Polling Problems: Surveys Were Way Off in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan 8-13-26

And they also got wrong in neighboring Minnesota, where Lieutenant Governor Peggy Slanagan, the progressive, routed moderate Democrat Angie Craig in the Democratic Senate battle there by 20 points. And the polls indicated it was a much, much closer race. So yeah, three cases there were. Primary polls were way the heck off. So let's dig into that for a second here. Now, you hear the two former cases, right? And you're like, okay, they're oversampling democratic socialists that are trying to build in something that maybe is not there. But then you look at the Flanagan situation, and that's the opposite, the progressive candidate. So any rationale as to why the polls are this far off? And how much should we take from that in reading into what the polls are telling us about other races? Yeah, because a lot of people were making the argument before they brought in the Minnesota case. You know, the progressives were getting way oversampled in these surveys. But Minnesota kind of puts a stick in that argument. Chris, polling in primaries is tougher than polling in general elections for sure. And we're seeing that play out right here in real time these last couple weeks. I don't know. I'm not a polling expert, so I don't have a great answer for you. But, you know, I'm not saying discount the polls. But, yeah, take them with a great assault for sure when we look at these polls going forward. I would say discount them, but don't throw them out entirely, right? I mean, I think that you have to be very cognizant of where things are at in regard to the polling, the frequency of the polling, and trying to predict.

races here in New Hampshire, looking at Massachusetts with Ed Markey and Seth Moulton. We have the new poll, a general election one, which came out with Troy Jackson and a margin of error up on Susan Collins and Maine by 2%. From my network. Yeah, from Fox. So, yeah, I would be very, I would discount them, but I would not throw them out entirely, in particular in the races here, the primary races. And of course, Scott Brown has been saying over and over again for months and maybe even a year now that, hey, the polls don't really show what's actually going on on the ground. And, you know, maybe he has an argument. Maybe, maybe. Listen, one other things I think is worth mentioning from Tuesday night, you know, the big headlines obviously were Minnesota, were Wisconsin, even down in South Carolina with the runoff head going to a runoff in that race to replace Lindsey Graham. But what about Connecticut? Let's talk really quick. John Larson, been in Congress for over 30, 30 years. He was ousted by a much younger... 30-year younger rival challenger, Luke Brannan, who was the former Hartford mayor. Both of these guys, you know, they're both kind of progressive. It wasn't far left, first, center left. It was more generational. Yep. And he, Larson becomes the fifth House Democrat, older House Democrat, to be ousted in primaries by a younger rival. Now, that may play out again, a much larger stage in just a couple weeks in Massachusetts. As you mentioned, Marky Seth Moulton. I think, you know, Larson had a moment where he froze in the middle of a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives. I think that that was key in kind of exemplifying some of the conditions that we are talking about with establishment, the gerotocracy. And that was it for him. And I'm very interested in having been talking, obviously, a lot about this for months now. what happens in Massachusetts. And that has been a focus for extended period of time. We don't have a lot of polling out of Massachusetts, but we have seen shows a close race. As always, appreciate your time. We'll talk soon. Have a great day.
