Has the NYPD returned to broken windows policing? Well, some community groups are suggesting it has. The group Vocal New York among community organizations who say they've been spending this week monitoring court cases in Brooklyn and Manhattan, and they're saying 80% of what they observe are low-level offenses. The group's Nick Encalada Malinowski. For example, There was a case that I saw in Manhattan where a woman was accused. of stealing a roll of paper towels from CVS. Zohran Mamdani's already commented in advance of the report saying that New Yorkers should never have to choose between safety and justice. Delivering critical public safety also looks like working with our police department alongside many other partners, and we've seen over the first seven months of this administration what that can look like when we're talking about the fewest murders on record in New York City. Now these groups will join some city council members outside Manhattan criminal court later today. to release their entire findings from this week. Glenn Shuck, 1010 wins. 92-3 FM. A deadly shooting in bed style last night. This happened as after 9 p.m. Police said they were called on a report of a man shot at Broadway and Lewis Avenue. Victim taken to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced dead. His name has not been released. Police say there are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing. Not in New York, you don't. New York leaders are fighting plans to give ICE agents a new weapon. Electric shock gloves that ICE is spending millions of dollars to make sure their officers have on hand is what Attorney General Letitia James is investigating. In the event that a New Yorker is injured as a result of these gloves, obviously there will be a private right of action as well as action from the state of New York. Best be assured of that.

Governor Hokel says she's concerned about constitutional rights being violated. Our local jails, our policing efforts, as well as our technology, should all be fighting local crimes. That's all I want. Local cops, local crimes. and says new legal protections included in the state budget may prohibit the use of those gloves here in New York. Mary Limbuckley, Tenten wins on 92-3 FM in Midtown. Also yesterday, Governor Kathy Hochul, Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and A.G. James announced more than $7 million in funding for legal services for unaccompanied immigrant children in the city. Well, Mom always said, asking nicely works. Turns out it works for robbers, too. At least a crew in Brooklyn, which has hit up people at least twice in Bushwick. Both incidents happened in front of 195 Morgan Avenue, both at around 7 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, August 1st and 2nd. Now, police say the suspects just came up to the victims, asked to see their phones, and ran off with them. No injuries in either incident, police urged him but with info to call crime stoppers. A stepped-up effort to get illegal e-bikes off the streets. Council Majority Leader Sean O'Brien says he is working on a package of bills that would allow owners to exchange them for street legal ones. They would fine retailers for selling illegal bikes and ultimately require police and DOT to test for power and speed. He tells Tenten wins. If you're using it to get around and make an honest living, we understand that. That's where we're providing a rebate and a trade-in program. But at a certain point, when the rebate program ends, NYPD needs to confiscate these illegal devices that are too fast and for far too long have caused harm to our neighbors. Abreu plans to introduce those bills today, part of a new drive to stop deadly crashes after a 17-year-old was killed in a crash on July 29th. There's no comment so far from the NYPD. City DOT pointed to last week's cease and desist orders from the mayor to online retailers accused of selling illegal e-bikes. There's a new push for Flacco's Law, too, a measure that would require office buildings and large retailers to dim or turn off their non-essential indoor lighting at night. Founder and chair Kathy Nazari of Lights Out says the measure is in memory of Flacco, the beloved Central Park Owl, who died in a building collision. She tells Tintan Wins' light may have been a factor in his death. Nighttime illumination knocks off. Earth's internal navigation system, and so it takes them off of their path as they're migrating and draws them directly to the light. The event comes as a new documentary on Flacco draws attention to his life and death. Nazari hopes the law might go through this time. The rally, which will include live bird art in the owl's honor, is said for noon at City Hall. Two poppies who survived a horrific abandonment in Queens are now ready to go to forever homes. Poppy and Petunia were rescued from a dumpster where they were left for dead and their muzzles wired shut last month. They were severely underweight and an agonizing pain, and they wouldn't have made it if a Good Samaritan hadn't found them and called for help. They were cared for at the ASPCA Animal Recovery Center in Manhattan and are now available for adoption at the center on Upper East Side. Now while they were found together, they're not a bonded pair and they can be adopted separately.

The SPCA says that it has recovered more than 6,000 animals from abusive situations in a recent partnership with the NYPD. A plan to build affordable housing on the Elizabeth Street Garden site is dead, thanks to the Adams administration, designating that site is parkland. Zohran Mamdani, though, talking about other ideas. Supporters of the Elizabeth Street Garden fought against a plan to build low-income senior housing there and won. But Anne-Marie Gray with Open New York says the housing plan should have gone ahead. This did not lose in court. It did not lose with the public. It was killed in the final days of Mayor Adams administration. Because celebrities had the cell phone of one of Mayor Adams' best friends. She's talking about former First Deputy Mayor Randy Mastro, who designated the site as Parkland, requiring state approval to build on it. Mayor Zohran Mamdani says while that won't happen, we are going to be building more than 180 homes at 22 Suffolk Street and more at 100 gold as well. Mack Rosenberg 10-10 wins on 92.3 FM. The Elizabeth Street Garden nonprofit says their work has always been about preserving the garden while addressing the need for low-income housing. Not your usual farmers market at a Washington Heights school today. Verde Vita is holding a fruit and veggie giveaway. Group President George Espinall tells Tenten wins. I'll be at the Hutz Point produce market, working with our partners sharing access to rescue fresh produce that couldn't be sold, but it's still in great quality. It gets transported over to PSIS 173 in Washington Heights. Everything gets put out, you know, farmer's market style. Verde Vita says it's distributed over 100,000 pounds of fresh produce this season at school-based markets. Today's event is at PS-189M on Amsterdam Avenue, opens at 3 p.m., and Espinall says all are welcome. Going to be a lot of Pokemon fans lining up at Krispy Kreme next week. The Donut Giant has unveiled a new collab celebrating the 30th anniversary of the franchise. The Pokemon Donut collection includes six special ones celebrating Pikachu, squirtle, jiggly puff, and more, as well as a Pokemon ball. Some of the flavors? Well, the pokey ball is a glazed base dipped in vanilla icing and half covered in red sprinkles with the signature design in chocolate piping. Squirtle, glazed blue cotton candy buttercream dipped in sugar and non-parrelles. Oh, and of course, Pikachu is bright yellow, filled with what they call shocking lemon filling topped with vanilla icing, yellow drizzle, and non-parreels.
