You're listening to KFI, AM 640, the Bill Handle show On Demand, on the I Heart Radio app. Bill Handel here, it is a Taco Tuesday, March 31, last day of March. And some of the stories we're looking at, there is a new airport in West Palm Beach. Well, it used to be West Palm Beach International Airport now. Guess what? It's three miles away, five miles away from Mar-a-Lago. Yep. Yep, yep, it's the Donald Trump International Airport. Shocker on that one. And gas prices keep going up, keep going up, although the stock market is doing weird stuff. It's up 500 points today. No one understands what's going on at all. Now, here's something everybody understands. But there's some science behind this. There's some surveys. I happen to love statistically significant surveys because this is real stuff. It's not anecdotal. And there's a new USC Berkeley study.
And it's a fact. This is a given. Although there's something interesting here. The study found that people of limited income who moved out of California dramatically increased, improved their financial conditions. Okay, that's a shocker, right? Of course we knew that. But here's something you probably didn't know. I certainly didn't. This is surprising from this study. Those people that are leaving the state are increasingly moving out of the wealthiest areas. More wealthy people are leaving the state. And the big no-no here in the state of California, the number one problem that people do move out of is because of housing costs. Wealthy people don't worry about housing costs. So there have to be other reasons. Back to death. Yeah, but it doesn't matter really because if you've got serious money, you bitch and moan about it. But you know what? You pay it and you still are fine. California is about the poor. Not about those that work. That's exactly my point. That is exactly my point. Yeah, but the rich are leaving. The rich are leaving. Now, they're here for all the benefits. Yeah. Well, it's, yeah, but the rich don't take the state benefits. They don't need SNAP programs. They don't need CalFresh. They're the ones paying for it. That's not the point. The point is, yes, they are, but they have money and it doesn't affect them. Now, the poor, to your point, are affected and it's almost as if they have to leave because they have no choice. And the number one reason is housing. And when you look at people that are moving, not only is the number one reason housing, it's true. They live a much better lifestyle. It's just different. I mean, California is a weird state. There is more loneliness here in California. Our culture is such. You go to the south, for example. Everybody knows everybody. Everybody likes everybody. Everybody. I mean, even you go to Texas where the law says you have to have a pickup truck with a... a shotgun and, you know, the window behind you. Have you ever driven through Mississippi on the, the people are on their porches waving to you? Yeah, they do. They do. I remember going, I once went to Texas, sort of in the east part of Texas, poor part of Texas. I was there visiting my brother who was working there. And I went into like a 7-Eleven store. And they have chicken. Every single 7-Eleven store or every single convenience store has chicken. They have fried chicken in one of those heat little containers. You know, like we have hot dogs at the 7-Eleven. And so I'm ordering, you know, obviously I have a California accent. I don't have a Southern accent. So I order my chicken. They know how to do chicken, I might add. And so as I'm walking out, it's thank you so much for coming.
It's been a pleasure serving you. I thought it was a screw you. I thought they were just making fun of me. And I'm about to flip them the finger and say, F off until I realized this is true. They really are that nice. And so the other thing is people are coming back to California. And the study and people don't often think of that. Why California? Well, we got the oceans. We got the mountains. We have nature. There's a lot of, we have opportunities that don't exist in other states. But at the same time, look what's happening to California, the California economy. Again, the poor people are getting nailed. There are no entry jobs. There's too many people out there that can't even retire. Now they have to work at Walmart. Well, there are only so many greeters saying, hey, welcome to Walmart. So the only thing that's really keeping California, the economy going, are the people that work at home, remote working, and that is all for the most part in the computer industry. Poor people just don't do well. So they move. Do you know one of the places that retired people move to a lot is a Baja, California. In Baja, there are communities, expat communities where you can live and not speak a word of Spanish and live very, very comfortably, where $1,000 or $1,200 a month gives you a pretty decent lifestyle. You'll have a place to stay. You'll have food. You'll have a cleaning lady that comes in once a week to clean your place. Try doing that on $1,200 a month here. It's just a whole lot cheaper. And, well... Yep. They're just trying to figure out. They're just trying to figure out why. And it's housing for the most part. They don't know why people are coming back. Those are guesses, by the way. And this research was done by the California Policy Lab. Just to give you an idea of how solid this research was, it covered people that left or arrived in California from 2016 to 2025, nine years. millions of people. And where they went, typically Nevada, Arizona, obviously close states, but also locales such as Texas and Florida. And there are some people that have left for political reasons. And we're talking about the other side of the Trump haters and the administration haters because they can't stand the liberal part of living in California. If you are very conservative in this state, you really don't try to admit it very often if you live in circles that are liberal. You've got to admit this. This state has been ruined by single party rule.
It just has. Every state has. Every state has. I mean, you look at, this state maybe particularly, but look what Texas is. Look what Florida is about. You know, and Massachusetts is still run by super liberals. It's Washington, Oregon, you know, the left coast, literally the left coast, is run by liberals. I mean, it's a matter of fact, that's our next topic. and what's going on with local GOP officials and the story that I wanted to tell you that I've been holding off. Okay, stories that are going around, and I'm going to share a story with you in a moment, a personal story. We know what happened in Fulton County, Georgia, where the... where the district attorney or the election official has taken all of the ballots in Fulton County and looking for fraud. This is a fourth go-round, by the way, in Georgia because Trump lost Georgia by a very small amount and therefore it was fraud. And here is the position of the Republicans. And it really just drives me in that some Republicans. And that is, if a Democrat wins an election, it is rigged. If a Republican wins, the Democrats tried to rig it, but were unsuccessful. In Arizona, Maricopa County. Well, the person responsible for voter registration has referred to prosecution more than 200 people suspected of being registered to vote as non-citizens. And the problem, there are so many false positives that when it turns out very, very few, which has actually happened in other jurisdictions where almost nobody, in fact, turned out to vote fraudulently, you never hear about that. That just sort of disappears. And the issue is, is there fraud? Well, yeah, when you have 150 million votes, you're going to find some fraud, but minuscule fraud. I mean almost zero fraud. The fraudulent votes that happened, particularly in Georgia, that was the big hit. The law and other places, by the way, where fraud was alleged. And when, and this is President Trump who started this whole thing calling before the election with Joe Biden, if I lose, it is rigged. And that started to stop the steel movement. And so here's what happened. And I asked this of MAGA supporters who say the election was rigged. There were over 60 judges, well over 60 cases that were filed. alleging fraud. Not one. Not one did the judges grant any kind of help to them, any kind of rehearing. I mean, nothing. And I asked Maga supporters who insist that fraud happened in the election that was rigged. How did those supporters of that position?
How do they lose in front of 60 or 63 judges? Some of them mean Trump appointees. They somehow, did they bamboozle all those judges? Federal judges, state judges, appeals court judges, were they all bamboozled? Yes. They were all bamboozled. Every one of them. Every one of them? Really? Yes. And here is the shame, and I want to point something out. This one is really terrible. We hear that the election or that democracy is being completely attacked and we're losing our democracy. And people somehow think that we won't be able to vote, that there's going to be some kind of a coup where President Trump is going to declare some kind of an emergency. will then hold off the election based on the emergency that we can't get a fair vote. That's not going to happen. You're not going to see the president grab the military and somehow proclaim his dictatorship, which some Democrats say are going to happen. You won't see that. But I'll tell you where democracy is at risk. And that is the concept, and so many people have that. that if a Republican wins an election, that's a fair vote. That's democracy. If a Democrat wins the election, almost any election, that's fraudulent. It's rigged. And that election will be attacked. Lawsuits will be filed. Recounts will happen over and over again for months. And here is what the theme is going to be, is that this is exactly what happened in the 2024 or the 2020 election when Mike Pence refused to, well, going ahead and certified the election, that is, read the results, is that there was a movement, and including President Trump, that basically said, do the right thing and do not certify, refuse to count the votes. And I will remain president. That was a straight out move by Donald Trump. And Mike Pence, to his credit, said the Constitution doesn't allow me to do that. And I'm going to follow the Constitution. And because of that, he was a horrible person. And part of that peaceful demonstration that went into the Capitol, people were screaming, hang Mike Pence, hang Mike Pence. And by the way, I completely believe that if he were brought out in front of that group, he would have been hanged. I absolutely believe that. And so that is, and it turned out that was just a complete crappola theory, John Eastman, who's actually a law professor, who has since been disbarred, came up with a theory if the vice president does not certify, does not count the votes, then the vote is, it is illegal and the new president is not to be sworn in. He made that up.
He just made that up. And Donald Trump bought into that and argued that too. And the analogy there is if an Academy Award is given. And the person who, in fact, gives it out the presenter of the award, stands up, opens the envelope and refuses to say who won Best Picture, that film did not win Beck's picture. because it was not stated by the presenter. Bull, of course it won best picture. If the vice president doesn't count the votes and certify the election and just say Georgia votes this and Alabama votes, this electoral votes, then the election is void and therefore there is no new president and President Trump stays as president. That actually was a theory that John Eastman came up with and that Donald Trump followed. See, that's the fear. See, the fear is that every election will now be contested. Maybe it is, if there's overwhelming, if it's a landslide, I don't think they will, but certainly close ones. And that is, that's the fear. Don't you feel like Trump is a politician on steroids? I get that. And he does, he does not relent. But you had Al Gore. That was the first time I ever remember the hanging Chad. Do you know how close that was? Do you know how close that was? But then you move on to Hillary. Hillary referred to Trump as an illegitimate president and questioned Georgia. No, not in the sense that he was not elected. She did not, she did not question the election. She made reference to the ID law in Georgia and how they did not question the election. How many lawsuits were filed on behalf of Hillary to contest the election? There weren't any. How many Democrats? How many Democrats demanded a recount? You know what? It's this not political. This is not political. This is not political. This is an attack, truly an attack on our vote. It's truly an attack on how we vote. And this one, it's, you know, it's America that drives me completely crazy. As a matter of fact, you know what? Let me do that Canadian story and how many people are leaving the United States and applying for Canadian citizenship. It's a big deal. It really is. By the way, I have no problem when a Republican wins. I had no problem that Donald Trump won the election at 2024. No issue. That was a valid election. Republicans voted. They legitimately won. Now, if a Democrat wins, that's rigged. That's rigged. And that's the part that kills me. Well, it doesn't kill me, but that's part that bothers me.
A lot of people are very, very unhappy with what's going on with the country right now. And personally, I'm not happy with what's going on. But I'll tell you what a lot of people are doing. And I mean a lot of people. I don't have numbers. So this is anecdotal. And that is the people that are leaving America. I have never seen people that are bailing out and living or going overseas simply because of the political climate that is happening here in the United States. The polarization is astounding. And I have shared with you this before that when I retire, when I pull the plug, I plan on with Lindsay living in Italy part of the year. Now, ah. I'm not, I don't want to move out of the United States because I know things change. There's a pendulum swing here. Lindsay and other people we know cannot stand it and are getting out of Dodge. I mean leaving the country and applying for citizenship. Now, it just so happens. My dad was born in Poland. So I am eligible to become a Polish citizen, which by the way, I'm applying for and I'll probably get it in May. which means I'm going to be an EU citizen, European Union citizen, which means I can travel all through Europe and not worry. It's more of a question of just convenience for me. You're nuts. You're absolutely nuts. No, I'm not. No, I'm not. If I'm going to go back and forth, it's a question of working over there because I plan on broadcasting from there. I plan on traveling to other countries. And if I'm within Europe, it's just so much easier to have an EU passport. So, and by definition, she'll have a passport. Now, for me, I'm fine with this country. I know it's crazy, but. I'm, you know, I'm not leaving for political reasons. She wants out for political reasons. And she's not alone. We have friends that just can't stand it. And that number is growing. How has it affected her? She got married. She's got a lovely home. What is, what is the day to day pressure? It emotionally, it affects her. It affects her. I mean, across the board, what happened with Roe v. Wade, the overturning of the Supreme Court. You yourself said legally that was the right thing to do. I'm not arguing that. It's just what happened politically. That's not politics. You said that's law. It was politics. It was politics. The Supreme Court is politics. So which was? Supreme Court is politics. Was it political when they instilled Roe v. Wade or was it political? Yeah, it was. No, it was political. It was. It was a question of a liberal view of the Constitution that rights under the Constitution. And they made it up. I mean, Black men in the court made it up, the Warren Court, that somehow there's privacy under the Constitution. There isn't. But it was a political move because you had a very liberal court. Now you have a very conservative court in overturning Roe v. Wade. Both of them, by the way, you have an argument for.
Matter of fact, I think the conservative view is a stronger legal argument, but that's not the point. What we're doing is we're looking at the elections. We're looking at the polarization. We're looking at this has become the civil war, brother against brother here. And it is that tough. And people just want to bail out. So I'm going to be, can you imagine this? Coming up in the next couple months, I'm going to be a Polish citizen. I'm going to be the butt of every Polish joke. You already are. You know, I mean, how many Polacks does it take to broadcast a radio show in the morning? Well, you got 15 that have to do the light bulb, and then you have, you know, it's going to be every Polish joke ever. The hope is that the Magas and those extremists get up and leave. And then all of the people that are freaked out by the Magas get up and leave. And the rest of us Midlands are normal people. We stay. I'm not arguing that. I'm what I'm stating. I live in the middle of this. I live in a world of get out of Dodge. The people who are looking at what this administration is doing and they are on the other side feel viscery fundamentally. It's so flawed. It is so difficult. At the same time, you have people, for example, I did a story on how people leave California. There are people that leave California because they can't stand the politics. They can't stand how liberal California is and they have to get out. They have to get out. It's, you know, I happen to live in a neighborhood where there are lots and lots of American flags. And if we were going to have, well, what Lindsay wanted to do is put up one of those yard signs, you know, Biden Harris. I said, you know, our house is going to be torched. You know that, don't you? The American flag is. We are not going to survive that. That's all of our flag. That's not a maga flag. No, it's not, that's not true. The American flag has been co-opted. No, it's been given to them because because liberals won't waive it because they think they'll be seen as patriotic maga hats. That's good. That's my point. Yeah, that's my point. The American flag has been co-opted. It's everybody's flag. It has, of course it is, Neil. Of course it is. But the point is, it has been co-opted where now when you see an American flag in front of a house, what do you think? You think that person voted for Harris, Biden? I see a black lives matter flag in the American flag. Same thing. Then it's the other thing. I see a pride flag in the American flag. Yes. Yes. And those are. And you don't see those. You don't see those flags in. You've been listening to the Bill Handel show. Catch my show Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and anytime on demand on the Iheart radio app.
