the best guides out there for sure. And that does make a big, big difference. And Ireland will be no different for sure. And, you know, in addition to the guide, obviously, who's with you the whole time, our tour director, the people in Ireland are so friendly. And, you know, you'll see that everywhere at the hotels, at the restaurants, any of the little corner pubs. very friendly, very welcoming to Americans. It's just a great experience to go there. And I think another thing most people in America don't realize is the food over there is really good. I know when I first went 30 years ago, you know, people would be like, oh, good luck, Doug, the food there. You know, you eat potatoes and bland food. It is not like that at all anymore. They have chefs that have come in from all over Europe, you know, running some of these restaurants. They serve all kinds of cuisine and it is spectacular. And you can get great meals right in the pubs. I think people misunderstand that. It's not like you're just eating the stuff that we think of when we see movies from the turn of the century about Ireland. And that is true about any trip you would go on. You can have your pick. You want some of that traditional fair. That's cool. But these are some of the best restaurants that you're going to be able to see in the country. So we are hitting all of the best restaurants. in Ireland, in the various destinations that we are, but we're going to distilleries. We're going to artisan breweries. I mentioned Waterford, for those of you who want to go and if you've got to see it because it's Waterford, for heaven's sakes, the famous crystal from Waterford, you can tour Waterford, the actual facility, if you would like to. And so there's a lot of, also, you know, choice for you time. So there's tours, but then there's a lot of choice where what do you want to do? You can choose from this or choose from that. And that's, that flexibility is really nice. That's built into these trips. And Ireland has got a lot of that built in. Of course, we're going to kiss the Blarney Stone, right? You got to tell me we're going to kiss the Blarney Stone. Absolutely. I'm kissing that Blarney Stone. You can hike up those. As long as you can kiss, as long as you can hike up those narrow stairs, you get the kiss to blowouty still for sure. All right. So, yes. By the way, that's something else. You mentioned hiking up the stairs. So if that's not your thing, it is, we, I've noticed this of the last two trips. It is whatever. If you are, go, go, go, go, go, this trips for you. If you need a slower pace. The trip's for you. The accommodations for people, if you happen to have a mobility problem or something like that, yes, you can do this trip. Yes, you are not going to be left behind or anything like that. I know we had a lady who just got her knee replaced. She's running all over Poland, you know, like she wants to be in the speedwalking marathon. But there were some other people who needed a little bit of assistance, and we had no problem with both levels of activities. So please don't think that you can't do it. Right. There's things to do if, you know, when we stop at a place like that, there's things to do for people that don't want to hike up there as well. And, you know, similar when we get to, you know, the cliffs of more. And, you know, you can decide how far you want to walk in that area. There's plenty to see if you're at the visitor center. It's beautiful if you want to walk out.
right, you know, up to the edge of the clips of more and look out. You certainly can do that, too. So it does a lot of flexibility. Everybody got to come. Yeah, you all have to come. It's Ireland. You know you want to go. You wanted to go your whole life. This is your chance. June 4th through the 13th. Next year, cruise dash tour.com. That's cruise dash tour.com. Or you can call 800383131. Doug Johnson, I cannot wait. Thank you for jumping on the show today. Thank you, Vicki. Good times. We'll take a break on the Vicki McKenna Show. Welcome back to the program. It's the Vicki McKenna Show. This is, I mean, we could do this regarding just the Charlie Kirk topic, but I'm going to make a statement here. reality itself is now funneled through mostly left-wing politics. Reality itself, and you could use the Charlie Kirk assassination or the reaction to the unbelievable grace his wife showed at his memorial service by forgiving his killer. We can do this all day long with this issue, but it's everything. I have Senator Ron Johnson standing by, and I mean, feel free to comment if you'd like on the memorial service, but I'm more thinking as I'm sort of thinking through this statement I just made. that it's everything, whether it's Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s announcement that's coming up in about an hour on what the actual causes of autism are. You would think people would be happy, but they're not. They're already calling him a liar. Or Chuck Schumer saying that if the Republicans, you know, if the Democrats shut down the government, it's the Republicans hate poor people. I mean, it's insanity because reality is it is whatever they want to make of it as long as it helps them. But I think just starting out with the memorial, if you only saw clips, if you didn't watch any entire speeches, it's worth listening to Erika Kirk's entire speech. It was graceful. I think the most powerful thing, she quoted Christ on the cross. They know not what they do. You know, forgive them. And so she forgave the killer, which means we all have to give the killer. Beyond that powerful statement, it literally is we respond to hate, not with hate. We respond to hate with love. And that's the distinction between the reaction to George Floyd, his death, and Charlie Kirk's assassination, George Floyd, we saw peaceful protests erupted into riots. Charlie Kirk, we saw prayer vigils. And that speaks volume. So I just hope everybody on the right listens to Erika Kirk follows her advice to respond to hate with love, additional hate, and just incredibly powerful. And it just shows the dramatic difference between the left and the right. The violence in this country is primarily incited and carried out by. members of the left. That's just the truth. And you have to face up that reality. And, of course, moving into your other topic, because our legacy corporate media is controlled by a bunch of radical leftists themselves, they bend over backwards to cover up that truth. They do everything they can destroy the truth.
And that's where we're at. And it's very difficult to break through. We are up against powerful forces. We're up against the most powerful forces, I think. Because reality, as I said, reality itself is funneled through politics. So, I mean, you mentioned George Floyd. The George Floyd riots were stoked based on lies. So when you, but that's not what they think. They think, oh, we're the righteous ones. Again, manipulation of reality. itself requires a political calculation. So let's get to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. before. I know we haven't heard the announcement yet on the causes of autism. One would think this would be a cause for celebration. We're going to find out what causes this incredibly distressing condition for both the person suffering and the parents. That's not what's going on. The media is pre-chewing this story and saying that he's an anti-vaxxer, he's a liar. So that's already happening. We haven't even heard the announcement yet. Chuck Schumer wants to shut down the government's already pre-chewing. It's all the Republicans' fault because they hate poor people. They hate black people. Whatever it is. I mean, I'm to the point where I... I don't know if we can reconcile people who have two totally different visions of reality, one group, hopefully, mostly based on the truth, the other based on its political calculations. Well, one thing we ought to be able to rely on and we can't because it's been corrupted is scientific research. First thing to understand about scientific research, it's not black and white. It points in a direction. It indicates the need for further study, for further skepticism, for more questioning. So, yeah, I've read the reports of what they've been talking about some time between Tylenol and the lack of a particular vitamin. I don't know. I don't think, again, I don't know what's going to be announced. Whatever is announced, again, even that I would take with a grain of salt and go, okay, they have some indications here. So let's do some further study. The hearing I held, where we talked about the Henry Ford study. I didn't say the Henry Ford study was the be all end all, even though it was hidden for about five years. It should have been released, for peer review, for people to take pot shots at it, take a look at and go, okay, well, there's a problem here, there's a problem there. It showed the result was. 2.5 times the rate of chronic illness in vaccinated children versus those that had no vaccinations. Again, is that definitive? Probably not. In that, say, they showed no tie with autism. There were explanations or why that may be the case. But again, none of this stuff is the most unscientific term is the consensus to science. No, science is skepticism. Science is poking a hole in what the prevailing thought is, what prevailing consensus is, understanding that it's amazing what we know, and the speed with which we're gaining new knowledge, but with all that we know, I would still argue that what we don't know vastly. And I mean vastly, it feeds what we do. I mean, you start getting into physics and quarks. I mean...
I know Einstein put forth the theory of relativity. I don't understand it. I doubt very few people other than Stephen Hawking's too. Well, and science is not the end-l-b-all because it should always just be an inspiration to seek more knowledge. You're right, but we're already saying whether it's climate change or autism or COVID or whatever. It's settled science. Climate change is the worst. Settled science. But again, if you say anything that says, hey, I happen to have this thing over here that says that is calling into question the settled science, you're a liar. Why? Because again, you have got the truth and reality that is now being forced through a political lens. And I say political ends that includes the lobbyists who want politicians to protect them from ever having to confront anything that interrupts. They're profit models. And let's go, before I run out of time, I don't want to run out of time on this one. Look, I mean, the Democratic Party, period. This is their, this is their, the way they're operating principle is if it is gets in the way of political power, the pursuit of political power. they are going to say the exact opposite. So whether that's the Charlie Kirk assassination, whether that's the election of Donald Trump, whether that's COVID, I mean, they've on all sides of the issue on COVID, whether that's shutdown politics, whether that's the debt or welfare spending. I don't care. Whatever you, if whatever they say helps you Ron Johnson or helps President Trump or helps whatever. and doesn't explicitly motivate them toward expanding their power, they're going to say the opposite. Am I wrong? No, I mean, the left is going to destroy science so that they can take control more control over your life. It's not that many centuries ago that settled science had the world as being flat. A little bit more of the century ago that the medical profession destroyed a doctor named Dr. Stemmelweis, who just happened to observe, you know, these doctors are coming up from examining patients in the morgue and then, you know, delivering a baby had a very high rate of infant mortality. Maybe you ought to wash your hands. I mean, they destroyed this guy for making that suggestion. Okay, so no, again, settled science is probably the most unscientific term. There's no such thing as settled skepticism. Science is skepticism. We're always looking to expand our knowledge. We need to be more humble and modest about what we know versus what we don't know. Before I run out of time, on the issue of shutdown, let's just talk about the shutdown real quick. I've got about two minutes. I mean, I don't want to miss this opportunity. They're going to say reality is Republicans are going to force the Democrats to shut down government so it's all your fault. I mean, you have a piece of legislation you've offered up multiple times. Let's stop the shutdowns. How's that working out with your colleagues on the left? Well, again, they want to force the shutdown Democrats do because they know the press will blame us.
But, you know, the House has passed a continuing resolution until the week before Thanksgiving. They've left town. They're not going to be in session next week when, you know, funding runs out. So Democrats have to choose. You either pass what the House passed, which is a pretty clean, continuing resolution, keep government open, or, you know, I've suggested the Eliminate Shutdown Act. That'd be better. You know, the House bill only picks us until, you know, right before Thanksgiving, it's have the same shutdown threat. You pass my bill, and it just creates automatic two-week rolling continuing resolutions at last year's levels. And you'll never have to worry about a shutdown again, ever. You can put that behind us, put all the drama, all the turmoil, now start focusing on, okay, let's, we agree on funding the vet. Let's do that. Okay, let's move on to something else. And again, you take away all these artificial deadlines that creates so much, as I say, drama and turmoil. That's what we should do. We should just pass the elimination shutdown and be done with this. And now we start getting responsible. I've also, you know, two-year appropriation cycles. Past six one year, do oversight on the other six. Or do four or three years. You know, we've got to break this cycle of chaos. Oh. Yes. See, but the cycle of chaos doesn't benefit America. It doesn't benefit you. It doesn't benefit me. It doesn't benefit the Republicans. It does, however, benefit the Democrats. At least it does right now. Until the cycle of chaos can be shown to hurt the Democrats, we are going to be stuck in the cycle of chaos. And this theater is just going to go on endlessly. I do appreciate the time. Thank you so much for jumping on the show today. Every day. You as well. And we will take a break on the Vicki McKenna show. Senator Ron Johnson. I'll be right back. Coming up, Governor Scott Walker is going to join me as well on the Vicki McKenna Show. Welcome back to the program. It's the Vicki McKenna Show. Governor Scott Walker is standing by. He is with the Young America's Foundation. And I bring him on because you've been trying to crack the code on young people, on how to get young people to love freedom and love America. Charlie Kirk, obviously, in many ways, real ways, did crack the code. But I'm just going to share a comment. And this is a comment that I'm seeing in a group of people who are young on campus or in high school. And I don't know how representative this is, but here it is. I never let myself listen to conservatives when I was a Democrat. I only based my opinions on what I was told to think. We were lied to. I didn't realize that. I remember being so surprised that the vast majority of conservatives are very nice, even when I voted for Democrats for so long, no longer. Now that's pretty common, common sensibility is people who have sort of been mugged by reality or the truth or love or freedom or whatever it is, Scott. I was lied to. How do we get through to people who are being lied to so often at such loud volumes?
Yeah, no, great, great point. We've got to go to them as many ways as we can write to the source. So it means on campus, in person, and online on things like YouTube and other platforms out there. Charlie Kirk was so good at that for years where you've been supporting. Through my group, you mentioned Young America's Foundation, Ben Shapiro, and Matt Walsh and Michael Knows and Katie Pavlach and people like that. Those are all people who use very similar techniques of not only being on campus and talking, but taking questions, letting people disagree go to the front of line, engaging. And really, most students we found in our polling of young people across the country are neither conservative nor liberal. Most of them just are trying to figure things out like a lot of swing voters in Wisconsin. And so to the extent that we can get to them. And obviously, tragically, not the way any of us would have intended, but one of the few bright spots of this horrific tragedy of Charlie's assassination is that now you've got millions of people listening to what he's talking about, interested in getting involved. We got to make sure that this isn't just a moment, time. But this really is the time in which we see a trend point of change for far into the future. Yeah, I think if you try to control it too much. You're going to get in the way of it because right now what is going on is sort of a natural revival. That's what it feels like. I saw a young man post a TikTok video and he said, you know, I everybody I know has been cheering this on, cheering the assassination of this man on. So I went and I looked at what he actually said. He was quite surprised. He posted a few different videos. The young man who asked the question at the event where Charlie was murdered. posted a video and he was you know he was going to say hey we're the peaceful ones he changed his mind right so this is um i'm worried that if you like what happened to the tea party movement and you remember when you try to take something organic and you try to put it into you know a consultant's box You're not going to do what's needed. And what's needed is to free people's minds in this country and help them see truth over lies. Yeah, and that's it. Well, that's really the key. Again, it's not just turning point or Young America's foundations, but others who could do this. I think the more opportunities, for example, we saw growth the last few years is when I first got involved a few years ago, there were a couple hundred thousand people watching our YouTube channel. There's now about 2 million. Turning Point has even more than that. Those are unlike some groups, and they're great groups out there that do videos that are produced, that are programmed. In each of these cases, where we saw the growth was in just broadcasting these organic exchanges, these real exchanges where people ask questions, where there was intensity and discussion, but where there was a real debate. And I think that's a reflection that so many people are hungry for truth.
like a couple of these folks you've referenced, and we've heard other stories like this as well, where they feel like they're only told one side of the story, and they're now hearing more, and they're realizing, wow, I really was like to. Who was keeping this from me? And you're right, you can't just, you can't produce a video, you can't make it happen. For young people, there's two things that are paramount across the spectrum, and that is authenticity and fairness. So we need to continue to have authentic exchanges and talk about it, though, in terms that relate to fairness, not only for young people, but, Vicki, you know, that was one of the turning points for us in Wisconsin when we started talking about the things we were doing in terms of fairness. It's not fair to let a new school teacher go first and foremost win their layoffs. When she's one of the best in the state, people said that's not fair. Those are the sorts of things we need to gauge in and be careful. totally careful not to let D.C. consultants be the ones who drive this movement. You're exactly right. You know, the great thing about Young America's Foundation, by the way, I saw Matt Walsh at University of Wisconsin. He did exactly what you described. And he was kind. I mean, people think he's bombastic on his show. But he was quite... He was kind. He was interested. He listened. He engaged in debate. He didn't just batter and berate anybody. And he had some pretty tough questioners come up, you know, at these events. And so when people see that, they don't walk away saying, what a hateer. No, he never did. Yeah, but didn't shy away from the truth. That's usually what the liberals complain about is with Charlie, with Matt, with them, with others, is they'll claim that somebody who just doesn't back away from the truth. is somehow nasty. No, exactly what you said. Respectful. They listen. They try to actually hear what the people are saying who have an opposing viewpoint. But then... speak truth, tell them what they believe the truth is, what we know the truth is. And most of the people there, again, are neither conservative or liberal, most come away going, wow, that was not what I expected. That's not what they told me it would be. And that's really reflective, both in person and equally so when we broadcast it. Those are the sorts of exchanges. And that's why I'm so thrilled to see, you know, this. This tour is not only continuing, Charlie was on, but just dramatically increasing. We announced the same thing today that we're doing a safe but strong campaign, which means we're going to make sure our events are safer than ever before so that no one's ever afraid to come on campus to hear from a conservative speaker. But we're going to be not just strong as we were prior. We're going to put up... more speakers on campus like Turning Point. I hope college Republicans and others do the same thing. Let's put more voices out there because as you alluded to, there's this organic hunger, there's an organic interest. We need to fill that void that appears on too many campuses.
Something you said was that young people aren't necessarily right or left. They don't quite know what they are. By the way, you could see this if you ever watch Matt Walsh or Charlie Kirk and the questioners will come up. They don't quite know what they actually think. They know what they've been told to think. And kudos to them for being, you know, gutsy enough or maybe, you know, just naive enough to get up there and be exposed for not really knowing, but they don't leave dumb. They don't leave, you know, uneducated. They leave different. They leave. They leave. They don't leave angry. They leave better. So why lie? You know, I think that's what they're starting to ask themselves maybe young people. Why are people lying to me? I mean, you don't have to agree with conservative politics to recognize that you've been lied to. And I think that's what I'm noticing. It's, it's definitely a first step. And it's something we should always endeavor to do. By the way, your commentary on fairness, if the Republicans don't figure out fairness, we're going to get more Zohran Mamdani mom donies. You couldn't be more right. I mean, think about it. Again, what turned the tide for us was when we started saying, hey, it's not fair that a city bus driver in Madison makes more than the mayor because of crazy overtime rules from contracts that unions, bosses negotiate. It's not fear that correctional officers can call in sick and then come in and work time at half the next time. It's not fair that an 80-some-year-old volunteer in Wausau. was told he couldn't be a crossing guard anymore for the schools because he wasn't a part of the teachers union. Those were the things that turned the tide. I think the same thing's going to happen with young people. We just got to get back to fairness. When we talk about men and women sports, we say, it's not fair. You wouldn't let a 19-year-old woman swim against a bunch of 90-year-old girls. Why would we let someone more to man swim against women? Students get that. That's almost two to one. It's not just the general public. It's among college students, almost two to one, say that's not fair. So we've got to get smarter and not just get charts out there, but talk about fairness. It's not fair that people who are able to work aren't in the workforce. It's not fair that someone didn't go to college has to pay someone's bills off that went on for four or five degrees and it now doesn't want to pay off their student loan debt. Those are the things that we could win on. if we fundamentally get back to fairness i think so gosh as you were talking of i'm reminded of my friend duke pesta who does a survey every single year for his gen ed students and he'll ask them all what do you support capitalism or socialism and always pick socialism he'll say it's 80 90 percent and he'll ask why and the word that they say is because it's more fair It's more fair. So we have allowed our free market system to be hijacked in service of special interests and things that aren't actually fair. So along come socialism, we're going to be where the people about fairness, not realizing that it's orders of magnitude less fair than the current system, albeit broken, but not completely busted. Right? So the young folks, that's what they think. They think socialism means fair.
And capitalism means, you know, harm. And so, you know, half the battle is just understanding that as conservatives, we have a very acute sense of fairness because we're a lot of us are anchoring it in a biblical belief system. Right, well, that's even with the school kids, it's why that example that somebody's used and saying, you know, if you study hard, you work hard, you show up the class, you do your work in a college class, and you get an A on your exam, the guys who barely show up and don't pay attention and get a D, you shouldn't get a part of your A to them taking to move their D up to a C or B and you go from an A to a C. People get that part's not fair, so we just have to explain it. in those terms. Someone who works hard, placed by the rules, should be able to get ahead and not have the government take their money and redistribute it. Someone who doesn't. If somebody who works hard, placed by the rules ought to be able to afford the American dream, ought to be able to access the American dream. It should be that way. That's the right thing and the good thing and the fair thing. Scott Walker, Young America's Foundation, you know, I know that people are starting turning point chapters all over the place. Is there a way that someone can start their own YIF chapter? Yaf.org, and the good news is we have kids doing also the time. They do Turning Point, College Republicans, Young America's Foundation. They can do all those, yaf.org. We'd love to have them come out and join us for events or join a chapter on campus or just hear a great speaker. Thanks for coming on the show, as always, Governor Walker. Thank you. All right, and we'll be back. All right, just about 45 seconds left. So on tomorrow's program, how did we end up getting? to a place in the United States where violent revolutionary zeal seems to rule the day. Political assassinations excused.
