If you're a duck on Utah's Talk Radio 1059, K&RS, everywhere on the IHeart radio app. I'm Citizen Hughes. And I'm Rod Arquette. It's so good to be with you on this Friday before we go to our next interview. Bill O'Reilly has weighed in on the Democrats' lunacy right now when it comes to socialist. Listen what he had to say. A whole bunch of things are cutting his way and Republicans' way because of the lunacy, and I mean that word literally. on the far left. This hung person doesn't want Thanksgiving. This is what she's telling her constituents in Wisconsin. You can't have Thanksgiving because we're such an evil nation. We shouldn't be thankful for anything. I mean, once you get into that zone, the regular folks, not the ideological zombies, okay, they're not going to go for you, doesn't matter what party you're in, okay? So no one can predict. Things will change. I don't believe the American public are going to buy the socialist communist lunacy. I don't think they will be either, Greg. That's Bill O'Reilly on News Nation last night. He's very hard. I mean, it's very hard to defend. And I think that even in Michigan, where you saw Abdul El-Sayed win, he didn't break 50%. Yeah, that's true. So there's that. Well, let's dig into the base of the Democratic Party and where it stands today. Joining us on our Any Hour Newsmaker line is James Johnson. He is co-founder of J.L. Partners. James, how are you? Welcome to the Rod and Greg Show. Thanks for joining us. I'm very good. Thanks for having me. James, give us, you wrote about the truth about the Democratic base. Are they all a bunch of loons? Are there some common sense people within the Democratic Party? Well, it's fascinating because the Democrat politicians are a lot more extreme than the Democrat voters. We've done some research into this. I mean, many organizations have. And you see consistently that actual grassroots Democrat voters, okay, yes, they do want things like more progressive positions on social issues. And yes, they want higher taxes on big business. I mean, you know, they're Democrats. That's hardly surprising.
But they are resistant to this sort of more extreme stuff on, for example, medical treatment for transgender treatments for minors. Then they're critical of the idea that the police should be defunded. And they really don't like some of the language that we've heard in these Midwest races on things like disowning Thanksgiving. So I think what we're seeing is a bit of a backlash among Democrats, let alone the wider public, to some of these more extreme and Democrat politician voices. You know, I agree with everything you said. Here's my one question. And this was the one, I don't know, data point that made me think maybe the socials have something here. And it goes back to that Michigan race with Al Saeed, where he spent a total of $7 million, the next candidate who only lost by one percentage point, but spent $56 million. And from where I come from, Campaign funds are the, you know, the mother's milk to campaign election success. When you spend seven, the other side spends $56 million, the $7 million funded candidate wins. Was that a high young voter turnout? Like, how do you explain that part? That's the part that I stare at and wonder. Yeah, look, I think it's basically, you know, whether you're right or left, if you've got a message that resonates and a message that reaches out of people and excites certain groups, you can beat the money. I mean, most Republican campaigns have less money than Democrat campaigns, but they often still win in lots of parts of the country. So I'm not sure it's a left or right thing, but it definitely is a message thing. And look, you're right. You know, I'm not standing here telling you that Democrats do not have a portion of voters. who are pretty extreme on this stuff and will happily vote for somebody like Abdul El-Sayed. But it's just not the majority. And you said it yourself, you know, he didn't break 50% in Michigan. And that to me, also let's take a step back here. You know, this is about Democrat primary elections. Those are the most engaged, the most online, the most sort of likely to have extreme views of all the Democrats out there. These guys have to go up. against Republican candidates in a general election. If they can not hit 50% in a Democrat primary, well, I don't think they're going to do particularly well when it goes to the general. Very good point, James. James, why don't we hear more of the, I guess you would call them establishment? Democrats speaking out against the radical left within their own party, which, you know, according to reports, is growing. I mean, the only one I've heard about is Rahm Emanuel, who basically called them nut jobs today. I mean, are they afraid to speak out, or are they thinking, well, when it gets to general election, people will wake up and we'll vote against these people. What are your thoughts there? Ryan C. Yeah, I think establishment Democrats have, they've had a real problem exciting their grassroots. Yeah, yeah. And they've had a real problem really being able to get a vision across that isn't just we have the argument that we have a better chance of winning. I mean, you saw this in the last few presidential elections. I mean, you know, Joe Biden was a moderate Democrat. You could argue Kamala Harris was a moderate Democrat. Hillary Clinton was a moderate Democrat. You know, they beat away more extreme left candidates in their primaries. But their campaigns were, well, they weren't the most exciting, were they? You know, they were sort of more about, almost more about being the fact they were moderate rather than actually about what they do for the country. So I think that's one of the problems they've really got. They failed to sort of put that, put that sort of narrative together. And they sort of think, well, actually, maybe we're better off being quiet than saying too much. You know, so, you know, Senator John Fetterman, he's been consistently calling this out. I've seen polls that show that amongst Democrats, he's highly unpopular, but amongst Pennsylvanians and likely voters, he's very popular. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out in a Democrat primary when he does run for reelection. But, but. Are some of these, to your point, if they're just so bad, if this Abdul El-Sayed is just hard to defend, he can't get even 50% of his registered active Democrats to vote for him, you almost think that, well, that seat's going to swing Republican. Are there any other candidates out there that you think represent such an extreme of one side or the other that they've really put up their worst candidate for the midterms? So Michigan is the only one that really stands out to me. There were these fascinating group of Fox News polls over the last couple of weeks. And they're really bad reading for Republicans. They have Democrats leading in a lot of the Senate races. They've got Democrats leading in Texas, in Ohio, in Georgia and Maine, you know, almost everywhere you look. The exception is Michigan, where the Republican is leading. And, you know, we really could have a situation in which Republicans flip. of all places, Michigan because of this candidate. But look, I will say one thing, most of the competitive Senate races, Democrats have better candidates. It really is only Michigan that's looking worrying for them. And the other thing that I've been looking into is that in terms of House races, the DSA candidates, the Democrat Socialist Alliance candidates, there tend to be in safer Democrat. seats. There's actually very few seats where they're standing that are super competitive. There's a couple like Michigan 7 and a few others, but broadly speaking, they've been quite savvy with their choices. James, fascinating insight. Thank you very much for your time and enjoy the weekend. Thank you. Thanks so much. Thank you. Honor, any hour newsmaker line. That's James Johnson. He is the co-founder of J.L. Partners talking about the truth about the Democratic base. We'll see if that base comes out in the general election, which I think it probably will, Greg, for the midterms, and we'll see how these socialist, radical left candidates survive. If you take our guests word for it, and I do, I actually think he's right. How embarrassing for Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom, Pete Buttigieg, who've been courting.
these democrat socialists and and saying repeating back and parroting back all their insane positions of getting rid of the electoral college even even abolishing uh the senate things like that you have those three candidates potential gubernator presidential candidates on the democrat side acting like the democrat socialists were the so important you didn't see really anyone standing up to him other than John Fetterman until recently uh and so i just think for the point he made It doesn't look like they're very strong at all. But where were the Democrats when, you know, before these elections, before these primaries, especially the one before Wisconsin, where I think that's where the bloom came off the rows with these socialists? All right. More coming up. It is The Rod and Greg Show with you on Talk Radio, 1059, KNRS. Rod and Greg with you on this Friday afternoon and Utah's Talk Radio, 1059, KNS Live Everywhere on the I Heart Radio app. Make sure you download it today. I'm Rod Arquette. I'm a citizen Greg Hughes. Just want to urge people again, Greg, with, I don't know where it's raining now. I mean, it poured here about a half hour ago. If you're out driving, who? Be careful. Just be careful that standing water. Be careful the cars that are next year. Be careful the wave of water. They can hit your windshield and your windshield wipers can't remove the water fast enough. So you go through a period of where you can't see where you're driving. And so. All those variables exist when you get these downpours that hit so hard so quickly. And under the overpasses, that's where the water can kind of collect and cause a... You hit one of those things going too fast. You better hang on. Well, my experience yesterday was going, you know, going southbound. Yeah. That the lanes that had the most standing water were the HOV lane and the fast lane. You know how I feel about how much I love the fast lane. Those lanes aren't going fast. Those lanes actually had some hazards to them. Yeah. So... I don't know if that's the way it is today, but yesterday, going home after the show, those were the most perilous parts of I-15. Yeah, and the one thing I've learned over the years, water will do what it wants to do. Yes, it damages everything. Go look at the Grand Canyon, okay? You know, a little stream, I'm sure, at one point, but, you know, it really got away from it. Yeah. So just be careful out there as you drive you tonight. All right, let's talk more about the coverage, the media's coverage of socialism. Apparently this is a new cause, Greg, that they've fallen in love with. Well, yeah, and I hope they run with it. I don't want to interrupt them. You go for it. I think that a lot of this is stuff that I always thought they believe. They just wouldn't tell us their true agenda. They're right out open on it now. So just, you know, you keep talking. Well, let's talk more about this coverage. Joining us on our Any Hour Newsmaker line is Tim Graham. He's executive editor of NewsBusters. Tim, you've been following how the media is covering the socialist movement within the Democratic Party. What have you found out, Tim? This is all about. taking control of the Congress so that they can ruin President Trump any way they can get there. You can hear the Democrats where they always say this thing like, well, we're for a big tent. Well, the whole thing is we need a majority. We want a majority in the Senate. We want a majority in the House. We want to impeach Trump again. That's what they want. They want as much power as they can grab.
So, you know, our local media in Utah does this. So you've got a local chapter of the progress now, the Utah and for, what is it, Utah's, what do they call themselves, Rod? Anyway, so the Alliance for Better Utah. Yeah, Alliance for a Better Utah. That's the progress now. That's the mothership. They're there, and they have a state chapter in most states. Our media continues to call Alliance for Better Utah a watchdog group, not a left leaning, not a left of center group, not a part of progress now, but a watchdog group. How much impact when they put names like watchdog group? They take a socialist, call them progressive. I mean, it must bear fruit. It must let unacceptable candidates or causes become more acceptable. They're always taking their own position and presenting it as mainstream, as rational, it's almost as scientific. They're for accountability. They're watchdogs. The joke I always make is the epic political battles of our time are between the right wingers and the nonpartisans. Because that's the way they paint. Tim, do, is the media so mad and so angry at Donald Trump that, okay, socialism, who cares? Communism, who cares? As long as it gets Donald Trump out of the White House. Is that their ultimate goal, Tim? Yeah, or at least to impair him from getting anything done. They'll start with that. But they ultimately, they hate him so much they want him wrecked. They don't want to just defeat him. They want him wrecked. They want him, uh, shamed. They want him, his reputation destroyed. And what drives them insane is that they've been out there screaming Hitler, Hitler, Hitler for 10 years. And some people don't believe them. Uh, and that's, that's what frustrates them so much. They, they could not believe that they threw everything at him. And he won again in 2024. So it's true. And I think that he, you know, he doesn't respect the swamps gatekeepers. On either side, Republican Democrats, even the, you know, the columnists, he never looked for their approval, sought their approval. I think they're all angry about that. And so you have that Trump to arrangement syndrome. But I think it's going to extend beyond Trump into the next Republican nominee. But let me ask you this. So Hong, they'll say, because she opposed, you know, Thanksgiving at some point. That was her big, Killies heel. And they asked her on the day she was electing. Do you have anything to say, I support Thanksgiving? Because she knew this was a big problem. You have MS now, now introducing Democrat candidates at one. And the first question out of their mouth is, do you support Thanksgiving? And when they say yes, all is for, now they may as well be Ronald Reagan running for office because they now support Thanksgiving. How much can the media?
You know, dumb it down to one single issue or something as intuitive as, yeah, I think you need to like Thanksgiving if you're, it's one of our American staples, okay? It's Americana. Do they get away with it or does it just become comical to the general public at some point? Well, it clearly became comical there in Wisconsin, and it can happen for Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan, who also put out a hot post about Thanksgiving. We've got Peggy Flanagan over in Minnesota in the Senate race suggesting that Mount Rushmore is a testament to genocide. You know, this is, this is who we're facing. And yes, and if you're on MS now, what they try to do is, yes, they're engaged in, how can we make sure you sound normal? So they'll take on issues. They think are trouble. In Flanagan's case, she was lieutenant governor when all this massive fraud was going on under Tim Walz. And it's like, how do you feel about the fraud? I think it's very bad. You know, they're, they're trying to. look at their vulnerabilities and try to shore them up on their vulnerabilities. That's the sound you get. Bubba Wallace here from 2311 racing. On the track, my car's look is everything. But today, I'm talking about more than just paint schemes. I'm talking about my favorite games at Chumba Casino. Well, you know, the media is not going to help here at all, Tim. How do we get to the general voter, the regular everyday common sense America and explain to them these people who say they're progressives and they want to unite when, in fact, they don't? I mean, how do we get that? How does word get to the everyday voter that don't be misled by what you're hearing in the media? I mean, what do we have to do? Well, part of it is, you know, there is obviously person-to-person communication, but there's also this is what they hate about the television advertisement. So we're going to see here in Michigan, in the middle of Michigan and Michigan State football games, clips of Abdul saying football is toxic masculinity. You know, that's going to happen. And it's, yeah, it's just as bad as hating Thanksgiving. is that it's one thing to say, oh, they want Medicare for all. What is that? That sounds scary. That doesn't sound as wacky to people as Valentine's Day as a capitalist holiday. You know, there's just some of the things that these people have said just sound crazy. And so.
It's not going to all be about policy, but those sorts of things tell you about someone's ideology, that they're not, they don't, not for normal things. Let me tell you what, Tim, if Mike Rogers campaign does not run those type of ads, you just talked about in every Michigan, Michigan State football game, that campaign is making a huge mistake. Detroit Lions games. That campaign is making a huge mistake, aren't they, Tim? Yeah, they have to know that's coming. And then there's this weird ad today where Abdul is trying to be the guy in blue's clues. I guess this was in a previous campaign. And I was like, what on earth do you think you're doing there? Because we all know that the Muslims think the blue the dog is richly impure. So it's very strange. You know, they'll sit there and go, did you see the ad where he was water skiing? How cool. You know, that's what the left is going to try to do. And Tim Grant with NewsBusters talking about how the media is covering up for the radical left instead using the term progressive. Apparently, it sounds better. Yeah. Yeah. It's just more power. Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right, more coming up. Rod and Greg with you. That's good news update. Now here's Abby. Well, we've got another great hour coming your way. Here in just a minute, we're going to be talking about a rather bizarre story out of the state of Washington. This is an interesting one, folks. This is. Also coming up our list back Friday segments, and our CEOs You Should Know segment today, we're talking with Dave DeRosher from the other side of academy. Love this guy. I know him. He is a leader of leaders. He is one of the best out there, and we'll talk to Dave a little bit later on in the show. All right, there are odd stories, and then there are odd stories, right? This one may take the cake. We are going to have words in a sentence that I never thought the individual words would ever fit in one sentence. But you're going to hear it, I think, as we explore this issue. It's about a Christian family in Washington. They're now asking the U.S. Supreme Court in a case involving trans insanity, a wild case, and joining us on our any hour newsmaker line to talk about that is Joseph McKinnon, staff writer of the Blaze. Joseph, thanks for joining us tonight. What on earth is this story all about Joseph? Well, another one of these consequential cases where people of conscience, are being compelled in blue states to violate their consciences and their deeply held religious convictions. And they're not going to take it. And in this case, they've stood their ground for several years and are hoping the Supreme Court will hear their case and potentially even strike down or at least take a closer look at an anti-discrimination law that's been used as a weapon against.
Christians and other people of faith. So if you don't mind me, take me back a couple years. Please do. Please do. Yeah, yeah. So 2020 rolls around this Korean family, they're Christian immigrants who came to the United States hoping for relatively more religious liberty. They operated Olympus Spa in Washington State for decades. And this guy, and I do mean guy, this slovenly fellow named Caleb Richardson, or sorry, Richmond. He now calls himself Haven Wilvich. He was at one point married to a woman. He allegedly is denied service to this spa. Now, this spa is sex segregated. It's women only. The employees are all women. It serves women and girls, girls as young as 13. And it's a nude spa. It's based on these Jim Gil Bang Korean wellness complexes. Very traditional, very nice, you know, therapeutic for the ladies. This guy has, well, he's anatomically correct. He still has his penis. Yes. And that's effectively the only thing he can't have going into this place because you can be a transvestite post-op. And ideally a woman in every other case. But no, he has not undergone surgery at this stage. He's denied and he makes a fuss. He files a complaint to the Washington Human Rights Commission, so called. And he says that he was denied on the basis of his gender identity. Now, under state law, you can't do that. You can't discriminate or deny accommodation on the basis of sex, race, and originally sexual orientation, but so-called gender identity somewhere along the line got rolled into that. And so even though they're technically discriminating on the basis of anatomy, he says, no, they're discriminated because he's a trune. And so the Human Rights Commission cracks down. They send their commissar and they threaten this family with prosecution. And they don't care that there's no record of this guy ever showing up. They don't care what a Jim Jill Bang is. They say, you basically bend the knee or we're going to prosecute you. The family, they're compelled, effectively compelled to sign this agreement. saying that they'll comply, but that they reserve the right to sue and they do sue. The Lee family, son Lee is the patriarch. I believe his wife is Myeong Li. He sues in March 22, and it's been kicked around the courts in the years since. And I don't know if you've heard tell of this Judge Lawrence Van Dyke.
He's a Trump appointee. But after a district court judge dismisses the case, he gets dismissed by the Ninth Circuit, and then the family petitions for rehearing. And three judge panel throws it out, but Van Dyke is on this panel, and he sounds off. He says, well, pardon my French, pardon my French, but he goes, this is a case about Swain Dix. He lambased his colleagues going, and I quote, It feels like the supposed adults in the room have collectively lost their minds. And you should read his opinion because it's hysterical. The case is sad. His opinion, dissenting opinion is hysterical. But the long and short of it is... Sorry to keep going, but this family, they're sticking out, and this is not about notoriety or fame. And they can exploit loopholes in the system, but they don't want to cheat their way through. They just don't want to be discriminated against in their adopted state. And so there's now a chance, a very good chance. that this will go to the Supreme Court that ruled on the committee, the Rurled in 303, a creative, the Ruled and Masterpiece Cake Shop, and there's a good chance that they won't their fight. culminating this final battle will prove victorious. So here, I never thought I'd say, you know, traditional Korean women only nude spa. I didn't know, I didn't even know that was a thing, didn't understand. But I can't imagine a business enterprise where the distinction could be more, there could be a greater contradiction just by their business model that this person does not belong in this traditional Korean women only nude spa if it's someone that has male parts. My question is this, that's being tied to maybe, you know, your freedom of religion and your, in your moral convictions, but it sounds awfully, it sounds similar to me of the news lately that you have some former NBA players that are now making this declaration that they identify as women, Ennis Cantor and another NBA, former NBA player. It sounds like they have every, under the vague rules, just like the rules that Washington states holding this Korean women's nude-only spa to, they can just go, if they affirm it and they believe it, they're in. That legal fight that they're going to go through at the WNBA might not be a religious conviction fight. That might be just your definitions would let them in. Is there any other kind of approach other than religious freedom that says this just on its face is not? is not a woman. There's just no way it's woman because I think the WMBA is going to have to define a woman to some degree.
Well, I believe free exercise clause is a big one. And that's the core argument before the Supreme Court, if it goes to the Supreme Court in this case. And I know that you have like sororities, women's organizations that are allowed to discriminate. And so I don't see why the WNBA can't make that case. But there's something even more pernicious here. And it goes kind of beyond the law. I know those NBA players who are. signing up for putting their names in the hat, they're trying to make a point and a great point. But a lot of the people who are trying to exploit the anti-discrimination laws around the country, in many cases, they're degenerates. Like this guy, I don't want to read too much speculation, but Richmond says after he cajoles this. family-owned Christian spa, he goes, I did it. The main naked lady spa in the area, he got them to change their policies. And so, you know, obviously there's a role for the courts. And by public opinion, you know, going back to Tolkville, like that's one of the most powerful things in the country to, you know, draw circles around these personalities and really, um, crack down. And you look at the polls. Americans are overwhelmingly against us. This is an 80-20 issue, if that. So whether it's in the WNBA, whether it's here in Washington, you know, you need a multi-front effort to really push back. Joseph McKinnon from the Blaze talking about this story. That's a weird one. This woman-only nude spot is leading the charge for religious liberties. There we go, baby. Who knew? Right on. Yes. All right. More coming up. Our Listenback Friday segments begin in our next segment right here on Utah's talk radio 105-9 canteris. Ready to put a little spin on your day? BGW Group void where prohibited by law CTs and C is 21 plus sponsored by Trumpa Casino Well, they say the shine is coming off this a little bit as more and more Americans learn about socialism. Bloom is off the rose. That's what I was thinking. Bloom is off the rose right now. Well, what is going on here? We had a chance earlier this week. And as part of our Listenback Friday segment, we want to let you hear it again. A conversation we had with John Daniel Davidson. He's a senior correspondent, of course, with the federalist. He said, the Democratic Socialism of America is not about socialism, Greg, but about... Third Worldism, a term I've never heard before. I think it's an important distinction because I think socialism, even communism, isn't the pejoratives that they used to be. I mean, when you hear those before growing up, we all went, we just would recoil instantly because we saw what that really looked like. I think our young people, they haven't seen that as much or understand as much. So it looks like something maybe intriguing or something. It'd be like talking about eight track tapes. Like no one knows. So they don't like them.
Or they don't know that they don't. But when you say third worldism, I think we know what that is. I think that brings an image in your mind far more clear. And I think it is true. I think it relates the same. So I think the vernacular matters. That will wake you up. And we had a conversation with John about this and asked him the difference between socialism and third worldism. So, of course, the DSA are the Democratic Socialists of America. who are obviously taking over the Democratic Party establishment. You have candidates like Zohran Mamdani and this guy who won the Michigan Senate primary, a Democratic primary, Abdul El-Sayed. These are people who describe themselves as socialists or communists, and indeed, you know, they have these radical ideas. And they're very much out of step with the American mainstream. But the problem with them is not the socialism per se. Or at least that's not what is causing people to vote for them. It's not like people who support DSA-affiliated candidates have become convinced of Marx's dialectical materialism. And they're like, yes, let's have communism. No, the effect that I describe is it's more third worldism. And what I mean by that is decades of bringing people to this country from the third world, which has brought a kind of third world. tribal politics with it, especially from Muslim majority countries. And we see this everywhere. We see large concentration of immigrants and immigrant communities from the third world. The politics that they bring with them is very much a politics that is outside of the traditional American mainstream. And that's what I'm talking about. So interesting. I just looked this up on Google. So Adolf Hitler's political party he affiliated with was the socialist German Workers Party, which in 1920 just called themselves the National Socialists. So you can call it a socialist, but it's a communism. It can be anything to you. And I like what you're saying about third worldism because I think that you're pointing out the type of chaos and the type of mob mentality that comes with the people that come from third world countries and what they're trying to create through this DSA. Isn't that the case also that if you let them have their way, we would become a third world country. It's almost as if they're advocating for the very things that Cuba looks like or North Korea looks like or some of these other countries where you cannot call it a modern Western civilization. It is third world or just, it's terrible. It is third worldism. Yeah. Yeah, and corruption is really kind of at the heart of it. What we would call corruption is at the heart of it. So you see under conditions of mass immigration, the immigrant groups that arrive, whether it's here or Great Britain or France or anywhere that has mass migration from the third world, the immigrants create versions of their home countries in the countries that they emigrate to.
Okay, and so we see this in Minnesota that has seen over the past two decades large numbers of Somali Muslims immigrate to the state of Minnesota and particularly concentrated in the city of Minneapolis. And of course, infamously now, we have discovered this vast... corrupt fraud network of Somali's immigrant and the second and third generations of the immigrants, creating fraudulent Medicaid businesses, defrauding federal and state welfare programs to the tune of billions and billions of dollars. There's a widespread scheme in the Somali community. But what they're doing, and I get into this a little bit in the piece, is They are doing things that according to their culture are virtues. We call it fraud and see it as a vice. But in Somali culture, you know, defrauding the government or taking from some other clan or group to benefit your family or your clan is seen as a laudable practice. There's nothing wrong with that, right? And so that's the kind of mentality that they're bringing when they come here. And that really is what defines kind of a lot of these DSA policies. The candidates might dress it up in the language of socialism or Marxism. But really what it comes down to is a kind of tribalism, taking from an outgroup to benefit the in-group. And that is a third-world mentality that marks third-world societies and increasingly immigrant communities in the United States. John, this third-worldism, are they looking at the United States saying, hey, this is easy. I mean, you know, we don't care what their rules are. The U.S. is easy for this fraud, and we're going to take advantage of it. Is it that easy for them? Well, they don't have any scruples, right? Like the fact that it's against the law or is against the rules, it isn't much of a deterrent for people who come from societies where that kind of public corruption is endemic, right? Somalia is essentially a failed state. And so you see similar things with people coming from societies like Venezuela, which is also a failed state, corrupt government. It's the same with many countries in Africa, of African immigrants who come here. And it's not, I'm not saying to sort of demonize immigrants. This is an observation about how society works in many other places in the world outside of the West. This is just how life is. Fraud, corruption, trying to sort of, you know, get an advantage over and against an outgroup to the benefit of your clan or your family is normal. There's nothing wrong with it. And so that's the attitude that they bring here. So no wonder, and this gets back to the DSA, no wonder they support political party and political candidates who promise to take from one group and give to another.
That is in accord with their values, their cultural values and principles. So here's the thing. We're a democratically elected republic. Okay. So there's not more of them than there are of everyday Americans. And so my question is, are they just really good? Like El-Saheed becomes a Democrat nominee. Are they just really good at selling their agenda or creating an agenda to voters that really is contrary to the voters' own self-interest? Or... Is voter integrity finding its way into here where did Hung really lose it yet last night? Did the bloom come off the rows with this? Or did the five, you know, thumb drives have something to do with it? What? How are they seeing such success in a country where the majority, the people get to vote and decide what's in their best interest? Yeah. Well, I think it's a mix of all of those things that vary by circumstance. You know, I mentioned this in my piece. If you look at the. at the exit polling from the New York mayoral race where Zohran Mamdani was elected, you know, a large majority of immigrants in New York voted for Zohran Mamdani and a majority of native-born New Yorkers did not vote for him, right? And so it's not always the case that there are more of us than there are of them. You know, when you have mass immigration for 20 or 30 years. at the level that we have had both legal and illegal. And remember, some of these blue states and blue municipalities, you know, facilitate the voting for, even for people who don't have legal, the legal status to be able to vote. Then you get kind of these strange electoral outcomes. On our newsmaker line, John Daniel Davidson. Senior correspondent with a federalist talking about third world isom. Our listen back Friday segments continue right here on the Rod and Greg show on this Friday afternoon and Utah's Talk Radio 1059, KNRS. Let's talk about our neighboring state to the east. We're talking about Colorado, which used to be a very red state. And over time, and you've warned about this, that Utah could be headed in that direction, has now become a very blue state, kind of a wacky state in many ways. And it was a red state. At one time. In the early 2000s, late 90s, well, through the 90s, and then early 2000s, but now it's far from that. It is. Well, Colorado has a state-funded grooming program for children who want to trans. Talking about that right now is Brecken Thees. He is a correspondent with the Federalist, and we talked with him earlier this week about it and asked him what Colorado is doing when it comes to the issue of transgenderism. Yeah, well, you know, Colorado, which is one of the more radical states in the country with this sort of mutilation, child mutilation stuff, is... spending millions of dollars on government programs, social media influencer campaigns, medical school curriculins, everything you can think of to basically from, you know, 18 months old essentially to teenage years and beyond push children into first identifying as a different gender.
then you know taking puberty blockers then these cross-sex hormones then getting surgeries i mean they've got this entire infrastructure set up to uh to basically indoctrinate people into believing this and then and then having them actually follow through and mutilate their own bodies and it's really pretty sinister stuff Hey, it is Ryan Sechrest here. So is this report what was going on at that time in America where this was becoming so socially, it was almost popular. It was almost a popular sentiment to have to mutilate, you know, to have children go through this. Is it looking back or is Colorado still doing, or is this still happening in Colorado right now? This, I believe, is still happening in Colorado. They've been, they've not slowed down. I mean, just a couple months ago, I was reporting that they're still passing laws to enforce this even more from a different angle on, like, you'll win a custody battle if you promise to transition your child. And the other person in a divorce can never see their child again if they say that they're uncomfortable with that. I mean, Colorado really hasn't slowed down, you know. only let's see yesterday i guess medicare uh cms announced that they were stopping taxpayer funded um uh federally but you know of course a lot of these are state um programs now it is interesting because one of these programs at least the i matter program started under a lot of the COVID money, and it was sort of this pilot program. But since 2024, that's been made permanent, and it's been, you know, entirely state funded. You know, the federal funding is one aspect, but the state funding, which Colorado seems very, very interested in doing, is still there. I reckon this I-Matter organization and the umbrella that it covers. I mean, this indoctrination of these young children in Colorado begins at a very early... early age, does it not? It does. I mean, you know, medical students there are told that at 18 months old, the child can start understanding, you know, gender and gender identity by a couple years old. They can start deciding for themselves which gender they think they are. The I-Matter program is really the tip of the spear for grooming and convincing children that they're a different gender because while it doesn't actually provide any of the...
medical resources in terms of like you know getting drugs or the surgeries or things like that it is a free health care program that offers free therapy sessions to children specifically that is They have a confidentiality waiver that strips parents of consent around the age 12. They advertise it as having zero parental involvement, and they will point their patients or what have you. toward the right, you know, institutions to end up getting the medicalized, you know, next step. I mean, they had 469, quote-unquote, gender affirming care related meetings, and three of them involved children ages five and younger. 46 of them were children between the ages of six and nine and 40 were included children with special needs. Now we know with this gender affirming care stuff that. particularly autism there that autism is like a target demographic for convincing kids that that that they're a different gender and so you know you have to wonder if they're if they're just saying you know well we got you know we can convince this autistic child who might you know you might really like overly focus on that as autistic children are are known to do um that they need to get, you know, all these sex change operations. So a little times passed since this became a thing and you saw this, and this is so comprehensive in Colorado, the argument that these are, you're just talking decimal dust in terms of sampling of people that are transitioning or their gender is fluid. This would argue, this kind of effort argues that it, that they at least see it as a goal to be much larger. But my question is this, there's been. There's been cases of violence, people that have been violent that have transitioned and have acted out in violent ways, going back to Catholic schools they attended, and maybe there's just in Nashville, things like that. You also see some lawsuits starting to emerge, where some of these now adults are saying, this should not have happened to me as a minor. What is the consequences? Is none of this occurring to the people in Colorado that there are legal consequences and even potentially violent consequences from what they're doing? Yeah, I mean, I think on one, on the one hand, they want to either ignore that or they simply will not make the connection. I mean, the kind of ideology seems to be outweighing the, you know, the danger of the ideology, if you will. I'm not sure that there have been any. tangible consequences. Yeah, you're right that there are lawsuits. There are lawsuits popping up for what they're called detransitioners who say that they were basically taken advantage of as young children. I actually went to a meeting with Secretary of Education Linda McMahon where she was meeting with a bunch of detransitioners who talked about specifically how schools and mostly public schools, but not entirely public schools, are this sort of ground zero for convincing kids.
that you know as soon as they start presenting as as gender confused the school doubles and triples down saying you know do you want to change your name do you want to start dressing differently we won't tell your parents those kinds of those kinds of things that really enforce this stuff and that points them to the medicalized path. This is just in Colorado. That's happening separate from this iMatter situation and the rest of what Colorado is doing. They're really setting up like an actual state infrastructure to get more and more people to do this. Brecken Theats from the federalist talking about Colorado state funded. grooming of children. It's scary. And it's just to the east of us, Greg. I mean, what are they doing? I think the future consequences, we're seeing them in real time now, but I think it's just, it is really going to be problematic on so many fronts going forward to what they're doing to children in that state and what they're organized and what they're trying to continue to do, even with what we know now. Frightening for those poor kids. All right, more coming up on the Rod and Greg show. CEOs You Should Know. It's a conversation that we have here at IHeartMedia with some of the top business leaders in Utah. We take a minute to explore the ups and downs of creating and running their business, and it's so great to have the CEO and co-founder of the Other Side Academy, Dave DeRosher, on CEOs You Should Know Today. Dave, how are you? Welcome. I'm great, Rod. It's good to be here, and it's wonderful to see you. You look younger now than the last time I saw you. Thank you. I appreciate that. That was a few years ago, so I don't know how you're doing it. We're doing it just fine. You know, Dave, we want to explore what you do at the other side of an academy and your relationship with the people you have there. But before we do that, we always like to have little fun with our guest on CEOs you should know. We call it you in 60. So I'm going to fire up a stopwatch 60 seconds and rapidly fire some questions at you. You ready to go? Let's roll. All right. Here we go. You in 60 with Dave DeRosher. Cats or dogs? Dogs. Early riser or night owl? 4 a.m. Wow. Star Trek or Star Wars? Star Wars. Pancakes or waffles? Ooh, that depends. But I'd probably have to go with waffles. All right. Smartest person you know. Joseph Grinney. Favorite song? Ooh, that would have to be. The band is Cedar and the song is gasoline. Okay. Childhood Hero. Childhood hero. I think it would be Pete Rose. I'm a diehard baseball fan, and he was my hero. And you're still upset? He's not in the Hall of Fame. Really? He earned it. Superman or Batman? Favorite song? Gasoline by Cedar. Okay, there we go. If you could have one superpower, what would it be? The ability to influence people for good. Prefer first sunrise or sunset? Sunrise. Beetles or stones? Stones. Chocolate or vanilla? Vanilla. First job. First job. Avenue three pizza and sauce.
There you go. We get to know you a little bit, Dave. It's great to have you answer those questions. Have a little fun with you. All right, Dave, let's get into what the other side of my academy is all about, because I know of the organization. You guys do great work, but what is the other side of academy if you want to explain it to someone? The other side academy is a 30-month-long residential life skills and vocational training school. And when I say 30 months long, we have to juxtapose that against the average model, which is 30-60 or 90 days. Or 30 months, minimum stay. The other side academy's average student has been arrested 25.6 times. Wow. No one gets arrested. Point six. It's just the aggregate total. But what we are is we're an opportunity for people not just to get clean and sober. That's easy to do, but to experience whole person change. And whole person change takes time. The problem is in this country with the model that we're accustomed to and the mental model that we're locked in says 30, 60 or 90 treatment facility. Well, nobody can change in 30, 60 or 90 days. It just doesn't happen. happen, especially someone who's been actively using and a criminal lifestyle for 10, maybe 20 years or longer. So we're an opportunity for people to come and learn to tell the truth, learn to be honest, learn to be responsible, learn to be accountable, and learn to have integrity. Because, Rod, if you have integrity, nothing else matters. And if you don't, nothing else matters. What do you mean by whole person change? What does that look like? What that means is, and I want to be careful how I say this, because I don't want to offend anybody, but I want to be able to tell the truth. Drug addicts inherently. And if you've been arrested 25 times, you didn't get arrested for singing too loud in the church choir. We become liars and cheaters and thieves and manipulators and really the worst version of ourselves when we're drug addicts and we're living in a lifestyle. Whole person change means we address those behaviors. We address them. We call them out. We let you know what you're doing. We ask you to take a look at your current behaviors, whatever you might be doing at the other side academy. Look at the patterns in your life. You used to do this a couple years ago when you were on the street using every day. Now you're doing it here and you don't even have drugs to blame it on. So we have to be able to address those behaviors. And if we take the drug addict off the street or out of jail and we help them with the whole person change process and they become the 2.0 version of themselves, we solve the drug problem. We never even address it. Dave, you don't force people to do this. They have to decide that they want change. I heard one story that they come to your place. They have to sit on a bench, and nobody may talk to them for a little while because it makes them think about what they're about to do. Is that right, Dave? So the two ways that you can come to us. You can walk through our front door. We are open 24-7-365. There's a bench by the front door. Everybody takes a seat on the bench. And when they sit on the bench, they're looking at this big poster on the wall. of our principles, our beliefs. They're watching that. That bench is strategically placed by the front door because it's the portal between your old life and your new one. Do you want to go back out and continue to commit a slow suicide, or do you want to start your life all over again and have a fresh start? They don't usually sit there long, and then we bring them in and we interview them. So the two ways. Walk through the front door, take a scene on the bench. The other way is you write us a letter from the county jail. You're in the county jail. You're fighting a case. Could be some county time you're looking at or a very lengthy prison sentence. We go to all the county jails. We do the interviews. If we accept you, you get a letter of acceptance. You can take to your prosecutor, your DA, and ultimately your judge has discretion. And he or she can then sentence you to the other side academy in lieu of.
going back to prison with a very lengthy prison sentence suspended over your head. So it's an alternative to prison. Those are the two ways you find us. Dave, let me ask you this. How can you apply as to how you work with the people who come to you and as a CEO of a private Leon or a company doing other types of businesses? Can some of the techniques you use be applied to employees of other businesses? Absolutely. How so? So we are currently, we've started, I'm trying to remember. Give me one second. The Leadership Institute where we are actually training other companies because what we've learned over the years is when companies come to see us, whether it's the medical profession, whether it's law enforcement, we literally trained in the South Salt Lake Police Department a couple years ago, all 95 of their officers. Who would have thunk that the ex-felons and ex-drug addicts would be training the police department on accountability? But we did. So we're training a lot of different organizations because what we do that's different than most organizations is we love you enough. to tell you the truth. We look you square in the eye when something's going on and you're doing something and we tell you the truth about that behavior. And the reason why corporate America is sick is because they don't do that. We're so concerned with people's feelings that we don't want to tell them the truth. So we have to step back and ask ourselves. Are we helping people or hurting people with that mentality? So at the other side academy, we tell you the truth. And if you want to help people, you tell them the truth. You want to help yourself? You tell them what they want to hear. So corporate America is coming to us regularly going, can you train our entire company, right? On how you guys do it, on how you administer feedback, how often you do it. And the reason why it's uncomfortable is because we don't practice it. It's not the norm. So if you want it to become comfortable when you're giving feedback or receiving feedback, you've got to build it in to the culture and you've got to do it regularly so it becomes something you learn how to do. How difficult, though, is it for a CEO or a supervisor anywhere to look at a fellow employee in the eye, maybe someone who reports to them and tell them the truth? I'm not saying. Why is that so hard, Dave? Because people genuinely want to be liked. I don't care whether you like me or not. I truly believe I'm respected. And I believe in the DNA, in my DNA, that if you want to help people and you love people, tell them the truth about what they're doing. Because if you don't tell them the truth, you're enabling them. And I'm not saying it's easy for a CEO, but if you're a CEO of an organization and you're not willing to tell your employees the truth, you're probably in the wrong position. Dave, thanks so much for spending a few minutes with us on CEOs you should know. You're welcome, Rod. It's good to be here with you. Dave DeRosher, the Other Side Academy. He's the CEO and founder. We bring you insights from business leaders who are achieving success. CEOs you should know right here on iHeartMedia.
