8 segmentsLive from NPR News in Washington, I'm Dan Ronan. Iran is accusing Qatar of holding three of its military pilots who have been missing since March. Iranian officials said the pilots were captured when their fighter jets were shot down. NPR's Hadil Al-Sashi reports. The Iranian Armed Forces Missing Persons Committee said the three pilots went missing early in the war with the U.S. and Israel when their jets were hit by, quote, enemy defenses and they ejected. In a statement, the committee said that the Qatari military was holding them and hadn't allowed the men to contact their families or Iranian officials. Qatar's military said in March that its Air Force shot down two. Iranian bomber jets, but it did not immediately respond to Iran's latest accusations. Iran said until now there was no information on the soldiers and called on the Red Cross to intervene and investigate the pilot's conditions. Hadil al-Shalchi, NPR News, Istanbul. The Food and Drug Administration says it's on the ground in Mexico investigating the cause of contaminated lettuce that is sickened almost 10,000 people in at least 19 states. NPR's Laura Dan Sullivan has details. FDA officials say they have initiated an on-site inspection at Taylor Farms in Mexico. The farm linked to the largest known cyclospora outbreak in U.S. history. They say they're coordinating with Mexican officials. The FDA says in a statement it's, quote, confident that all recalled iceberg lettuce related to this specific outbreak is off the market. Officials noted that the best buy dates on the lettuce packaging has also now passed. The FDA says investigators in Mexico hope to sample different areas of the facility and the fields, though critics say it will be hard to gain much useful information now because too much time has passed. Taylor Farm says it recalled all iceberg lettuce from the U.S. market on July 17th. Laura Dan Sullivan, NPR News, Washington. Time is running out to register to vote in some of the last statewide primary elections of the year. NPR's Hansi Lo Wong has details. If you're eligible to vote in Tuesday's primary in Wyoming, in person registration continues through primary day. Delaware and Massachusetts hold primaries in September. Eligible voters who haven't registered yet in those states have until Saturday, August 22nd to sign up online or in person or to get their mail application postmarked. New Hampshire is. primary is also coming up next month mail and applications must be received by august 26 and in-person registration will be available at the polls on new hampshire's primary day september 8th and if you're already registered election officials recommend confirming your status and contact information before the deadline by visiting your state's official election website officials can remove your name from voter rolls especially if you recently moved change your name or haven't voted in a while Hansi Luong, NPR News.
