Thank you.com. Meet Keith. Loving Dad, board game champ, bus driving pro. I drive 65,000 miles in my bus each year. If people knew what I know, lives could be saved. Like how there are some things I simply can't see. On my route the other day, a car tried to sneak past me and ends up right in my blind spot. I turned slowly, so accident avoided. But no car should be in the blind spot for a 40,000 pound bus. It's our roads. It's our safety. Visit www.sharethe road safely.gov. You're on News Radio 840 WHA. As Terry Miners here, Gary Rockies in the studio with me, Class of 77 Trinity High School. Gary, good to see you, brother. Thanks, Terry. Good to be here. It was right over by Trinity a few hours ago. I saw on the little marquee board out front. You didn't have that back in the 70s. No, no, no. Go Rocks! Let's go schools back home. You're going to be great. We love you, Rocks. They never told us at St. X, they loved us. No, no. They do now. Because that's how that goes. But you didn't get any of that treatment. No, no, no. No love. Dennis Nolte Meyer also in the studio, St. Xavier, Class of 19 and 77. Good to see you, brother. Yes, sir. Did anybody ever tell you they loved you? Any teacher there, they'd say all that stuff. Now they act a little more like caring. But back then you were scared to death, weren't you? Yes, it was hard love. Kind of like in prison. Yeah, that's what it was. I never got jugged the whole time, the whole four years. There's no way. I swear, people do not believe that I never ever got detention at St. X High School. There were a few incidents where I was corrected rather firmly in a hallway by a coach or whatever. Hey, ho, hey, yo. I guess I will be quiet. You know, that kind of thing, but I never got detention. What about you? How many times? Once, and it was by the music teacher.

Who was the music teacher? I don't remember. Zender. Oh, Zender, yeah. Yeah, I remember that. They all scared me. It didn't matter who it was. Mrs. Rapier, she was three feet tall, and I was scared of her. That was the best way to be, right? It was. It made sense. Rocky, this is good that you two guys, tigers and rocks hanging together. Tell me the premise of what the two of you have come up with. Well, the way we were, you know, we're... This is a brotherhood. Of course it is. You know, we want to beat them just as bad as they want to beat us. Yeah. But, you know, at the end of the day... You know, we're all friends. We've been competing against each other for years. We did in grade school oftentimes. You know, why not? And it just made sense. Why can we all be together? I mean, we're going to, you know, we've got some, you know, some big names. You know, we got like Rick Bainer's going to be there. You know, we can. Big star. We can reminisce back in 76, you know, the, I think the, our game was, football game was at Cardinal Stadium. We had 30,000 people there. You know, the fan bases were going crazy. So, you know, we're going to have stories from way back when, you know, I should have done this. I should have done that. But, you know, in the... Gary, could I remind you that Beaners our guy. I know, I know. That's nice of you. I know. Dennis, I can't believe that he offered up that name. He was our star quarterback. But, you know, we didn't win the game, though, you know. But so I figured, you know, we're all, we're our brothers, you know, we're, you know, this whole premise, you know, we're Catholic boys, you know, we're, we just, on the bottom, you know, at the end of the day, you know, we like each other, we like to hang out and have fun. Yeah. You did, you felt the same way to. I mean, it was all, you, a bunch of my friends were Trinity guys too. Right. And, you know, you get away from there for five, ten, fifty years. When you look back at it, it was just a group of boys. fighting to become men. Of course. And being held back by a group of teachers. From being cavemen. That's right. They gave us great structure. And we know that as grownups now. We understand it. But at the time, it's like, what? But, yeah, it does launch you into life really well. The discipline and the order, the structure, all that stuff's important. So we have retained our friendships, relationships over the course of all these decades. I can't help but notice you guys are both 1977. Seven graduates of your respective schools, but you're getting together this weekend. Please explain the math, Dennis. The math is simple. It's...

The first day of our senior year is the day we're holding the event. Perfect. 50 years later. Yes. That makes perfect sense because you're beginning the 50th year since. You left school. Exactly. Yeah. If you have a golden wedding anniversary, do you wait a year after you've been there? Yes. I get what you're doing because next year you'll have your respective. Yes. And we did not want to compete with the schools. And Terry, that's coming from a music major. How about that? Oh, that's why the music teacher got him. Yeah, exactly. He's been planning this thing for 50 years. This Saturday. At the Arrow Club at Bowman Field, we're inviting, what, everybody from class 1977 from both of those schools to get together? Yes. Tell me the tales. What's happening there, Gary? Well, we've got, well, let me give a little shout out to Arrow Club. The president's Frank Hatfield. He's a class of 83 St. X. He's letting us use the... I love all this praise you're giving to St. Xavier High School. My dad actually graduated from saying that. Class of 37. Was he disappointed when you told him you were going to Trinity? Well, you know, as a young boy, you know, we never listened to our parents. No, of course not. What do you like, dad, ice cream? I hate it. Yeah, sure. But, you know, my two brothers, I mean, I think it was, you know, location where I was. It was only made sense to cut through Seneca Park to go to the charity. Absolutely. So you gave your shout out now. What's going to happen during this event? Well, we've got the, there's a room, and if you're familiar with the Aero Club, it's kind of a bar right there next to the, you know, we all took our driver's license in Bowman Field. I think it was originally set up for pilots. But we're, you know, we basically going to have the whole bar. I mean, there's going to be some. regulars that will be there. But Saturday's not a busy night. Fly boys and fly girls. There are, that's what it is. It's a pilot hangouts. So I've got a couple little things up my sleeve that we're going to make some announcements in. We're going to be hanging out this room. We're going to give everybody, like for $25 cash, you're going to get a few drink tickets, and then we're going to make a donation to St. Vincent de Paul. Wow, perfect. And Trinity and St. X, Class of 77's name. I think it's just basically just... everybody coming together and sharing old stories and just, you know, we probably haven't seen a lot of these people in 50 years. 50 years. So name tags will be important. How good are both of you with the art of telling someone they look great when you don't really mean it? Dennis? I suck. I'm terrible. Are you one of those guys that goes, oh my God, what happened to you? Oh, without a doubt. I was like,

You have to be a little more graceful than that, bro. Figure out how to just say, it's so good to see you. You don't have to comment on the way they look. Just don't say, how did you turn into an old man? You look like your father. Don't say that stuff. People don't want to hear that. You still think you're a smart aleck teenager, even at your 50th. I went to mine last year. And? That's why you didn't get punched. No, no, it was fun. I had a great time. But it's great. You see a lot of, and it's true. You go to your reunion. It doesn't matter if it's your 20th or 30th or 40th or 50th high school reunion. Some people are still walking and go, Terry, how are you? Hey, blah, blah, blah. But have you heard about blah, blah, blah. And then the next guy will walk up and say, hey, Terry. And I'm thinking, we were in the same classroom. It's just life treats everybody with a little different gentle hand, I suppose. So be prepared. The one thing that we're going to make a tribute to, in both of our classes at Trinity St. X, believe or not, we've had. 76 people that have passed. Yeah. And so we're going to make a tribute to them. We're going to make a toast to those guys. Yeah, that's a tough story. I'm glad you guys are doing this, though. This is a fun idea. St. X and Trinity together at the Arrow Club at Bowenfield, Saturday night, 7 till 11, where do people find out? Or they just show up? They just show up. Okay. Class of 1977. That makes you boys about 66 years old. 67. Yeah, okay. Yeah. See, my math isn't as sharp as yours. Dennis. All right. Well, and then Uber home? Is that the idea? Is that the whole thing? We'll have planes available. I want my jetpack. We go again. All right. And nothing online. Do you have something on Facebook? People can go look at or? We got with St. X. We got with Trinity alumni groups. They sent us all their emails from our class. Oh, okay. So we put it together. sent out an Evite. Okay. That'll work. Yeah, we have 85 confirmed 16 maybes, and then we have a bunch of boomers who don't know how to use computers. That's the problem. That are just going to show up. Oh, my goodness. You'll see a few people in those. What you'll say is, I thought you were dead. All right, glory, hallelujah. This truth is marching. All right, boys, good to see you. Happy reunion and have a great run to the 50th a year from now. Saturday night, Bowman Field Arrow Club, St. Axe and Trinity Classes of 1977. Back in a minute.
