I applaud Jerome Powell. I mean, on this show, many times I criticize the Jerome Powell for going along with this false narrative that inflation was transitory. But over his tenure of his career and now in the close of his days as a chairman, he's upheld himself properly and done his job as the Federal Reserve chair maintaining the independence of the Fed, which is to a great worth to all of us.

Jerome Powell said, hey, we see these spikes that are coming as a result of fuel prices and it's worrisome. But it doesn't necessarily worry us so much that we're going to raise rates to combat it because what can happen is rates will kick in after the oil shock goes away.

the very, very low level of job creation. If you adjust what has been the trend job creation over the past, let's say, six months, if you adjust that for what we think, our staff thinks, is the overstatement due to over accounting, effectively there's zero net job creation in the private sector.

For the record, I don't think we've had a good Fed chair since at least Allen Greenspan. Right? We have one bad Fed chair after another. And Jerome Powell is not worse than the rest of them. And he's just as bad as the rest of them. And really, the Fed is kind of worthless.

Host / other voice

the debate here, I really think, is where is neutral and how accommodative are we right now? I think that's the underlying battle that's going on at the Fed and how accommodative do they want to be in order to not stoke kind of the flames of inflation.

Host / other voice

I think they're divided because there are different signals that are that are out there in the economy you've got a slowing uh labor market slower hiring you had a downward revision of over two million jobs of previous release in that but they have not tamed inflation they still worry about the ongoing impacts and instability and anxiety uh from inflation over that and so it was a one of the most um divided votes from the Fed that we've seen in a very long time.

the things Jerome Powell says as far as going forward so there's been many times when the fed announces a quarter rate cut and because of the comments of Jerome Powell our rates actually went up as a result of it

Jerome Powell, says it was done to help stabilize the economy. My colleagues and I remain squarely focused on achieving our dual mandate goals of maximum employment and stable prices for the benefit of the American people.

Host / other voice

the Fed did cut interest rates, although, again, is usually unanimous. It wasn't. There definitely is dissension in the Fed. And the chair said that he is looking at rate cuts because the economy needs some help.

The Bill Handel Show (KFI AM 640)9:39
Host / other voice

I asked Jerome Powell if today's interest rate cut would help those struggling with housing affordability. And he acknowledged there is weakness in housing and that today's rate cut is unlikely to be enough to bring relief to the housing market soon.

Jerome Powell

Conditions in the labor market appear to be gradually cooling and inflation remains somewhat elevated. In support of our goals, in light of the balance of risks to employment and inflation, today the Federal Open Market Committee decided to lower our policy interest rate by a quarter percentage point.

Host / other voice

I like different viewpoints coming to the table. Now, a lot of people in the market could get worried about that because it seems it could take on the perception that the Fed doesn't know what they're doing and there is a lot of argument.
