Nithya Raman is out as chair of the L.A. Housing and Homelessness Committee, and she's blaming her rival in the mayor's race. I might be getting punished for running against Karen Bass, but Angelinos are the ones who are paying the price for these political games. Lineage hits the final stretch of the Boyle Heights warehouse cleanup. In California, ride share drivers are unionizing. Good morning. It's Tuesday, August 11th. I'm Austin Cross, and this is the L.A. report from L.AS News. LA City Council member and mayoral candidate Nithya Raman says she's out as the chair of the council's Housing and Homelessness Committee. She says the decision comes from Council President Marquis Harris Dawson, who she describes as Mayor Karen Bass's top city council ally. In a campaign video, Rahman says Bass is playing politics. I called for an audit of our homelessness programs in Los Angeles and now have been removed as the chair of the Housing and Homelessness Committee. I might be getting punished for running against Karen Bass, but Angelinos are the ones who are paying the price for these political games. Bass's campaign tells our media partners, CBSLA, that Robin canceled committee meetings for weeks and didn't show up for votes. The company at the center of the Boyle Heights' burned-out warehouse crisis says it's now cleaned up 90% of the rotting food at the site. Lineage says it's acutely aware that LA Unified Schools are reopening this week, which is why efforts continue around the clock. L.A. Mayor Karen Bass has given lineage 45 days to clean up the site. That's coming up on Friday. Once that food's gone, air regulators are giving lineage seven days to sanitize the property. California Uber and Lyft drivers are gathering in L.A. today to celebrate their newly recognized labor union. As state boards told the California gig workers union that it can represent drivers as soon as next month, right-chair drivers have been fighting for nearly a decade for union representation. In January, a new state law took effect giving many gig workers the right to bargain for overtime pay and other protections. Coming up. There was a thunderstorm and it rained and it really felt like Big Bear was shedding a tear for Jackie. A community mourns the loss of its bald eagle icon. Stick around.

Back now with the LA report, I'm Austin Cross. The Big Bear community is mourning the death of its bald eagle Jackie who passed yesterday after weeks of treatment for anemia. Carlsbad resident Christa Ryando has been coming to the site for years to get a glimpse of the Eagles. I definitely got emotional when I learned that she passed, even though like it's as a wild bird, right? But... You just feel connected. John Saunders has been watching Jackie since she was born. She knew me and I knew her. When I went down here and if I saw her flying by, I'd whistle and she'd come flying right above my head. That audio from our media partner, CBSLA, Jackie was 14 years old. And in sports, Dodgers beat the Kansas City Royals 6'5 last night for only their second win in the last 10 games. Max Muncie drove in three runs on his bobblehead night. Tonight is Salvadoran Heritage Night at Dodgers Stadium. Angels, meanwhile, lost to the Texas Rangers 4-1. Mike Trout hit his 20th home run for their only run.
