This is Gary and Shannon, and you're listening to KFI AM 640, the Gary and Shannon Show on demand on the IHeart Radio app. We did come up with a sign. It lasted. Two hours. We didn't really. Only because we didn't capitalize on it. Yeah. I don't think we should. You think that would have been like the new ice bucket challenge? Like people everywhere would have started doing it. I really do. So when we found out that Jackie died. Yeah. We were at the Dodger game. Right. Together. And we both immediately like put our hands to our chest. Yeah. And then we did this thing where we, it kind of naturally just happened where we hooked up our thumbs. If you put your arms or your hands, you cross your hands, you put them on your chest like this and you kind of hook up your. Your thumbs and your hands kind of... Your hands become the wings. They become the wings. People make shadow birds this way. Exactly. Like, yeah, it's like shadow birds, like against a wall or whatever. And you and I both kind of did that at the same time, like right? And patted our chest, like they were flaps. It just seemed natural. Wings flabbing our chest. Yeah. And we're like, whoa, this could be like a tribute thing. Yeah. And then I was going to take a video of you doing it and send it to Matt. But I didn't want people to think we were making fun of anything. We just naturally, like, came up with this tribute. Kind of like in Hunger Games, what Katniss does for Roo. Yeah. That's a good point. But anyway, we didn't get the video. And now it's too late, I think, because now, Shep. Yeah. The trend died before it had a chance to live. Well, now people are selling fake Jackie March. And I don't want to get involved with that. Lame. What else is going on?
Time for What's Happening? In New York today. Luigi Mangione has pleaded guilty to federal stalking charges in Manhattan. 28-year-old guy, of course, is accused of killing United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. He revealed for the first time, Through his allocution to the court, if you're NBC. Nobody writes like that. That he posted, sorry, he posed as a potential investor and emailed the insurance giant to confirm the location of the investor's conference so that he could track Thompson's location. Hence the stalking charge that he pled guilty to. Not murder. Not murder. This is the federal stalking charge. The state murder charge is still ahead. It names one, two, three, four, five, six authors of the story for NBC News. And I read allocution, and I think AI wrote this. The seventh author was AI. Yeah, federal charges have been revised against the Palisades arson suspect. Prosecutters filing yesterday a revised indictment against Jonathan Rindernecht. It removes one of the three previous counts and redefines the remaining two. Most notably, they say. say the first superseding indictment charges him with igniting the January 1st Lockman fire in one count. Mistrial was declared at his first one in June. Jurors told the judge they were deadlocked 10 to 2 in favor of acquittal. So they had to retool this thing. Another court case, the Alex Murdoch case, testimony that was given by him at his first murder trial relating to the deaths of his wife and son. can be heard by jurors in the upcoming retrial. The judge did set some specific conditions, but if you remember, Murdoch did take the stand in his own defense. His attorneys now are asking for the testimony to be barred from the second trial, saying some of it was focusing on financial crimes that the state Supreme Court there in South Carolina. advised had been too much of a focus by the prosecution in the first murder trial. So only portions of the testimony on the stand are going to be relevant to the new trial. according to the judge. Tropical storm Lala formed Thursday yesterday over the Pacific. It is expected to reach hurricane force and bring extremely heavy rain flooding, life-threatening surf. This will be in the Hawaiian Islands where you'll get those rip currents. A hurricane warning is in effect for the big island. They say hurricane conditions are expected there by early Saturday local time. As much as 25 inches of rain just this weekend on the Big Island is what the concern is.
Wow. 25 inches of my gosh. The death toll from this week's earthquake in Columbia has climbed. It's close to 300 now. The death toll, I'm sorry, the missing number is at about 400, which is, in all honesty, lower than a lot of people were expecting. When this earthquake hit the 7.4 magnitude quake. And you saw 100 plus build, 150 plus buildings collapse. The expectation was that we could see a death toll into the thousands. We'll be lucky. if we can keep it in that three or three to five hundred range you mentioned d23 this is the ultimate disney fan event kicks off today get an inside look at beloved disney movie and show memorabilia sneak peek at new disney movies shows experiences products coming up this will be at the anaheim convention center today to sunday they say it's bigger than ever more than 50 immersive booths Among them, props from movies like The Devil Wears Prada shows like Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Hannah Montana. You know, I would watch the movie where two single people go to D23 and hook up over their shared love of Disney. I'm... Think of all the things you could do with it. Why not a Disney Plus movie that does that? Exactly. That's what I'm saying. They don't have to pay for the rights. Exactly. They own the rights. Exactly. And all the fun you could have with it. One of the big things that people are looking for is an Avengers Doomsday trailer, a new one. Maybe that's the movie I write, you know, instead of Space Wars. Maybe Mr. Bumberpuss isn't a warrior. Maybe he's a lover, not a fighter. Maybe he goes to D23. How about this? Maybe Mr. Bumberpuss in that world is kind of a standalone character. He was the subject of a couple of different movies. Like there's a whole Bumberpuss franchise. And the people that are the focus of the movie are two huge Bumberpuss fans. Oh my God. Oh my God, I love it. But they come from wildly different backgrounds. That's the only way it would work. Do they speak the same language? Or do they only speak Bumberpuss? Does Bumberpuss have a language in what was Space Wars? Yeah, I mean, well, he's not a big talker. That's the thing with Bumberpuss. Remember, he just has catch phrases. Cat, ch phrases. Catt. Phrases. Oh, my gosh. It's writing itself. I know. Get out of the way, people. I'm telling you, we need to put pen to paper here. We're leaving a lot of money on the table with this bumberpuss stuff. Swamp Watch when we come back. You're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI AM 640.

Hey, it's Ryan Reynolds here for Mint Mobile. Now, I was looking for fun ways to tell you that Mint's offer of unlimited premium wireless for $15 a month is back. So I thought it would be fun if we made $15 bills. But it turns out that's very illegal. So there goes my big idea for the commercial. Give it a try at mintmobile.com slash switch. Tonight, those back-to-back World Champ Dodgers will take on the Brewers again. First pitches at 7 o'clock on this Jay Clayton Kershaw-Bobblehead night. Listen on AM-570 LA Sports Stream on the IHeart Radio app. Broad to you by Sapporo. Great moments. Start with Sapporo beer. Good with sushi. Great with baseball. Dodgers actually lost last night, five to four to the Brewers. Angels Crush the Rangers 7 to nothing. There's football tonight as well. There are three NFL preseason games, including Matt's Dolphins against the Washington Commanders. And then I think it's another six, if I had that right, six games tomorrow, six preseason games tomorrow too. That's odd. Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Apparently, the Chargers were supposed to play on Saturday, which would have been better. Sure. But the Texans Stadium had a prior commitment. So that also plays a role in preseason football. It's funny. Well, in regular season football as well, too. You know, you look at so fine all the events they have there. You've got to kind of fit everything together like a puzzle.
NFL doesn't always get precedence when it comes to events. You mentioned in that last segment about the Palisades Fire suspect and some changes to the charges against him. It's a year and a half after the fire. Tomorrow, the Palisades Village Shopping Center is set to reopen tomorrow. And I think, if I heard correctly, that John's going to be interviewing Rick Caruso later on tonight on his show, talking about that. It's time for Swamp Watch. I'm a politician, which means I'm a cheat and a liar. And when I'm not kissing babies, I'm stealing their lollipops. Here we go. The real problem is that our leaders are dumb. The other side never quits. What are you doing in my swamp? I'm not going anywhere. So dumb. That is how you drain the swan. I can imagine what can be and be unburdened by what has been, you know? Americans have always been governed. Act presidential. But they're not stupid. A political wonder is when a politician actually tells the truth. Whether people voted for you were nice. I want to start just with what's going on with the USS Abraham Lincoln Aircraft Carrier Group. It's been deployed since November of 25, and there have been a series of reports that have come out that have raised concerns about conditions on board the carrier and the ships that are associated with it, the living conditions, the morale during this lengthy deployment. It's been out there for almost a year. And there are concerns that this is something that they cannot handle, that there are reports that some sailors on board the ship are talking about jumping overboard. Mental health issues, the mail not getting there, healthy meals. access to healthy meals, all of that. They left in January, is that right? November. They got there in January. They've been at sea since November of 25. So they got to the Middle East in January. In January, yeah. And I'm assuming did not know they would be there into August or you just, you don't know. You're in the military. You're on an aircraft carrier. One of my good friends, her husband's commander in the in the, um. in the Navy and was in charge of a ship for a long time. And he, you just, you don't know. They have five kids. And she was just like, bad, Brandon's, uh, see. See you when we see you. Right. See you when we see you. Exactly. Um, in this case, there are reports. The Navy Times, Stars and Stripes have detailed some concerns, the Sailor's Well-Being. Um, most of the concerns are from, are relayed to them from family members. about declining morale, supply shortages, plumbing issues, moldy showers, mail delivery disruptions. It's important to remember there are literally... thousands of people in the aircraft carrier group. I mean, there are 5,000 plus on the aircraft carrier alone, not even counting the support ships that are around them. That's not to say that this is not a concern, but it's also important to point out that, yes, there was a sailor who went overboard at the beginning of the month.
But that doesn't mean that there are people lining up on the deck of this aircraft carrier jump overboard. And you have to be careful where you're getting the news from. Right. And what the angle is. I'd feel better know. If they had, you know, people from the ship talking to media outlets and this was what was going on. I would give more credence to it than just a media outlet speculating that people are tired of being on the ship. You know, when you sign up to be in the Navy, you know what's going to happen. You know that this is a not just a possibility, but a probability at some point. Listen, if you legitimately jump off the side of an aircraft carrier, you're going to get off that aircraft carrier. They're going to pick you up. They're going to put you on a helicopter and they're going to get you somewhere where you can get the care that you need. If you do it just because you don't like the conditions of the aircraft carrier, you're going to go to the brig. You're going to go to jail, military jail, and those conditions are going to be much worse than whatever you're seeing on the aircraft carrier itself. The one thing I did see as well was a picture associated with one of these stories. Now, again, in terms of being careful about where you get your information from, the picture was of a deck. full of airplanes. I mean, crowded to the point you could not launch one if you wanted to. And it was a picture from two and a half years ago. And it was at a point when apparently they were doing maintenance on the airplane bay below deck. So they had to remove the airplanes and put them all on top. So the president has asked the Supreme Court to get involved in the construction of the ballroom. This emergency application follows a ruling from last week by an appeals court that upheld a federal judge's decision that would block some above ground work on the site while the litigation moves forward. Again, the appeals court ruling does allow the underground stuff to continue because the underground stuff is all of the very highly secure, secretive bunkers and rooms and things like that. It's the above ground construction that is going... to potentially be stopped. And that's what it is that the president and the White House have been asking the Supreme Court to get involved with. It is that time again, everybody. Gather around your podcast device. Don't say radio. We don't say that anymore. Your audio delivery. That's why I didn't say it. Smart. And then you jump in and you said it twice. Probably. Radio. Anyway. It's time for the nine news nuggets you need to know when we come back. You know the drill. Sometimes they're dirty. Sometimes they're depraved. Sometimes they make you think. About dirty depraved things. That's right. Usually they involve animals, sometimes drugs, sometimes alcohol. Don't forget Florida. Also, nakedity in Florida. I'm looking at them now. I'm just perusing. There are beavers in our future. And that covers all of the aforementioned topics. Yeah. Yeah. You're a child, okay? You're the one who just said it. I only said beaver. You're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI AM 640. We were busy this week. I mean, there was a lot going on. You traveled across, well, not across the country, but back and forth to Texas of all places.
We just were too busy to get all to all of the stories in. And that's why we bring you the nine news nuggets you need to know when we do. Here's honorable mention. Honorable mention. Not supposed to mention. I'm going to mention it when the time was right. There's never a policy, not to mention it. It's been an honor serving with you all. Didn't I mention it? What an honor it is. Great and honorable Moses. So today we're holding auditions to become the newest member of honorable mention. We hear about home invasion robberies all the time. There was a rash of them in Encino recently in recent years. But I feel like more and more we're hearing about a different kind of home invasion robbery where they're not stealing cash. They're taking food. Yeah. And is this a comfort thing? Like you're not comfortable in your own home? Or you just don't like what's in your fridge so you break into the neighbors. What have they gotten there? Yeah. Do you do that in other people's homes? You just open a fridge just to see what's going on. Just, you know, just as a personality test. I used to in my youth. Really? I'd like that would be my first stop. When you become an adult, it's kind of a weird thing to do. You can't just... You find out that someone's got medicine in there. You just can't like go into someone's house an adult and open up the fridge straight away. Can you? In this case, a woman in Playa Vista came face to face with somebody who had broken into the home, grabbed a monster energy drink from the refrigerator, and just sat down and started drinking it. I get that. Now she, she locks herself in her room. She calls her husband. Her husband had been out walking the dog. He comes home, confronts the guy who was arrested as he left the man in his 50s was homeless. Like you remember being a kid and being like your friend's house and like opening up their fridge and like they had, you know, like drinks that you would never have access to? That would never. I never touched someone else's fridge. I don't. Maybe my girlfriend in high school. Yeah. Maybe. I just remember like kids had like, you know, banned things in my home. Like the, you know, like the, remember those drinks that came in the plastic bottles? They were like bottle shaped, but they were plastic and they were like brightly colored like sugar drinks. It's just high fructose corn syrup and a little bit of red dye number five. Yes. Like, oh man, you've got these. Your parents love you so much more than mine. They're poisoning you, lucky. Here's number nine. Number nine. I did nine plays. If a cop's dirty, nine times out of tennis partners, 32. And I speak nine languages. I stay up till nine o'clock. Basically everybody at table nine. I feel ready to go another nine in. Niners. Did I catch a nineer in there? Were you calling from our walkie-talkie? I mean, this guy's going to tell you who he is. Since 2011, Kendrick Wallace.
has been charged with crimes from grand theft to burglary, literally taking things that don't belong to him. For 15 years, he's been doing this. He finally got popped once again by Broward County Sheriff's Detectives. He was stealing from liquor stores in the Oakland Park area over the summer. He was finally arrested just a few days ago. But they're looking for a couple of other guys. Here's his M.O. He walks into a liquor store. He grabs bottles of liquor and then he walks out the door. How is this simple? How is this news? It's that simple. It happens all the time everywhere. When's the last time you walked out of a store with liquor? I didn't say I do it, but dudes do this. They put the bottles down their pants and they walk out. He didn't even have to put him down his pants. You just wave at the checker. Bye. It's like an Ulta store where they don't even stop the shoplifters anymore. Well, what are they going to do? You're not going to lose your life over a bottle. What do you think he was stealing? What kind of bottles? They don't tell us. Listen, if you're going to walk out, you might as well go high end. Like what? Pop off, baby. Pop off reserve, maybe. I don't know. Number eight.
A child is born every eight seconds. Listening to eight different bosses drone on about mission statements. Amazing! Well, also in Florida, a Tampa guy was in a secure, finger quotes, a secure mental health facility. transferred to the health care facility from jail. A judge had ordered him there after a court-appointed expert deemed him mentally incompetent to stand trial after a drug trafficking thing, fleeing to elude law enforcement, failure to register as a career offender, et cetera, lengthy criminal history. How hard is it to get out of a secure mental facility in Florida? It's not. He tapped an employee code into a door that separates residents from the public. Some intel. Stole a key card from a worker at the front desk. Seen that's light of hand in any TV show you watch. Right. And then unlocked the rear exit door and poof! Disappeared into the night. Number seven. The seventh son of the seventh son. We're on for seven days. With the government, sector seven. I seven seven a seven years of college down the drain. Seven, seven, seven days. I didn't mean to move on so quickly. I just figured one more crazy person on the streets of Florida is also not, you know, an anomaly. In Miami, we are where a restaurant dispute stretched on for two hours, ending with Miami police using a taser on a 35-year-old man who refused to leave the restaurant. It was Primo's Italian restaurant and North Bay Shore Drive. He called himself the son of God before he was finally handcuffed and arrested. A succulent Chinese meal? Get your hands off my penis. If you don't know the joke. No, no, just let it sit. Don't try to explain it. I think people enjoyed it the way it was.
That's going to be playing in my head all weekend. Here's number six. I got six. You got six. She got six. Number six. There's six more weeks a winner. I have a picture of me, a rabbi, and six drunk and longshoremen. Why don't we just stick her in a nursing home closer to us? Drink another six pack. Number six. Since the 50s and probably before that. Banks in Italy have actually accepted wheels of Parmigiano Reggiano as collateral for money, monetary loans. This is so cool. The banks would take in these young wheels of cheese. as collateral for the money that they would give these local dairy farms. And they've been doing it for decades. I love the way you say these young wheels of cheese, like they would take them in and they would nurture them and foster them. They would. Yes. And now they're saying extreme heat in Italy is threatening these cheese banks. Listen, if you guys need to unload some cheese. Listen to this. These warehouses, these banks handle about 2.3 million wheels a year in total. That's a massive banking system of cheese. Doesn't that sound good? I mean, that's a heist you would carry out. I don't think you'd rob a bank, but you'd rob a cheese bank. I'd rob a cheese bank. You'd stuff it everywhere. He'd stuff it in your pockets. I'd have a hard time because the cheese could be used immediately. If I'm robbing a bank, I got to go somewhere to use the money. But here's the thing with Parmigiano Reggiano. It's a hard cheese. I'll find a way. Life finds a way. We'll take a break. You're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI AM 640. Marilyn and Michael Monks just popped in to say hello. You know what? It sucks to be bored. But when I get on my phone and play real casino games on SpinQuest.com, the time flies by. That two-hour wait at the DMV seems like 10 minutes. Play your favorite slots. Their show's coming up next. They are going to be interviewing at 2 o'clock, a man who will help you get the hoarder out of your house. It's going to be a fun interview. He's a fun guy, right? His name is Flash. Flash, yeah. Like the dog from Dukes of Hazard. I feel like he's quite the character. Yeah, he is. I don't remember. We talked to him at some point, but I don't remember. I just remember. Feeling like he was quite the character. He was. You were feeling is correct. I don't want to oversell it. So if he comes on and he's dry as a cardboard box. He yawns like Rhonda Rousey or something. But I mean, anybody who's going to go in and root out your hoarder, that guy's got to be a good time, right? Here's number five. For five minutes. I have five rules. We begin bombing in five minutes. Five little monkeys. This is the year 5.5. Do you be a favor and lose five pounds immediately. Oh my gosh, Elmer, we have to get you some of these mushrooms. Have you heard about these? Tell me about them. Okay. It's a hallucinogenic mushroom that makes you see hundreds of tiny people. No? No? No. Is that a hard no? No. What kind of tiny people? Exactly. See, now you're being curious instead of judgmental. What if they're fun, tiny people? That's right. Funny tiny people. Here is it. Here's what the stories say. The people who have taken the mushrooms recount stories of having fantastical perceptions of hundreds of colorful little people interacting with them and their environment. It's a syndrome known clinically as Lilliputian hallucinations. Try saying that five times fast. This sounds like fun. Mushroom expert and Ph.D. student Colin Domauer has been studying this unique species of mushroom that when ingested causes fairy tale-like hallucinations.
I'm kind of in on. I'm down. I'm down. I'm so in. Long doesn't last though. And has there been any negative effects or is everyone having a good time? Probably last different times for everybody. And yeah, there's going to be, it's like acid. Where can we find this, Shana? Let's see here. It's sold in China. Oh, okay. Is that wrong with that? Union? That's China, right? I think so. Unan? Ask for Lanmawa Asiatica. What's the street price? No price listed. That's so strange. I'm going to Google all of this. I'm going to get us some mushroom. I'll try it and I'll let you guys know. Here's number four. Four minutes. He's probably on his fourth tranquilizer by now. Commandment number four. There goes the Fourth Amendment. This isn't the same world you left four years ago, sir. Elmer, I would not want you to do this because this sounds like an exploding heart just waiting to explode. A guy named Peter Mossfield. Is the man behind an account? I'm not going to tell you what it is on social media because it's not, you don't need to encourage this. But this guy gained attention by taking anabolic steroids but not working out. He would take steroids and drink heavily, all with the goal of eventually entering a bodybuilding competition. Just last weekend, he did just that. He entered the men's classic physique Open Class B at the NPC East Coast Mecca Classic in New York. He finished eighth out of eight. After he left the venue... He went drinking, lost track of time and missed the finals, is what he said. So there's a shrooms store in Sherman Oaks where I think we could start. I'm sure they know a guy. It's called Shrooms Are Us. It's right down the street. Nice. Here's number three. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. They were dead within three hours. Three. Security clearance level three. All three of you. Three. I got all three you guys, for the rest of your natural born lives. After about three days, they both start to stink. Three. A high school football player in Arkansas had quite the scare at practice. What did he find in his helmet? Can anyone guess? Oh, that's right. We've all read the story, probably. It was a venomous snake inside his helmet. It goes to pick up his helmet.
felt some unusual movement inside his headgear following warm-ups, took his helmet to an assistant coach for inspection, and a slithering two-foot cotton mouth was discovered behind the padding in the helmet. A pit viper. They said that this kid wore his helmet for about an hour. before he realized that there was something going on and they took his helmet off. They put the helmet in water to try to coax the snake out of it and they eventually grabbed it with tongs. Animal services technicians did say it was a cotton mouth, so they killed it. No, I'm sorry, they released it out into the woods. I think it's time. Absolutely not. Snake lived his life. So there's that. Here's number two. What's going on, you two? Pick out two fingers. One, two. There are two people in this house. There's two sons and no women. Two ringing dingy. Officials in Croatia are warning beachgoers. Watch out for the turtles. Is this the turtle? Oh, no, no, no. I got confused. I was going to ask if this was the turtle sex story because I was thinking about the frog sex story we teased yesterday, but we already did that in the first hour. We did? The frog sex, the apps, the dating apps and the frogs? Oh, that part, yes, yes. I thought you meant specifically the picture, the weird voyeuristic thing that you do while watching wild animals get it on. I was on a hike and I saw two frogs hugging and I didn't realize that's how they were having sex. We also learned today that birds don't have sex in the nest. Now, you seem to have forgotten part of the show today. So I would recommend you go back and listen to the podcast. Where? How do I do that? Ashchella Bay does not sound familiar. There was a loggerhead turtle that has been snapping at people and, in fact, bit a man on the lower back. At least five people have been bit by this loggerhead turtle since mid-July. Is that near Kortula? Oh, everybody knows the Croatian geography. Of course it is. And finally, you're number one. We're number one. You're a number one. We're number one, Ben. That's all the count. I decided to look out for number one. Are you the number one? Rule number one. Number one. Well, if there is a World War III between NATO and Russia, it might all be because of the beavers. The beavers. Russian media reports have said that beavers migrating into the Kaliningrad region from Poland and Lithuania.
constitute an invasion from NATO territory. Residents have complained for about two months that dams that are built by these beavers are causing waterways to overflow. They're flooding fields and the forests and they're contributing to water logging. Are these spies, these beavers? Are they? I mean, I'm just saying it seems like they're beaver spies. Why are you looking at me like that? That's not dirty. I didn't say it was. You're giving me the look like when I say something dirty. I don't have that look anymore. I've given up on it. It doesn't work. Monks and Merrill up next. We'll see you on Monday. Stay dry, everybody. Blessings. This is KFI. You've been listening to the Gary and Shannon Show.
