I'm in the mood for food. KFI AM 640. Bill Handel here on a Friday morning, August 14th. One of the big stories we're looking at is Luigi Mangione. He's headed to federal court today, and it looks like he may plead guilty in the shooting and the murder of the CEO of the health company, United Health. And we see that video always on the news. where you see the CEO. I think Brian, but I keep on forgetting who's last name is. Thompson. Thompson. So he's walking on the street in Manhattan, and right behind him, you see somebody pick up a gun or put a gun up and aim to shoot him, Brian.
Thompson. Thompson. Thank you. I've already forgotten that. Now, let me ask you something if this is not onset dementia. You know, I'm telling you, what station is this? Exactly. Okay, who are you? Precisely. Anyway. You see the video of him about to shoot Brian, whatever his name is, in the back of the head. But they stop it. You don't actually see the shooting because they're just not going to do that. I mean, it's that brutal. Anyway, he's been charged both federally and state, and he's probably going to plead guilty today. It's an emergency hearing. And there's a bunch of reasons for it, which will probably pick up on Monday. Okay. Now it's time for... Foody Friday with, what's his name, that we do every single Friday right here on KFI. And so, Neil, let's get right into it, okay? This is a place that I really like. There's one right down the street. And that's Chick-fil-A. And I just love their sandwiches, their chicken sandwiches. Yeah, they do a nice job. I wasn't a big fan at first, but I've grown to really like it. Yeah, and they do the, my favorite is their spicy chicken that's their fried chicken sandwich. But they have two new ones. You want to share? Yeah, so I thought this was pretty cool. Chick-Play has two brand new chicken sandwiches. We've watched this and we've talked about it on the Foodie Friday segment many times about how a lot of fast food have. have battled for the best burger and then they went to the best chicken sandwich this one is a fun southern uh throwback and most of the time i see these things i see them done poorly i'm curious about this one of course this is chick fillet bringing chicken and waffle sandwiches to menus nationwide So I love the combination, a big fan of Rosco's and chicken and waffles here in Los Angeles. And getting the opportunity to have something like that that's done with what looks like a real... um waffle in this case looks like a homemade waffle to me and maybe it is they cook i'm assuming they cook the waffle right there i don't know i'm gonna see how they put this together but uh they're gonna eventually be nationwide and um they have these are done with their chicken strips this isn't the you know obviously it's a sandwich it's not the bone in chicken that you normally would get with chicken and waffles. But the combination to me is curious. I'm looking forward. They have the spicy for you, Bill, if you want. I really do like that. You can do grilled chicken. You can do different cuts in there as well. You know who loves the bony and chicken sandwiches more than anybody else? A big fan of dentists. They just absolutely love that sandwich.
the bone in a chicken sandwich. And I didn't know. I found out McDonald's either has now or did have their chicken and waffles where the waffle is the sandwich is the bread. And those are frozen waffles that come in. And waffles do okay frozen, like Lego waffles. Eggo. Unless you're going to build a little house out of them. Yeah, yeah, those two, exactly. Anyway. Moving on. But they're said to be the waffles are. good from what they say they're soft, bit chewy without being too dense and more like a Belgian-style waffle than the airy, yeasty style one. That's another thing that, when people came in, the international crowd came in for the World Cup, two things that these foreigners just absolutely loved about America. One, ranch dressing, of course, we talked about that. And the other one was chicken and waffles. They just loved chicken and waffles, which does not happen in Europe because they have chicken. They certainly have waffles, but not the two combined. It is a fantastic combination. And the first time I tried it, you're like, why haven't I eaten this before? Okay. Back we go to Foodie Friday with Neil. Now, there's a new menu that's just been released from a cake company, nothing bunt cake. And I go there all the time because Lindsay, whenever we have parties, which of course I immediately leave because everybody hates me and I hate everybody else. That's what she orders. She gives away or part of it are these little, the small bunts, the individual cupcake type bunts. It is terrific. So what's, and they have all kinds. So what's on the new fall menu, Neil? The reality. The, you know, cream cheese frosting and ratio frosting the cake and everything they do is pretty magical. Are they cheap? No. No. But are they. Are they expensive? Are they worth it? Absolutely. One of my absolute favorite cakes. And, you know, one of the few chain bakeries that I really enjoy. But they have their fall flavors coming. And they've got the Biscoff cookie buttercake. And if you're not familiar with that flavor, that is one of those just warm, nutty, cinnamon-y, lovely flavors. They have two new pop-up butlets, the smaller ones, the Galactic Brownie Cake and Apple Pie Cake. And these are going to be coming to a place near you soon enough, a nothing bun cake near you.
They really are just, if you know what the cosmic brownie is, anybody know that? I think it's Little Debbie's that makes them. You can find them. They have the colorful sprinkles on top. You find them in the grocery store. And the galactic brownie cake is just a fudgy, chocolate cake topped with the smooth brownie batter glaze and those colorful candy-coated. rainbow sprinkles and some are saying it it reminds them of those those cosmic brownies like a little copycat uh but uh that is going to be one of the pop-ups that is coming um and they're just the apple pie cake oh spiced but let come on now i have i i to this day i don't understand how a straight non-gay man could buy any cake with sprinkles on it. I mean, you know, straight people just don't do sprinkles. That's all. What are you saying? What do I'm saying? Listen, if you do sprinkles, you're gay. I mean, that's a medical fact. My gay brother. I'm sorry? My gay brother, who I adore, and we are very, very close friends in addition to being family, out of the two of us, I'd be the one that went for the sprinkles before you did. So you're stereotyped. I rest my case, Neil. That's exactly right. No straight guy would ever put sprinkles on a cupcake or a cake. Let me ask my roommate if he agrees. Trevor? That's a joke. Yeah. Okay, that's whatever. Will just got it. Nothing, nothing but cake. I was like, who's Trevor? Yeah, that's fun. Nothing but cunt. Excuse me? And I missed, I misspoke. Sorry about that. Okay, Domino's, and someone's laughing in the background. Domino's is giving a $5 reward for ordering on their new redesign app and website. Now, I like Domino's. You and I like Domino's because they have the best pan pizza out there. I like the pan pizza. Yeah. I'm not crazy about everything. But $5 for. I think their pan pizza is actually an excellent pizza. Yeah, I love it. That's what I order. But going on the, and we use the app all the time. So it's redesigned. They have a new website, five bucks. Now, I hate going on websites. I hate applying for apps because you get inundated with these. You're getting weird. You're getting into your you kids get off my lawn territory now. If you get an app, it can be a great save. You can save so much by getting the apps for particular fast food places. And. It just, they're doing, they just revamped basically their website and their app. And Domino's just wants you to try it out, you know, to check it out and to order on it. And as you order on it, you can get $5 off of future order after they place a qualifying order online. So the offer runs started on August 3rd. It will go through August 30th. So you still got.
15 days and applies to orders placed through the website or the mobile app and then you kind of share feedback on the redesign digital ordering experience and those types of things and so it has nothing there's nothing to do with you joining their mailing lists and getting inundated five times 10 times a day. What are you getting inundated with coupons for dominoes? Oh no, you're going to get this. Wait a minute, but it's You know how many? Do you know how many of these? Ah, it's just crazy. Now you're jurating up to things you at least buy and want. Okay. Well, I don't need 46 a day. Okay. One last one. A.I. Creating the Perfect Burger. Now, that is interesting, and I thought I'd bring that up with you. Okay, so Stanford is running this taste test, and the researchers there trained AI on more than 2,000 burger recipes. Then they had chefs cook five of the creations for 101 people to test. And the AI was able to build a better burger. So says those that tasted them. In this particular case, they looked at these 2000 burger recipes. It enabled it to generate original recipes using the AI based on ingredient pairings, portions, flavor relationships. And in the taste test, two AI designed burgers matched or outperformed. a McDonald's Big Mac for flavor and overall appeal. Keep in mind, that's a best seller, while mushrooms and beef versions offered comparable taste scores also reducing environmental impact. So they wanted to see if they could redesign a burger that was better for the earth and was still delicious and all of those things. And they did it. Okay. I'd like to try it. Yeah, and I love grilling burgers on the grill. You and I spend time talking and enjoying. I've grilled burgers twice this week for my boy. All right. Okay, let's do a little bit of Handel history. We're playing around with the last two segments of the show. It was Ask Handel Anything. You know what? I want to try something different only because... I enjoy doing things differently. So this is handle history. And what do we do? Well, I like to do takeoffs on history, things that normally people don't know about, strange, wonderful things, factoids that are completely useless, which is part and parcel of my life. So we came up with, actually I think Neil came up with this, and that's 10 strange historical facts that sound absolutely fake. We think of woolly mammoths. And how long ago were woolly mammoths around? I mean, Ice Age, etc. Do you know that they were still around when the pyramids were being built? Now, that's a weird one. Who would have ever thought that? I wish you could get a picture of those two things. Now, that would be...
A beauty. Yes. Walking by the pyramids. Right. Okay. England's last public hanging was 26th of May 1868. And there was a Irish Republican activist Michael Amy Coney Barrett convicted for his role in a bombing. And he was hanged outside of Newgate prison. And that was the last public education. If you were around, you could have gone to that hanging by their subway. The tube, which has been around, if you can imagine, it has been around that long. Even 1868, London had the first underground, and it is tremendous. If you ever go to London, believe me, that's what you want to take. You do not need a car. And... It was a 10-minute walk from the tube station, from the underground station to the hanging. Now, here's one that when I looked at was kind of interesting. Jack the Ripper. I mean, everybody is familiar with Jack the Ripper, and there were five deaths, and it was the inner part, sort of the south central part of London, where this happened. Were they all prostitutes? Yeah. I think they were. Now, you've got Jack the Ripper still making headlines when Nintendo was founded. What is that about? Super Mario Brothers, Legend of Zelda. The company that made Nintendo, the Nintendo company, was founded in Kyoto, Japan, in 1889, to produce playing cards. That's what they did. Jack the Ripper was out there, and here Nintendo is still around. That's pretty impressive stuff. There's a bit of history that you didn't know about for sure. The Great Wall of China. Now, you figure the Great Wall of China has been around for thousands and thousands of years. It actually started the third century BC, right, before Christ. But it went on and it was finished the 17th century AD and stretched over 13,000 miles. So it wasn't completed until 1878. And two years before that, Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. The Great Wall of China connected to the telephone, whoever would have thunk. Okay, here's another one, overlapping history. The Aztec Empire. You think of the Aztec Empire as thousands of years old. Well, first of all, it's not. It does go back a good 800 years. But so does Oxford University. So if you had gone to Oxford when the site of the original capital city of Mexico was founded.
You could have studied Aztec history at Oxford, and it would be modern day history. Machu Picchu. I don't know if you've ever been to Machu Picchu. It's gorgeous. Yeah, in Peru. I mean, it's phenomenal. It goes back again, thousands, well, at least hundreds of years. The Sistine Chapel was painted during that time. Michelangelo was at work with the Sistine Chapel. You think of the Eiffel Tower how long ago it was. Coca-Cola is older than the Eiffel Tower. The last execution by guillotine that occurred in France was the year Star Wars was released. I mean, come on. So what happened at the same year? This is another history and another offshoot. The Titanic 1912, that's when Oreo cookies debuted. So you could have eaten Oreo cookies on the Titanic. That's fun. The Brooklyn Bridge and the Battle of Little Big Horn with George Armstrong Custer. Japan's last samurai, the true samurai. Now we're talking about samurai warriors that go back, again, thousands of years. Samurai, why are you making, why are you making them Jewish? Samoroi. Samurai, because it is. They are Jewish. It's the samurai. Samurai. Samurai. No. Anyway, the last samurai, Takama roasting. was alive when Alexander Graham Bell made the world's first phone call. And if you remember, it was Alexander Graham Bell saying, Mr. Watsonberg, come here, I need you. Okay. That was fun, wasn't it? As we finish Friday, August 14th, and on Friday, the last segment, we last two segments, we always have a great time. And doing something a little bit different, this segment. We didn't do Ask Handel anything just because I wanted to do something else. So this morning during Foodie Friday, Neil and I was talking, we're talking as we always do. And Neil talked about AI and how AI. created the perfect burger recipe. And it was, they put together, or AI put together, what, 101 recipes. Of course, I wanted to immediately go into 101 Dalmatians, and this is recipes that you can buy in South Korea. And so this, I immediately said to Neil, what if I was giving a sermon? Let's say I'm a religious leader and I'm doing a sermon on Sunday and see how AI in fact would create the sermon. Surprisingly enough, it is a lot more generous and certainly a lot more gracious than I would normally do. Well, let me just start it.
Today's sermon is about something most of us desperately need and absolutely do not want being told we're wrong. Because apparently that has become a human rights violation. We love being told we're right. We'll sit through three hours of somebody agreeing with us. We'll subscribe to the podcast. We'll buy the coffee mug. But the second someone says, you know you might actually be the problem here. All of a sudden, we're victims of oppression. And that's where religion gets interesting. Because if you strip away the stained glass, the robes, the organ music, the little basket coming down the aisle looking for money, there is an uncomfortable idea that sitting underneath, there's a huge amount of religious teaching. You're not the center of the universe. That's it. That's the sermon. Unfortunately, I have time left. So we continue. We spend enormous amounts of energy convincing ourselves that our behavior is justified. I yelled at him because he started it. I cheated because my marriage was already bad. I lied because the truth would have hurt her. I kept the money because the company screws everybody anyway. Fantastic. You've just invented the spiritual equivalent of a plea bargain. Now, that is not something that I would particularly say. And then the sermon goes on for three more pages. And that's basically it. It is effectively an understanding, or my understanding, through AI of human nature. And it's a lot more gracious than anything I would ever say. Man, Neil, and I told you about this, why would AI make me look like basically a good guy? explaining my religion, which I'm not a big fan of, as you know. It's interesting the way it broke it down. So what it did is it took elements of you and your brashness, and it is peppered throughout there. However, it assumed maybe you would be kinder and less, I don't know, of an a-hole if you're standing behind a pulpit. Ah. Because the attitude and the energy of what you're saying, is true because you believe people are wrong when they make everything about them because in truth, everything should be about you. Okay, that makes sense. That actually makes sense when you think about this, because I do think it's all about me. I do think... You are more Trump than Trump is Trump. In many ways, I am. And I find this fascinating that that is where AI took it. But you said something very interesting, putting it within the terms and the parameters of giving a sermon on Sunday, if I were a clergyman. Well, because you're giving it input. This is what people don't understand about AI. The fact is you have two points of interest. Make it sound like you, but it has to be a sermon. Yeah. And incidentally, I do think many times you are the center of the universe. When you kill yourself, then everybody looks at you and legitimately you are the center. The rest of the time, not a chance. It just doesn't work. I think we're done.
Very interesting what AI did, and I wasn't expecting that. We're going to be talking about AI a whole bunch in the future and the different spins because it is unlimited the questions we have, the values we're going to take, and just the understanding of what AI does. And it's just absolutely fascinating. So I'm going to end with the end of the sermon as I would do it. And this is something that maybe you would expect. This is the end of our show. You are a moron. You are worthless. You have no business being listened to. Congratulations. That's it. We're done. Monday morning, we start all over again with the same group.
