Now, this shooting involved an off-duty Cleveland police officer? Yes, it did, Bill, and Cleveland cops are now investigating that shooting last night involving one of their own. Officers responding to the backyard of the Park Place Apartments on East Boulevard just before 8 o'clock last night. That's where they discovered a 26-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the hospital. That's where he died. It's believed the man and an off-duty Cleveland. Police officer got into a verbal altercation before shots were fired. Investigators say they found a gun at the scene which belonged to the man who was fatally wounded. Investigators, however, have not clarified the role of the off-duty officer involved in the incident. He was not injured. The Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office is now taking over that investigation. A Cleveland couple learning its fate for causing the death of a father of five last year. 36-year-old Marvin Atkins sentenced to 15 to 20 and a half years in prison. prison. 36-year-old Anne Marie Jay Clayton got three years. Both had pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter for the death of Norman Duncan in April of 2025. Prosecutors say the two got into their car and drove up on the sidewalk and struck Duncan, who had come to the aid of his son, who was taking a beating to the head with bricks during an altercation between two 12-year-old boys. I'm Brian Nengel. Cuban Americans are welcoming the announcement that Raul Castro has been indicted by the DOJ over his alleged role in shooting down two planes carrying humanitarian aid in 1996. Four U.S. pilots were killed. Miami-Dade College Professor Jorge Malagon Marquez wants change in that small nation. We all want change in Cuba. We want freedom for Cuba, but what we don't want is a negotiated freedom that leaves much of the brutal regime intact.

Speaking to reporters on the tarmac, as he returned to Washington from the U.S. Coast Guard commencement Wednesday, President Trump said this is huge for Cuban Americans. The military boarded their... released a vessel suspected of trying to break the blockade of Iranian ports. In Iran, the crackdown on dissent continues. Two people executed on charges of creating a group to disrupt the country's security. Jonathan Savage, Fox News. The Center for Disease Control has started Ebola-related screenings at some U.S. airports have met an outbreak in parts of East and Central Africa. Americans arriving from Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, or South Sudan, who will be screened at U.S. Air Force. airports, including O'Hare International here in Chicago, where the CDC says the danger is low. Amid temperature checks, contact tracing and other testing requirements, with non-citizens coming from those African areas being denied entry in a preventative push to keep Ebola out of the U.S. The screenings now in effect for 30 days, and travelers are being urged to also pay close attention to symptoms of Ebola that include high fever, vomiting, and unexplained bleeding. We'll check flights. First driving and cost of gas. Let's see, 476. But as for their regular stuff, premiums almost a dollar more in some cases. John Madrease, don't waste your money, consumer guy at News 5 on gas prices, and especially cars, trucks, SUVs that at least say they need premium gas, John. It's amazing, Bill. The number of cars these days that say premium fuel, or premium fuel recommended. And the reason is a lot of cars have gone to four-cylinder engines for the turbo on it instead of the big gas-guzzling V6 and V8. So they're making more fuel-efficient cars and they tell you premium fuel. And so now you go to the pump and, you know, you pull it to Speedway and, you know, the regular is what? Or 50 right now. And then the premium's $5.50. You've got to spend another dollar a gallon for the premium. So we went to a mechanic and we sat down and then we checked what AAA says. And we said, you know, what's going on when your car says premium? And what everyone says is that find out if it's premium fuel required or premium fuel recommended. There's a huge difference. A lot of cars with these four cylinders, they say recommended because they want to give it more power. You know, they want it to perform better, handle better, have quicker pickup. And so they say premium fuel recommended. If that's the case, you don't have... to use premium if it's recommended. Now, a car that says premium fuel required, big difference, you better use premium because you may find the engine underperforming. It may start to knock, make a sound, in long term, you might even cause some damage if it's... required. Some of the German cars are big on required. BMWs, Mercedes, Audi's, not all of them. Volvos, not all of them require it, but a bunch of them do. And if it says required, I'd say pay that little extra bit of money. I also wonder about the warranty. I mean, if you're, you know, you're driving something under a warranty and you're using the wrong gasoline, you cause some damage. Maybe you've got some outcome there. You're not going to like it. Exactly. You're under that manufacturer warranty, let's say, for the first four years, and you're putting regular in a car that's a premium required. They can tell that when they open up the engine to find out what's going on. And they're saying, you know, somebody's been using real cheap gas, a little octane gas. So find out if it's recommended or if it's just, you know, actually required. The other thing is, if it's recommended, you can try regular what a lot of people do and what I have done. is I've used the mid-grade. I kind of go back and force between the mid-grade and the regular. Because the mid-grade's a happy medium. It's a blend, actually, of regular and premium. And so a car that recommends premium, try the mid-grade. Yeah, it'll cost a little bit more than regular, but at least you'll keep your car running happy.

Talk a little flying this morning. Aviation expert Jay Ratten up on a couple of things as we get closer and closer to a Memorial Day weekend, of course, and a lot of traveling here. Good morning. With that in mind, let's talk some TSA. Number one, here Cleveland Hopkins, a big investment. They're making with some new lines for TSA here, just in time for the busy summer travel season, Cleveland.com. reporting it's a $4.8 million project doubling the number of screening lanes from two to four out of Cleveland Hopkins and try and get us through a little bit fast. That's good news, right? It's great news because what they're doing is recognizing that the demand for travel is going to be growing. And, of course, you have technology issues sometimes where something breaks down. So when you've got a backup plan, which is extra aisles, then those lanes are really going to come in handy. And everything is designed to try to enhance. the experience of the traveler. We hope down the road that we can have people walking down a hallway that the screening is building on both sides next to us. So that when we get to the end of that, if they need to further screen us, they can by just pulling us off to the sign. If not, you might see a screening process where you don't break stride. You just keep walking, and you keep walking. If they stop you, they're going to rescreen you. You know, that technology is out there. We'll have to see if it's going to work or not. But that's one of the reasons that they're constantly tweaking things. And Bill if I can jump ahead in Boston, they're doing that there because Boston's always had a problem with congestion on the curbs. They've got the... TSA checkpoints inside the airport that tend to be more congested, and they're thinking, what can we do? And that's when they said, hey, let's start something where we're doing the screening for the airport off-site, where people come to a location that we can screen them there, put them on a bus as a screened, what we call a sterile passenger, drive them straight to the gate, and then have them board the plane from there. And the thought is that would work out very well. It would alleviate congestion. And look, it's going to be something we're going to try and see if it works. And if it's okay from a safety standpoint, a security standpoint, and things like that, it could actually help the flow of traffic inside the airport. Because obviously we can't make Boston bigger. We can't make LaGuardia bigger. But if we can do some of these things to help. The inside screening, Bill, if it works, it's going to be something. We're going to see another location. Without a doubt. Speaking of TSA, Cleveland Hopkins, at least 15-minute wait right now, so don't cut it too close if you're getting out. Weather looks, it's showers between us and Atlanta. Investigators discovered a gun near the victim, which they say belonged to him. He was rushed to the hospital where he died. Investigators have not exactly clarified the involvement of the off-duty officer in that incident. The name of the deceased has not been released. It was a very scary trip out of... in Lake Uri this week for a small group of folks. Three people were pulled from the water on Tuesday after they fill in while on their way to Kelly's Island. A 45-foot Coast Guard boat was used to locate and rescue two people, while a helicopter from Detroit had to be brought in to locate the third person who was treading water before they were pulled up by the crew of a towboat. Look, I've always enjoyed the books. You did the three-day series, which were great. Rescue the American Spirit, rescue constitution, rescuing the public. And this one is entitled The Case for America Argument on behalf of our nation, 250 years of this grand experience. As you put these others together, was it kind of the thought leading to this one? Brett, I'm just curious. Well, thank you, Bill. Thanks for having me back. I did think about this. And as we're getting closer to the anniversary of 250, I thought, why not make a case in front of a jury of our peers? with evidence and testimony and using all the knowledge of digging into those six presidents, you know, George Washington, Ulysses S. Grant, Peter Roosevelt, FDR, Dwight Eisenhower, and Ronald Reagan, using those voices and then contemporary voices like Condoleezza Rice and Ken Langone and Tim Schreiber, David Rubinstein, different political perspectives, but making the case for America in different ways. And, you know, I think that this is important because if you think about it, civics has kind of left us as far as education and with our kids. History is not a focus. I'm of the mindset that we should embrace our history, not erase it and learn from it. This is not a book about sugarcoating things or saying everything's great. It looks at the Kevin Warsh and the mistakes.

but also gives people ammo around the water cooler ahead of the 250th. Well said. And you know this is still a grand experiment, isn't it, Brett? It is. You know, Connoisse-Rice said it perfectly. She said this is... Not a perfect nation, but we are striving to be perfect all the time. And she talks about her own story, how she's born black girl in the segregated south in Birmingham. She knows and was friends with the girls who were killed in the Birmingham bombings. She goes through the segregated South, educates, her family pushes her through school, she succeeds, and then she is sworn in as Secretary of State by a Jewish woman, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and they both turn to each other and say, this can only happen in America. And it's those kinds of things that I think every once in a while we need to take a breath. and go to 30,000 feet and realize how good we have it. Well said. She's Browns fan too growing up, so that was always great. She is. Yeah, I mean, her. Hey, let me ask you about Ronald Reagan, because more, you know, present time, you know, I think a lot of people connect with their first president that maybe they voted for. My parents were Robert F. Kennedy Jr. people. And then, of course, you know, that party kind of changed a bit. But for me and so many of us, it was Reagan and the picture and what he thought of this country, Brett. Yeah, and he was really optimistic. You have a funny story about freedom of the press. in the book. And I was a student council president of my high school, and we got an award for the high school in Atlanta, Georgia, and went up to the Rose Garden. And President Reagan was presenting this education award to schools around the country. And the secretary of education, Bill Bennett, was alongside. And I thought this was the biggest thing ever. I shook his hand, President Reagan's hand, and all the press was in the back of the Rose Garden. And as he's turning to leave, at the time Robert Bork's Supreme Court nomination was up on Capitol Hill in jeopardy. And Sam Donaldson from ABC yells, Mr. President, is the Bork nomination going down? And Reagan turns and says, over my dead body. And then other press guys yell, Bill Plant from CBS and others. As student council president, I'm sitting there watching this. I'm also the editor of the paper back home, the school paper. And I am so livid. I go back and I write this scathing editorial. Press needs etiquette and how yelling at this event really disrupted everything and it was horrible.

Now, you can imagine where the story goes. Fast forward 20 years, I'm Chief White House correspondent in the Rose Garden yelling at President George W. Bush about some, you know, a rock war thing at the end of an education event in the Rose Garden. So my point was I learned about freedom of the press in different ways early on. Great story. The case for America, an argument on behalf of our nation, Fox is Brett Bear for another minute. Two quick things to get you out of here. Talking about freedom of the press, though, had to be a stunning reminder. Great reporting from China on that trip, by the way, Brett. Yeah, thanks. And you know what? As I say, we should realize and relish what we have. If you travel the world, especially different countries that have different politics and different ways that they run, when you step back on American soil, it does feel pretty good.
