Today on the LA Report Morning Edition, LA Mayor Karen Bass says lineage has missed its cleanup deadline and its time is up. Lineage, frankly, in my opinion, is worn out its welcome in the community. Lineage, though, says the mayor's got it wrong. The community's mad at everybody. They just don't care. They don't have a heart. Plus, the feds are cracking down on abuse at California women's prisons. We're talking about demanding sexual favors for simple things such as getting medical care. Good morning. It's Friday, August 14th. I'm Austin Cross, and this is the L.A. report from L.A.S. News. lineage, frankly, in my opinion, is worn out its welcome in the community. L.A. Mayor Karen Bass had an online town hall last night. She says the company behind that burned-out Boyle Heights warehouse will miss her 45-day deadline to get everything cleaned up, and that the city can't verify their claim that 93% of the food has been removed. Bass says it's time to get the attorneys involved. I'm calling on city lawyers to pursue civil litigation and all legal options for abatement. And if needed, to put a lien on the property to make sure that the city is paid back in full. Lineage disputes passes timeline. They say they still have another week because they didn't take control of the site from firefighters until July 7th. Lineage says food will be completely gone by the 20th and that the site will be disinfected by the 27th. Now, a lot of Boyle Heights residents thought they'd get to question best last night, but she only made a statement. Folks weren't happy. They just don't care. They don't have a heart. Why are there not massive resources from the government being deployed? That audio from our media partner, CBSLA, they're promising to hold a protest at some point in the future to have their voices heard. The Justice Department says it's uncovered a pattern of sexual abuse at California women's prisons. It says the state knew about the abuse at Chino and Chowchilla, but didn't stop it. Civil rights attorney Denise Gastellum has represented prisoners across the state. She tells our media partner, CBSLA, it's been going on for years. We're talking about being filmed within the showers. We're talking about demanding sexual favors. for simple things such as getting medical care, such as safety, such as phone calls. The Justice Department's giving the state 49 days to make fixes like adding cameras and training.
A new poll in the L.A. Mayor's race is giving Karen Bass a double-digit lead over Nithya Raman. Median strategies puts Bass at 50% ramen, 39, with 11% still undecided. It says about 85% of Spencer Pratt voters are now backing Bass. Meanwhile, Politico reports that a poll commissioned by the mayor's own supporters has her with only a 3733 edge.
