Live from News 887 in Houston, I'm Tom Perumian. Most Houston area kids are heading back to school this week. Houston ISD starts today. Galveston ISD also begins classes today. Tomorrow, Fort Bend ISD goes back along with four other smaller districts, including Christopher Waller ISD. Wednesday is the big day when 13 school districts will go back to class, Spring Branch, Laporte, Pasadena, and Alvin ISD students shave most of the week off. They go back on Thursday. State Representative James Talarico, the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, addressed a packed auditorium on the Pasadena campus of San Jacinto College Sunday evening. James Talarico devoted much of his speech to questions of affordability as he continued the rollout for his recently announced economic agenda. It is time to raise the minimum wage and expand overtime pay so workers can actually share in the wealth they create. It is time. It is time to repeal the big, ugly bills, tax breaks for the top 1% and give that $1 trillion to the middle class. James Talarico spoke just two days after a fourth consecutive poll showed him leading his Republican opponent, Attorney General Ken Paxton. This one conducted by Texas A&M University's Bush School. And gas prices are continuing down in the Houston area. The average for a gallon of regular is coming in at $3.52 this morning. That's an 8 cent dip compared to last week. Last year, we were paying on average 270 for regular in Houston. In sports, the Astros continue their lead in the AL West, despite a 7-2 loss to the Padres.
