And we can dress real neat, from our hearts to our feet, and surprise them with a victory cry. Men without hats will appear at Iroquois Amphitheater as part of the tubular festival on August 14th. See, we're sneaking up on it already. And Ivan, the singer, of course, is with us here. Ivan Doroshock. Hey, it's good to talk to you, Ivan. Yeah, good to talk to you, too. Dude, it's been almost 50 years of this, and you are your people still sing the hook lines of your hit songs. I mean, does that ever snap your head back when you think, I created a hook line that people never forget. Yeah, no, it's great. We're blessed. It's definitely great to have people still relating to our music. But I guess people, after all these years, still need to be told that they can dance if they want to. So there you go. And you're still putting out new music, too. Where are you today musically? as compared to what we knew from the 1980s? It's, you know, the same thing. We're not trying to reinvent the wheel or anything. We're just doing what we're good at and giving people a good, another new taste of 80s music. We have a new record out called On the Moon. A couple of singles off that went number one on the heritage chart over in the UK, which is a chart dedicated to vintage bands making new music. So we have a new single called I Love the 80s, another one called Inglorious Days. But people are loving it. It's doing great. Got a couple of videos out. It was fun making a, making new videos after 40, 50 years too. That was a fresh experience for us. And, yeah, I know people are still loving 80s music. It's trending upwards, actually. I'm doing a lot more shows and meeting a lot more people than I did actually back in the 80s. So it's great. We're having a great time. That's phenomenal. I love hearing that. First off, kids are rediscovering our music and enjoying that, and that's part of this whole pump. But just going out and making videos again has to be fun for you too, again, because... You know, the video era, you stepped right into that. I mean, the safety dance video was hilarious. And that's kind of a protest song, right? Tell me about that. Yeah, well, it was a protest against being kicked out of discothex back in the 80s. It was, you know, the late 70s, early 80s, and it was the dying days of disco. And occasionally the DJ would slip in a new wave song, you know, B-52's Rock Lobster or Blondie's Heart of Glass. We'd get up and start pogo dancing, which basically was the just jumping up and bouncing off each other's chest. It was the precursor of the... the slam dance and the mosh pit and but the bouncer has never seen anything like it back then and they thought we were fighting or try to cause trouble so we'd get kicked out so after getting kicked out a few times i just went home and

did something about it. I wrote a song that told people they could dance if they want to. And it's been safe to dance ever since. I'm happy to say. That's so funny. As far as the video is concerned, you know, that video is kind of timeless. It's like, you know, I think people were expecting a new wave, John Travolta to come and teach them how to safety dance. And they get this medieval Peter Pan character dancing around with a... with a dwarf and a blonde crazy blonde chick and a bunch of morris dancers and uh so i think that made it timeless too like you can't really you can't really tell when that video was shot you know i know you look at some 80s videos now you can kind of chuckle about the hairdo and the pointy shoes and zipper clothes but uh The safety dance video kind of stands out because it's like watching a Western. You don't know when it was shot. It could have been shot yesterday. So that's great. It's served us well. It's funny, too, because when you see it, it makes you happy. You stop in your tracks when it pops up on one of those channels and you go, I've got to watch this again. Oh, that's good. That's guy. I'm glad because that was the point of it. We had a great time, great fun time making it. And, uh, Like I say, we're blessed that it's still being watched and still being listened to. It's great. Tell me about the show you're putting on at the Louisville Iroquois Amphitheater. Well, it's a great show, you know, it's a tubular, totally tubular festival. bunch of 80s bands, you know, going around the country. And for the fans, it's great. It's it's all killer, no filler. You know, it's, it's, the bands get up there and just play the songs that they play their hits. They play the songs that people came to hear. You don't have to wait till the end of the show to hear the song you came to hear. It's all there right in your face, right from the start. And, uh, we're having a great time. We've, these are bands that we've been touring with for, for quite a while now. It's, you know, back in the days, there used to be a lot of competition amongst bands, you know. A young band is kind of like a professional sports team. You tour the country. You're competing against other bands for press, for, you know, chart positions, for venues and fans. But now, you know, the work's been done. We're not competing at all. It's like one big happy 80s family traveling around just making our fans happy. And it's great because we get to see our original fans. And they're... you know more often than not they're bringing their kids and sometimes even the grandkids so it's a family affair now and it's it's great we're having fun and uh the song like i love the 80s the newer stuff that you have you're you are going to feature those too aren't you absolutely absolutely we uh we uh the crowd loves it it's already i love the 80s is already a crowd favorite people are singing along with it and uh hardest part about that song was cutting it down to three minutes and 30 seconds for radio. Because if we would have put all the 80s references that we had written down before we recorded it, that song could have been about an hour long. But I guess we'll have to wait for that.

6:34

We'll have to wait for the 12-inch dance mix. I remember those two. Stick some more in there. Yep, yep. I was in one of those clubs one night doing the Pogo as well and just thinking, and people look at us like we were crazy. So maybe I didn't realize you were writing the soundtrack to my young life. Well, there you go. There you go. Your I love the 80s song already has more than 5 million views online, so that's a hit, my brother. You're doing well. Well, great. Thank you. It's because of all the fans out there still listening to us, and we appreciate it. We love doing what we're doing, and we're going to be doing as long as we can. You know, just sit back and enjoy or get up and dance and enjoy. That's right. Dance if you want to. I really appreciate the time, Ivan. Have a great time here in Louisville. And it's a little different than Vancouver. Isn't that where you live? Yeah, Vancouver Island. Yeah, yeah, West Coast. But we grew up in Montreal. We moved out west about 25 years ago. But we're familiar with the surroundings here. We're filled. We love the states. Excellent. I was born in Chicago myself, so it's great. Excellent. Well, enjoy your stay, and I know it's going to be an outstanding show. Thanks so much. Yeah, thank you. Nice talking to you. Cheers. Ain't no place I'd rather be except for 1983. That's part of that I love the 80s song. Men Without Hats joined by Flock of Seagulls. Back in 1985. The producers, Anna Motion, Escape Club, Tommy Two Tone, so many more. It's the totally tubular festival. Thomas Dolby on the bill as well. Friday night, Iroquois Amphitheater. Tickets online at Iroquois Amphitheater.com.
