A potential threat to the safety of President Trump discovered in Florida. Foxes Ashley Strohmeyer has details. The Secret Service is stepping up security at Palm Beach International Airport. This comes after an apparent hunting stand with direct sight lines to Air Force One was found in a nearby tree. President Trump boarded his plane on a smaller staircase as a precaution. Officials say Air Force One does not normally park in that area, but has been due to construction. The airport is located near President Trump's golf club. That's the site of last year's attempted assassination on his life. And discovery follows the conviction of a man who tried to assassinate Trump from a sniper's perch on a Palm Beach golf course just a week ago. Administrators around the country took to the street Saturday for the no king's protest, defying President Trump House Speaker Mike Johnson joining ABCs this week, calling it hate America protests. pretty violent rhetoric, calling out the president, saying fascists must die and all the rest. I mean, I don't think that's loving speech. I don't think that's friendly speech, and I don't think it's pro-American to say those kinds of things. Saturday was the second time since the president returned to the White House at the No King's rallies have taken place nationwide. Dozens were arrested in many different cities across the country this weekend. After more protests across the country, borders our Tom Homan is once again warning about dangers of escalating anti-ice rhetoric, which is getting more common now. Tom Homan says this rhetoric could lead to even more of the violence we've already seen. We've already had ICE officers targeted. Of course, water patrols out there helping. It's only a matter of time before one of us gets shot and killed or assaulted and killed. Terrell County Sheriff Thaddeus Cleveland says these radical leftists are just making things worse. These anarchists are creating a situation that are putting law enforcement at risk. They're putting those who may be in custody at risk. And they're putting innocent Americans at risk. He says leftist rhetoric against ICE agents who are doing their job inside the law is just fueling the political fire. Ethan Buchanan, News Radio 740, KTRH. The government shutdown drags on after lawmakers once again failed to reach a deal. Florida's Anna Paulina Luna says it's not just federal employees feeling the pain. Families are also missing out on vital support too. It's not just the military, but also the women, infant, and children program is actually set to run out of money also to mid-November. So they're definitely playing games with people's lives here, and it's strictly just political messaging. Republicans say the fix is a simple one, a clean funding bill. A new study shows almost 70% of Americans say they don't want to discuss politics at the workplace. When you consider how high the political temperature is these days, it's really not a surprise. Many years ago, it was easy for employees to have disagreements about politics, but there was a common civility. The current political environment where things have become so contentious, it can be hard to have these disagreements with coworkers. Workplace culture expert Joshua Evans says it's easier these days for employees to just avoid politics altogether rather than deal with the tension that political disagreements bring. And, of course, while Republicans press the compromise, speaking aboard Air Force One Sunday, President Trump said he supports health care reform, but not the Democrats version. They'll beat. No money given toward their crazy escalation of giving money to illegal aliens that came into the country totally illegally. I mean, they came in illegally. They want to spend $1.5 trillion with a T.

Senator John Thune says he'll push a bill this week to make sure federal workers and troops get paid during the shutdown, which is now the third longest in U.S. history. Agency that oversees the U.S. nuclear stockpile is sent to furlough most of its staff today because of the government shutdown. The National Nuclear Security Administration plans to send notices to 1,400 employees, leaving around 400 people to guard the stockpile. KTRH News Time 505. The Social Security Administration announcing the 2026 cost of living adjustment will be published October 24th. Americans rely on those benefits. It still have many questions amid the government shutdown. Economist Hank Lewis says it's a step in the right direction, but he fears that corporations could have an adverse reaction. People that are employing or not employing people, planning for layoffs or planning for expansion, uncertainty makes them think negatively, and it makes things move down in a negative fashion, economically speaking. Although, hey, we're still getting mail delivery. And by the way, I thought they were going to come back. Weren't they talking about cutting back a mail delivery? Not getting it down instead of you getting it six days a week, maybe getting it three or four days a week? I'd be fine with that. I would be absolutely fine with that. Why don't they, where are the cost-cutting measures that they said they needed to implement in order to be able to save the post office? I've never seen a single one. All I see are price hikes, and here comes another price hike. We're told starting, well, it already started. It started at midnight October the 5th for Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express, Parcel Select, and United States Parcel Service, Ground Advantage Services. Higher prices will remain in effect until Sunday, January the 18th. When they'll go away? That's highly unusual. For any government entity to raise the price on something and then it sunsets, I'm going to, because I am a betting man, I would probably bet that come January...

They say, well, you know, we're still having a hard time making ends meet. We need to make these increases permanent. The reason why they claim they're doing it now is to help cover the extra handling cost and bring prices for the Postal Services, commercial and retail customers in line with competitive practices. In other words, the other guys charge more, we're going to have to charge more. So why would you do it just temporarily? They claim it's to get through the holidays. I guess they don't have enough help. So anyway, here's what you need to know. The Postal Services deadlines for sending to addresses in the continental 48 states are, by the way. We're already talking about Christmas here. Wednesday, December the 17th for USPS Ground Advantage and First Class Mail. Thursday, December the 18th for Priority Mail, Saturday, December the 20th for Priority Express Mail. The prices, however, that part, priority mail and USPS Ground Advantage shipments. will increase 40 cents for 0 to 3 pounds, 60 cents per pound for 40 to 10 pounds, 95 cents per pound for 11 to 25 pounds, and a $3 increase for 26 to 70 pounds in oversized packages. So the prices are going up rather significantly. 5'10, tie for traffic and weather's together. It's so they can pay all those highly motivated gumption-filled people behind the counter there. I don't know what the turnout was like in the woodlands. It was, you know, I would say there were a few thousand people there. Of course, you know, the TV people are making sound like thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands. It was a decent turnout. But there was something about the crowd that, well, split this way. It wasn't very diverse. It was a lot of angry, older white people. You know, the angry, older liberal crowd, the ones that were protesting back in 1968 and 1970 and 1972, they're still out there. They're still out there, only this time I think most of them are getting paid to show up. More on that story coming up next. First, though, we've got traffic and weather. I'd hate to be a Mary Kay representative there because there wasn't a lot of makeup that would be sold with those. I'm just, I don't know, that's just an observation. Insure, I bet there was somebody who they're selling insure, I'm pretty sure. Let's go downtown. Now, this is weird. Billionaires, billionaires treading on all of us. Well, that's interesting. the billionaire networks that paid for all this, including some operated by people, well, you know, the George Soros network obviously involved with this, but even Warren Buffett, evidently. His network is involved in it all. Stamp out fascism. Oh, yeah, a lot of those, a lot of ice signs. A lot of older, and I do mean older, like 70 plus.

You know, white women in particular that they were there. You know, the ones that were, you know, were ultra-liberal hippie types in college. And those of us who were kind of liberal hippie types in college who eventually grew up and became capitalists and started making money and having families and sending our priorities in a different direction, but they never did. And then you flip over to how did the Democrat leaders, all of the most powerful Democrats in the United States, spend their day yesterday. They were at summer camp. singing campfire songs and being really ridiculous. One thing, though, I think is really kind of interesting. And by the way, I think it's wonderful that these people are getting out and moving around and marching. It's probably very healthy. A lot of these people look like they don't get out very much. I think that that's a very positive step. It's kind of part of the maha movement. Get them moving. Move around. It's better than maybe even better than pickleball. But I do think it's kind of interesting for a group of people that spend all their time yelling at us about, what is it, diversity, inclusion, and equity. Rice University's Mark Jay Jones says the big ticket item for all Houstonians, another attempt to lower property taxes. Proposition 13, which if passed, would increase the homestead exemption from 100,000 to 140,000 for all residents under the age 65. It's one of 17 constitutional amendments. As for the big seat on the ballot? The one that's at the top of everyone's mind is for Congressional District 18. That's to replace Sybuster Turner. Early voting ends on October 31st. Jeff Andy Biggs News Radio 740, KT. Reach. The Freeway, Texas Senate race appears to be up for grabs with new polls showing John Cornyn and Ken Paxton in a virtual tie. And Wesley hot about 10 points back. Political strategist Chris McGalas is the biggest factor in the race could be an endorsement from the president. With the non-Trump factor, if he does not jump in, it's going to go to a runoff. If Trump decides to jump in, that could push any of the three, even hunt, any of those three, well over 50%. In the money race, John Cornyn leads the PAC with more than $10 million in total campaign funds, while Ken Paxton, about $3 million and hunt $1.5 million. As the government shutdown continues, Democrats are sticking with their trillion-dollar health care plan despite pressure from Republicans to scale it back. Senator Tim Scott says it's all about power.

They are willing to sell out current constituents, like women, infants, and children. For what? For illegal immigrants, their future voters. This is a power grab. They're willing to shut the government down so that they can earn and gain more power. President Trump says the stalemate gives him a chance to scrap billions in what he calls wasteful welfare programs. The U.S. launched another strike Friday on a suspected drug-running boat in the Caribbean, killing three people tied to the Columbia's National Liberation Army. Secretary of Orp, Pete Hegseth, said that President Trump ordered the attack, which hit a vessel moving along a well-known narco route. The FBI looking into a hunting stand found overlooking the Air Force One landing zone in Palm Beach, Florida. Secret Service agents discovered it during a suite before President Trump's arrival this past weekend and said that it had a direct view of the restricted area. No suspects were found. Investigators did collect several items of interest. Thanks to action from the legislature. We now have a new office dedicated to bringing accountability to Texas universities. It'll handle any complaints regarding violations of the law by state schools. This was a response to complaints of DEI bans being ignored by public universities. This past session, we passed a law to create a watchdog to investigate complaints about universities ignoring our state laws or misusing funds. That's State Representative Briscoe Kane. He says this will keep higher education accountable when the legislature isn't in session. Our legislature in Texas, as may may know, it's very part-time. It's every other year. And so we do need somebody there in that interim to help us with this. The governor appointed Brandon Simons to lead the new office. He was previously the chair of the TSU board. Ethan Buchanan, News Radio 740, KTRH. The rainbow crosswalks in the Montrose area expected to be removed this morning. Governor Greg Abbott recently ordered transportation departments statewide to remove the symbols of political ideology from Texas roadways. KTRH News time is 535. Texas ranks number three at a national survey looking at the best states for brand building and for entrepreneurs looking to start up a business. Prism Public Relations Agency conducted the survey looking at all 50 states, zeroing in on brand building. State economy, taxes, and real estate. Economist Ray Perryman says he's not surprised Texas made the list and attributes that to Texas history. There's Texas fashion, there's Texas music. There's a lot of movies about Texas. We have a certain mystique, and I think that goes all the way back to our history as a republic. He also points to affordability. With no income tax and a relatively low tax structure compared to some of the larger states in the country.

Halloween spending is hitting new highs this year with Americans expected to shell out more than $13 billion on costumes, candy, and decorations. National Retail Federation says that's up sharply from last year's total, and candy alone is costing about 8% more. Apparently even Ghost and Goblins are not immune to the inflation. Kevin Arad locking in two years, $90 million deal with the rockets on Sunday, giving him the option to stay through 2028. Meanwhile, Houston will tip off its season tomorrow night on the road against the thunder in Oklahoma City. The Texans are taking the field for Monday night football tonight. Houston will visit the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field. Texans who are sitting in third place in the AFC South have won their last two. games. I wasn't brought up in a hunting household. If I had, I'm sure I would be. It strikes me as a lot. A lot of fun most times, unless you're doing what he's doing in the song, right? There's nothing coming by for you to shoot. But hunting deer, that's one thing. Hunting people is another. This hunters stand that they found outside of West Palm Beach Airport. You know, again, I'm not a hunting expert, but that doesn't strike me. A place where you've got planes flying in and out, doesn't strike me as a particularly good place to set up a hunter stand if what you're hunting is deer. Especially concerning the fact that the hunting stand is facing towards the tarmac and, you know, the place where Air Force One just happens to fly in and out of with President Trump every now and again. Am I the only one that's a little suspicious about this? I looked it up because I was curious, when does deer hunting season start in Florida? And West Palm is kind of like between two zones. They're either in zone A or zone C. I can't figure out which one they're in. But assuming they're in zone C, they have a muzzle loading season, October 18th, the 31st. The general gun season starts November the 1st. Usually I think that's hunting season in a lot of places is when you get into November. At least when I grew up as a kid of Michigan, that's happening. All the automotive plants would be shut down. Everybody would be shut down because they'd be out deer hunting at deer camp. I don't think this is the setup for somebody who's going to do that. Point being that I'm glad that the Secret Service is taking this seriously. I don't know if they'll have any luck at all figuring out who that hunter's stand belongs to. Hopefully it is just a hunter. You know, it's not up to us, I guess, to judge whether or not he thinks that's a good place to hunt or not. Although if he's that close to the airport, he would think it would be an illegal place to hunt. But anyway, if they can find out who set it up, maybe we can find out more about what the plan was. But if we go, if it's an innocent hunter situation, this thing will get enough notoriety that if it's an actual hunter, that hunter's going to come forward. Yeah, that's mine. That's where I hunt. If nobody comes forward, if everybody's quiet about it.

Then you have to wonder whether or not that that was a potential assassin's lair, somebody else who wants to take a pot shot at Trump. Because I don't think for a minute they're going to stop. I think they keep coming. I think they are so afraid of Donald Trump. I think that they just keep coming. And we have to be prepared for that. 540, time for traffic and weather together. We've already seen it with ICE, haven't we? Hey, good morning, Jimmy Grit, be on with you. No, we certainly have. You know, here in Texas alone, we've already had, what, three or four incidents, one down in Rio Grande Valley, one up in Dallas, and then just there, South San Antonio. So, yeah, this rhetoric continues, and it's putting not just law enforcement, you know, their lives at risk, but innocent Americans, those that we may have in custody, and then, of course, those who are really creating the chaos. So what's the answer here, other than toning down the rhetoric, obviously, which if the left was going to tone down the rhetoric, I would have thought they would have done it by now, wouldn't you? No, most definitely. And, you know, we've heard some talk about it, but as far as slowing down the rhetoric, calming down the rhetoric, but we continue to see these, you know, they call them protests. They're far from that. It's anarchy. And it's putting people at danger. And actually, you know, heck, there's probably more consequences right now from our own American citizens than there is a cartel. American citizens are more of a threat.

So I tell you, we're going to continue to see this happen. I'm not sure what's going to be able to quell it or stop it, but it certainly needs to. People are going to be. I like to say, Jim, that, you know, these agents and officers have shown a tremendous amount of restraint. There have been some situations. I know one agent from here at Sanderson that's been deployed to Chicago and the stories he's told, it's, it's, unlike we've ever seen before, it really is. Well, the only thing that's keeping us from anarchy is that we refuse on the right to participate in it. Do you ever foresee a time, though, where things could get bad enough, where we have no choice but to participate in it? Well, and we're still in the greatest country in the world, right, United States. I'm proud of being American. And that's exactly why President Trump's won this in the National Guard, not to go in there and add more fuel to the fire, but to protect these facilities to help the agents and officers that are out there protecting the facilities that are continuing to be targeted. I don't know that we'll get that far, but I certainly hope not. I certainly hope not, Jimmy. I hope not either. You may have heard the story out of Florida. I'm going to get your take on this. You know, it's all conjecture at this point, but they found a hunting stand right outside of West Palm Beach airport in direct line aside to where Air Force, one, uses the runway there. Coincidence? You know, with all the attempts that have already happened, including one previously in Florida, I think you have to look at that pretty seriously, don't you? Oh, 100%. Of course, he's utilized that airport, talking about the president, many times of foreign. I'm certain they've done security sweeps. You know, he's a man that's unfortunately hated tremendously. There's a tremendous amount of hate that's targeted towards him. You know, and we're seeing them ramp up the security, not just for the president, but even for within DHS. Roddy Scott, who's our commissioner, I know he's got a security detail, the USCIS, which is Customs and Immigration Services. They're all having protective detail because of all that we're seeing across the United States. You know, it's certainly been inflamed and we'll continue. The Secret Service says it was discovered during a security sweep. The FBI now leading that case, though no suspect has been tied to it as of yet. Demonstrators around the country took to the streets on Saturday for the no king's protest defying President Trump. House Speaker Mike Johnson joining ABCs this week, claiming the irony of the protest is pretty clear. If President Trump was a king, the government would be open right now. If President Trump was a king, they would not have been able to engage in that free speech exercise out on the mall. Saturday was the second time since the president returned to the White House that the No King's rallies have taken place nationwide. Dozens were arrested in many different cities across the country. Tom Homan is calling out the rhetoric from the radical left, which has led to protests that have consistently escalated to violence against ICE. He's warning that if it continues, it could get worse. The ICE agents, the War Patrol agents, they're regular people like us. They live in communities. They have kids. They did swear no to protect the Constitution of the United States and uphold the laws, and they are acting well within their outlined authorities. As former Border Patrol officer in Terrell County Sheriff Thaddeus Cleveland, he says this rhetoric and the radicals acting on it are just putting Americans and illegal aliens at more risk.

Democrats are holding firm on their trillion-dollar health care bill as the government shutdown continues while Republicans press them to compromise. Speaking of Board Air Force One on Sunday, the president said that he supports health care reform, but not the Democrats' version. There'll be no money given toward their crazy escalation of giving money to illegal aliens that came into the country totally. illegally. I mean, they came in illegally. They want to spend $1.5 trillion with a T. Senator John Thune says that he'll push a bill this week to make sure federal workers and troops get paid during the shutdown, which is now that it's the third longest in U.S. history. The NTSB is investigating after United Airlines flight from Denver to L.A. was forced to divert to Salt Lake City when its windshield cracked midair. The following day, two United Plains clipped wings at Chicago O'Hare. No major injuries were reported in either case. President Trump escalating his dispute with the president of Columbia. Foxes Ashley Strohmeyer has details on that. This after the U.S. military struck a seventh vessel in the Caribbean, allegedly carrying drugs linked to a Colombian rebel group. Columbia's president refutes the claim, saying it was just a fishing boat, and Trump called him an illegal drug leader and accused him of failing to stop drug trafficking. Trump says he will announce new tariffs on Colombia and cut U.S. funding. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth-F says that three people were killed in that boat strike. According to a new study, seven out of every ten Americans in the same survey, 45% of workers say they felt pressured to share their political opinions during informal conversations at work. So what's the solution? There is no silver bullet for political disagreement in the workplace. Some organizations may find certain things we're expects for them. Some other organizations may need to ban any political discussion in the workplace if it's become too much of a problem. Workplace culture expert Joshua Evans says just a few years ago people could have political disagreements in the workplace and still be civil, but thanks to rising political tensions and it's just not the case anymore. KTRH news time is 605. Seniors concerned that the government shutdown will affect their social security benefits, can breathe a sigh of relief. The department has confirmed that we'll be announcing the 2026 cost of living adjustment, October 24th, which helps, but more questions still remain. The original COLA date was October 15th, and Americans relying on those benefits want some answers. Economist Hank Lewis says that's positive, but he has two concerns. One, will they have enough qualified personnel to do the CPI evaluations? And then second of all, that they get the appropriations back in order so that those checks are sent out. He's also concerned corporations could cut workforce in response. And so the longer there is this uncertainty, the more likely it is to breed negative.

If they're looking to their left, they're trying to remember something. So look for the eyes darting to the right. Long pauses. Liars may stall or repeat your question to buy time. Because they got to think of the lie before they tell the lie. Voice changes. Listen for a higher pitch or breathless tone, usually caused by stress. Fidgeting. The poker face. All of a sudden, their face goes blank. No expression. Nothing. Eye dancing. If their eyes are all over the room, it's usually a sign of panic. Overcompensation. A liar has a tendency to exaggerate. Puff things up or act overconfidently in order to try to get away with something. Crossed arms. I've heard Lela. Crossed legs.

Anything that can signal defensiveness. If you've seen crime shows where they're interviewing criminals and they're being interrogated by the police, you see all these signs of people trying to make things up. For smiles, too many filler words like, well, basically, again, time killers while they try to think of whatever that lie is. Some people are pretty good at it. I try only to tell white lies. Usually if I'm lying, it's because I'm trying to spare somebody's feelings, not because I'm trying to be a terrible person by lying. I mean, if you think somebody's wearing, like if I think Elizabeth is wearing something really, real ugly, I'm not going to, well, I take the back. Sometimes I'll be truthful with her about that, but I'll be very diplomatic about it. Let's put it this way. When I lie, I'm a diplomatic liar. 6'10. Time for traffic and weather together. And that's what he needs to be in a conservative Republican primary in Texas. So, you know, these polls, I'm not so sure that the last couple of polls that have come out have been exactly spot on because they basically have Ken Paxton and John Cornyn pretty darn close. And Wesley Hunt, who's somewhat, you know, new to the entire state. But he's looking pretty good because I would think his name ID would be dragging a little bit more than it is. So it's fascinating. And as you state, of course, the incumbency of John Cornyn, you know, the foundational support he gets from PACs, lobbyists, all those people that do business with the government. He's a sitting United States Senator. That's a pretty big deal. He's got tons of money. And the question here is, can he... somewhat change the mind of Republican primary voters and tell them that I am more conservative than you think. That's the challenge here. And, you know, it's going to be very interesting. We still got months and months left. So that's years in a lifetime in politics. But it's a very fascinating. story and a fascinating race. Well, the thing that makes the Wesley Hunt Canada see interesting to me is I think the main reason why he got in is that he sensed and I wonder what you're sensing on this. Ken, Ken Paxton's baggage is all personal baggage, you know, based on, based on the relationship he had with his wife. And there are a lot of conservative voters out there. They get nervous about that and don't want to vote for somebody based on that. So you've got John Cornyn who's not conservative enough. You've got Ken Paxton as personal issues. And now you've got Wesley Hunt, who as far as I can tell, doesn't have any of those types of issues to worry about. Yeah, and, you know, the elephant in the room, of course, is the most powerful, the most polarizing figure on the planet is Donald Trump. If Donald Trump gets involved here and says, I am for Ken Paxton, it's over Ken Paxton wins. If Donald Trump says, you know what, he's been good to me, I don't agree with him all the time, but I support and endorse holdheartedly John Cornyn. It might be over, okay? And if you were to go with Hunt, I think Hunt could easily make a runoff, maybe even win straight out. So will Donald Trump get involved? I don't think that Trump is going to endorse Ken Paxton. I don't think he is. So Kent and Ken Paxton has got an uphill battle. Yeah. This just might turn out that it could be Hunt and John Cornyn in a runoff. I don't see unless Trump comes in and gives a strong endorsement and raises a bunch of money for a candidate, one of these three, they'll win outright. But if Trump does not endorse, I think we're looking at a...

Generally, these constitutional amendments don't cause a large number of people to turn out to vote. In Congressional District 18, there'll be a spike. But by and large, you're looking at voter turnout somewhere in the mid to high single digits of registered voters. A backlog of voter registrations could also be a problem. New campaign finance reports show Senator John Cornyn has more than $10 million in total campaign funds compared with about $3 million for Attorney General Ken Paxton and $1.5 million for Congressman Wesley Hunt. But political strategist Chris Bagala says that's not what will decide the race. Money matters, but not as much in a Republican primary. Trump is the figure in all the politics. So if Trump comes in strong, it could be good night I rain. If he does nothing, then it will go to a runoff it looks like. The government shutdown continues as lawmakers have yet to pass a bill to reopen and fund the government. Alabama Republican Senator Katie Britt on CBS's Face the Nation, echoing Republican calls to end the shutdown. We need to reopen the government. Democrats need to come to the table and do the right thing. Just as I've been traveling the state this weekend, I have heard countless stories of people who are not getting a paycheck. Democrats demanding that health care subsidies be extended as part of the bill, and they are set to as they are set to expire this year. Republican leadership says that they're willing to negotiate the issue, but the government must reopen first. The FBI looking into a hunting stand found overlooking the Air Force One landing zone in Palm Beach, Florida. Secret Service agents discovered it during a suite before President Trump's arrival this weekend and said that it had a direct view of the restricted area. No suspects were found, but investigators did collect several, quote, items of interest. President Trump blasting Colombia's leader Gustavo Petro on truth social, accusing him of fueling drug production. The president warned that if Petro does not stop at the U.S. will step in and it won't be done nicely. Australia's prime minister meets with the president today with critical mineral high, with critical minerals high on the agenda. Fox is Jared Halper and has more on that. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is looking to strike a deal with President Trump that could include access to critical rare earth minerals and continuation of a submarine partnership. The Pentagon is considering the future of August, an American, UK-Australian submarine pact. Australia wants to acquire eight nuclear-powered subs. Albanese could offer up a U.S. partnership for his country's rare earth minerals, in addition to increasing mining in the U.S.

US, the Trump administration is also looking to diversify the global supply chain, describing a China versus the world situation at the White House. Jared Halpern, Fox News. Texas Southern University's board chairman, Brandon Simmons, has been appointed to lead a new office designed to hold universities accountable for participating in DEI or other illegal practices. One of the things this really does is it sets up a system. for people to make complaints when universities are breaking our law. We're using taxpayer dollars to advance things like DEA programs, which have no place there. And state representative Briscoe Kane, he says that this will help public university accountability in off years when the legislature isn't in session. KTRH News Time is 636. Economist Ray Perryman says it's no surprise attributing the state's economic growth and affordability along with the state's influence and media. television shows that have been about Texas and movies. Barryman also points to a higher concentration of media outlets based in Texas, supported by new technologies paired with no state tax and a healthy state economy. All right, this story. is one i'm going to do a question the day on it i don't know honestly what the response is going to be because i think there's still a stigma involved for people who say they've seen a ghost or have experienced something that that is paranormal that they can't explain And if you were to ask me 20 years ago, what I thought about ghost, I would probably laugh at you, but I don't laugh anymore because I had it happen to me. And once you have something like that happened to you, when you hear a disembodied voice that cannot be explained talking to you. Or you have something happening in your home like wall shaking, door shaking, that there is no logical explanation for. You can see outside the door. There's nobody outside the door, but that handle is going up and down like somebody's trying to get into your house. You have something like that happened. It turns you in a bit of a believer. And that's the situation I find myself in. But where would you suppose you would find the most amount of ghosts or the most stories about hauntings?

Interestingly enough, New York came in number one. Of course, do you think that's got anything to do with the setting of Ghostbusters, which was set in New York City? 81 ghost settings per 10,000 people. Texas is number two, followed by Louisiana, California, Utah, Florida, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Nevada, and Washington. Georgia, evidently, is the least haunted. Only six sightings per 10,000 people. Maine is next, followed by Nebraska, Indiana, Connecticut, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Iowa. Now, I'm looking at those states, and I'm wondering if there's a pattern, and there doesn't seem to be. You know, I was thinking, for example, there are some people who don't believe in ghosts from a religious standpoint. I thought that maybe some of the more southern states. you would have less sightings because people wouldn't attribute that to something like a ghost because Georgia came in as least haunted. But those other states, Maine, that's about as far away from the south as you can get. Nebraska, Indiana, those are Midwestern states. Connecticut and New Jersey, those are northeastern states. So it's kind of all over the map. So here's my question. Have you ever experienced a ghost or what you thought was a ghost? Do you believe in ghosts? Or do you not believe in ghosts? He's saying that it's not enough just to address the political revolution at the Democrats and the left wage. He asked a more fundamental question, where do they get this power to do this? It's 702 on News Radio 740 KTRH. Our top story this hour, a potential threat to the safety of President Trump discovered in Florida. The Secret Service is stepping up security at Palm Beach International Airport. This comes after an apparent hunting stand with direct sight lines to Air Force One was found in a nearby tree. President Trump boarded his plane on a smaller staircase as a precaution. Officials say Air Force One does not normally park in that area, but has been due to construction. The airport is located near President Trump's golf club. That's the site of last year's attempted assassination on his life. And that was Fox's Ashley Strohmeyer report.

Demonstrations around the country took to the streets on Saturday for the no king's protest defying President Trump. House Speaker Mike Johnson on ABCs this week calling it hate America protests. I mean, we have video and photos of pretty violent rhetoric calling out the president saying fascists must die and all the rest. I mean, I don't think that's loving speech. I don't think that's friendly speech and I don't think it's pro-American to say those kinds of things. Saturday was the second time since the president returned to the White House that the No King's rallies have taken place nationwide. Dozens were arrested in many different cities across the country, including San Antonio. We've seen some. After more protest across the country over the weekend, borders are Tom Homan once again, warning about the dangers of the escalating anti-ice rhetoric, which is getting more common now. Tom Homan says this rhetoric could lead to even more of the violence we've already seen. We've already had ICE officers targeted. Of course, water patrols out there helping. It's only a matter of time before one of us gets shot and killed or assaulted and killed. Terrell County Sheriff Thaddeus Cleveland says these radical leftists are just making things worse. These anarchists are creating a situation that are putting law enforcement at risk. They're putting those who may be in custody at risk. And they're putting innocent Americans at risk. He says leftist rhetoric against ICE agents who are doing their job inside the law is just fueling the political fire. Ethan Buchanan, News Radio 740, KTRH. Democrats are holding firm on their trillion-dollar health care bill as the government shutdown continues on Republicans press them to compromise. Speaking aboard Air Force One Sunday, President Trump said that he does support health care reform, but not the Democrats' version. They'll be. No money given toward their crazy escalation of giving money to illegal aliens that came into the country totally illegally. I mean, they came in illegally. They want to spend $1.5 trillion with a T. Senator John Thune says he plans to push a bill this week to make sure that federal workers and troops get paid during this shutdown. It's now the third longest running shutdown in U.S. history. The agency that oversees the U.S. nuclear stockpile is set to furlough. Most of its staff today because of the shutdown, the National Nuclear Security Administration plans to send notices to 1,400 employees, leaving about 400 people to guard the stockpile. A new study shows almost 70% of Americans say they do not want to discuss politics at the workplace. When you consider how high the political temperature is these days, it's really not a surprise. Many years ago, it was easy for employees to have disagreements about politics, but there was a common civility. The current political environment where things have become so contentious, it can be hard to have these disagreements with coworkers. Workplace culture expert Joshua Evans says it's easier these days for employees to just avoid politics altogether rather than deal with the tension that political disagreements bring. KTRH News Time 705. Many popular websites have been experiencing technical issues this morning and may not be fully functional. The issue began overnight with Amazon's web service, the cloud computing company that provides the online infrastructure for a number of sites and services.

According to Down Detector, users of Snapchat, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Alexa, Venmo, and more have been experiencing the issues. Social Security Administration announcing the 2026 cost-of-living adjustment will be published October 24th. Americans relying on those benefits still have many questions amid the shutdown. The economist Hank Lewis says it's a step in the right direction, but he fears corporations could have an adverse reaction. People that are employing or not employing people, planning for layoffs or planning for expansion, uncertainty makes them think negatively, and it makes things move down in a negative fashion, economically speaking. The economist says regardless of political affiliation, accurate data is most important. Kevin Durand just made it clear that he's in Houston to stay. He's sounded a two-year extension that could keep him with the rockets through 2028. Grant says he feels natural to be a rocket and hopes to finish his career here. Sounds like one of my college professors. 723 is the time here in Houston's morning news. Well, Governor Greg Abbott wants to do something about that. I think he's enough of a realist to know that without some sort of oversight, these DEI programs and other things that the state has tried to weed out of our higher education are going to continue to exist as long as they can get away with doing it. So the idea behind having this new office to deal with this is to make sure these things get investigated. On Thursday, he appointed Brandon Simmons as Texas first higher education ombudsman. Michael, I think this is a good first step if you really want to police this because somebody has to investigate because if they don't, it will just continue. Yeah. Mr. Simmons is a great choice. He was educated at Berkeley, Stanford Law School. He was a venture capitalist and corporate lawyer, far from a hotbed of conservatism. An ombudsman, we have plenty of them throughout the state and insurance and other areas of law, health care, and he serves as an intermediary between the public. And the government helps avoid a slew of lawsuits, but is in a position to provide information on what's permissible and what's not permissible. This is provided for the underlying legislation last year. It's not a new development. The governor has picked a non-political person, you know, to implement and oversee this matter. That's a rare thing these days, a non-political person. Let's say he gets a complaint, he investigates the complaint, he finds the complaint is legitimate. Take it from there. What happens next? Okay, further investigation, they're subject to a fine and are required to remedy the situation. Within a certain reasonable time period, I think it's six months. It's important to bear in mind too that, you know, Texas has several, I think, the leading top tier universities in the country. We didn't get there by micromanagement, micromanaging curriculum. These matters can still be taught. You know, universities can still consider them in recruitment. But what's gone is the mandatory, mandatory training. And we're going back to based selection of leaders and administrators in our, you know, public school systems. And what happens? Yes, this is corrective action taken and a fine suspension of state funds if you don't follow the law. Okay, fair enough.

At the end of the day, it sounds like what you're saying, though, is that fundamentally this doesn't really change a higher education in Texas. It's not going to change the curriculum. It's not going to prevent people from taking these types of courses. It's just that nobody's going to be forced to take them anymore. That's correct. And then also in the administration, who gets hired, who doesn't? Who gets admitted to the schools and who doesn't? Those kinds of decisions are going to go back to what they should be, which is merits based. instead of forcing these kind of training on everyone or mandatory sort of videos and such you have to watch in order to keep your jobs. So it's many, many states are doing this, so the Texas is taking the lead and actually, you know, providing an ombudsman or I should say an intermediary to help explain the law to universities, students who have questions. Rice University's Mark Jay Jones says the big ticket item for all Houstonians, another attempt to lower property taxes. Proposition 13, which if passed, would increase the homestead exemption from 100,000 to 140,000 for all residents under the age of 65. It's one of 17 constitutional amendments. As for the big seat on the ballot? The one that's at the top of everyone's mind is for Congressional District 18. That's to replace Sylvester Turner. Early voting ends on October 31st. Jeff Andy Biggs News Radio 740. KT.R.H. The three-way Texas Senate race appears to be up for grabs with new polls showing John Cornyn and Ken Paxton and a virtual tie. Wesley Hunt about 10 points back. Political strategist Chris Bagalas says that the biggest factor in the race could be an endorsements by President Trump. With the non-Trump factor, if he does not jump in, it's going to go to a runoff. If Trump decides to jump in, that could push any of the three, even hunt, any of those three, well over 50%. In the money race, John Cornyn leads the PAC with more than $10 million in total campaign funds. Ken Paxton, about $3 million, hunt $1.5 million. As the government shutdown continues, Democrats are sticking with their trillion-dollar health care plan despite pressure from Republicans to scale it back. Senator Tim Scott says it's all about power. They are willing to sell out.

Pete Hegseth said President Trump order the attack, which hit a vessel moving along a well-known narco rounds. The FBI, meanwhile, looking into a hunting stand found overlooking the Air Force One landing zone in Palm Beach, Florida. Secret Service agents discovered it during a suite before President Trump's arrival this weekend, and they say that it had a direct view from the restricted area. No suspects were found. Investigators did collect several items of interest. Now, thanks to action from the legislature, we now have a new office dedicated to bringing accountability to Texas universities. It will handle any complaint regarding violations of the law by state schools. This was a response to complaints of DEI bans being ignored by public universities. This past session, we passed a law to create a watchdog to investigate complaints about universities ignoring our state laws or misusing funds. That's state representative Briscoe Kane. He says this will keep higher education accountable when the legislature isn't in session. Our legislature in Texas, as may may know, it's very part time. It's every of the year. And so we do need somebody there in that interim to help us with this. The governor appointed Brandon Simons to lead the new office. He was previously the chair of the TSU board. Ethan Buchanan, News Radio 740, KTRH. The rainbow crosswalks in the Montrose area are being removed this morning. Governor Greg Abbott recently ordered transportation departments statewide to remove the symbols of political ideology from Texas roadways. KTRH news time is 735. Texas ranks number three at a national survey looking at best states for brand building and for entrepreneurs looking to start up a business. Prism Public Relations Agency conducted the survey looking at all 50 states, zeroing in on brand building. State economy, taxes, and real estate. Economist Ray Perryman says he's not surprised Texas made the list and attributes that to Texas history. There's Texas fashion, there's Texas music. There's a lot of movies about Texas. We have a certain mystique, and I think that goes all the way back to our history as a republic. He also points to affordability. With no income tax and a relatively low tax structure compared to some of the larger states in the country. country. They cannot be trusted. They obviously have a murderous, dangerous ideology. Their sole purpose is to exterminate Israel and Jews, and Americans, by the way. And the only way for the people of Gaza to have peace is for the bad guys to stop doing this. They agreed, we thought, to do it. So we'll have to see how this plays out in the coming hours and days. I mean, what you're seeing on play out on the world stage is a return of peace through strength. Sorry, and President Trump is the one that has brought that back. And he's able and willing to have strong conversations, not just with our adversaries, but with our friends as well. And he speaks directly, and he spoke directly to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. They have a long relationship and one of trust. And he told them, enough is enough. And I think that was a precipitating factor in getting us to this incredible point that we are now a truly historic. peace deal that just by sheer force of his personality, President Trump was able to push through. And I think he greatly deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. In fact, Speaker Ohana of the Knesset and I have joined forces to try to collect as many signatures as we can from other speakers and leaders of parliaments around the free world to join us in co-nominating President Trump for the next Nobel Peace Prize. There's no one's more deserving than that. Well, let's see first, though, if we really do have peace. Because as long as Hamas is around, there won't be any peace. And we'll be going back constantly trying to take care of this problem.
