PennDOT seeks input for years-long Market St. Bridge rehab project

PennDOT is finalizing plans for a project that will improve safety for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists on one of Harrisburg's oldest bridges. And PennDOT is asking the public to provide feedback. Construction is expected to begin next summer on an improvement project that will impact thousands of drivers. Dave Thompson, Community Relations Coordinator for PennDOT, says roughly 11,000 vehicles cross the Market Street Bridge every day. We are doing everything in our power right now to minimize the impacts. We estimate the bridge is going to take about six years, about four years of those will have some sort of traffic impact. The improvement project will widen sidewalks, add shoulders, and build a separate utility bridge. Plans for the project are available online and at the Harrisburg City Government Center. PennDOT will host an open house Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Harrisburg City Government Center. The public can also provide input online until September 7th. In Harrisburg, I'm Haley O'Brien.
