Live from News 887 in Houston, I'm Tom Perumian. Harris County randomly selected for a state-led audit of the county's election operations. News 887's Sarah Grunow reports. Since 2021, the office of the Texas Secretary of State has conducted comprehensive audits of counties selected through a randomized biannual draw. On Tuesday, Harris County was selected through that process for a second time. The state previously audited Harris County's election operations in 2022, leading to state inspectors being deployed to monitor the county's 2024 general election. That audit found that at least 19 polling locations across Harris County experienced delays due to a shortage of ballot paper during the November 2022 election. It's the first state audit to be conducted on Harris County since County Clerk Tenisha Hudspeth assumed control of local elections. I'm Sarah Grunow News 887. A roughly 20% spike in new student enrollment in Christopher Waller ISD has created a backlog in the registrar's office. Though the school year started on Tuesday, the district still has more than 300 applications to go through. Sarah Marcus is the chief communications officer for the district. She calls it an all-hands-on-deck situation. hard and we wish we could get through it faster, but we are working through it as fast as we can. The district is telling families it may take five to seven business days before they can process a new student registration. That means hundreds of students in the district are at home waiting for their enrollment to be completed before they can attend class. The 48th annual Pride Parade takes place tomorrow in Houston.
