After several reports of supply issues and some sailors dealing with mental health issues aboard the long-deployed aircraft carrier, the USS Abraham Lincoln, a replacement carrier, the USS George Washington, is en route to the Middle East. The Abraham Lincoln has been at sea for... 240 or more days in numerous Navy families have complained of collapsing morale on the ship in food rationing because of the shortages. NPR's Tom Bowman. No matter what, both Pete Hegseth and Navy officials deny those reports. And here's the other thing. I'm hearing similar concerns about lack of food, soap, clean water on the USS Boxer, which is also in the region. So, again, a lot of concerns from sailors, from their families about these conditions. Meanwhile, Central Command said today, said its commander, Admiral Brad Cooper met with sailors and Marines aboard the Abraham Lincoln, where he thanked them for their dedication. The Lebanese Health Ministry reports Israeli airstrikes in shelling today killed 11 people in southern Lebanon. As NPR's Frank Langford reports, Israel says it was targeting a Hezbollah headquarters after the militia seriously injured three Israeli soldiers. The Israeli defense forces said it struck Hezbollah infrastructure, referring to the Iranian-backed militant group. Israel struck the Lebanese city of Nabatia in the town of Ansar, some 30 miles north of the Israeli border. Writing on X, Lebanese... Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said the Israeli airstrike killed seven women and children in Ansar, whom he emphasized were neither military infrastructure nor military targets. Lala has strengthened into a category one hurricane as it approaches Hawaii's big island. NPR's Ava Poucatch reports that Lala has maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour. Hawaii Governor Josh Green declared a state of emergency prior to Lala's arrival. It's not just the amount of wind. It's the heavy rainfall. It's the flooding. It's the entirety of this storm, which gives us pause. And again, this is a very serious storm. We have not had a hurricane. make landfall in quite some time. So none of us really have experienced this in, you know, the last couple decades. Lala could dump up to 25 inches of rain across Hawaii's Big Island. The Hawaii National Guard is mobilized to help with emergency response efforts. The last hurricane to make landfall on the Big Island was in 1871. Eva Fugatch, NPR News.
