I'm Josh and Chana with The Five Things You Need to Know for Wednesday, October 15th. President Donald Trump says phase two of the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas has begun. But in a post on Truth Social, he adds that, quote, the job is not done when calling for the release of all the dead hostages in Gaza. So far, only eight of the deceased hostages have been released, and there is growing fury in Israel over the delay. And two Israeli sources say one of the bodies returned last night is not that of an Israeli hostage. with one saying this was likely a misidentification and not done intentionally. Israel's defense minister called the lack of progress a failure to uphold commitments. Meanwhile, Israeli officials announced they were considering keeping the primary entry point for humanitarian aid. The Rafa border crossing closed. The UN also says that Israel confirmed only half of the aid trucks, about 300, would be allowed in today. And on the topic of Hamas disarming, Trump struck a bullish tone yesterday and threatened to forcibly disarm the militant group if they refused. If they don't disarm, we will disarm them. And it'll happen quickly and perhaps violently. But they will disarm. Do you understand me? Now to Brussels, where a meeting between NATO defense ministers is getting underway. Officials are discussing how they can ramp up their response to Russian aggression to Ukraine and other European countries. U.S. Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, has lauded the increase in weapons sold to NATO from the U.S. Firepower. That's what is coming. We expect it is coming from NATO. And they have in those commitments. Now those commitments will soon translate into capabilities. It comes as the White House prepares to welcome Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday, where the possible sale of American long-range Tomahawk missiles, which have the ability to hit deep into Russia, will be high on the agenda. Here's what Trump said about the upcoming meeting. I have the president coming in on Friday, and I know what he has to say. He wants weapons. He would like to have tomahawks.

Another attempt by GOP lawmakers to pass a stopgap funding bill has been blocked by Senate Democrats. Yesterday, Democrats like Senator Chris Murphy said they're responding to their constituents who want an extension of enhanced Obamacare subsidies. They're worried about their premiums increasing, the pressure that I get. And frankly, I think the feedback for a lot of my Democratic members is that this is a fight worth having. but Republicans don't want to engage on the issue until the shutdown ends. And while it continues, so do the legal battles over layoffs. Yesterday, the Trump administration said that more than 4,000 employees were being laid off, but it changed some of the figures of those being let go within the affected agencies. The updated numbers were disclosed in court filings, which came a day before a federal judge in California is set to hold a major hearing over a request from the unions for an emergency court order halting the layoffs. In speaking of California, Los Angeles County has declared a state of emergency to give financial help to residents struggling because of immigration rates. Over the summer, the raids ramped up, spreading fear in immigrant communities and making many limit their outings. Federal agents have rounded up people without legal status to be in the US, from home depots, car washes, bus stops and farms, and some US citizens have also been detained. Yesterday's declaration allows the LA County Board of Supervisors to provide rent relief for tenants who have fallen behind because of the crackdown. It also means that state money can be funneled for legal aid and other services. A new investigation is being launched into the Texas floods. We'll tell you more next. Priceline negotiator. It's me, the Priceline negotiator. We don't need the jingle twice. What about a third time? Stop it. This is about vacation inflation and how price line negotiates amazing deals on hotels, flights, and rental cars. Seems like you just said it. Yeah, but I didn't mention that you can save up to 60% off hotels in the Priceline app. Time to be the tagline. Fine. No one deals more deals than... Priceline! Please stop. Priceline. Tushay. Price line. Price line. A group of Texas lawmakers are investigating the circumstances of the catastrophic July flooding in the state. At least 136 people were killed in central Texas, including 27 young campers and councillors at Camp Mystic. Texas House Speaker Dustin Burroughs says that while progress has been made to bolster safety in the face of similar situations, the quote, magnitude of this tragedy demands a comprehensive and thorough review. The timeline for the investigation hasn't been given yet, but we do know that representatives from Camp Mystic and others involved in the floods will be invited to testify. And that's all for now. Our next episode drops at noon eastern.
