Trump promises a big announcement this afternoon and coming up at 508. They tried to change the logo. Now they are changing the menu. Details in the minutes ahead. In terms of Democrats standing up, should they be holding back their votes on the funding? Is this even a question? Of course we should. Yeah, that's California Democrat. Congressman Ro Khanna on MSNBC. Lawmakers return to work today with 28 days to go before a potential government shutdown, which the Democrats want because they don't like Trump policies like shutting the border down and fighting crime. The Dems love them some term limits when they're not in power, but many Republicans agree. Some conservatives, though, are making the case against them. And that includes political writer and commentator Arthur Schopper. I live in the state of California, and we've had term limits, and it didn't help. In fact, California has gotten more progressive, more woke, more corrupt. Shopper says this is not new. The framers of the Constitution, they discussed this measure, and ultimately they didn't include in the Constitution. So this is an old discussion, and it's time for us to look at our wise founders. Term limits is not the answer. Jeff Andy Biggs News Radio 740, Kate Hereage. In time, California Governor Gavin Newsom continues to make waves, trying to act like Trump on social media, write down to posting in all capital letters. Gavin Newsom is an embarrassment to position he holds.

Borders are Tom Homan there. Even though the notoriously liberal San Antonio newspaper is against Trump, they called Gavin Newsom an online bully, adding that his supporters are, quote, riding in a clown car. The president, as Jimmy alluded to, makes an announcement at the White House this afternoon at 1 o'clock. This comes after rumors about his health spread on social media over the weekend, debunked when Trump showed up at his golf course in Virginia to play around on Saturday. 503 now nearly 800 laws. New laws are on the books in Texas as of yesterday. Attorney General Ken Paxton moments ago, singling out one of them. I certainly like what they did with the Ten Commandments in prayer and school. It seemed like a really good session. Ken Paxton on Fox and Friends there. That said there are lawsuits pending, but the requirement still stands for most school districts. Right now, there are only 11 school districts that don't have to comply with the law. The rest of them, all 1,189. are free to put up the posters. There's nothing for them to worry about when they do because they'll simply be following state law. Jonathan signs with Texas value says he expects most districts to be in compliance, but there might be stragglers. You may see some school districts that decide not to, but they're going against the state law by doing it. They need to be careful because they might find themselves on the opposite side of a lawsuit. In the Houston area, Fort Bend, Houston, and Cypher ISDs are all exempted, but Conroe ISD is already in compliance. Ethan Buchanan, News Radio 740, KTRH. You mentioned Conroe ISD. That's got an all-conservative school board, but some liberals are complaining about the new law. My worry comes from after being a teacher, knowing the diverse students that we have. My heart goes out to them and their parents because their face are not being represented here. Yeah, that woman with our TV partner channel too. So that's one triggered leftist. Here's another. Rosie O'Donnell, forced to apologize for saying this after last week's Catholic school shooting in Minneapolis. What do you know? Was a white guy, Republican, maga person? Now Rosie says she didn't, quote, do her due diligence. It's now 505 on KTRH. We think we're going to win at the Supreme Court. We are close to a tipping point where we could have financial instability due to these large and persistent trade deficits. So we are trying to head off a crisis. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Don Fox, reacting to the ruling late on Friday, declaring most of President Trump's tariffs illegal. They will stay in place until October 14th so the administration can appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. So given the uncertainty, this is not a shock this morning. Investors not happy. Futures down across the board. Down futures off almost 200 points. Now that September's here? All eyes? are back on the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve meets this month with an interest rate cut widely expected, but how big will it be? Financial planner Richard Rosso says Fed Chair Jerome Powell finally realizes tariffs are not causing runaway inflation based on the personal consumption expenditures index. PCE is pretty stable and yet economic growth is increasing. That does give him the ammunition to go ahead and lower rates and it's justified. It's just not going to be this 100 basis point cut.

I worked at a, I think it was an insurance company, but the great, this is the best part. My dad worked across the street, and I was a Nepo baby. Yeah, my dad got me in an insurance job. Yeah.

I don't know if that qualifies. I had two good jobs. I interned at motion picture advertising, so I got the screenings of movies. But I also was a pool monitor in high school, which is a lifeguard instructed not to save people. Wait, what? What were you there for them? I just watched the condo pool. And on my first day in the job, they said, if you see somebody drowning. Don't do anything. What? Because we don't have the insurance. You're not a lifeguard. You're like a security. Governors like J.B. Pritzker and Gavin Newsom and others are part of the problem. Texas Congressman Pat Fallon there, as President Trump declared Washington, D.C., quote, crime free because of his crackdown. Now, Chicago could very well be next on Trump's target list, and the radical left mayor there started a war of war. He is reckless and out of control. He is the biggest threat to our democracy that we've experienced in the history of our country. But what is really reckless and out of control is crime in Chicago, where 54 people were shot with seven killed this weekend alone. But Mayor Brandon Johnson signed in order to resist federal government help. We had a violent weekend across Houston as well, at least three shootings. Two people killed, including a 17-year-old at a party in East Harris County that drew upwards of 200 people. An 11-year-old shot and killed by an east side homeowner over the weekend after the ding-dong ditch prank. And the homeowner detained, then released, no charges yet. neighbors react. You got to teach them and let them know what's right and what's wrong. And it's wrong to knock on somebody dope playing a prank. I don't care what it is. It's just wrong. That man with our TV partner channel 2. It's now 533. The president is set to make an announcement from the White House this afternoon. It'll be at 1 o'clock. Right now we don't know what that announcement is concerning. As Democrats continue to struggle with record low polling and approval numbers.

Political host and commentator Kurt Schleister tells KTRH the left needs to find somebody who's willing to take. The Sane Lane. There's a huge open space if you want to go in and just go, look, I'm a normal guy. And that families are good and that you should work for a living instead of taking welfare. And that's been done before. And it was, of course, done by Bill Clinton. And even Joe Biden to some extent in 2020. But Schleister's not sure anyone who is moderate can get past the progressives in 28. 533, a federal judge appointed by Joe Biden blocks the White House from reuniting illegal alien kids with their parents in Guatemala. Attorneys and advocates for the children sued the Department of Homeland Security, arguing the deportations were illegal, and the children would be sent back to peril in Guatemala with no due process. The Trump Justice Department argues that the children had been smuggled across the southern border illegally and alone, and were being reunited with family in Guatemala who sought their return. turn. Bill Malusian reporting there. More mainstream media games. DHS secretary Kristi Noem says CBS cut out about four minutes of the 16 minute interview she did about the illegal alien Kilmar Obrigo Garcia. CBS also accused of editing that Kamala Harris interview last year. Remember that? And they wound up paying the president's $16 million to settle a lawsuit. 534, the DHS Secretary spoke at a recent meeting of the FEMA Review Council and promoted the idea of letting states take the lead on emergency response, something that could help disaster victims. It could mean a quicker response, and it's a more localized decision-making since states and local agencies, they know their community is the best. The challenge is going to be that not all states have the same level of resources. Emergency expert Mark Herrera says FEMA will still have to take the lead on more disasters inside states with limited resources, but other than that, they should just serve in a support capacity. Here at home, the Taiwanese manufacturer Foxcon is about to begin building AI hardware right here in Houston. That could mean about 100 megawatts of added electricity demand. The question is... Can we handle that? To the extent that new transmission lines have been built from these rural areas to bring power to the Houston area, we should be okay to add the Foxcom plant and any others to the Houston area. Ed Hirsch with U of H says that thanks to local, to coal, LNG, and even nuclear plants in the area, we should have plenty of capacity for this. 535, still no date for any talks between Russia and Ukraine, despite President Trump, meaning with both... Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky. That's got investors nervous oil futures are up this morning, a buck 89 to $65.90 a barrel. A potential red flag for the Texas oil industry. Nearly 3,000 jobs in the state were lost over the summer.

It equates to about 1.5% of the workforce and low prices have hurt. Companies have to adjust to those low prices. As we go through this adjustment, there's been a little bit of shakeout, and it's caused a lot of people to kind of tighten up their bootstraps a little bit. Oil and gas expert Phil Flynn says demand is still strong, and the problem links back to Biden's emptying of the Strategic Reserve. In a normal market, if that oil wasn't released by the government, the U.S. oil producers would have risen production to make up a big chunk. of that. You ever heard of a game kids play sometimes called ding-dong ditch? You know, you ring the doorbell of a neighbor or even in some cases of a perfect stranger. And you run. Ding-dong ditch. Doesn't strike me as being a whole heck of a lot of fun. Don't recall playing it myself. Not as much fun as toilet paper. Toilet paper was a lot fun. T-ping somebody's house. You know, we did that, unfortunately. We did that a lot when we were kids. We also soap windows. I didn't say wax. Waxing windows, the wax is hard to get off. The soap is relatively easy to get off. But ding-dong ditch in a major city. At 11 o'clock at night, can we all agree that that's probably not a good idea? And it's hard to know who to be mad at over this story because the 11-year-old Texas boy has lost his life. He was shot in the back. That may become very important in this thing once they determine exactly who shot him. Shot in the bank back when he allegedly attempted a door-knocking prank on a neighbor. This happened at 10.55 p.m. Let's just call it 11 p.m. on Saturday. Okay. Again, I'm being old fashioned here, but you're 11-year-old boy and you're out unsupervised at 11 o'clock at night. Is anything good going to happen? No. Not at all. Initially thought he was 10. He's actually 11. Not much of a difference between a 10-year-old and 11-year-old. They said the kid was ringing doorbells of homes in the area running away. Witness stated the mail running from a house after ringing the doorbell just prior to suffering a gunshot wound. So somebody shot him. It's unclear from the story. And of course, they're still investigating. So the details are going to be sketchy whether or not the shot came from that home or the shot came from somewhere else. I'm going to assume I probably shouldn't, but I'm going to assume for now that the shot may have come from that home. Or from somebody else whose doorbell he rang a couple of minutes before. There's only a two-word answer I can come up with to prevent things like this from happening. It's called adult supervision. You know, that would be my question. He's 11 years old. It's 11 o'clock on the Saturday night. I know it's not school night, but it's 11 o'clock at night. He's out there by himself being stupid. And where are mom and or dad?

In this case, 540, time for traffic and weathered together. I'll be honest with you. I mean, that's a tragedy, but I fully expected to get shot at when we were toilet papering homes, you know, back in the day. But they've shut this off. It's looking pretty funky. Whatever's going on there. HFD's on the scene here. Not causing a big backup. All right, we talk about Centerpoint, and we talk about power demand all the time, and we have talked recently about rising power demand, not just from all the people who've moved here to Texas and all the businesses that have moved to Texas, but the types. of businesses that are moving to Texas. You've got a bunch of AI projects coming to Houston with Apple and Nvidia, and they draw a lot of energy. The question is, will we be prepared? Ed HERS joins us, Energy Fellow at the University of Houston. Ed, welcome to the show. I don't think we're... Thank you. Good morning. Yeah, good morning to you, sir. I don't think we're prepared yet. The question is, will we be prepared? We'll be fine. These projects, these are industrial constructions. This is going to take a couple of three years to get everything put together and built. We certainly have enough generation capacity around the Houston area to serve everybody. Centerpoint really is going to be in charge of hooking up the wires, if you will, making sure the connections are able to be made. And that's what they do. Okay. That's simple, huh? It really is. We've seen the work around town that CenterPoint's doing to harden the grid with the steel poles, the composite poles, hanging the wires above the tree canopy going underground in some places. What's concerning is the Public Utility Commission cut CenterPoint's resiliency plan from $5.7 billion to $2.7 billion. They proposed something really in response to criticism from the local government, the city and county. This is where they have their service area. And the, well, the governor's appointees on the Public Utility Commission took a, took a hatchet to it and cut it by more than half. Why? Why did they do that?

I can't. I can't tell you. I don't know why. They said, Bob, we don't want to keep the rates up. We don't want to do this. But we know that this time last year, we were still reeling from having Hurricane Barrel go through a small category one. that took 7. Point more than three weeks in some places to restore the grid. You know, this is quickly morphing it, I think, into a little bit of a different conversation here, because it sounds to me like you may be feeling a little critical towards the Public Utility Commission, and I can tell you I certainly am. I do not believe that the people the governor appointed this commission know what the hell they're doing. No, the three commissioners now are... Well, they're ingrown. They've never run a utility. They're lawyers. They're lobbyists. That's their qualifications. Are they political paybacks? Is that what they are? I don't think they're political paybacks. They've never gotten a position to be of any political power. They're just political parties. Are they supporters of Governor Greg Abbott who really shouldn't have the position? Oh, absolutely. And they only have it because of their relationship with them. Right. That's the first qualification. We don't we don't have anybody on the commission from the Houston area either. I would think that, you know, I'm a little surprised that more attention hasn't been paid to that aspect of it because certainly this commission was in charge when they allowed CenterPoint to get to the point where they hadn't really maintained the things the way they should. Everybody got upset, including the governor, put a lot of pressure on Centerpoint in order to, you know, to spend more money to do what they had to do to make the grid safe. And... They responded by doing that. Unfortunately, they had to be forced into doing it. But through all of this, you've got the same public utility commission members that you had before. I would have thought they would be the first people you'd want to change. Well, it's a little different. We did have a Houstonian on the commission this time last year, and we had several resign over the past couple of three years, as you know. And the folks who are the three commissioners who are serving now, I think they can have up to five, are Greg Abbott loyalists from Austin. Well, I don't mind if the governor wants to have a loyalist on the Public Utility Commission as long as they know what they're doing. Or have some background in energy, for goodness sakes.

Yeah, the public utility commission has been a problem for a long time. During Rick Perry's reign, the commissioners were primarily right-of-way lawyers. And they advertise for their right-of-way legal services, even while they were ruling on wires and underground utilities pipelines and things that are necessary for the local distribution of electricity and gas. Look, this, we didn't start off on a good foot. We had Democrats vote for Lake and Riley that has allowed for deportation without due process. We had Democrats vote from capitulation. We need to stand our ground. California Congressman Rocana on MSNBC. Now, this has led to talk of congressional term limits, but political commentator Arthur Schopper tells KTRH. Term limits really don't help. What happens with term limits, the legislators are cycled out. But the lobbyists, the special interests, the corporate interests, they remain in power. And they're able to take advantage of the new legislators who cycle in. That's where the real problem is. And he adds that term limits would also allow a lame duck lawmaker to go rogue, potentially, before leaving office. And then there's California Governor Gavin Newsom, who's so desperate for attention these days. He's actually acting like Trump on social media. He's trying to be relevant, apparently, whatever. Borders are Tom Homan on Fox. The imitation includes Gavin Newsom posting in all capital letters, you know, the way the president does. Even liberal media outlets are calling him out. One said Gavin Newsom was acting like, quote, an online bully. 603 on KTRH, despite an ongoing lawsuit as of yesterday. All Texas public school classrooms are required to display the 10 commandments with just 11 districts exempted because of the ongoing legal battle. The attorney general, Ken Paxton, has already put out a letter, making it clear that the 1,189 school districts that are not affected by the ruling are required to put up the posters. And there are people all over the state that are ready to help them do that. Jonathan signs with Texas values among the Houston area districts exempted Fort Bend, HISD, and SciFair, but districts like Conroe are not. They are already in compliance. More fallout from last week's shooting at a Catholic church school in Minneapolis. Rosie O'Donnell, remember her? Well, she was forced to apologize for claiming the Chuck Schumer was, quote, a white guy Republican maga person. I did not do my due diligence before I made that emotional statement. And I said things about the shooter that were incorrect. Rosie on X. Meantime, a pair of students at a San Antonio area high school arrested late last week for planning a school shooting. They were charged with making terroristic threats. We told you last week that less than half of all Texas schools were following the law requiring armed security on campus. As for higher education, the American Bar Association, which oversees... law school accreditation is under fire for doubling down on their support for DEI. That's why some states, including Texas, are looking to make changes. Moving that accreditation back to the Texas Supreme Court, which added originally, is a very good idea because the judges on that court were elected.

Policy analyst Sherry Sylvester says the Bar Association has been caught demanding that law schools recruit based on race instead of test scores. 605, more judicial activism before Labor Day, President Trump's tariffs struck down by a federal appeals court, trade advisor Peter Navarro calling it out. It breaks down to the exact same kind of partisan weaponization of the courts that we're seeing in other... decisions with respect to illegal immigration and other kinds of things. Tariffs remain in effect until October 14th so the White House can appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. Investors not happy with the uncertainty this morning. Futures are down across the board, including 275 points on the Dow. Now, after holding interest rates steady since the start of the year, the Federal Reserve is expected to deliver a rate cut at its meeting later this month. The question is, how much? Financial planner Richard Rosso says conditions are ripe. The inflation rate, it's above their target. They've lowered rates when it was higher above their target than it is now. So more growth and stable PCE portends to maybe a higher than what was expected rate cut. He predicts a rate cut of 50 basis points. The president wants a cut of 100 basis points. 606, the Astros beating the Angels 8 to 3. Luis Garcia's first win in more than two years. The Ten Commandments, they're on display in Conroe. Despite the fact that we have... Some jurisdictions that have been impacted by a judge who has blocked the state law. That'll end up working its way through the court system. Jonathan Seines joins us at Texas values. I always get frustrated by the argument over the church and state that somehow that there's something in the Ten Commandments that endorses a particular religion. There's no particular religion endorsed in the Ten Commandments, is there? Well, look, I mean, there's not. I mean, it's in the Ten Commandments being displayed is about the historical significance and relevance that the Ten Commandments have had on American law, policy, government, and culture. And it's not just me saying that. The U.S. Supreme Court has already said that. There's a depiction of the Ten Commandments on the U.S. Supreme Court building. So if the U.S. Supreme Court is okay with having that on their building. I think it's fair to say they're going to be okay with that being a part of public school classrooms. And you're right. I mean, the Ten Commandments relate to Judaism and also Christianity and a lot of other non-Christian faiths have acknowledged the significance, though, of the Ten Commandments. And many scholars have acknowledged the impact that it's had on our law and policy. And that's the reason for Senate Bill 10, which actually went into effect yesterday. Today's the first public school day since yesterday.

And you mentioned the court ruling. This law went into effect September 1st, but there was a court ruling, and I was in the courtroom for this hearing in San Antonio. It only impacts 11 out of 1,200 school districts across the state of Texas. Now, that does include Houston ISD and also SciFair, but every other school district in your listening audience, which is an overwhelming majority of them, have to follow the state law. optional. It's not, well, if we feel like it, the law makes it clear that the Ten Commandments posters have to be hung up. Now, the school districts don't have to purchase them. They can if they want, but they're not required to be the ones that purchase them. And so that's why a lot of volunteers and people are donating thousands of posters across the state of Texas, including Conroe ISD. We actually donated the posters for Conroe ISD. But you can go to 10 commandments, Texas.com. That website tells you how to find out what your school district is doing, how to post. posters to them, how to order them. They're only a dollar each. So there are close to 300,000 public school classrooms across the state of Texas. So that's a lot of posters. But we've been working on this for months. And so I want to make sure everybody's clear. In the listening audience there, if you're not in Syfair or Houston ISD, your school district is required to have these posters hanging up. And if they're not, please let us know. Now, the judge ruled for those 11, you mentioned 11 districts that the judge ruled on. How did those districts he picked? Were these the ones that were bringing the suit against this? Well, the school districts are not bringing the lawsuit. The lawsuit is brought by New York lawyers from the ACLU and some families that they recruited in certain parts of the state of Texas. So the school districts are actually being defended by the Attorney General's office of the state of Texas. And so if they were not named in that lawsuit, those particular school districts like Conroy SD. And the Attorney General has made that clear. Ken Paxton put out a letter making it clear that if you're not in those 11 school districts and it's like Alamo Heights in the San Antonio. area Lake Travis, Austin ISD, Houston ISD, SciFair, I mentioned earlier, and Northside, a few others. that you're required to follow that law. And look, it's about reminding kids of the historical connection and relevance. And they're not required to read the Ten Commandments. They're not even required to see them or acknowledge them. Now, it is required to be displayed in the public school classroom as a part of our historical connection to the Ten Commandments in American law and policy and government. So there's, and look, students are already, it's already part of our teaching in classrooms. And like I said earlier, Supreme Court has already said in numerous cases that these types of displays, they don't force kids to believe anything. It's just an acknowledgement of our history. Well, not to mention the fact that most of these are displayed in law in our nation's courtrooms. You know, most of the 10, you break most of the 10 commandments and you will be punished because it's against the law. So, you know, again, it's a legal, and it's not only a legal lesson, it's a moral lesson as well.

Well, it may make its way up to the U.S. Supreme Court, but three years ago, the Supreme Court said we're going back to a standard of religious liberty, particularly for these public school settings, because the government should not be hostile to religion. And that means if there is a historical document, like the Ten Commandments, it has a part of connection to American law, policy, government, and culture, we shouldn't erase it. We shouldn't tear it down just because it might also have some religious connection. And that's the situation here. We're going to follow and support this thing all the way through the courts. We had at least four shootings, three people killed, including one person early this morning on the northeast side. Now, the east side homeowner who shot and killed an 11-year-old boy playing ding-dong ditch this weekend is charged with murder, according to a local TV report and court documents. The shoot. The way they say he did. I think they told me it was two or three shots. You know, like I say, unless he's mistaken them for a grown person, but you've got to be charged for something because of an innocent life forsaken. That man with our TV partner channel, too. Meantime, President Trump declared Washington crime free after his crackdown. I was at Union Station yesterday. It was so nice to be able to walk through the Union Station without being harassed, without seeing all the trash and everything around Union Station. Georgia Republican Buddy Carter on Fox. It's now 634. The White House says President Trump will make an announcement from the Oval Office at 1 o'clock. And with a countdown already on to next year's midterms, the left is doubling down on attacking the president. But what's their plan for 2028? And specifically, will there be a Democrat that takes the sane lane? The same lane offers a chance for them to appeal to the normal people. They've driven away with all this trans-indiancy. We love illegal aliens and open borders. That is town hall media columnist Kurt Schlichter. Whether there's a Democrat who could actually do it is a great question. Right now, the energy of the money is on the fighters, and you see Gavin Newsom making a fool of himself. Some of the other Dems options include Josh Shapiro and Ro Khanna. Jeff Andy Biggs News Radio 740. K. Teary 635 now more judicial obstruction over the weekend. One ruling on Trump tariffs, another stopped illegal alien kids from being reunited with their parents. Some of those kids were sitting in planes on the tarmac in Texas when this order came down. It was from federal judge Sparkle Sukhnanan in Washington, D.C. She is a Biden appointee. This happened after attorneys and advocates representing the Guatemalan children argued that the Trump administration was violating U.S. laws and potentially... sending the kids to peril in their home countries. Bill Malusian reporting there. DHS secretary Kristi Noem posting to X that CBS cut out four minutes of the interview. She recently did with them about Kilmar Abrago Garcia, the illegal alien, re-arrested last week. Coming up on 636, the DHS secretary once again suggesting that FEMA let states take the lead on their disaster response.

Would that help disaster victims? The most effective model is usually a partnership. It's a strong state-led response that's just backed up by federal support. When the thresholds are exceeded, preparedness is going to be the key. Emergency response expert Mark Herrera says allowing the states to take in the lead could be very effective, but it will be important for FEMA to step up in states that have less resources. Upstream oil in Texas loses 3,000 jobs over the summer. Fox's Phil Flynn says there's no cause for concern. Demand is still strong. This is all about adjusting to the current market. Is there a little bit of shakeout? Yes. Companies are tightening in their belts just a little bit. But we would fully expect that. these jobs will be replaced in the next couple years because the demand for oil is going to be continuing to grow. Oil is up $1.75 this morning to almost $66 a barrel. $6.36, the Astros beat the Yankees 8 to 3, splitting the four-game series. The Astros beat the Angels 8 to 3. They play the Yankees tonight. We have 830 new Texas laws that went into effect yesterday on September the 1st. Some of them are kind of, well, some of them are things that... You probably didn't know that the state legislature did. Won't really impact your life. That's probably the vast majority of them when you get right down to it. There's, I mean, any kind of law that you can imagine. For example, new penalties for assaulting utility workers. Did we need a separate assault bill for utility workers? Senate bill 482 increasing penalties for assaulting utility workers banking it a third degree felony and raising harassment to a class A misdemeanor if the incident occurs while the workers on duty. Can I assume that this is, should we just call it the center point law? You know, for the people who were angry because their power was out for days after barrel and they couldn't get their power back on? The law specifically covers workers in electricity, gas, telecommunications, and pipeline industries, and aims to give them the same protections as other emergency personnel. Don't we have assault? I would think that normal criminal assault laws would suffice, but no, we've got to do something different just for utility workers, I guess.

um higher stakes for educators over harmful materials sent a bill 412 limits legal protections for teachers librarians medical professionals and parents providing material deemed harmful to minors well that gets to be kind of subjective right who gets to decide whether or not it was harmful the parents or judge or a jury that that law has gone into effect Um, a whole slew of them. I mean, I couldn't even begin to name them all. Go into fact, I would, they're a website you can go to if you really want to do a deep dive into it. You'll find some things that are probably very good and useful. You'll find other things that will make you scratch your head and wonder why anybody thought that was necessary. And you'll find some other things that may make you just a little bit angry. For example, do you know that they allocate a $1.5 billion? For the Texas Moving Image Industry Program to attract film, TV shows, commercials, animation, and video game production to our state. The program's been around for almost 20 years, but its budget was previously debated each session. Now 300 million is guaranteed every two years through 2035 without any sort of discussion at all. 300 million each and every year. 640, time for traffic and weather together. What the client also has to understand is that the income tax rate right now for large wins or large incomes is 37%. So it's not going to be a billion one that the client gets. It's $500 million prior to after the lump sum amount. And then after taxes, it's going to be about 300 million. So it's basically 300 million that you need to be planning for as far as how would I use this 300 million? Am I going to give some to my children? Am I going to give some to a brother or sister or to some close friend? Those transfers of those gifts may cause a gift tax as soon as you go over $14 million. That gift tax is 40%. So you have an income tax of 37%. You have a gift tax of 40%. That's why a plan needs to be put together so that the person can identify. I like to ask the person. Where do you see yourself a year from now? Who would you have helped out? What would you have wanted to do? And then I incorporate that plan into what we are today so that I can help them meet their goals and objectives in a tax efficient manner. I want my clients to be anonymous. I want it to be a tax efficient claim. And I want to surround the client with people that will let the client be successful. So that's putting the team together, the CPAs, the financial people. So that way, you know, again, the client has everything that they need. to be successful. The choice between the annuity and that lump sum amount, the annuity could be anywhere from 10 to the first year to about 40 million on the 30th year. And so you're weighing that versus do I take the 300 million? Do I invest that and get 10 to 15 million dollars, most of which will be tax free? I still have the 300 million in the bank and I've already paid all my taxes on it. You know, it struck me in that conversation. You have to have a team. All right, time for the timeline. In terms of Democrats standing up, should they be holding back their votes on the funding. Is this even a question? Of course we should. California Democrat Congressman Rocana on MSNBC. Lawmakers returned to work today. with 28 days to go before a potential government shutdown. That's because the left doesn't like Trump policies like, you know, shutting the border down or fighting crime. The Dems also love term limits when they're not in power. Many Republicans agree, but some conservatives are starting to make the case against them. And that includes political writer and commentator Arthur Schopper. I live in the state of California, and we've had term limits, and it didn't help. In fact, California has gotten more progressive, more woke, more corrupt. Shopper says this is not new. The framers of the Constitution, they discussed this measure, and ultimately they didn't include in the Constitution. So this is an old discussion, and it's time for us to look at our wise founders. Imitation, right down to the posts in all capital letters. Gavin Newsom is an embarrassment to position he holds.

Borders are Tom Homan there. Even the notoriously liberal San Antonio newspaper is piling on calling Gavin Newsom a quote online bully. The president's scheduled to make an announcement at the White House this afternoon at 1 o'clock. This comes after rumors about his health spread like wildfire on social media over the weekend, debunked by Trump making an appearance on the golf course on Saturday. It's now 703 on KTRH. Nearly 800 new laws are on the books as of yesterday. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton singled out one of them this morning. I certainly like what they did with the Ten Commandments and Prayer and School. It seemed like a really good session. Ken Paxton on Fox this morning, that said there are lawsuits pending, but the requirement still stands for most districts. Right now, there are only 11 school districts that don't have to comply with the law. The rest of them, all 1,189, they're free to put up the posters. There's nothing for them to worry about when they do because they'll simply be following state law. Jonathan signs with Texas value. says he expects most districts to be in compliance, but there might be stragglers. You may see some school districts that decide not to, but they're going against the state law by doing it. They need to be careful because they might find themselves on the opposite side of a lawsuit. In the Houston area, Fort Bend, Houston, and Cyfair ISDs are all exempted, but Conroe ISD is already in compliance. Ethan Buchanan, News Radio 740, KTRH. Of course, even in Conroe ISD, with its all-female and all-conservative school board, there are some liberals exist. They're complaining. My worry comes from after being a teacher, knowing the diverse students that we have. My heart goes out to them and their parents because their face are not being represented here. Speaking of triggered liberals, I give you Rosie O'Donnell, who is forced to apologize for saying this after last week's Catholic school shooting in Minneapolis. What do you know? Was a white guy Republican? Mag a person. Hmm. Rosie now says she didn't do her quote. due diligence. It's now 705 on KTRH. We think we're going to win at the Supreme Court. We are close to a tipping point where we could have financial instability due to these large and persistent trade deficits. So we are trying to head off a crisis. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent reacting to the ruling on Friday that declared most of President Trump's tariffs illegal. And they'll stay in place until October 14th so the administration can appeal. to the U.S. Supreme Court. Given the uncertainty over this, it's no surprise that Dow futures this morning are down more than 250 points. And now that September is here, all eyes are squarely back on the Fed. The Federal Reserve meets this month with an interest rate cut widely expected, but how big will it be? Financial planner Richard Rosso says Fed Chair Jerome Powell finally realizes tariffs are not causing runaway inflation based on the Personal Consumption Expenditures Index. PCE is pretty stable and yet economic growth is increasing. That does give him the ammunition to go ahead and lower rates and it's justified. It's just not going to be this 100 basis point cut that the president wants. He thinks we're likely to get a 50 point cut. The Fed's meeting starts September 16th. Corey Olson, News Radio 740, KTRH. You know, it's not easy going out and making a living. So you go out there and you try jobs, especially jobs you don't like, you realize how hard the work is, makes you appreciate things a little bit more. 7-10.

So Rom's got that political capital to do it. And he's already come out, I believe, pretty fairly strong as far as men not. competing in women's sports. Wow, what a groundbreaking idea that is. Yeah. But I think Rums come out on that, and I just see that. But I see a bunch of other clowns probably running. Cory Booker, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Pete Buttigieg, Gavin Newsom is probably the biggest clown of all. He'll probably run as well. It'll be a crowded field. And so far, you know, from the people we know for sure are going to run, they all have Trump derangement syndrome. They're all running on that. And that is, that's the only thing the Democrat party at this point seems to be willing to do. I would think the first Democrat who could somehow say no to the far left progressive part of the party and just run it down the middle, Bill Clinton style, run it down the middle. and stand for law and order and some of these other things that even most of your Democrats admit, you know, need to be in play here. If somebody would just do that, they'd have a chance. Exactly. You would think it would be the easiest thing in politics to be a relatively normal, sane candidate in the Democratic Party. All you'd have to do is just be somewhere near normal and not every other word out of your mouth is, you know, Trump, Trump, Trump's horrible, he's this, he's that. It would be so easy, but that's how pathetic. the party is right now, and they know it, but they can't help themselves. Yep, sure seems that way. That being the case, assuming nothing changes between now and next November, what sort of a midterm would you predict? What sort of midterm result? We know what historical norms would tell us that the Republicans would lose seats. Would you see that happening if the Democrats don't change their tune? You know, when you get into those kind of races, though, they all become local, right? And I think that it's still probable, probable, that the Republicans would lose a couple seats in the House, and we'll see how this redistricting goes. But I would think that, yeah, the House is very precarious, even though the Democratic Party is a disaster. These races run into local, local.

I'm cheering for a safer Washington and a safer America. Governors like J.B. Pritzker and Gavin Newsom and others are part of the problem. Texas Congressman Pat Fallon on Fox, as President Trump declares Washington, D.C., quote, quire him free now after his crackdown there last month. Chicago could very well be next on Trump's list, and the radical left mayor there has started a war of words with the president. He is reckless and out of control. He is the biggest threat to our democracy that we've experienced. in the history of our country. But what's really reckless and out of control is crime in Chicago. More than 50 people were shot. There were seven deaths this weekend alone, yet the mayor, Brandon Johnson, signed in order to resist federal government help. A violent weekend across Houston as well where he had at least four shootings. Three people killed, including a 17-year-old at a party in East Harris County that drew about 200 people. Meantime, an 11-year-old is shot and killed by an east side homeowner this weekend after a prank. The homeowner detained now charged with murder and neighbors react. You got to teach them and let them know what's right and what's wrong. And it's wrong to knock on somebody dope playing a prank. I don't care what it is. It's just wrong. That man with our TV partner, Channel 2. It's now 733. The president will make an announcement from the White House at 1 o'clock this afternoon. We don't know what it's going to be about, but we do know that Democrats continue to struggle with record low polling and approval numbers. Political host and commentator Kurt Schlichter tells KTRH the Dems need to find somebody who's willing to take.

The sane lane. There's a huge open space if you want to go in and just go, look, I'm a normal guy. And that families are good and that you should work for a living instead of taking welfare. And that's been done before. And it was, of course, done by Bill Clinton. But Schlichter is not sure anyone who is moderate can get past the progressives in 2008. It's coming up on 734 now. Federal judge appointed by Joe Biden blocks the Trump administration. from returning a group of illegal alien kids to their parents in Guatemala. Attorneys and advocates for the children sued the Department of Homeland Security, arguing that deportations were illegal, and the children would be sent back to peril in Guatemala with no due process. The Trump Justice Department argues that the children had been smuggled across the southern border illegally and alone, and were being reunited with family in Guatemala who sought their return. More mainstream media games, that was Bill Malusian, by the way. DHS Secretary Chris Christie. Oams, says CBS cut out nearly four minutes of her 16-minute interview she did about the illegal alien Kilmar Abrago Garcia. CBS was also accused of editing an interview last year to help Kamala Harris. The president sued, and CBS paid him $16 million to settle. 735 now, the DHS Secretary spoke at a recent meeting of the FEMA Review Council and promoted the idea of letting states take the lead on emergency response, something that could help disaster victims. It could mean a quicker response, and it's a more localized decision-making since states and local agencies, they know their community is the best. The challenge is going to be that energy expert Mark Carrera says FEMA will still have to take the lead on disasters inside states with limited. resources, but other than that, they should serve it in more of a support capacity. The Taiwanese manufacturer Foxcon is about to begin building AI hardware white here in Houston. It could mean about 100 megawatts of added electricity demand. The question is, can the Texas grid actually handle it? To the extent that new transmission lines have been built from these rural areas to bring power to the Houston area, we should be okay to add the Foxcom plant and any others to the Houston area. And Hearst with U of H says that thanks to coal, LNG, and even nuclear, we should have plenty of capacity for this and any other manufacturing plants that want to come here. Still no date for any talks between Russia and Ukraine, despite President Trump meeting with both Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky last month. This has investors nervous. Oil futures are up a buck 65 this morning to nearly $66 a barrel. A potential red flag for the Texas oil industry. Nearly 3,000 jobs in this state vanished over the summer. It equates to about 1.5% of the workforce and low prices have hurt. Companies have to adjust to those low prices. As we go through this adjustment, there's been a little bit of shakeout, and it's caused a lot of people to kind of tighten up their bootstraps a little bit. Oil and gas expert Phil Flynn says demand is still strong, and the problem links back to Biden's emptying of the Strategic Reserve. In a normal market, if that oil wasn't released by the government, the U.S. oil producers would have risen production to make up a big chunk.

They had one recently, too. In all those cases, there was no active shooter. It was just an attempt to try to get... you know, SWAT to respond to it and for the police to use their resources and for people to panic and hopefully, I guess, for somebody to get hurt. That seems to be the motivation behind it. But there's not only group, I guess, that's taking credit for this, but there are people who think that maybe this is more about foreign powers. This is being done by a foreign country. And if so, for what purpose? Here's Cully Stimson. He is with the Heritage Foundation. Now, this is not some, you know, hell week prank that some fraternity guy does to pull the fire alarm in a campus building. This is an actor shooter is happening on your campus. On one campus alone, there were 30 calls. guy that said there is shooting going on and there was the sound of shooting or sounds of shooting in the background that's an elaborate hoax right right now this is sophisticated and clearly it's somehow coordinated i suspect they're all tied to each other the real question as we were saying before we came on is Is there a foreign actor here? And I think we can't rule that out. No, because that was one of my first thoughts on this. I don't know what this online group taking responsibility purgatory is. That's some sort of front. Maybe it's homegrown. But we've seen in the past adversarial governments messing with us trying to sow terror and discord and and.

fear. Right. They've done this with this exact or at least a very similar tactic in the past. So that should at least be near the top of the list for investigation, right? Right. And look at the potential federal crimes that are involved here. There's several, right? One of them is 18 U.S.C. 1038, which says you get a five-year... in federal prison if you just do the hoax you get 20 years if somebody's injured and you can imagine somebody running out of their dorm somebody tripping over something somebody freaking out and you get up to life in prison if somebody dies or a result of it what if what if a professor what if a person gets a heart attack and dies because they freak out right and so this is all the more despicable to me on the heels of the catholic school shooting i mean this is despicable it is but again i think he's on to something No, there's a purpose behind it. But in fact, a drier trend for us as we head through the rest of the week. In fact, I think as we head through Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, really very little chance of rain. It is amazing to me to watch the reaction coming out of Chicago. If ever there was a city. At least right now, that needs the National Guard, it would be the city of Chicago. But they are hell-bent on resisting any attempt from the federal government or from, more importantly, any attempt of Donald Trump to try to help them when it comes to finding crime. They had something in the neighborhood, I want to say 56 shootings, and I believe eight people killed. That's just over the Labor Day weekend, 56 shootings in Chicago over the Labor Day weekend. The police are overwhelmed. The city itself does very little, if anything, to punish criminals. They're like most other blue cities right now. But the cops arrest them and then goes to the court and is a revolving door. George Soros, who, by the way, got a direct threat from President Trump. Huh, mainly as it relates to demonstrations in these paid demonstrators, and he basically has warned George Soros and his son that he's watching them. I don't know what he intends to do about it, but he's watching them. I wonder if George Soros has anything to do with this announcement the president's going to have like at 1 o'clock this afternoon. Nobody has any idea what the announcement's going to be about. But then again, that's how the president gets our attention, right? So we'll all be trying to figure out between now and 1 o'clock what he's going to say, and then we'll all react to what it is he said. Anyway, we'll have some reaction, including the mayor of Chicago's latest statement. on getting help from Trump. You know, talking about Chicago and their need for help and some reaction to it from Janine Perra, who of course is the U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C. We have received credible reports that we have days, not weeks. before our cities see some type of militarized activity by the federal government. During the president's last public appearance Tuesday, he hinted Chicago could be next. Does everybody know Chicago is a hellhole right now? I'm willing to go to Chicago. You know, what's interesting about this, Shannon, is that... President Trump has literally changed the safety landscape in Washington, D.C. And I often wonder in answer to your question, whether, you know, who is the person who says, you know, crime is low enough for us to handle? Who decides what is acceptable? If we go from intolerable to unacceptable, does that mean we should pat ourselves on the back and say, let's just leave town? No, that's not what President Trump is about here. Washington was one of the most violent cities, not just in the United States, but in the world. So let's not, let's not pussyfoot around this whole thing. We've got individuals who are being shot, stabbed, beaten, and brutalized, and arrests are not being made. In the last year and eight months, 45 black. teenagers, minority teenagers, have been shot and killed with firearms. You know what the clearance rate is, Shannon? The clearance rate, meaning how many cases have been solved, is 29%. That means that 70% of the murderers of African American teens, all of them killed with guns, are still out on the street with their guns continuing to do what they do. And so for all those people who say, oh, crime is down. Isn't this great? That's nonsense. need is to recognize that the first order of government is a protection of its people. And President Trump is willing to make sure that D.C. has the resources, that D.C. has the determination. And all of us, both in the United States Attorney's Office, are doing the best we can to put together the most solid cases. And so far, we've had 1,526 guns taken off the street, which means they can't be used to shoot and kill.

other people. Last night alone, 76 arrests, five guns seized. If anyone has a problem with that, then, you know, they're not in compliance with 81% of the American people who think crime is a major problem in large cities. I think even in Chicago, if you were to poll the people of Chicago, I think the majority would be in favor of getting help from Trump and from the federal government. I mean, who would want to live on the south side of Chicago knowing that you can't put your head up inside your own home for fear of getting shot? That's how bad things have gotten. As for the announcement for the president today, 1 o'clock, there's crazy speculation. Wild rumors on the internet. Partly driven by President Trump's health, the absence from the public eye for a couple of days this last week sent... social media into a frenzy with people wondering, is Trump dead? I mean, they're wondering, seriously, they're wondering where in the heck he is? Well, you saw that bruising hand on his hand. Handshaking all day was the explanation that was given. I guess you either believe it or you'd known. Where is Trump? Trump is dead, trended on X on Friday. Several posts flooded the platform with users talking about the president's health after he's not seen in the public eye following a White House cabinet meeting on Tuesday last week. What, the guy can't do something, do virtually nothing for a couple of days without driving people crazy? Evidently. All right, so one o'clock, you know, he's going to announce he's resigning. No, he's not. No, I can assure you health. You'll have nothing to do with his health, nothing to do with him resigning. It'll be something else. But guess what? We'll be paying attention, won't we?
