The simplicity of silver and gold is that you can literally hand it to a person in exchange for goods and services. So you don't need to get your app and that you need to have internet and that you need a bunch of codes. One of the products that we make is one tenth ounce silver. I felt that there was a void. If there's a financial calamity, I would see people needing not jet skis and motorboats, but basic essentials like a dozen eggs and whatever is the smallest. piece of silver that you have, that's what you're going to pay for those items. Silver, Dave, thank you very much for coming on. Meet the Experts. Spring has sprung so it's time for you to think about you. Better strap yourself in. It's time for the Howie Cars Show. Maine Governor Janet Mills dropping her bid for the U.S. Senate saying this in part, quote, While I have the drive and passion, commitment and experience, and above all else, the fight to continue on, I very simply do not have the one thing that political campaigns unfortunately required today. And that's financial resources. That is why today I have made the incredibly difficult decision to suspend my campaign for the United States Senate. Adios, macho. Hi, everyone. Maura Healey here. I'm here with my friend Governor Mills. I am proud to endorse Janet. She's the only candidate in the race for the proven record of standing up to bullies like Donald Trump and winning. Going to the end of the line. And enjoy your life after governor because I don't think you'll be in elected politics. Live from the burner less lethal pistol studio, it's Howie Carr. Bye, Bing. Hi. Hi. I'm endorsing Janet Mills because she's the only candidate in the Democrat primary for Senate who does not have a Nazi tattoo on her chest or anywhere else on her body. Not that you want to think about that. 844-542. Hundreds of Eric Swalwell supporters attempt to clawback donations amid sexual assault claims. More than 200 donors are seeking refunds. They want to get back a total of $1.5 million. We'll fight hard.
Eric Swalwell's gubernatorial campaign, Eric Swalwell, had about $4 million in cash on hand when women first began coming forward with allegations against him early this month. And Eric Swalwell made himself the treasurer of his campaign committee. Oh, no conflict of interest there. Giving himself full control over the $4 million. He continued. to solicit donations after news of the alleged assaults broke, raising nearly 200 grand more. Boy, how dumb do you have to be? Talk about, you know, giving money to a doomed cause. But he needs the dough because federal disclosures show that Eric Swalwell has up to $100,000 in student loan debts. He still owes money on student loans in his 50s. He's been a congressman all these years, ran for president. He has between $30,000 and $100,000 in credit card debt and a mortgage he owes up to $5 million on. How do you have a salary of about $200,000? Now he doesn't have a salary period, but he had a salary. of 200,000. How do you get a mortgage for $5 million on a salary of $200,000? I don't think you or I could. I'm going to guess. Or maybe we could, but would say, I could, I can't make the nut. I'm going to default. I'm going to, you know, they're going to foreclose on me. So this is a good, this is a great, a great proud Democrat. 844-542-42. Time now for the chump line. Hey, Holly. Do you think that Graham Platner is also a member of the CluClux Clam? Get it? He's an oyster furor. That's a good one. I like that. Well, we have it down in Boston, we have the mayor who runs No Whites Need a Play, Kwanza parties at the public building known as the Parkman House. We call her, she runs the Wu Klux Klan. So we can have the Ku Klux Klam up in Maine. I like that.

Not being forced back to the office, Jeffrey Tubin's coworkers are very happy they don't work at Fidelity.
You don't see Jeffrey Tubin as often as you used to, and that's a good thing. Damn, Jeffrey Tubin? At least Pee Wee Herman was in an X-rated movie theater. I'm just saying. That O.J., what a card he was. Let me be perfectly clear. I was against the Nazi tattoo before I was for the Nazi tattoo. Yeah, if he doesn't have a problem with the Nazi tattoo, why did he try to cover it up? If he didn't have a problem with the Nazi tattoo, why did he say he didn't know what it was before he said he did know what it was and it was just PTSD? I think it's safe to assume that Tim Walz would not have volunteered for World War 11. That guy, could there be a bigger fraud anywhere? I guess he's going to address the, he's the keynote speaker at the Maine State Convention. Now it's going to be an even bigger middle finger to the taxpayers of the state of Maine. now that Janet Mills is out. It was big enough. It was a huge, it was a huge middle finger with her in the race. Now it's even more so. This may surprise you, but I just learned that the last words of John Wilk's booth on his deathbed were, it was just a botched joke.
You know, I like the way the Democrats, you know, the motto of Virginia, and actually what John Wilkes booth. yelled when he jumped out of the out of the box where he shot lincoln onto the stage and broke his leg six emperor taranus that's the their their motto in virginia thus always to tyrants and so after they voted this this through after they disenfranchised the republican half of the state of virginia they said this is just we're living up to our motto six semper tyrannas So they had to become tyrants in order to defeat the tyrants. Just like in Vietnam, they had to burn the village to save the village. If they rescheduled a dinner, they should just hire J.B. Pitsker to guard the entrance. Nobody's getting by him. He's on a diet, okay? He's taken off a few pounds. Do you think he's taking those new shots? What is it called WaveGo or Wavegovi or something? Or you can take the pills or you can take the shots. He's going to need to take some kind of animal tranquilizer version of the shots to get down under 400 pounds. Hi, Howie, Governor Patrick calling, Wow, that's a new one, that you allegedly lost $10,000 from your old bank, which was magically refunded to you by the new bank. Surely that was on the level. Just like that free table from Leachmere, that tax-free California radio income, that sports car you, ah, one, that letter of immunity from Carmen Ortiz, the Brown University Postcard, and, of course, a low-digit license plate. You cereal grifter, we're going to be fine. Everything the Small Deval mentioned was totally legit. So bleeping legit it was and is ridiculous. Michelle Woolen, Maura Healey want to impose congestive pricing to reduce traffic. That may not be necessary when they're finished driving all these jobs out of the state. You know, I love the fact. that they want to reduce driving into the city by American citizens who pay taxes and abide by the law. And at the same time, simultaneously, they are giving out driver's licenses to 300,000 illegal aliens who don't work and are on welfare. How does that make sense? Make it make sense. I mean, even by Democrat standards. So you don't want people who work for a living driving, but you want people who don't work for a living and who commit crimes driving around. Okay. See ya. I'm driving out of the state. That was your last chump line message. Thank you for calling Howie Carr. You chump.

Tux Trucks, Trux, GMC, your commercial truck headquarters. Visit Trucks. tux trucks, gmc.com, tuxtrucksgmc.com. Jared, what's the poll question? What are the results thus far? Today's poll question, which you can vote in at howie carshow.com, is who would you vote for in the U.S. Senate race in Maine? Susan Collins, Graham Platner couldn't vote for either of them or not sure. Susan Collins, I don't care what she said today about the Iran War. I mean, again, she's protecting her electoral prospects in an increasingly crazed left-wing state. So I'm voting for Susan Collins, or I would be. Yeah, 64% of the audience says Susan Collins. 27% said they couldn't vote for either of them. 4% for Graham Platner and 5% for not sure. All right. Lee Zeldin is the director of the Environmental Protection Agency, former congressman, gubernatorial Canada in New York. He was being questioned by Sheldon White House yesterday, or as he calls him Sheldon White Club, because he belongs to all these whites-only, protestant-only clubs in yachting clubs in Rhode Island. And so this is Lee Zeldin dressing down Sheldon White House who's probably related to John Forbes-Carrie in some way. Cut 16. So we just want to stick to the truth. We want to stick to the science. And if you don't agree with them, you don't follow their logic. Well, they'll want to vilify you. But as long as we stay true to these facts. It's good to go. And I'm not going to take morality lessons from people who join all white country clubs. That is so great. He put out a tweet afterwards. I told Senator Sheldon White Club today, I won't be listening to or caring about any of his lessons on morality knowing he joined an all-white Rhode Island country club. I believe he joined two, as a matter of fact. I'm also done, said Lee Zeldin, with the likes of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Al Gore, John Kerry, and the rest of the lying caballed and make stupid climate predictions plunder tens of billions of tax dollars, enrich their well-connected allies, and are committed to strangulating out of existence entire sectors of our economy. Climate alarmist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wants to be taken seriously while also insisting the world is imminently about to end due to climate change. Just under five years remain on her nutty January 2019 prediction that only 12 years of life are left on Earth. Al Gore is now speaking publicly about his concern with global freezing. I didn't know this. After decades of grift talking about global warming.
Within the decade, there will be no more snows of Kilimanjaro, said Gore in 2006. There's still snow on Kilimanjaro year-round. Gore also predicted in 2009 ice-free Arctic summers within five to seven years. John Kerry warned in 2009 that the Arctic would be ice-free by 2013. These people are dishonest, power-hungry hacks. said Lee Zeldin. The green new scam is dead. Amen. I hope he's right. All right. 844-508 says, Zelda got White House and the crazy old blue-haired broad. Are you referring to Rosa DeLaro, an 85 years young from Connecticut in the same week? Yes, he did. All right. But my number if people want to get a hold of me is 978-948-8-189. 978-948-9-48-8-1-89? Yep. 8189. Okay. Great. And I got to, Roscoe is in New York. Yes, yes. Sadly. Sadly. And apparently Tina, Tina takes him to Central Park on the weekends. But he's picked up some kind of allergy. I guess it's a bad year for allergies for dogs. And another one of our neighbors, her kid has a dog, and he's having problems too. So what's going on with the allergies? Maybe we'll have to get more on this when we come back. We're not one and out of time. But it is a bad year. Is that right? Yeah, a lot of tree pollen. And it started really early. So, you know, that last week in March, I started seeing dogs with hay. fever signs and dogs with atopic dermatitis, which is from inhaled pollens quite often. And so, yeah, it's been quite a year for it. Very bad. So think about what you would recommend to people that have problems during the break. And again, we're with Dr. Matt. If you have any questions, give us a call. His number, if you need, his assistance, is 9789-48-8-189. I'm Howie Carr.

Actually, I'm in Florida right now for another day or so that I'm coming back. But in the burner... studio in Needham is Dr. Matt Callahan, the house of the Howie Car Show, and he's here to answer your questions about your pets. And if you'd like to talk to him during the week and visit him, visit his clinic or seek his advice. His number is 978-948-8-189. That's 978-948-8-189. So if people, their dogs are suffering a little bit, I guess does it apply to cats too? Can cats suffer from hay fever and pollen? Yes, they definitely can. Cats are more indoors, so they suffer from it a little bit less. And cats just get less allergies. So typically we're talking about dogs, but I see a cat now and then. So what should, I mean, people don't want to take, they say, well, you know, the dogs just suffer it a little bit, but I don't want to run up a big vet bill. What should they, what can they get them over the counter? Yeah, so, I mean, there's two basic types of allergy when a dog inhales pollen. The vast majority of dogs wind up getting something like atopic dermatitis or atopi, and people get that too. They'll get a rash on their face and a rash on their forearms. But most dogs get that. few. Roscoe is one of them that can get true hay fever. And for a dog, like Roscoe, that's a little bit dangerous because he does, you know, he does, his breathing isn't great to begin with. He doesn't have a nose to put it in layman's terms. And so for dogs like that, typically I'm recommending. Benadryl or diphenhydramine and about a milligram per pound. So Roscoe's about 21, 22 pounds. So we gave him a 25 milligram Benadryl. And that seemed to help him pretty well. So, yeah, that's what we typically give for hay fever. There's other ones that's Claret and works pretty well, too. And so it doesn't seem like living in lower Manhattan, he would have a problem with.
tree pollen. Yeah, but he's going to Central Park. He's picking it up there. So if he's going to any park, he's going to see trees there. And pollen is in the air, so it doesn't have to be in a single location. He doesn't have to be under the tree. All right. So I... Would he have the same problem if he were still here in Florida? Well, they develop allergies to the things that they're exposed to. So, you know, there's New England pollens, and then there's, you know, I had a totally, when I lived in Athens, George, I had a totally separate allergy problem than I had when I was up here. So, yeah, they, but over time they get sensitized to what they're exposed to. All right. Richard, you're next with Howie Carr and Dr. Matt Callahan. Go ahead, Richard. Yeah, doctor, two questions. Can dogs see in the dark and do they lose their vision when they get older and can they also notice color? Okay, that's a complicated one. So dogs can see better in low light than humans. They cannot see in the dark. Dogs, there are rods and cones in a dog's retina and in our retina too. So cones are for color, rods are for black and white, and lights, they're more plus or minus light. Dogs have more rods in their retina than cones. So we probably have a richer color palette in our vision, but we couldn't probably see less at night than a dog can. So that's kind of how it works. Dogs that go, dogs can go blind from retinal disease or lens disease or corneal disease. You must see blind dogs all the time, though. Oh, yeah, pretty frequently. Yeah, they do fine. Yeah. Yeah, they got this thing called The Sense of Smell. Yeah, that's a lot better than ours, right? Yeah, I mean, they do very well. They hear very well, and they use scent, and they memorize their location, so you don't want to put them in a brand new location without some guide services for them. But in the house and in a yard, they do just great, yeah. And they don't get down in the dumps either. They're like, oh, yeah, I'm blind. Let's move on. Where's lunch? That's true. Thanks for the call, Richard. Jim, you're next with Howie Carr and Dr. Matt Callahan. Go ahead, Jim. Thanks for taking my call, Howie. Dr. Matt, I've got two rescue springer spaniels. One of them, we presume, is about seven years old. His teeth are horrible. We've been trying those powdered supplements to get them to help clean the teeth. What's the best plan for cleaning and keeping the dog's teeth clean? Well, if they're really a nightmare, then they probably need to, you need to see your veterinarian and get their teeth cleaned. We do a fair amount of that because if there's any true like gum disease or tooth disease, that can get fixed at that time. So if the teeth are really bad, that's what I would say. Chewing is a great help for dogs, so chew toys.
release saliva and newly released saliva is high in the enzyme amylase. And amylase is the sugar enzyme, and mama's right, it's sugar rots your teeth. So in that sense, chewing stuff does help. It's not what they chew, it's that they chew. There are other enzyme-based treatments. There's a company called K9 Enzymatic Toothpaste that makes several very good products. And then there's a company called Pet Labco that makes a couple of dental products that I really like. Do you have to, his dog, the one that he's worried about is seven years old. I mean, do you have to put the dog under? Anesthesia, full bore anesthesia. So at what point is that not a good plan for the dog's health? I have anesthetized 18-year-old dogs to clean their teeth. Really? Yep. Yeah. Kind of risky, isn't it? Age is a secondary factor for me. It's general health is the greater factor. This 18-year-old dog was otherwise healthy. But sometimes even if they're not, their teeth present such a huge problem that you really have to sort of say, okay, I'm going to in some ways sort of roll the dice. But the veterinary anesthetics are exactly the same as the human anesthetics. So if we went to Mass General, they have the exact same stuff as we use in dogs. So it's not kind of like it. It's the exact same stuff. Now, at what point do you pull the teeth, like with Gooner? Yeah, so if we're looking at teeth for pulling, either they just don't have any bone support for the tooth, and they're loose. In the case of this, Jack Russell Terrier, he had teeth that I could only describe as like piano keys. You know, they're all. And so if they're in that shape, they've just got to go. Once upon a time, they tried to save them, but as the pendulum swings back and forth, I may not know exactly where the pendulum is. right now but i'd pull them if they're loose yeah just pull them out they don't need them you know it's not like they're out there hunting for their lunch so you know they um they do fine without teeth 781 says well dr matt have office hours closer to the studio i'd like to bring loki back but it's a long drive to the north shore um i see it i generally see appointments at my practice And the reason being is I have my whole support staff there. I have the places. I know where everything is. It just makes life easier for me to see them. Absolutely. Yeah, it's all there. So I apologize. I, you know, I. I am always fascinated and very happy when people come from a long distance. We have clients from Maine. We had a client for years that flew her dogs up from Virgin Gorda to come. I think she did other things, by the way, but she flew her dogs up to get vaccinated and looked at. You really are a great vet, I must say. You take great care of Roscoe. You took great care of Gooner when he was alive.
844-542. If you need to make an appointment with Dr. Matt, his number is 978-9-48-8-8-189. Jim, you're next with Howie Carr and Dr. Matt. Go ahead, Jim. Is that me? Yep. Oh, Jesus, Holly, yeah. Howie, I work on the islands out in Casco Bay. and I've been at your house, so let's go off point. But anyway, my dog, Golden Retriever, will not stop eating her feet or biting on her feet. And we've tried everything. It's freaking, it's been a fortune. Yeah. What is she on right now or what have you tried? Well, we're doing the, well, we did the farmer's market food. We've done all making your own food. Okay. I have no idea what the... I have no idea about... Yeah, so... We've been talking about allergy, and this is one of the manifestations of allergy. So veterinarians typically call atopic dogs, dogs with the disease atopic dermatitis. We call them face rubbers and footchewers. And you've got a foot chure. So usually these dogs, you know, periodically throughout the year may need medication. The common things are Apoquil, Cytoplane, some dogs even prednisone. But also dogs, once their skin is damaged, might need an antibiotic or an antifungal because now their feet are infected. So you really need to, you know, if you're not happy with your vet, find another because usually, I mean, we can control allergy and dogs really quite well. The last thing that you can do right now if you want to do it is bathe your dog. It really can reduce the itch in these guys. But you have to be. And it really can make a mess, too. Absolutely. I always sort of get a laugh when I see. one of the dermatologists who are great people, by the way, so I'm not making fun of them too much. But they say, you know, baby their dog three times a week. I always want to raise my hand and say, do you own dogs? Jim, is your dog out on Great Diamond? No, I was just on Great Diamond. No, no, my dog, when I had the Nufi, I used to bring her out to Great Diamond with me. Because Great Diamond, you know, Dr. Matt, Great Diamond is just, it's in the city limits, but it's really a wild place. I mean, I can imagine there's all kinds of weird stuff in the grass out there.
including ticks, which I want to get to at some point. Thanks for the call, Jim. Good luck. So I've got a story here from a couple of weeks ago. Tick season is back. Here are five things to know. I think ticks are bad this year, too, aren't they? I always say Tick, every year is the worst year for Ticks for somebody, but it seems to be a generally bad year for Ticks. Yeah. We started seeing ticks very early, and we had a dog with like six or seven of them this afternoon. Really? Yeah. But wasn't on tick control, you know, that's the thing. They've got to go on tick control, fleeing control. Tell us, give us what people should do for the, to keep their dogs from having to go to a vet for the ticks. Yeah, they don't need to see their veterinarian for fleeing tick meds. It. I'm not against it, but they don't have to. The sort of the three that we generally recommend are the old-time topicals, which is frontline and advantagex, and then the orals, which are Cridillo, Nexgard, and Brevecto, and then there's the caller, Sorresto. All of which can work, you know, there's a price point for each one of them. If you ask me personally, for most dogs, I would recommend the Sorresto Collar. I don't recommend the Sorresto Collar. You know, we had a client. that came in with their two Labradors today, and that was a no, because they grab each other by the collar, and I don't want them to chew off their Sorresto collar. But Sorresto lasts for eight months, so as Ron Popil once said, you set it and forget it, and it's relatively inexpensive per month, and it's very effective against both fleas and ticks. Are ticks worse when there's a lot of moisture in the winter? Ticks actually like a snowy winter, I think, because they're protected from the weather. So if it's, you know, that... Ticks, as primitive as it is, they have a decision-making algorithm based on length of day and ambient temperature. So if they're under the snow, it's 24 hours of darkness and 32 degrees, no matter what the temperature is outside. So that's probably better for their survival than snowless, highly variable winters because they can't figure out what to do. All right. We'll take some calls. We've got some more calls when we come back from the break. But Dr. Matt, what's your phone number if people need your services during the week? Yeah, people can reach me at the Ipswich Animal Hospital, and my number is 978-948-8-189. All right. And if you can't get on the line, you can text a question to Howie at 617-213-1066. One more segment with Dr. Matt the vet. If you have a question, 844-500, 4242, or text Howie to 617, 213, 1066. 617. Dr. Matt, I have a 16-month-old pug. We're giving her a simpatico trio. Are you good with that or is the caller better? I think Separica Trio is actually a pretty good product. It also has heartworm preventive in it. My only, and it's a mild... rebuke about Samparica Trio is it it's one of those products that say apply topically, but it's transdermal. So it's more like the orals where you're actually putting it in their body, which I'm not necessarily against, but Samparca Trio is a very good product. I like all the medications in it, and it does heartworm. Another one says 857. When I put my dog on Sorresto, he got sick. Could it be caused by the collar? Yeah, absolutely could be caused by the collar. Every single product that we sell, every single product out there has some side effects, and they're not for every dog. So if you want to know if it is, put it on again, and if he has the same reaction, move on to something else. John, you're next with Howey Carr and Dr. Matt. Go ahead, John.
Hi, Howie, and hi, Dr. Matt. I enjoyed this segment that you have on here. Thank you. Thank you, John. Yes. We have an orange tabby female. She's a wonderful cat. She has a broken maybe two millimeters off her. I'll call her her canine teeth, the large one. Yeah. Are there people that actually can do something with that? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. The veterinary dentists are pretty much every bit as sophisticated as people dentists. You know, they can, you know, yeah, almost all the guard dogs have titanium implants in their mouth because they're, yeah, because they break them off in training, and they want to be a little bit intimidating when a dog shows his teeth and four of them are made of titanium. I'm going to remember that the next time I go through security in Mar-a-Lago. But cats can have stuff done to their teeth, too. They can have. can have them repaired and they can have them pulled and so there's lots of stuff you can do how much would it cost it is um since i don't do some of those things i don't know the cost but it would be many thousands of dollars to fix your cat's teeth yes so if it's not bothering him i don't you know i kind of be do mine based on symptoms If they've broken it off high enough, then they're going to expose the pulp, and that really does have to get fixed or pulled. But secondly, if it's not bothering the cat, it usually doesn't bother me. Thanks for the call, John. Good luck. Lindy, you're next with Howie Carr and Dr. Matt, who you can reach at 978-948-8-189. Go ahead, Lindy. Yeah, Holly, thanks very much for your time. A quick question for the doctor. I had a beautiful border collie that died of what they called Cushing's disease. I know it had something to do with the tour, Terry, but I don't know. However, why or any way to prevent that? Yeah, so Cushing's disease is caused usually by a brain tumor, a very small benign brain tumor in their pituitary, which makes a hormone called ACTH, adrenic corticotropic hormone, which tells the adrenal glands, which are down by the kidney to produce cortisol. It just doesn't participate in the feedback mechanism, so it makes a lot all the time. Cushing's disease is usually a chronic disease. Dugs can live with it for a number of years, but eventually it does catch up with them. So it can be controlled. There's also adrenal cancers that can cause it too, and that may have been likely in this situation. Thanks for the call, Lindy. Paulette, you're next with Howie Carr and Dr. Matt. Go ahead, Paulette. Hi, I have a chocolate lab. She's seven. I've noticed just this week that when she wakes up. initially she's kind of hesitant moving favoring one of her paws but like after 10 15 seconds she's fine I mean out in the yard she chases squirrels like a puppy yeah um is it is it white I know ACLs are an issue I'm starting to give her bone broth I give her collagen shoes to work on supplements blueberries
Yep. What do I need to watch out for? So I definitely would have her evaluated by a veterinarian at this point because there's so much you can do. I mean, here's the crazy thing is we cannot cure arthritis. At least we can't cure it right now because it's a structural problem at some level. But there's so many things you can do to ameliorate it. The first and most important is weight control, bunches of supplements work, and bunches of medication work. All right, good luck, Paulette. One last time with your phone number, Dr. Matt. 978-9-48-8-189. Thank you, Dr. Matt. See you next month. I'm Highway Car. Campers, the annual event you've been waiting for is here.
