Lancaster County officials urge Senate to pass data center moratorium legislation

State Senator James Malone and Lancaster County officials are asking the Pennsylvania Senate to pass legislation that would allow a pause on data center development. They say the industry is growing too rapidly. Officials in Lancaster County are urging the state Senate to act now on legislation that would allow municipalities to place an optional pause on data centers. State Senator James Malone is asking Senate leaders to call lawmakers back to Harrisburg to pass the proposals. He says the next scheduled session date, September 28th, is too late. We're literally right now all across the Commonwealth, not just in our county. But in our county and all across the Commonwealth, forcing this mad dash to a solution without the necessary time to really consider the results and the ramifications and the placements and all of those complexities. Governor Josh Shapiro's grid standards set a good baseline, he says, but he wants local governments to have their own regulations in place first. In Lancaster County, I'm Haley O'Brien. WITF News.
