I'm Emily Reese, and here's what's happening in Minnesota. A child and two adults died in what officials described as an isolated attack at a daycare in Hopkins this morning. Police say that the victims appear to be related. Hopkins Police Chief Brent Johnson says it's heartbreaking for the community and for the responding officers. Oh, this is a horrific, tragic situation for any community, especially here in Hopkins, where we don't see this type of crime. Police confirmed that they are conducting an active investigation and say there's no ongoing threat. Johnson identified the deceased adults as the daycare owners who lived in the house. Minnesota reported its highest ever number of ballots cast in a primary, according to unofficial numbers. The Minnesota Secretary of State's office reports that more than 1.1 million people cast primary ballots. That's up from the previous record set in 2018. Democrats accounted for at least 700,000 of those. That's a measure of enthusiasm that could worry Republicans headed into November. The total is about 25% of eligible voters. Minnesota saw much higher primary turnout by percentage in the 50s and 60s. Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan scored a decisive win in yesterday's Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, defeating Congresswoman Angie Craig by about 20 percentage points. Among the voters supporting Flanagan was 25-year-old Isaiah Wayne Davis of Rochester. The self-described Democratic Socialists said he thinks Flanagan is the right candidate to take on corporate interests and to pass Medicare for all. She's great. No APAC money. All individual donations. So love that she's representing the people's interests. Flanagan will face Republican primary winner Michelle Tafoya in November's general election. In the race for Minnesota governor, Republican Lisa Demuth secured the nomination over Kendall Qualls and Trump pick Mike Lindell. Dameth will face the DFL's Amy Klobuchar in the November election. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey is proposing a 2027 city budget that would cut spending and staffing across city departments and also increase property taxes by 11.3%. Fry outlined his proposal today, beginning a process that will include input from the city council and residents over the coming weeks and months. The city is facing a significant budget shortfall. Fry proposes cutting back some programs and cutting about 100 staff positions, including some currently unfilled rules. When we entered office, we swore an oath to do our best in serving this city. We serve the city best by making hard choices now, allowing us to punch through this two-year ring of fire and set the city on the right trajectory for the long haul. Fry's proposal would raise property taxes by about $400 a year for the median value homeowner in the city.
Twins and Baltimore played in Minneapolis today. Next up for the twins, they head to Dyersville, Iowa to play the Phillies in the 2026 Major League Baseball Field of Dreams game. The game sold out, but you can watch it tomorrow night on Netflix. The Minnesota Lynx play the fire tonight at 9 o'clock in Portland. Minnesota United won yesterday, helping their chances in the league's cup. They beat the Mexican pro team Adelante. And next step for the loons, they're back to MLS play with Salt Lake in Utah on Saturday. Minnesota forecast tonight, mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and storms. Lows will be in the mid-50s to the upper 60s. And partly sunny tomorrow with a slight chance of showers, highs will be in the mid-70s to the mid-80s. That's it for Minnesota today. Thanks for listening. You'll have a new update on Thursday morning from Phineas Pope.
