The mayor of Arcadia, California, resigning after prosecutors say she helped push pro-China propaganda at the direction of Chinese government officials. The DOJ charging the mayor of Arcadia, California on Monday, with one count of acting in the United States as an illegal agent of a foreign government. 58-year-old Eileen Wang resigning from her position and agreeing to plead guilty. Beginning in 2020 and continuing through at least the end of 2022, the DOJ alleges Wang and her then-fiance, Mike Sun, a Chinese national, ran U.S. News Center, a site presenting as a legitimate news outlet, but allegedly used to publish pro-China content under the direction of Chinese government officials. In February, Sun, who also worked on Wang's election campaign, sentenced to four years in prison for his role in the scheme, Wang elected to the city council in November 2022, serving as mayor on a rotating basis. Arcadia is an L.A. County city, where Asian Americans make up nearly 60% of the population. In one June 2021 example, prosecutors say a Chinese government official sent Wang pre-written articles for U.S. News Center. including an essay denying genocide and forced labor in Xinjiang, the western Chinese region at the center of Beijing's crackdown on Uyghur Muslims. Within minutes, Wang allegedly posted the article to the site, then sent the Chinese official a link to the piece. The Chinese official responding, quote, so fast, thank you, everyone. Wang's lawyers releasing a statement this week emphasizing that the alleged misconduct took place in her personal capacity, not as an elected official, and putting the blame on her former fiancé. From the statement, quote, events in Ms. Wang's personal life, including her trust and love for apparently the wrong person who ultimately led her astray, require her to step away from public service. She apologizes and is sorry for the mistakes she has made in her personal life.

Director Kash Patel briefly addressing the allegations in his opening statement, dismissing them as baseless and pointing to a series of FBI stats, he says, show major progress under his leadership, including stopping four terrorist attacks last December alone across California, Pennsylvania, Texas, and New York. Kash Patel also pointing to the Bureau's work, protecting children. We've also seen unprecedented progress in protecting our most vulnerable, our children. In 2025, we located more than 6,300 missing kids. That's a 30% increase from 2024. And we arrested more than 2,000 child predators and human traffickers in 2025. That's a 17% increase in 2024. We also wiped out 4 million pedophile accounts off the dark web entirely. And we also focused in on the 764 network, those who especially target our youth and our vulnerable online. The most heated exchanges coming with Senator Chris Van Hollen. Multiple reports, including reporting by the Atlantic, have alleged episodes of excessive drinking, unexplained absences, and behavior that concerned current and former FBI and DOJ officials. You have publicly denied those allegations and filed a defamation lawsuit. So today, as you testify... before Congress? Is it your testimony that those allegations are categorically false? Unequivocally categorically false. So there have been no occasions during your tenure when FBI personnel were unable to promptly reach you? Absolutely not. You can ask my entire workforce. Kash Patel there referencing Senator Chris Van Hollen's 2025 trip to El Salvador to meet with Kilmar Obrego Garcia, the then-deported Salvadoran National Democrats branded as just, quote, Maryland man, despite the Trump administration identifying him as an MS-13 gang member, wife-beater, and alleged human trafficker. Photos from the meeting showing margaritas on the table, though Senator Chris Van Hollen maintains the drinks were placed there by Salvadoran officials and neither man touched them. Republican Senator John Robert F. Kennedy Jr. of Louisiana later stepping in to give Kash Patel room to defend his travel. A temporary ban on federal Medicaid payments to planned parenthood and other abortion providers set to expire this summer, as President Trump signals Republicans may not have the votes or the will to extend it. On July 4th of the last year, President Trump signing the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the bill narrowly passing through reconciliation. That's a special budget process allowing legislation to bypass the Senate filibuster and pass with a simple majority as long as it meets certain budget rules. Included in the law, a one-year provision blocking Medicaid payments from going to certain abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest such provider. That restriction set to expire on July 4th, meaning unless lawmakers act, federal Medicaid dollars, meaning your money, could once again flow to Planned Parenthood and other abortion clinics covered by the provision. President Trump, Monday in the Oval, asked if he wants Republicans to use reconciliation again to extend the ban. Before the Big Beautiful Bill, Planned Parenthood receiving roughly $800 million a year in taxpayer funding, primarily through federal health programs, according to Fox News. At the time, the Planned Parenthood CEO, Alexis McGill Johnson, warning the funding loss could force roughly 200 clinics to close. Ultimately, 51 of Planned Parenthood's health centers closed across 18 states in 2025, as some Democrat-led states announced new funding. to help offset the loss of federal dollars. Now, Congress preparing a new reconciliation package, President Trump setting a June 1st deadline for that bill to reach his desk. Republican leaders hinting at a slimmed down package, focusing on border security and immigration enforcement. The Washington Examiner reporting House Speaker Mike Johnson is not considering extending the Medicaid funding ban for Planned Parenthood in this bill. A terrifying scene out of Cambridge, Massachusetts on Monday afternoon, a man armed with a semi-automatic rifle firing roughly 50 to 60 rounds at pedestrians and vehicles as he advanced on foot down a busy roadway along the Charles River outside of Boston. Two people and at least a dozen vehicles, including a police cruiser, struck during the rampage. The victims, two men, now hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Authorities identifying the suspect as 46-year-old Tyler Brown of Boston. The campaign of terror coming to an end as a state trooper, along with a former Marine, moved toward the suspect, opening fire. Middlesex County District Attorney Marion Ryan at a press conference yesterday describing what happened next. Both the civilian and the trooper fired their weapons and that suspect was struck multiple times in the extremities. The suspect was then treated on scene by those same officers who'd been attempting to end the situation. He was transported to a Boston hospital where he is being treated for gunshot wounds to the extremities. The attack sending people scrambling in fear for their lives, one woman telling a local NBC affiliate, the former Marine who helped stop the shooter, first saved her life. A man came around his car and pulled open my car door and made like a barricade. He had a gun and he told me to run and I ran and then I just ran as fast as I could. DA Ryan declining to name the Marine for privacy reasons, but crediting him and the trooper with ending the attack within minutes. Ryan outlining the charges and the status of the investigation. Mr. Brown is in custody at the hospital. He's going to be charged with two counts of armed assault with intent to murder. possession charges with respect to the weapon, as well as a variety of other charges as we unfold what took place exactly. And we have a chance to speak to the many, many people who were out there. Boston.com reporting on Brown's extensive rap sheet prior to Monday's assault. According to the outlet, Brown was on probation for firing multiple rounds at Boston police officers in May 2020.

Despite prosecutors requesting a 10-12-year sentence, Judge Janet L. Bernie Sanders sentencing Brown to five to six years with credit for time served. Boston 25 News reporting, Brown was on both parole and probation supervision at the time of this latest shooting, stemming from a long list of prior offenses, including armed assault with intent to murder, firearms charges, and witness intimidation. According to parole board documents obtained by the station, Brown had been released from jail last May to serve the rest of his five to six year sentence under parole supervision. A Massachusetts parole officer reportedly contacting the Boston PD about an hour before the shooting, the officer raising concerns after a phone call with Brown, in which Brown self-reported relapsing into drug use and said he intended to end his own life. Brown had been released from a local psychiatric hospital on Friday. The DA saying on Monday, investigators did not find a connection between Brown and any of the people he targeted in the attack.
