Apartment plan in Virginia Beach faces opposition, but has planning commission backing

A plan to turn the site of what is now a brewery into apartment buildings goes before Virginia Beach City Council on Tuesday. This is John Ducet with W.HRO News. An eight-and-a-half-acre site along Kempso Road could become two apartment buildings with about 250 units and parking garages. Developers will preserve a historic farmhouse on the site and make concessions on their plans after community meetings, including providing public meeting space at the farmhouse itself. The project still faces opposition, though. Samantha Rollquin of the Kempstville Coalition says neighbors are concerned about impacts and tall apartment buildings near single-family homes. Nothing has really crossed the threshold to our community to make it something that makes sense for us. A public hearing is scheduled before the vote. Back Bay Brewing Company's farmhouse remains open. The brewery is seeking a new home. John Doucette, WHRO News.
