234 segmentsWelcome to Wind Tucson on this amazing Thursday. I don't know about you, but I have some branches on the trees after the storms over the last few days. And I don't know about you, but when it rains here in Tucson, I don't think a lot of the drivers know how to drive. Just saying, not saying I drive better. But it's important to pay attention and to understand. you know, there's, when it rains, the roads are slick and slow down a little bit and make sure your car's running okay because the summer's the worst time that we have on our cars. And I just want to thank our new sponsor. I laugh when we're listening to the ads for perfection auto. I have to say, I was talking to the owner this morning, Mike Emery. There's a lot of people that have gone to Perfection Auto, so they already know their name is a... perfect, perfect name for the work they do. And they take all kinds of cars. They work on old cars and new cars and it doesn't matter the brand. They just love taking care of cars. And my husband, who just got his truck back, he thinks he's got a brand new truck. And it's, I think it's a 2020. So it's not that old. But he uses the truck for, you know, going and getting feed for the horses. all those things. So what they did is make it look like a brand new truck. They take such good care. And I have to say, I am so impressed with the work that they've done, and I've got to get my Jeep over there. I put a lot of miles on my Jeep driving all over the state. But Perfection AutoWorks. They, from the moment you get in, make an appointment, they take care of it in a timely manner, and they just go the extra effort. And you can trust them. And I'm really excited that they are sponsoring our show because we need to have good local businesses working together. And we need to support those businesses because Pima County and Tucson. Sometimes they just don't make the best policies. And we don't want to combine our businesses with government. But it's an unfortunate fact that we all need to survive here and we need to work together. And I am grateful to be working together with perfection auto works. Brendan, I'm expecting a call, but apparently we haven't gotten it yet, right? Oh, here we go. See? Timing is everything. I have been talking about a lot of different things. We are in the middle of political season.
So much is happening around us in other countries as we kind of look at Wisconsin and how close the socialist candidate came to being the candidate for governor. But what you've noticed recently in the last few days is that people are backing off of that. So I... I think that hopefully, and although I would tell you as someone who's on the our side, I would really love to... see more of the extreme candidate because I think that actually helps the Republicans. I don't know what a moderate Democrat is because they've been very quiet in terms of speaking out about the extreme policies. Make no mistake, they don't seem to have the political will. That is why we are where we are right now with these extreme people on the left. And so I invited someone who's no stranger to this show, Nils Gravilles, a crime expert, author, and U.S. Army veteran. So back on the show. And Nils, welcome back. It's been a while. It has been a while, Ms. When, how are things going in Tucson? You know, it rained last night for a while. And because it doesn't rain, well, it's been raining, so it's wonderful, and it goes pretty good. We're in the middle of our political season here, and we're trying to restore political sanity to the state of Arizona, and we don't want to go blue. I understand and respect that. I'm going to say something about the DSA here, the communists. Yes, please. The Democrat Party now has the same relationship with them that they had with the Ku Klux Klan from 1865 till about last week. Okay. They want the numbers, they want the organization, they want the votes. And when the DSA, the communists do something bad, the Democrats say, it's not our dog. He didn't bite you besides you kicked him first. Right. Yes. So they've been playing a coy game here. All right. They've teased the communists for a long time with access to power. And the oligarchs behind the Democrat Party, most of them, with certain exceptions like that character in China and the Soros people, they don't want the communists to have simultaneous access to gasoline and matches. So they only give them one at a time. They only give them limited power. Well, the communists now...
see their own power and want to take over the the democrats they are in the middle of a civil war in that party and they're having to pull out many of the stops that they use against us in a in a general election in order to undo the communist, Francesca Hong lost in Wisconsin by one percentage point. I think it was even less than that. I think it was like, I don't know, like three or four thousand boats in there was like 300 or 400 casts for both of them. It was, it was. And there was also five missing thumb drives. With missing data that the communists are now complaining about saying that the Democrat machinery in Wisconsin may have schnitzled them, if you'll pardon me, for using, you know, Midwestern, northern to Midwestern vernacular here. What, uh, that the communists are alleging the Democrat Party may have pulled a fast one to, to disenfranchise home. Look, you know, in all of their polling up there, Marquette University Inclusive, she was leading by 20 percentage points going into this primary election. Well, she was. And I think what you saw, though, and I notice everything when it comes to these campaigns, you saw Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders walking away. you know she I don't care about Thanksgiving you know you don't like Thanksgiving that's on you but and I think July 4th but I, I, that doesn't, that's not what bothers me. What bothers me is that these candidates have come up and, and here's what my hope is, is that they don't go to the more moderate Democrat, that this distrust about where are these missing thumb drives and everything else leaves their voters disenfranchised. That's what it feels like. We've experienced it here in Arizona. When you know in your heart of hearts and we're hearing about the, um, I think it was, I don't know how many thousands of records were stolen, and then it didn't prosecute the guy out of Fountain Hills, Arizona. So we've been here. We live this in 2020. In 2020. And then we were told we were crazy. We were told we were election deniers. We were told we were racist, whatever, you know, the whole litany. And now they're experiencing it because it's being used, the machinery, if you will, that they're using it against their own. And
They've got some incredible extremists on their side, and they don't care about this country. They don't care about what we stand for. Constitution, they don't even, they can barely spell it, let alone read it, and applying it as a whole other thing. This is FDR, the fantastic progressive, whom they still hold up as a standard bearer of progress within the Democrat Party. and his voting coalition for all four elections included the Ku Kluxk's plan. 100% yes nils we have to take like our little quick break can i get you to stay with me i know i can i'm not going to run away from you i stand here i'll defend my thesis i'm right here i love it and i thank you thank you nils i just i was so excited uh it all worked out i've been so busy with the election stuff i there was days i wanted to have you on and couldn't so i'm glad you're back today all right we're talking to nils private eye, so many things, such an accomplished man. And you are listening to 1030 The Voice, your trusted local news and talk here on Wynne Tucson. I'm Kathleen Wynne. Stay with us. We've got so much more. We'll be back right after this.
Welcome back to Wind Tucson, and I do have to say, also a consumer of Leon's tree service, and he cut my trees long before we had the rains. Now we've had all the rains. My trees look amazing. I have had some branches fall down in the last few days, but not because of them. They did a great job. I'm going to probably have to have them come back and carry some away. We've had some really high winds here. And so I love the people that are supporting this show. You should support them. But call Leon's tree service. They're amazing. Okay. With that, we are talking to crime expert, author, U.S. Army veteran. That's one of my favorite things about Nils Gravilles. And you completed three tours in Korea. So North Korea right now is launching missiles that are... In this pitch, it says, more aggressive towards the U.S. and South Korea, does that mean that they are going farther and their targeting is better? Could you explain, like, what that means more aggressive, if you don't mind, Nils? Well, I'm going to characterize the whole situation this way. What House of Kim is doing is they are shaking down their neighbors for food, literally. They have a problem feeding North Korea. Here's the problem that the entire peninsula of Korea has. Less than 18% of the land is arable for farming. They grow crops up the sides of hills in an effort to feed themselves. North Korea has the mineral resources. South Korea has the agricultural resources. So only 8% of the land in North Korea is arable for farming. They can't feed themselves. They had 2 million people starve to death in a report in the LA Times 20 years ago that Barbara Demick wrote. And I believe the report. And this is an inversion in the late 50s, early 60s, the old man Kim Il-sung, who founded North Korea, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, was so much more effective than Chairman Mao that Chinese were crossing into North Korea in order to find food. Now it's the opposite. What Kim is doing, I don't think Kim intends to invade South Korea. If he thought he could get away with it and overwhelm South Korea and take control of the whole show, he would. He knows he can't. But isn't the South Korea leadership more aligned with North Korea than it has been? I mean... Well, aligned to the extent that there are leftists in the government now who make Mr. Rogers talk about the North Koreans and are happy to forget things like the 60,000. professionals, teachers, lawyers, doctors, etc. taken out into the streets of Seoul in 1950 when the North Korean army invaded and machine gunned against walls. Okay? Yes.
That's what the communists do when they take over. Well, we have, Niels, don't you think we have short memories? And I will say that's 67 years ago, because in 58, that's when I made my appearance here in the world. But I think that almost 68 years ago, I think that we don't learn the lessons of history. And so, you know, the whole thing doomed to repeat it. And we have such an instantaneous news. coming at us, which is what has empowered the socialism. And they're not Democrat social, they're just socialism, which is communism. I mean, so we... I agree with you. You know, socialism is for play, and you know what communism is. And then you have the aftermath, and nobody gets out of it clean. It's always ugly stuff. The Pol Pot was confronted after killing two million Cambodians. And Pol Pot smiled for the camera and said everything I did I did for my country. You know, that's always their excuse. Fidel Castro said, history will absolve me. Well, not without the leftists of the West. Right. These are the same people who urged Ayatollah Khomeini to take over in Iran and, you know, France. sent Ayatollah Khomeini back to Iran. And Ayatollah Khomeini wasn't just an Islamic fundamentalist. He was also a Marxist Leninist. He used Leninist tactics to overthrow the Shah of Iran. We were all told that the Shah was quote unquote brutal, violent and corrupt. Well, what of the, what was Ayatollah Khomeini exponentially worse? Right. Okay. And it's always the middle class that does this. You were talking about moderate Democrats. I'm going to say something that moderate Republicans and moderate Democrats largely share. Their children are always idiot leftists. Okay. Okay, so this comes out of the middle class. The Cuban Revolution was middle class. the Iranian revolution was middle class. The only thing that they kept at a proletariat revolution in Russia was the vast legion of peasant class military combat veterans that Vladimir Putin Lenin was able to tap into and lead the actual fighting. Okay? Yes. But here in this country, all these flaming-eyed communists. who don't believe in Santa Claus, but do believe in a bearded Santa Claus who doesn't slide down the chimney. They believe in marks are all upper middle class, bougie white kids with garbage degrees from elite butthole factories. And I'm going to use better vernacular than I typically use just because it's your show, Ms. Win. Thank you. I appreciate that. And my producers appreciate that. I don't want to get me in trouble, you in trouble or have the... No, but I think there's... Thank you. And I think... But here's the thing. And we don't normally talk like that, but it's extreme. And I, you know, my husband and I, we have an anniversary this month. We've been together 29 years. We'll be married 28. We were a blended family. We have seven kids, 19, I was 20 grandkids. We care.
about the future why because we have this family that we've poured into and love and like and we're not unique or special in that but but we we've somehow gotten lazy uh in this country or um Or we let this has not happened just last Tuesday. This has been going on, as you point out, for decades. And now we allowed them to take over the schools, the public schools and the municipal water board and the dog catching relief agency and the NGOs. Yeah, yes. All of that. And we looked the other way while they did it out of convenience. and then we supported people who pretended to represent our interests who really didn't who were in the back pocket of oligarchs like George Soros many of them pretended to be on our side One of them was a combat veteran from the state of Chorian, and he's dead now, and I'm not going to say his name. No, I understand. It's like saying Stumple-Riltskins. Or Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice. But yes, you're right. Exactly. So that's the situation that we're in, and we can't compromise with communists. Yes, you're right. We can't compromise. There is, you know, people say, well, we need to have a middle ground. Where is it? Where is the middle ground right now? Because it's the left, the Democrat party has gone to the socialist party. When people say that a Democrat is moderate right now, I don't, I know maybe two legislators in the state that fit that bill. But they're being pushed out by their own party. The Democrats are in disarray right now. And we as Republicans and conservatives, we're not perfect either. But we need to take advantage of that. We absolutely need to explain that. That left turn, if you will, is completely destructive to what we have. And we are, and again, I'm going to stress this because you, you still live in California, right, sir, Nils? Well, you, but such as it is, yes, I'm deep within enemy-held territory here, Ms. Wynn operator running a guerrilla operation in Los Angeles. I know. Los Angeles, God bless them. And you. But you know what's going on there. And we, Tucson is LA light, if you will. And the same failed policies in California are not working here in Pima County. And instead of, and we have to, we've been standing up for, I've been chair now for a year and a half, we've been pushing back and we've had some victories.
But this is an ongoing mission. You cannot get lazy and you cannot concede. And you have to keep speaking out. It's one of the reasons I love doing this show is because I think I would be so frustrated if I couldn't come and have these kinds of conversations every day. It's so important that we understand what is happening here. And it's not unique to Tucson. It's not unique to Arizona. It's happening across the country. But this election is even more important than the presidential election because this is about balance of power. And I'm hoping and praying that the average, I'm going to put this in a Democrat who's not involved in the party politics, but just trying to make a living and do all that, is willing to fight back. And independence, independence is the largest growing party. Why? Because they're tired of the infighting between the Republicans and Democrats. I agree with you, but why would independence or disaffected Democrats... go to a GOP that doesn't stand for anything. And that's a question I would put to Mr. John Thune. Yeah, 100%. And we have to, can I get you to stay over? We have our hard news break, like right now. Do you have a little bit more time, Nils? Well, I've been handcuffed by Ms. Wynn. I must stand by here to be interrogated further. Yes, yes, please. It's not interrogation. I really value your viewpoint. But thank you. You may be handcuffed in L.A. That's a different problem. But we can talk about that, too. We are talking to Nils Gravilles, one of my favorite guests. And you are listening to 1030 The Voice on KVOI.com. We are your trusted local news source. And this is Wynn, Tucson. Stay with us. We'll be back right after this. Welcome back to Win Tucson. We're talking to Nils Gravilius. And Nils, I just want to let you know. I know you know this, that Nancy Guthrie is still missing, just on an aside. I think that's the last time we spoke was during that and is still unfortunately going on. And it points to leadership. or lack thereof. And so I want to get back to this. conversation about the who's really pulling the strings. We have China Watch Wednesday here and on Wednesday we talked about how the media, the general media, your CNNs and all those are pretty much bought and paid for. They don't have their own opinions. They are an arm of the CCP or at least socialism, communism, whatever you want to put on them.
They create disinformation in America, and they target young, ill-informed, uninformed people that are, and they're paying for these people's votes. And I think we are at a crossroads in this country. And, you know, I agree, you know, the Republicans are... are not without blame or fault. John Thune is despicable. You know, the fact that they are trying to hold this president hostage at a time when we have the majority, and we saw this before, this isn't new. They did this the last time. So there's... They've squandered opportunity after opportunity. The time to... To realign our situation with China actually came contemporaneous with the 9-11 attack. But by then it was obvious that China was headed in a direction of being our de facto Federal Reserve for the amount of money that we were borrowing from them that we didn't need to borrow. The reason the money was being borrowed was to fund a war. and to secure our, you know, 8,000-mile petroleum supply to the Middle East. Richard Nixon in 1973 should have domesticated our energy supply. And instead, they decided to keep it with the Middle East. And this has involved us in conflict after conflict after conflict. And now we have this situation with Iran. Now, we're in better shape now. if you really think about it, it used to be that any Middle Eastern dictator could step on the oil supply, spike the price of oil, royal the markets, and then there was instantaneous political pressure all over the Western world to do this or do that or not do that, restrain this, make this deal, you know, that sort of thing. So, China is a real problem, and China has tentacles into the Iranian situation far more than when it was ever obvious, okay? And if China has tentacles into that, I can promise you they own shares in bin Laden's operation. Oh, of course. There's no, at least here, we've been saying this, everything that's being revealed now, we've been saying on this show for three years. This is not, you know, to my listeners, this isn't not new news. If they've just joined recently, it may be. But. With that knowledge, then I'm an action person, right? So with that knowledge, then what do we do? We obviously have elections coming up, so that's one piece of this. But then once people are in office, we tend to go back on vacation brain. We default to allowing the laziest people to represent us in the United States, Congress, and Senate.
It's a club and you and I aren't in it, Kathleen. I understand. I tried. So that's what we wind up with. And I want to be very clear. I'm, you know, I am all in for Congressman Siskamani right now. He's got one of the toughest races in the country. But again, he's running against a socialist. He's running against an extreme socialist. And I don't believe in. rural Arizona, which is where we are, Tucson isn't, but the rest of that district is, I don't believe that they're going to buy that. We're the border. We have increased drug trafficking here while it's going down in the rest of the country. We have homelessness beyond. compare and our crime rates are up. So, and they want that. I agree with you. And the people want more money. We had the same situation last, last election with Mike Garcia. He was a great congressman, former Navy fighter pilot. I contributed money to him. The man wouldn't walk the district and lost the election. He conducted his fundraising from San Marino rather than up in the district. You know, half of his voters are Lancaster onion farmers. and he wouldn't go walk the district with him. Yeah, there you go. And everyone, anyone that puts their own personal, oh, I'm not going to vote for that person ahead of the party because they didn't like what they did in the primary. I get it. I didn't like some of the tactics either. But you're not that, you know, spending your energy that way as opposed to getting our candidates over the finish line. And to your earlier point, we can't just go on vacation. We have to. We have to continue to engage these people that get elected or hold them accountable. Not engage them, hold them accountable. You know, we elected them. The nice thing in the state legislature, those terms are only two years. Congress is only two years. And I think that's why you're seeing, you know, some of these Senate races around the country. But I feel confident that they have misfired Graham Platner as example, right? You know, that was a big misstep. And I don't think the guy that they... Fantastic. What are you talking about? I'm sending the man money right now, miss me. No, you're not. You know you're not. I know you're not. I have your bio here unless you've totally lost your mind because you live in L.A. I'm using you and you know it. I'm not going to send that man. And he's ridiculous. And he's a ridiculous man from a ridiculous party. And let me say something. It's just like with Eric Swalwell. If they thought they could have won with him, they would have stayed with him. Well, and he's good friends with Ruben Gallego, Senator Gallego.
And I'm going to tell you, he still has problems because he's in videos. He was with these women that they raped. He, you know, walking, you know, being on a camel with no shirt on and who knows what the hell they were doing. This, he's not, he, then to say he wasn't his good friend, no, they were besties. So, you know, and Eric Swalwell going away, he became a liability, but he was an asset for the CCP for a long time. And he's not the only one. Well, I think that there are many people in my congressional delegation who are CCP, if not CCP adjacent. I see it all the time. Take a drive up to California. UC Berkeley, UCLA. All the prestigious universities are overloaded, not just with Asian students. You know, it's great to have visitors from friendly countries, that sort of thing. Chinese communists send their kids for the best education in the world in California, and they push out Americans with their money. Well, you know, and in the last few days, again, we had reported this, but the bringing people over here, getting them illegal green cards to establish citizenship, thousands and thousands and thousands of Chinese citizens, did you, did that get across your desk in the last few days? Did you see that? Yes, I did. Yes, it did. It's like death by a thousand paper cuts. It's just another tactic. Well, and who opposes the prosecution? Well, our friends on the left do. They want this turmoil. Yeah, they do. They pay for the attorneys and all sorts of things. Well, it's another way to erode. I think the Founding Fathers... The longer that we fight for this country and where we are, we're just barely over our 250 year, one month celebration, and they are doing everything they can, everything they can to deconstruct what was constructed. And... And it's up to us on the ground here to fight back. And you don't fight back on Facebook. I love everybody. You're great. I'm so happy that you pontificate there. But you fight back with action. One of the actions is voting. One of the actions is going to these meetings. One of the actions is holding people accountable once they get elected. And one of the actions is finding good qualified candidates to run. Also sending money. Yes. And if you can't stand the committee, send money to the candidate that you support, it doesn't have to be a big amount of money. Democrats do this all the time. This is a group activity for them. Yeah, what is it? I was going to say Code Blue. It's not Code Blue. It's Act Blue. Act Blue. Act Blue. They're a criminal organization. And NAROL and all that. I mean, this is a group activity for them. Do you remember 20 years ago before the rise of social media?
They would get together in boiler rooms and they would call AM radio all the time. And Limbaugh called them seminar callers. You notice with the rise of Facebook that seminar callers disappeared from the AM airwaves, you don't get calls from angry voters who say, I'm a Republican and I'm going to vote for John Kerry because he's the greatest guy in the world. We've been betrayed by the GOP. Remember, they completely ceased all that activity. Now they put it into social media and Twitter and bots and all of that stuff. And there's so, you know, if you're getting bagged on, like Juan gets bagged on running for Congress against Mendoza. And I always go check to see. And then there's like one picture on that site and it's a bot. So, you know, bots aren't real, but that's meant to not. Well, it's meant to attack one, but it's also meant to diminish his followers so that they get to discourage. Well, yeah, to erode their confidence in him and make them think that they're in a minority because, you know, look at this loud, prominent voice telling me how terrible my candidate is. I'd better take a second look. Look at all of these angry people, all these angry constituents, and it's all the same thing, and now it can be done with artificial intelligence. Well, and artificial intelligence, if you, we have to take a break. I, if you don't mind finishing up with me today on the race for AI dominance that we have against, as we mentioned, China, and where we are on that, and how important is that? So can we finish there today? I'll be, I will be standing by like a mean dog on a weakly. I'm here. I'm so glad you're on. We won't let it go this long the next time. All right, we're talking to Nils Gravilles. I am so happy. I'm having a good day. You are listening to 1030 The Voice. You're trusted local news and talk. And I'm Kathleen Wynn. We'll be back right after this. Welcome back to Wind Tucson. We're talking to Nils Gravilles, who's been held prisoner here for 45 minutes, and we're going to finish it off in the next 15. But then we're going to let him get on with his day. I bet we're grateful, and we love his sense of humor. And we need some humor. If we can't laugh, then we're doomed. And I'm not in a spirit of being doomed. I love when someone says it's impossible, and then we get it done. And we do that a lot. So I call that American spirit. Nils, what's happening across the country is that, you know,
We're reckoning with power-hungry data centers springing up, and the CCP is mudding the waters. And, you know, it's another place where they're creating division. You've got citizens fighting back. What's your take on these data centers and how critical are they for us to survive and thrive in the AI world? Is that a fair question? It's like any other piece of commerce. There are pros and cons. I'm going to point out that 100 years ago, people didn't want oil refineries. Thank you. Good. I like that answer. Continue. Okay. So am I supposed to stick with my buggy whip and my Appaloosa to get me to town? I'll leave your Amish. Let's... Let's talk about what AI has the power to do because it is too easy for people who are uninitiated to dismiss it as just a fad or something like the Internet was once dismissed. I'm going to talk about biomedical research. Drugs can get to the market in one one hundredth of time, potentially, using AI to conduct the research. That's the power of AI. You can run psychological warfare operations against an enemy using AI by flooding their media, their television, their Twitter feed, their Facebook, their everything with an erosion in confidence of their economy, of even natural resources and the weather and everything else you could create. All of the reasons necessary for a population to overthrow their own government. That is the power of AI. And I want to say one thing, well, something very important about what AI can do in the realm of crime. Heroin was invented more than 100 years ago as a cure for morphine addiction. It sounds ridiculous when you think about it now. It's only when you say it out loud. Yeah, when the learned men of science 100 years ago came up with that, you can see how ridiculous. Well, I was going to say their relatives probably invented the vaccine for COVID, but keep going. You're doing great. Well, right, right. So the way that narcotics work is they cause an imbalance in brain chemistry, and it courses through the nerves, and it induces a euphoria. It takes actual physical pain over into the next room, and you know it's there, but you don't care about it anymore. That's the effect of morphine, right? Yes. What if artificial intelligence could be used in biomedical research to influence a virus into creating the same brain chemistry reaction that opioids create? And now you have a virus that people voluntarily take so that they develop the euphoria. And because it's a virus, it's transmissible. What if they do it with a protein like Coitzfeld Jacobs or Matt Cow disease where the brain takes on a permanent state of elation like cocaine use? They're never not high.
And because of that, they're permanently impaired. Yes. What if AI is used to make a bacteria that replicates the effect of cannabis toxicity, where somebody is in a hypnotic state of borderline and then actually into paranoid schizophrenia? as the result of using this bacteria, and the bacteria rapidly reproduces itself and can be found in things that weren't meant to get people into a state of toxicity. That is the power of AI to change bacteria, proteins, and chemicals and everything else. So it's something that has to be regulated. It's something that has to be used in commerce in order for us to stay competitive. And if we think that we can do this without having data centers in this country, this is just as idiotic. as having oil refineries in Riyadh and not in California, yet expecting gasoline to be sold for 80 cents a gallon. Right. And you've got a governor over there that is, hasn't he shut them down in California? Hasn't he shut down in a refund? Well, sure. He's happy to prance around and virtue signal and everybody's going to drive around in a Band-Aid operated car or something. And when the electric cars fail, well, I guess you're just going to have to live in a 15-minute city. You don't have enough privilege credits to leave the city. You didn't need a metro pass anyway. What were you going to do? You're probably going to burn the capital down, damn you.
I'm not laughing because any of that is funny. I'm laughing because you could just have done an ad for No on 425 where they want access to all. They're overtaxing us and there's a formula and they can't. And so there's all this money sitting there that they can't get their hands on and they have, you know, and they're doing all these dumb policies. And so we have a proposition on the ballot in November. And you just pretty much wrote the ad for it. I'm going to come back and listen to this. And, you know, it is like. You can't reward them for high crime, homelessness, and, you know, and all the stupid policies that we have. Do you guys have free bus service over in California? Free? I mean, if they don't enforce the fair structure, I mean, what isn't free? Well, we have no, literally. We don't have free fentanyl. We have free housing. We have free everything. You can't get, I mean, if you occupy someone else's house, they can't evict you. I mean, there's a process on the books to do it, but try to get it done and see what happens. That's insane. That is insane. Well, that's what we voted for, and I feel really good about myself, too. I've got my endorphins flowing. I'm going to put a bumper stick on the back of my Prius. Everybody's going to know what a superior human being I am. Bass or bust? Is that what I has to say? Right, with a great big rainbow flag, so that everybody knows that I'm tolerant and inclusive. Rainbows and unicorns, that's what we say here. So, Nils, I, oh. California is a mess. We don't want Arizona to look like California. We are surrounded now. We are surrounded by California, Nevada, although Nevada is fighting like we are, but they're more blue than red. Colorado lost many years ago. New Mexico always been blue and we are surrounded. and we are fighting for our life here in Arizona, and we can't go back. We've got to go forward, and our governor's under federal investigation for her pay-to-play schemes. She's used every agency in the state to funnel money out to cronies, to other governments. It's all there. She's taken money from the cartels, I think. Yeah, Katie Cartel. Yeah, she has. And she picked John Giles, the former mayor of Mesa. who hasn't been Republican. He just recently, the only thing John Giles has done in recent history that has integrity is he re-registered as an independent. But the truth is he's really a Democrat. He's supported Democrats, Kamala Harris. He, you know, has supported nothing but Democrats. And. uh he now they're trying to trout him out like he's a republican the republicans know he's not a republican so i don't think that's that story narrative and then what she's done is she doesn't have anyone so she picked a white male think about this when she's her base is Hispanic and she's alienated uh people in her own party uh because she's tone deaf
to the electorate in this state. And we're, you know, and we're out registering them by 400,000. This is ours to lose if we don't get out the vote. And getting out the vote is the most important thing. Any... Well, you have to do it at the local level. You know you're not going to get any support from the national party. I know, and why is that, as we finish up today? Because they're happy to be the minority opposition. They love being the opposition party. They like being the tackling dummy for the Democrats, and the oligarchs like it when they do that. Back to John Thune. Yeah, that's what you had with John McCain. John McCain was the single greatest asset to the Democrat Party. The Democrat Party had for 30 years in the U.S. Congress. So that wouldn't surprise you that his wife has now endorsed Katie Hobbs. Do you see me driving my car off the road and surprise? You don't. You know, Cindy was always this way. Megan has more sense than her mother. And Megan has come out for Andy Biggs. So there you go. Maybe Grandma doesn't get to see the grandkids this year. So we will figure this out. We've come to the end of our time. I'm releasing you back to your day. And please keep fighting the fight for us. And we will have you back again. I appreciate your point of view and everything that you have to contribute. Have you got your copy of the last lawman yet, my book? I have not. I will do that. I'll go on right now and order it when we go to this break. I'll take care of it. I wish you would, and next time I'm on, let's give it five minutes. What do you say? Oh, I'd love to do that. And tell the listeners real quick the title of the book. The Last Lawman by Nils Gravarez, true stories of a private detective. It's available on Amazon right now. I'm going to, well, you're going to get one sale for sure today. All right. Thanks, Niles. Have a wonderful day. God bless you. All right. This is 1030, The Voice, your trusted local news and talk. This is Thursday. We're almost a Friday. I'm Kathleen Wynn, and we'll be back right after this. Don't go anywhere. Welcome back to Win Tucson, and is Joel still on the... Okay, so Joel Strabel is here. Joel, welcome to the show. Good morning, welcome. It's good to be back. You can tell me welcome. It's my show. I'm glad to be here, too. So, did it rain a lot at your house last night? Yes, it did. Lots of storms, lots of lightning. Kept me awake, but I woke me up several times. Okay, good. I wasn't the only one. So lots going on. Any news or anything exciting? Any updates to share?
Not that I have seen with respect to Pima County, other than we're getting a lot of inputs on the ballot initiatives and what they mean, and we're working on golden tickets for providing inputs to voters on candidates and propositions to vote for and against. I started calling people today who had called me on Election Day because they know me and to set up appointments to go back into the website and put them back on the early voting list because they didn't get a ballot or checking to see their party registration. Anybody can do that though, right? And I want to make sure that we touch each and every voter between now and November 3rd. We have 50 days, 50-some, I don't know what it is today, 52, 53. We are going to put a clock on the Pima GOP website. It's not there yet, but within the next few days, it's a countdown clock so that you can go to PimaGOP.org and figure out the deadlines for when early ballots drop. But right now, take care of it in August. You don't normally follow your taxes ahead, but take care of your voter registration right now. It's one of the most important things you can do. Joel, anything, so when is the next thing that, when's the next deadline? If I want to register to vote, let's say I just moved here from some other place, hopefully a blue place, and we can flip you to red. What are the next deadlines that we need to be aware of? The last day to register to vote so you can vote in the November general election is October 5th, Monday, October 5th. So if you don't register by that date, you don't get to vote. Okay. And does everybody in the general election, I know the answer to this question. I'm going to ask anyway. Let's say I'm a P&D. Let's say I'm a Green Party. Everyone gets the same ballot in November, correct?
Fundamentally, yes, but the ballot will be tailored to the precinct you're in based on congressional district, legislative district, and school board. Okay. And one of the things that we're going to have on this ballot, it's going to be daunting. It may even be, do you think the ballot will be two pages? Two pages are front and back of a single page. Even with all the propositions? even with all the propositions okay so it'll just be still one piece of paper correct okay all right so that's that's that's good and we should know that by next week okay so we will and and then what we're going to do here on this show once we see what the what's on the ballot what is not um we are going to um We are going to break down each and every proposition. The other thing we're going to do is, as we get closer to the election, is deal with school boards. I think that we are electing, is it five school boards in Pima County or is there more? I believe there are six. Okay. You've got Amphi, you've got bail. CDO, Tancaverty. Torana, Oro Valley, Tankerverty, and Tucson. Okay, so that's seven. So we're going to tell you that. We'll have those candidates on each and every seat. We don't have, some LDs don't have representatives running, so we'll let the Democrat, well, you know, we can figure that out. Maybe we want someone over someone else. But. We have to deliver a Senate and a House of Representatives, and we cannot afford to lose one single seat. And I think that one of the most important things that we can do is just keep informing voters. So the election integrity commission, What are, do we have any lessons learned from this primary that we need to start to look at? I have not seen the agenda for next week's election integrity commission. I believe it'll get published Friday or Monday. So at the moment, I am not sure what we are going to discuss in the August meeting because the, Primary election canvas report has not been released yet, and that would be the first focus of the Election Integrity Commission come August, but I'm sure September will be pretty interesting. I'm looking at, oh, go ahead. No, go ahead. So I'm looking at, I think this is Craig Smith, the encampments, the amount of money that we're spending, to clear homeless encampments. But it seems like they're leaving trash behind. It's not healthy, so much for social distancing. And it is costing the county to clean up this homeless thing, hundreds of thousands of dollars, and they cleared 594 encampments. You know,
Are we succeeding in this? It was 683 million, I don't know if that's million, no, $683,000 cost to clear those. So do we, you know, are we winning that battle, Joel? No, I think all we're doing is closing the camps and relocating them, and we're not addressing the primary issues of the causes of homelessness and getting people to not be homeless. Out of sight, out of mind kind of mentality? Correct. Okay. Uh-huh. And so that's why we, you know, we have an opportunity. Again, I'm going to keep beating this drum in Supervisor District 5, you know, Jeff Rhodes for a new path forward in Pima County. We, the policies, the people that are on the, on the dais right now are responsible for these policies. And so, you know, and I'm going to give Steve Christie a pass because he typically votes against some of the nonsense. But we have to, we absolutely have to fix what's broken here. One of the ways I think is you change the leadership at the top in the state, because the state then can come and help. This governor hasn't helped our homeless problem. This governor, like Gavin Newsom, has expanded homelessness and expanded the dysfunction, expanded the drug use. And there's some that believe that, you know, Katie Hobbs has, my last guest, has taken money from the cartels. So I don't want to make that allegation without proof, but I'm confident it's coming. And I believe that this is a time where we say we want our state back and we want to have good sound economic policies. We want to make government smaller. We want to, you know, get rid of all these administrators in the government, in our school systems. You know, TUSD is shrinking. You know, you abort babies and there's no kids to come up. You know, you look at the policies that they support. and then they want to fight for power. And this is a time where we can take it back. Joel? So correct. And I did do a brief quick, some quick research. So the Pima County, like you said, almost spent $700,000 for cleanup. homeless relocation costs. That's cleanup and relocation, not solving the problem. That's just playing a shell gate. Yeah, it's like moving your vegetables around on your plate, hoping your parents don't notice you didn't eat them. Go ahead. Yeah, well, I used to put my peas underneath the plate and not clear my plate until my mom caught me, and then I had to eat my peas before I eat anything else. So I wish they'd solve the problem versus hide it.
And then Tucson, you can't find any hard data on Tucson into what they're spending on the homeless issue. So that is scary because Tucson is supposed to be representing the significant portion of Pima County or the significant portion of the population of Pima County, and they aren't even being open on what they're doing on the homeless problem. So we need help from the state and we need voters to vote in people that are intending to fix the problem instead of hide the problem. Exactly. We have to take a break. When we come back, I want you to tell people how they can sign up to help us with the election. And we'll be back right after this on Win Tucson on 1030 The Voice, your trusted local news and talk. Welcome back to Wind Tucson. We're talking to LG chair of LD17, Joel Strabollah, also on the Election Integrity Commission, my go-to guy to help us get volunteers. Joel, I think we took a week off, sort of, right? Yeah. Okay. But now we're back in the saddle, ready to ride again into the next election, because that's what we have to do. Before we do that, I just have to give a shout out to perfection, AutoWorks. When you guys go in there because something has happened to your car because the roads have not gotten any better overnight and we just had rain so they're probably worse. And you need an alignment or you need new breaks or, you know, if you drive down any road, there's homeless people. That's where they've been relocated. So you probably have to slam on your brakes on any given road. Go tell Mike Emery that you're coming to him because you heard it on Wind Tucson. Okay. Sorry, just how to do that. And I'm not sorry because Mike's a great guy and he's a conservative and takes great pride in our city and our county, but understands all too well the things we're fighting against. Are we a business-friendly community, Joel? No. Well, you didn't hesitate on that. That's good.
You know, I am so, I'm not as in, you know, as the chairman of the party, I have to be invested in our brand. I'm not as invested in that, though, as I am to solving some of these problems that are solvable that we seem to want to throw money at, as opposed to getting to the root cause. And, um, uh, and stopping the steel. of money. The other day at the, we were, you were at our board meeting, but the Pima County Board of Supervisors met and they tabled an issue which would have given money to, is it Rocky? Anyway, somebody who has left government, but they were going to pay him $120,000 a year just, I don't know why. And we have to stop that kind of stuff. And we have to hold the people that are in there, even though they're not up for election, this election, but it would be nice to flip one of those seats. And so we have fielded a candidate in what would have been Adelaide's old district. But Adelaide has gone full-blown socialist on us. And she is supporting the Mondamis of the world. And I don't believe that... Pima County, Tucson, Arizona is a communist, not to say that we don't have socialist and communists that live here, but I don't believe that that's the majority. And just because the press may support that narrative doesn't mean that that's everybody. And those that are not that tend to stay quiet. And if you look at the growing voter base right now, it's independence. Can we get independence to turn out to vote this election and make the difference? Yes, our message has to be to independents that we need to make this Arizona great again and make America great again. And your vote is needed to help guide our elected officials to help fix our problems in this state and in this country. And staying home. will elect Democrats. And remember, Democrats or Republicans are not necessarily the solution to your problem, but Democrats are always the cause of your problems. And we say that with all the love in our heart, right? Right. So in LD17, you have a Senate race. Chris King is the Republican candidate. And you have a house race. And John Winchester and Rachel Keschel are our candidates there. Rachel is the incumbent. We hope to get out Mr. Vogue. He has not been helpful for the agenda that we have. That LD17 on paper is a very conservative Republican district. Can we keep... Correct. And Vince Leach is retiring. He has served the state well, but it is now time to take that seat. And how do the candidates... I mean...
LD17 did pretty well during the primary. Congratulations and turning out the vote. LD19 edged out percentage-wise. Total votes, though, we are large. And so we did really well. Can we do it again and do it better in the general election? Yes. And we have plans of going forward and contacting the voters through interactions with our political activists called Precinct Commitiamins, phone calls, texting, letters, literature drops at their home, discussions and advertisements in person, as well as, of course, candidate signs. and proposition signs all over Pima County. So we're trying to get the message out that, hey, we have good candidates this year. We need to keep Pima County and Arizona and the federal government red. And we need to continue working on fixing the problems that the previous administration created and to make this country great again.
And are people paying it? I think the socialist thing, I think, again, it's been overplayed. I don't think it's, I think it's a concern, but I think are we a good alternative to that? Yes, we are. And why? Make the case. Why? Why, number one, is we're patriots and we love our country. Most of us don't like the direction the country is going. We don't like, I'll say, the socialist and communist manifestos that are becoming in vogue within the Democrat Party, which are in direct contrast slash diametrically opposed to the principles of America and what's defined in our Constitution. And I think people are starting to wake up and you're seeing it across the country as well as in Arizona and Pima County with the increase in voter registrations for the Republican Party and independence or party not declares and the decrease in registration in the Democrat Party. I think many Democrats, middle-of-the-road Democrats. and conservative Democrats are so fed up with the direction their party is going that they're leaving in droves. And there's a lot of, I'll say, senior folks nationally in the Democrat Party that are looking scared at what is happening to their voter base. They're leaving the party. And I hope they join the Republican Party. We'll welcome you and help us fix this country because... We don't want Tucson and Arizona to turn into New York and New York City. We don't? We don't. And I think California is a lost cause. Well, my guest lives there, and he would probably agree with you. My last guest. And so we really are. the city of hope, if you will, right now, the county. We've got to fix this. I will tell you that we, as a county, we just found out due to new election laws, we can bundle money and send it to the candidates and then do that. So if you want to donate to somebody who's running for governor, attorney general, secretary of state, those are the three races that we're focused on. You can go to Pima GOP. and hit our donate button and designate that you want to be part of that. We're raising money because that's what gets it done. I will tell you that outside Club for Growth and some other packs have come in and they're taking up the cost so we can fight back. The Hobbs administration is using a lot of their money that they've gotten from all over. to attack Andy Biggs and say that he's going to raise taxes. He's saying exactly the opposite. So I'm hoping that the average voter doesn't fall for that. Anybody that knows Andy and knows how he is on small government, he wants to shrink the tax obligation in the state and eliminate state income taxes, which would make it better for businesses, would make it better for us. And it is absolutely...
one of the things that we can do to make it affordable again. He's focused on affordability. The other side wants to control everything. Very different forms of government. And you should not be happy with where Arizona is right now. And we need to fix it. And Katie Hobbs is leaving us without water. She really doesn't deserve and hasn't earned another four years, in my humble opinion. There's so much dysfunction. And when you can't run your state agencies and you run out of money before the fiscal year ends and that's what happened with DPS, three months ahead of, they didn't make it nine months. They had a budget and she spent their money on other pet projects. That's not okay. And again, look at it. It's law enforcement. They don't mind stealing from law enforcement. It happens at the state level. It happens here locally. We have to be vigilant. We have citizens dying. We have mass shooting. We have become national news in our inability to manage the crime here. If you've got crime, you've got an increase in drugs and you have homelessness. Those are not separate issues. Those are... the same problem. We're not prosecuting criminals. We're not having the support we need for law enforcement. And we're allowing those that supply the drugs to run their criminal operations where we live. Do you know what changes that? Joel? Voting. People voting. Thank you. People participating. 100%. We need everyone. We need everyone. If you're an independent, if you're a Democrat, you have a choice to ban together. We need everyone to say, We love where we live. We love this part of the country. We're blessed. I love the desert. I loved it last night when it was thundering and lightning. This is where I want to be. So, Joel, thank you for jumping on. I appreciate it, as always. And when we come back, we're going to talk to Rick Shafton, my national political guide. It'd kind of give us a breakdown of what's happening around the country. You're listening to 1030 The Voice. You're trusted local news and talk. I'm Kathleen Wynne. This is Wynne Tucson. We'll be back right after this.
I love it. Phil Susan Collins, I wish it would rain, and it certainly has. I saw Noah's Ark floating by last night, I think around two in the morning, and the unicorns didn't get on again. So we are talking now to Rick Shaft, and one of my favorite people in the whole country. Rick, welcome back to when Tucson. Thanks for jumping on. I appreciate you. Hey, thanks for those kind words there. Well, I think you're great. I tell people all the time. I wish you lived closer. I was watching. Yeah, but you know, I just have trouble being someplace where the humidity isn't 86% in the middle of August. Well, we are, it's going to be 90 this week. It'll be like a cold spell here, and it was 75 when I was driving in today, which it hasn't been. Wow. I know. It's like almost. Well, it's actually a dry spell here. The humidity is only 75 today here. Oh, see? We don't even look at the temperature. We just look at the humidity. No, and you've got curly hair already, so what difference does it make, right? It's kind of like... Right, right. So I was watching Wisconsin. I want to start there. Did the Democrat machine kick out their own? Are her claims valid? I think it's hysterical, you know, because now there is election. No, she did it to herself. Okay. Well, she did it to herself with her stupid comments. And then... I mean, people are blaming the RNC for releasing all the opposition research, but I don't think it was the RNC. I think it was, I mean, although, you know, I don't respect much the RNC, so they're capable of all kinds of... stupid things. But I think the Democrats just went out there and said, this woman's a nut. We can't have her. And then they just dropped it all on Fox News, which they would totally amplify it, which it did. And then it filtered back to CNN and, you know, all the left-wing networks. And these people are just like, you know, I'm a crazy Marxist communist, but I'm not like, but I also know that this is not going to win an election. Well, and you saw Bernie. I was on that side, so I learned it. Democrats are focused on one, they've got to win. And they'll throw anybody overboard if they think that the person's going to be a problem for them. Republicans, we stick by our losers. And you're supporting them, right? Yeah. And I mean, so we have, you know, Max Miller. They're like just, you know, and I don't know, I think this guy and he's got some issues, electability. Well, we're going to see that, right? He's got a primary. It's just, yeah, the guy in North Carolina got out. He just knew. Well, no, Miller doesn't have a primary. Their primary was like in May or something. Okay. So Matt Miller's the nominee, and I think it's too late for him to get out of the race, and he's got all these, you know, accusations, including from the daughter of the Republican U.S. senator in the state. Is that his ex-wife? Yeah, so what happened in Wisconsin was, yeah, it was 22 points, you know, a week out. And then that final weekend, it was just like this woman's crazy, like she's crazier than, you know, it's a level of crazy that, you know, that even they couldn't handle.
I mean, that's basically what it was. Well, you know, and they're just like, this woman can't win, and they don't want Tom Tiffany, and that's who they voted for. Yeah, and I heard Tom Tiffany this morning, he sounded pretty reasonable to me. I can't vote in Wisconsin, so we'll see how that goes. And the guy that, the guy, is it Crowley, who beat her? Yeah. He, he, he, he, he didn't call her out. You know, if he was running against her, he should have called her out. But, you know, I, I think, I think her voters are feeling disenfranchised. And I think that, I think. I don't know what the odds are right now, but I hope Tiffany can pull it off. Wisconsin could use for a Republican governor. I'm trying to think of the guy that was there before that did a good job. Scott Walker. Yes, Scott Walker. And then we lost. And part of it is, you know, when you run for president and then you try to come back, you just get rejected. And it's very difficult to get reelected. I mean, he ran 2016, right? So, you know, then he tried to run in re-election in 2018. And you're like, a lot of people kind of, well, you want to be president. So, you know, do you really, you know, do you really want another term as governor, you know? And George Wallace was able to overcome that. He was one of the few who was able to overcome it. But it was a big issue. And it's in 1970 race. It's a huge issue with that government, which is, if somebody will say it was the nastiest campaign in American history, the Democratic primary in 1970. Richard Nixon wanted Wallace defeated, so they were helping the current governor, Albert Brewer, who was a civil rights liberal. And it went to a runoff, and it was just a complete bloodbath. But, you know, anyway, it's, what happened here was that in the last seven days, 20 points moved, and that does happen in primaries. It does because all... You have this kind of attention. Yes. And, you know, October's surprise, right, for a November 3rd election. So that's when all the stuff hits. And that's when early ballots go out here. So, you know, we've got 50 days. to make a case. And we're in that, you know, I call it closing arguments. Arizona is very different from like the, and most of the Western states, we have the mail and voting on a huge scale as you do. It's so much different because your campaign has to run over a large period of time. Right. As opposed to the way it used to be where we were just trying on one date. That was it. You know what? I think we need to go back to that, unfortunately. Well, I do too, but it's just not going to happen. And especially in a state like Arizona where, what is it, 85% of your voters are voting early. You're just...
You know, it's like putting toothpaste back in a tube as the saying goes, you know. Yeah, there's that. You can't really do it. So let's go to South. We have to learn the system and we have to work with the system and it really hurts the challenger because challengers don't have as much money, right? So they have to go for the compressed schedule. Now we've stretched them. Here's the great equalizer in social media because social media, anybody with a phone can record a video and if you have something to say, people will start following you. Yes. And now the candidates will have to sell themselves maybe a little more because your Facebook video is what's replacing door-to-door. Door-to-door is just becoming obsolete for a variety of reasons. People don't want people with their doors. They got ring doorbells. I want to disagree with you a little bit on that. And here's why. We have five teams, turning point, American majority, others, okay? on the ground here, all that caliber and all knocking doors. Only, though, once the ballots are out and we're chasing ballots. So it's not like going out to meet your constituency, okay? Because I agree with you on that. You have to reach them different ways. But... But you have to know the person coming to your door. If a stranger comes to your door, you're not going to give them the value. You're probably not even more to talk to them. And it's just not the way it used to be, but it's the way things have become, especially post-COVID, and people have ringed doorbells. So they just don't even, they look at it and say, I don't know this. It's not a new PS or Amazon, so I don't really, right? Well, I. And there's just a lot of people who tell me, I don't want somebody coming to my house. Right. So it's, and that's really what I've seen change over the last few decades. So where do you, you know, physically meet you? I always tell Canada supermarkets. Supermarkets, the only place you're going to meet both. Everybody goes, everybody goes to the supermarket except for people who don't leave their houses, which are some, or people just like to have it delivered. But those are people who definitely aren't going to answer the door. But they're the last people going to answer the door for you. So. Go to the supermarket. I mean, lots of people quickly. So some of them don't live in the district. So what? Some of them do live in the district. Here's what we're going to do. I want to go to South Carolina. Lindsey Graham's sister versus Ralph Norman. Oh, Ralph Mentum. What is... Norman is going to massacre, Darlene Graham, a week from Tuesday. He's going to be a massacre, and I'll tell you what. Okay. I mean, she seems like a nice lady, but unfortunately for her, the only things people know about her is that she got $10,000 from Lisa Murkowski, and she made a donation to one of the four Republican state senators who voted for abortion a couple of years ago, later lost her primary. So people... It's, of course, she wants to be personality race. She's a nice lady and whatever. Yeah. But it's not about that. And so what's happened is there's... It was nice that she went in and filled her brother's term, but then it's over. Yeah, everyone was fine with that. You know, okay, fill your term to the election, till the election, not six years.
It's not like his dynasty. It's not like people, it wasn't like it was Strom Thurmond or something and, you know, whatever, right? And even then, like, Sean Thurman's son lost the primary. Right. To Tim Scott. If only we could have been so lucky here with Adelaida Grohava, but continue, please. Right, right. But, you know, it's, there's. So I think what's happening there is you got Norman, you got Graham in the runoff. Now, people kind of look at this. Okay, she's the frontrunner. She's endorsed by Trump. So the instinct, a lot of the political hacks have is to go with her. But then they're seeing all the right winners, like every right winner in the state, every one of our people is getting behind Graham. I mean, behind Ralph Norman. Okay. You're, you know, it's what you're going to see in the next four days is what this Jersey City political reporter would refer to is the street scum. And he's telling me how we're going to win the election. I said, why? And he tells me this particular guys in the headquarters. And so he says, you know, when the street scum float to the top, he's going to win. Now, what's going to happen is you're going to have all these guys are the fingers in the wind, the Ramoomu fingers in the wind, like the Imperial Streets come that Peter Bari Weiss was talking about. And they're going to figure out, gee, Ralph Norman's going to win this election. So now it's like, wow, she's going to be U.S. Senator for six years. And then, of course, he's 73. So you have all these other people's like, wow, he'll be a senator for six years. So then six years I could be a senator. So it's just going to become this bandwagon effect. And then Trump, I watched Trump by the end of next week, he'll like do a dual endorsement or something. Oh, God, he should not. Even though Ralph Norman endorsed Nikki Haley for president, he'll do a dual endorsement so you can say he won. And that'll be the issue. That's what I think should happen. Okay, I like it. And we have to take a quick break just a minute, and then we'll come back and we'll finish up with Rick Shafton. And we'll talk more about what's going on and what we can expect across the country. And let's hope that Democrat and Democrat socialism isn't the brand that people want. You're listening to 1030 The Voice on KVOI.com. Your trusted local news. I'm Kathleen Wynne. This is Wynn Tucson. We'll be back right after this. Welcome back to Wynn Tucson. And so we are talking to Rick Shafton, political consultant, a really smart guy. And if you have a campaign, you should get him to work with you because he has tricks. How's that? That's pretty broad, right? And you have to hire him, though, to find out what they are, but they work. Rick, is we're looking across Susan Collins' retainer's seat in Maine? Well, it's a toss-up. I mean, it is a Fox News poll out today that has her down to. But I think right now, I think Republicans are at the low point. We haven't really, you know, we've taken the arrows and the campaign hasn't really started, even though the ads may have started.
And I just don't think it's going to really kick in until after Labor Day, but then it's going to be in very high gear, right? Everything. I mean, the focus level. I mean, the number of ads. I'm sure Arizona is getting flooded with ads now, even though your primary is over. But the message is right now. Republicans are on defense, and it's all about... Trump and gas prices, and that's pretty much it, as of today. But there's always two sides to a campaign. And what I learned being on the Democrat side is that they taught me to let the opposition get an early advantage. And then you come in there, because people always want to hear two sides of the story. So... What they would do is just kind of like rope-a-dope in a sense. You just let the opposition talk and talk and talk and then say, okay, they made their case. Then we come in and we make our case. We just have to make our case convincingly, and we have to make it before people actually go out and cast ballots. Correct. Now, but there's also a second side to that. Yes, before people cast ballots, but it's not as much about the people who are going to cast ballots. It's influencing who cast ballots. And what we want is our people to actually vote. It's an off year. It's not president. You know, president, everybody's voting pretty much. So it's, you know, any kind of get out the vote in a presidential year, it's really busy work. They're not coming out to vote for your state senate race. They're coming out to vote for your president, right? That's it. But here, you have governor. So it's. It's down ballot, right? There's people who are not, who voted for president, who are not going to vote for governor. It's the job of Republicans, of course, starting with the top of the ticket, to energize Republicans, the people who voted for Trump to come out. I don't have to worry about, gee, can I win someone over who voted for Camel? No, it's not important. And similarly, for the other side, they don't need to win people who voted for Trump. They just need to keep them home. That's all they need to win. Or they need them to come out and, gee, I can't, you know, I'm a Republican, but I'm not voting for Andy Biggs because I'm a moderate like that clown you picked for Lieutenant Governor, right? Oh, John Giles? They're going to play them. John Giles. Yeah, they're going to play this whole lot. He's not a moderate. He's a Democrat and he registered independent. Yeah, of course, right? Yeah. Well, that's what they all are. And they claim they're moderates, but they're really just these loser, you know, loser rhino Republicans who can't win elections anymore. So they just go off and they're desperate to be somebody pretty much. And that's what they're all about. And by the way, there's some of that with Democrats who go over to our side, too. You have to watch out for some of them. Because, you know, some of them, they're not really on our side. They just have no choice. Politically, they're either on the outs of the Democratic Party or the Democratic Party is on the outs of all voters in their district. So, you know, there's parts of Arizona that had always been Democratic, but they're not anymore.
So all these people who used to be Democrats, suddenly the Republicans, is it out of conviction or is it out of the fact they can't win as Democrats? Right? You know, not really without a principle in this world, unfortunately. Unfortunately. But, I mean, I'm upbeat about the fall because I think our argument is much stronger than their argument. Yes. These people are, and, you know, look, Katie Hobbs cannot distance herself from these DSA crackpots because she is one of them. And if given the chance, if given the State Senate, the State House, she will govern exactly as Abigail Spanberger and all these other left-wing nuts govern. That's a reality. I mean, and anybody says otherwise, oh, no, she's really a moderate. No, she's not really like that. That's what they all say until they become like that.
Exactly. Right? Yes. This is like, there are a bunch of people sitting around Berlin in 1930s. Hitler's not really going to be like that. Come on. It's his campaign rhetoric. He has to say that they got elected. He doesn't have really... No, believe everything. Everything they say. Everything they say. Everything they say. Look at Zohran Mamdani. Socialist lie about everything. Zohran Mamdani. I mean, they have buyers resort. What about the truth. He said exactly what he's going to do. He's a complete Marxist. But the Democratic Party is not the Democratic Party that we knew even 10 years ago. Certainly not the party. I was talking to somebody recently two nights ago about how 20 years ago we did a Democratic primary where we got half the Republicans in the town to switch to Democrat and take off the Democrat mayor. And some of the most right-wing literature ever did 20 years ago. Today, you couldn't do that. First off, Republicans would never vote in a Democratic primary anymore. Right. We'd never do it. And nobody would believe that a Democrat could be a conservative on the slogan, conservative Democrats putting taxpayers first. That was our slogan. You know, it's like it's only 20 years ago now. I know, but even what was five years ago, think about how this has gotten accelerated. I think they've gotten impatient. I think that they overestimated what they could pull off. We have a lot of people involved. We have foreign money. I mean, we really have to do a better job. And we don't like to do that. We don't like to call people out. We don't like to prosecute. We've gotten lazy. We don't like to tell the truth, Kathleen. We don't like to go out there and say, with the Democrats, we can't call them communists. Isn't it great that they're calling themselves communists, so we don't have to? Thank you. There's a gift in all of this. There's a gift in all of this, Rick. But this candidate never said she was a socialist. Well, you know what? We're going to say it. And then when she doesn't deny it, that means, see, what do they say about our candidates? So how come you didn't denounce Charlottesville, you know? Like, well, because I'm running Arizona. But you didn't denounce Charlottesville. You're a racist. Like the game they play. And I noticed I played the game. I was on that side. I love it. I know. That's you. The people that I know that are the best fighters for, well, not all of them, but those that came from the Democrat Party that are now truly Republican. They, because they... Well, I mean, I was going to the right winger. Just as a Democrat would let me do more right-wing stuff for Republicans than what we do. I love it. They're probably like, oh, we can't offend anybody. Democrats like, wow, can we win the election if we attacked a low-income housing project? Yeah, let's do that here, or affordable housing, whatever the heck they're calling it. Ken Paxton. It's a great campaign issue. It's the issue that, look, people, they move, and, you know, they could be second-generation Americans. They buy their own house, they got a little piece of land, and the last thing they was a bunch of people getting it for free.
Right. And that's how they see it. And it's like, I worked hard. I moved out to, you know, to Tucson Springs or whatever your suburban development is out there. And, and they're happy. They got their peace of America. And now somebody's going to go stick a prousing project there. Why? Oh, because everybody has a right to live here. No, they do not have a right to live here. So low-income people do not have a right to live in my suburban town. It's not true. They do not have a right to live here. Well, who's going to clean our houses, working in our restaurants? I don't know. Pay your employees more, and then they can go take Uber over here. Right? Right? 100%. So we're going to finish up. I want to finish up with Ken Paxton and James Talarico. you know, if you believe the polls, hopefully it's the same pollsters that were polling in Wisconsin. Can Ken Pack? He had his best quarter ever. I think he raised $9 million this last quarter. Oh, money's not even a factor there. It's just like, you mean so much money. It's like. overkill. No, but I think Ken Paxton, there's a poll out today. Ken Paxton's up one, Greg Abbott's up three. And again, we're at the low point right now. Okay. So, you know, we're like, oh, gee, he's up and we're at the low point. So I don't see how a guy like James Talarico wins in Texas, just like I didn't see how Beto O'Wark was going to win, Texas. I mean, they're basically the same candidate, pretty much. And you, you, you, I just, I see, it's, We're competitive in the generic ballot. We're holding our own at this point. But remember in 2022 that everybody was going to be this big red wave. We're going to win all these seats. I see this being exact opposite. I see Democrats thinking they're going to win all these seats, and suddenly it's all going to fall apart on them. But the Republican message has to be something that turns us out that says, you need to come out and here's why. And it's been very simple and history repeated, and that's where all this money needs to be spent, telling people why they're not, you know, give me your ballot, but here's why you need to vote. Right. And that messaging needs to be, I mean, everybody just needs to say the same thing. Here's why you need to vote. And, and, and, uh, You know, that's the whole campaign. I wish that, you know, when they were forcing everyone to get the vaccine, that we could somehow force everyone to vote because, but it doesn't work that way. So we have to. It's up to the candidates to make that case. That's what campaigns are about. And also to make the case the other side, why they, you know, maybe shouldn't vote. But that's much harder to do than to make the case to your people, why you should vote. I love it. Really, we just have to focus on our people. What the advertising might do is to demoralize people on the other side. That's the most you can do to stop people from voting, by demoralizing them. Right? Because it's all like who's fired up and who's excited, who's not.
We have come to the end of our time because that's how this goes. It always goes fast with you because there's so much to talk about and you know so much. But I'm going to call on you as we get into this process and I'm probably going to call on you after I get off the air because I do have a couple candidates that want to employ you. So we'll talk. I love you and thank you and keep up the great work, Rick Shafton. All right. Pima County. Catch your son. All right. Good afternoon, everybody. Thank you, sir. All right.
