Good morning and welcome back to daybreak here on 92-5 Fox News right all along. I'm your host, Jason Jay Jones, along with Rob Stevens, kicking off the second hour of day break on this finally flipping Friday. Yesterday, I told you a story. And inside that story, we talked about down here in Lee County, open carry is now allowed at the polling places for the first time down here in Lee County. Here in Lee County for the first time, court said the old band is gone. It's legal for you to walk in with your gun on your hip if you want. You know, and then we had kind of a discussion about it. And one of those discussions was, you know, what kind of threats do we have when it comes to the polls? Well, yesterday in St. John's County, Florida, a man got out of his car and assaulted a house candidate and her husband at early voting. They got into an argument. It got out of hand. The guy immediately punched the candidate's husband. Oh, I'm sorry, the candidate. And then the candidate's husband had to. step in. This is a man hitting a woman, and then the candidate's husband had to step in, and the guy who punched the candidate was charged with two counts of battery. Now, although the St. John's fight did not involve a gun, it was fist-first. It does show how fast a verbal disagreement at a polling place could turn physical. And for that, I see this as one thing. An open-carried... to that same type of atmosphere. And in, and, You would think maybe the stakes go up. But I say it's a deterrent. If you see somebody with a firearm on their hip, you don't try to hit him. You don't assault him. You're not going to be that person. Now, a radical person crazy. Now, that's one thing. The other side of the other side of this particular thing is it takes away the soft target. You know, I am, I think taking away soft targets is what we need to do. If you know that... that at a polling place you could potentially have somebody with a firearm in the polling place because it's an open carry. It takes that soft target R and these mass shooters are constantly going after soft targets. And we did it with the churches with the Guardian program. We did it with the schools with the Guardian program. We are doing it right in Florida. This is just another way to take that soft target R, take that soft target mark off of polling places. let me layer it in one more time on top of that.

I don't want to be a statistic. I have a right to defend myself. I have a constitutional right to bear arms. No, you don't need to bring a gun to the polling place. That's not a good look for Republicans. If the assailant here, the suspect, was armed in this situation, it could have gotten far out of hand. Oh, say he was armed and he drew a gun and there was somebody else there that had to draw a gun. Now you have two guns drawn and you have a panic pandemonium situation at a polling place. an election day. It's not a good look for conservatives. I'm going to give you an example. Well, that would be not a good look for Democrats because only a Democrat would not know how to draw their guns properly. Not a good look for Republicans. Republicans don't draw their pistols unless they need them. I understand, but you're talking crazy. You're talking somebody who's angry. When people get angry, they lose self-control. Guys like that will draw a gun out of their holster. We've seen it. Look at what's happened across the country over the last six months when guys brought guns to a knife fight. When protesters brought guns to an ice situation. When guns come, the situation can get ugly. I just think if... It's on us to restore trust and faith and community and restore belief in the fact that the electoral system is somewhere where people can go without having to be intimidated. Republicans showing up with AR-15s on their shoulders is not a good luck. That elevated quickly. It went from a handgun on your head. Why do you need a gun at a polling place, Jason? I carry a gun everywhere I go. Why do you need a gun at a polling location? Defend myself from people that might want to come from anyone. County in Red Lee County where you're surrounded by other Republicans? Do you really feel the need to bring a gun to your polling? Do I really feel like I don't have the right to bring a gun? It's not the need. It's the right. It's not the need. I like that you brought it to a need. You know, the need is there now. You know, a lot of people say it's never been a statistic. It's there now. I only need one time for me to say that's enough for me. I'll make sure that my family and that I'm protected when I go to the polls. That's just the way I look at it. You know, I'm not going to say, I'm not going to devalue. your point about the fact that a gun on the hip may look bad to some people. But I believe a conservative and a gun owner who understands rights and responsibilities of owning a firearm will not draw their weapon unless they feel like their life is threatened. Now, the people that you speak of sound like a radical left liberal that's at the polls and mad because they're in a red state. You know, here's the deal. The bottom line is as soon as they do too dude i get it they do too you're right and as soon as you have someone say that the open carry you can blame me for my stance on it but the open carry is there it's allowed now i'm going to carry mine because i'm not going to let the radical left guy not carry his now just for the record i don't own an open carry holster we talked about that yesterday so i'm a concealed type of guy uh but i a hundred percent support the Second Amendment and not become a statistic. Although I don't think the Republicans will be judged at the polling locations for carrying their firearms on their hip. And I just think in today's climate of Florida, we don't have that.

You know, it's just I don't feel a problem. I know, but you stand on principle and that's good and that's commendable. And I admire that. And I see that there's a number of these people here that want me to shut up on this. But I'm going to come forward and I'm going to say, as a responsible gun owner and a Republican voter, I don't show up at polling locations because the process is already damaged. It's already fractured. There's very little trust and faith in the electoral process. There's always going to be election deniers. Yes. But aren't we the party that wants to restore faith in the institutions in the things that the socialists, the communists are trying to attack and delegitimize and undermine? Guns aren't the problem. Bad guys with bad intentions are the problem. You have Democrats that show up to these polls and they take pictures of guys with guns on their hip and all of a sudden you have this stuff on social media and then you have liberal fake news that go out there and start reporting saying, oh man, there's guns at polling locations. Does this count as voter intimidation? And then you get into a whole deeper discussion, a whole deeper mess of problems you have to deal with. It doesn't make sense to take a gun to a polling location. But it doesn't make sense for us one day to go, man, too bad they couldn't take a firearm to a polling location. Three people would be alive now because there had been one great Second Amendment loving gun-toting American there to save lives from that mass shooter. Becoming a statistic is the reason I don't drink and drive. It's the reason I don't do things that are like jumping out of planes at 54 years old or bungee jumping at 54 years old or doing things that may jeopardize my life like riding motorcycles anymore. I rode motorcycles for years, but I don't want to become a statistic. Right. There's an inherent risk. And that's what I'm saying. I don't want that to happen. I see a lot of people want to jump in 239, 479, 5592. Kyle from Naples, you're on. break go ahead good morning so i'm in law enforcement and i'm not of the type of you want to get to open carry go right ahead i would never if i wasn't in uniform and didn't have my vest on because if a bad guy sees you with your gun on your hip you're the first one he's taken out That's one way. Yeah, right. If he sees you with your gun, the first one taken out. But I would be willing to bet as a trained law enforcement officer that you would be able to draw your pistol faster than he could take you out. Would you agree with that statement? I can because I've been trained, but if he's behind me, though, but I don't see him coming, no. It wouldn't matter if he had to conceal or open. If he was behind you, you wouldn't see it coming no matter what. Exactly, but I wouldn't, that's why I wouldn't wear an open carry because it attracts. Let me ask you a question. So you think open carry to a polling location is a bad idea?

I'm not sure if it goes across all counties, but more specifically, Rob, if you'll check that, here in Lee County. And the conversation is about whether you believe open carry is okay at a polling location. Some think that that look, that it gives, you know, that, you know, it's a bad look for Republicans. And for me, for me, it's all about making sure I protect myself and my family. Joining us now is Mike from Lehigh. Mike, good morning. What's your question? You're on daybreak. Hey, guys. How you doing this morning? I'm going good. My big thing is I'm all about Second Amendment. You know, I carry. I got my permit, everything else. But if you're going to be going to a polling place carrying a firearm, you better make sure you know the laws of where you're going. Because if you walk into a library that has a polling place, you're breaking the law because county ordinance are... County rules says you are not allowed to bring a firearm on the county property. I think the law that says that I can supersedes that right now because it becomes a polling location, not a library. I might want to double check that. And I'm sure if I had to bet, oh, wait, wait, wait. It would depend on whether or not I have to walk through the library to get to the polling location, which I'd be willing to bet that isn't the case. I'm sure it has its separate door in a separate room at that library. And the reason I say that, because otherwise, a candidate would have operatives inside the library stopping people as they walk through. So it's going to be a separate area that's separated from the library in its own room. I think all Mike is trying to say is you should just as a. responsible gun owner, maybe just make sure that you are not incriminating yourself. Right. I'm just telling you right now. Exactly. It's not a good idea to open carry. It would be good to do your due diligence to make sure that you're not breaking any laws as a concealed or a open carry person. Open carry allowed at polling places after the court struck down the statewide ban.

I got no problem with people open carry, and I have no problem with it. But my issue is... You're letting the bad guy know exactly where your weapon is. I compare it to, you know, when people go to the bank, say Bank of America, and they got that big blue pouch that says Bank of America, bum hit me in the head because this is where the cash and receipts are. It's the same thing. You're giving up the element of surprise. You want to carry open, fine. It's okay with me. To me, I think it's ridiculous. Frank, what about the deterrent factor of it? It's a deterrent. It scares people. It intimidates people. I understand that. But if you get into a puzzle with a big crazy person, what's the first thing they're going to go for? If a big crazy person is chasing after me and I feel like my life is entreatened, I'm going to defend myself. You're asking for trouble. I understand. By open carrying? Yes. Anytime ever? I'm always asking for trouble. Oh, at a polling location. Oh, I thought you guys... I got no problem with it. All I'm saying is when you open carry, you give up the element of surprise. That's all. That's all I'm saying. Oh, right, right. I appreciate you. Thanks for calling in. Right. But a police officer open carries every day and he has no problem defending himself. That's because a police officer is a marked law enforcement officer and is expected to have everything ready to go. Thank you. Thanks, Rob. There we go. Right. Right. Thanks, Frank. I get it. Right. There you go. Look, you know. Like I've already said, it's not about optics to me. It's really about making sure the soft target is no longer on polling locations. I think that has been done by this court ruling. It becomes less of a target possibility for some radical Democrat, some radical socialist who is pissed off that this is a red county. You know, you said, do we need to hear? We probably need to hear more than ever because this is the number one threat. This is probably the number one threat to Democrats. Jason, in the news, outside of this situation, how many incidents have you heard of of violence at polling locations? Listen, I haven't done the research deep enough to give you multiple things. Oh, but it's not about. Oh, so we're bringing a gun to a place that. Has no history of violence, no history of problems. This week. Minus this story. All right. Minus this one story. Right. When has it happened before? If your house gets broke into today, are you... That's not what I asked. Hold on. Hold on. I'm asking your question. When has this happened at another polling location in Florida or even the United States? I'll give you the country. I'll answer it this way since you don't want to answer the question. It's not about how many times. It only takes...

One time. One time is all it takes. If someone breaks into your house one time, what do you do? If someone steals your car one time, what do you do? You do what most people do? They trade it in after they get it back. They don't want it back. Like, this is what happens. It only takes one time before it changes the way you are. You go into a gym and you feel uncomfortable because something was in your life. Showing up in a polling location with a gun. It will have very different moments. I'm sorry? Showing up at a polling location with a gun and having your house robbed are two very, very different contexts. It's not. It's the same thing. It takes one incident to change the way you are. Look, we can talk about it all we want. But if you don't want to become a statistic, a statistic, I'm trying to learn that word real quick. Let's do it with me. Statistics. There we go. There I did it. Good job. And if you don't want to become that, then understand one thing real quick. You have to defend yourself. And for that, you have the right to bear arms. And... I think this is a win for those who believe in it. Not everybody's going to take my side on it, but I do want to do, and obviously Rob's not. So this will be a debate, I'm sure it will go on. And if there's ever any more violence at one of the polling locations, I'll be the first person to let you know about it because I guess I need more than one, we need more than one incident to justify it. It's not really happened. Free state of Florida, I'll do whatever I want. And that is within my constitutional rights. That's why we got the name. Wink meteorologist, Zach Moloch. Zach, good morning. Welcome back to the show, buddy. Good morning, guys. And, you know, you asked me back on Friday because it's not like you had anything else to do this past week. It's been a pretty... quiet week for you? No, no. Just the normal. You've had time to leave and get coffee every five minutes. Right. I so need a refill. I'm so ready for a refill right now as we speak. You know, it has been a crazy week here. Politics and we're getting close to Election Day, which I want to get into. It's Mother Nature, first and foremost, how is our weather on Election Day? What is that going to look like on Tuesday? Tuesday's hot, dry, no tropical impact whatsoever from anything out there. We'll see. Temperatures up to 96. So it is going to be toasty. I guarantee we have heat advisories issued once again, similar to today. But in terms of rain, there are there going to be storms that impact someone heading out? No. It's going to be bonjuring. Man, that's all right. That's good. Now, let's get, before we get into the weekend, it was today. So there was, there was a tropical storm and then there wasn't a tropical. I mean, he was, he was. In and out like he was like a bad ex-boyfriend who came and left. You know, I think of like the Homer Simpson walk in. The grandpa walks in, gets his hat, puts the hat on, turns around, takes the hat off and walks back out the door. Right. That was Christobel. All right. I would love to say Christobal. It's spelled Christobal, but National Hurricane Center and the pronunciation guide. Christobo. Christobo. Exactly. Anyways, yeah, it formed, this week's been crazy for us, too, weather-wise. In terms of when it formed, it just a couple days ago, I think it formed on Wednesday into a tropical storm. Stayed at tropical storm strength. Yes, early Thursday morning began to weaken. It became a tropical depression yesterday morning. And then from there, it completely fell apart yesterday afternoon. So I think it lived as a tropical storm for 12 hours. I think you were telling me that as I was. I was like, looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. He was like, we'll talk about something that comes and goes in 13 seconds. I think you were saying that. And I'm walking out. I was like, you know, because I would have phones on my head on my head on. I was like, what did he just say? And I've tried to put, now I just realized what you said. I put it all together there. Now, but there are two more. Yeah, there's two waves, right? Yes. So the invest areas, we call them invest, just because there's still disturbances. Nothing has changed in the complex of the disturbance when we call it an invest. We call it an invest.

when we begin to investigate those waves with giving them extra models, extra modeling, extra satellite technology, trying to decipher, okay, here's where it's currently at, here's how it could strengthen, here's where they could go. So yesterday, I'm glad we're having this talk today because yesterday, if I was on your show, I would have said for the one that had a high chance of development, I would have said if it's going to develop, it's going to develop today. It only has the chance to develop today. If it doesn't develop today, it's catching up to wind shear that's currently across the leeward, windward islands, and the Caribbean. Once it touches that, there's no chance of develops. Boom, coming this morning, had an 80% chance of development yesterday, invest 92L specifically, now down to a low 30% chance a development. So that system is not going to develop. We still have model plots on it. It's still heading into the Caribbean. Still bringing some moisture with it. But in terms of a developing tropical system, it won't be a depression. It won't be a storm. It's not going to be anything. You got to bring us any rain? No. It's staying far south of us. I'm almost tired of rain, Zach, as much as I'm tired of political mailers, just so you know. They're right on the rag. I don't know if I need. I don't know if I need the same mailer every two days. It's like, it's like, do I need the val pack? I know there might be a $100 check in my val pack, but like, am I going to open it? And see the same mattress ad that's been in there. You know, you might find a nice Calvers coupon every now and then. But beyond that. Right, right. So then the other invest out there, Invest 94L, that's farther east. That has a 50% chance of development. We could see that develop into a tropical depression or a storm Sunday into Monday, thinking more likely then. Right now, this is 2,500 miles away from us. It could develop into a depression or a storm just because there's no wind shear around it. But similar to what? the wind shear is at. It's staying over the Caribbean. It's staying over Puerto Rico. This swath of wind is just racing around our area of high pressure, keeping us hot next week. And that swirling of the wind is going to tear whatever this develops into. It's going to tear it apart into next week as well. So we could see Dolly form Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, but in terms of any concerns for us here? Dolly? Like Dolly Parton? Exactly. Oh, wow. Spelled exactly the same way. I wasn't sure we were doing the pit bull. Dolly! Dolly. I don't know which way it was. You don't know anymore, right? You don't know. You would think the National Hurricane Center pronunciation guy would try and name it something else. But no, that one actually is Dolly. Yeah. All right. So so far, the overall season feels kind of mild, but we're not even at the peak yet. We're not even at the peak yet. No, September 10th is the peak of hurricane season. But as we went through this season, we've been dialing back all the numbers. Month by month. Right now calling for only nine named storms in total. We started at 13. Oh, we're down four. Down four without even getting one. Right. You're starting that over under bet.

Pretty good. Pretty good right away. Yeah. So, yeah, we were calling a raise for 13, 13 name storms. Now we got nine, nine forecast in total for the season. So far we've had three. And of those, only one of those has a chance to become a major hurricane through the rest of the year. But. That's even on the low side because of how strong that El Nino is already getting. I'm glad you brought up my little nephew, El Nino. Let me ask you a question about it. Has there ever been storms that have come through Southwest Florida during an El Nino? Yes. We had a pretty strong one in 2004. We had an El Nino pattern, of course, that brought Charlie our way, which yesterday was the 22nd anniversary of Hurricane Charlie, that Friday the 13th, August 13th. So, yes, that 2004 time was during an El Nino. In fact, 2004 and 2005 was a pretty strong El Nino year. But in terms of what else is going on, it's nowhere as strong as this year is already. We also had Adalia in 2023. Adalia was also part of an El Nino year. We were getting into El Nino through that 2023, 2024. That January of that year was really cloudy, really wet. highs in the 50s and 60s consistently. So, you know, we can have a storm, but there's just so much going out with this area, this pattern of El Niño, as well as the high pressure of last year's hurricane season in the far eastern Atlantic. It's also just as far east this year once again, which is keeping a lot of things mainly east of the United States or even south of the United States. The reason I ask that is I just want everyone not to get into the comfort zone of it. and El Nino. Let me not be prepared. Let me not. I don't even have to change the oil of my generator. Like, I have to start it in two years. I mean, understand that. How long has it been since we, when was the last hurricane to impact Southwest Florida? That would have been great point. That would have been Milton. And that was October of two years ago. Two years ago. Yes. If you haven't ran your generator since Milton and you haven't started it, please do some maintenance on your generator. Yes. Or you're going to be the person who's calling somebody when you. You don't have any power. You know, I had fixed generators. You still have that, you know, that jar of walnuts in your cabinet for two years ago, too, right? Absolutely. I have to keep those handy. You know what? It's something that I think a lot of people forget, and that's why I wanted to bring that up. I feel like it's been a long time. There's going to be flashlights with dead batteries, and we always say pre-prepared. And this year, people are going to be like, well, you know, we listened to Daybreak, and Zach and Jason and Rob said it was going to be El Nino. I don't have got to worry about nothing. All right. No, I don't want that. Whenever I do a hurricane talk, I always say the beginning of this season, don't stress yourself off, don't worry, it's why I could be relaxed currently. But I always say that the last two weeks of August, the entire month of September, and the first two weeks of October, if you just separate... are selfless forward to season into those eight weeks. And you just get heavily focused on let me tune in daily. Let me just keep an eye out. Let me be abreast of every situation and what's currently happening. Those eight weeks are the only really eight weeks you need to stay on top of that forecast because it can change. You can pop up. You want to be prepared. When we get crazy in June 1st, they say, relax.

It's a long hurricane season. But now as we enter the middle of August, these next two weeks, all of September and the first weeks of October, Of course, we had Wilma. You know, it could prove that wrong in late October. But in terms of, you know, our historical storms, those are the eight weeks to always be mindful of. Zach, real quick, are you going on on the cruise? I am not going on cruise. All right, so we're all got to be prepared. He was ready to go on a cruise a few weeks ago. And five weeks ago, he said he was going to go on cruise the first week of June. You said August or September. I remember. I remember. If you're staying, we're cool. Real quick, give us a weekend outlook before we wrap up here. Yeah, weekend outlook. It's going to be a little bit. rainy today. We'll have isolated showers and thunderstorms this afternoon around 2 to 3 o'clock popping along the coast. We will have more scattered showers and thunderstorms building inland from the east to the west, building back towards the coast around 6, 7, and 8 p.m. So those can impact some of those high scope football games tonight. We got Cape Coral taken on South Fort Myers. We got Charlotte taken on Bishop Rowe. I think we got Mariner taken on Cypress Lake. So it's week zero, but we know those coaches want to make sure that their players are tuned up and ready. Right, absolutely. They want to get going. And then yesterday, you know, heading is the weekend. We still got some rain going into Saturday. Yesterday I had a great talk. Speaking of El Nino with the golf course superintendent's association, the Cluza chapter, all the superintendents in southwest Florida as well as many GMs, we all got together and spoke about this El Nino just because if you're a big golfer. And you want to golf December, January, and February. And I am as well, be nice to your superintendents and the golf course this winter because it's going to be wet. It's going to be cloudy. It's going to have a lot of rain. All thanks to your nephew. El Ni no, man. Exactly. Saturday is going to be great. Saturday afternoon, all good? Saturday's going to be raining in the afternoon.
