Live from News 887 in Houston, I'm Shelby Rose. We begin with breaking news out of the northeast side. Houston police say they put a stop to a man shooting at random vehicles with an automatic rifle. HPD assistant chief Yarra Andy Beshear says officers were forced to open fire when the man refused commands to drop his weapon. Now prior to the officer's arrival, The suspect shot at moving vehicles. He shot three vehicles, of which two of those vehicles, citizens were struck, and three citizens were struck by the suspect discharging weapon. And they are in stable condition and they have received medical attention. A mother and daughter were among the victims shot by the suspect. Andy Beshear says multiple officers shot the gunman. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. Houston ISD announced four elementary schools earned failing accountability ratings from the Texas Education Agency for the 2025-26 school year. The district did report major gains in secondary school ratings. Just four middle and high schools earned a C rating, all others in A or B. State appointed. Superintendent Mike Miles stayed focused on the overall improvements. The fact that the schools as a whole could do as well, I think, is incredible, and we should remark on that. Each year, the TEA assigns an accountability rating to every public school in the state. If a single campus fails five years in a row, it can trigger a state takeover of the district, and the ratings are largely based on the student scores from the controversial annual star exam. The 48th annual Pride Parade takes place tomorrow in Houston, this after being postponed back in June due to severe weather in the World Cup. Houston is forecast to have a high temperature close to 98 degrees tomorrow, and with the heat index, it could feel close to 109. Brea Butterfly Walker with Pride Houston says they're planning for that. We have cooling fans. They'll be all throughout the parade route to make sure everyone stays hydrated. We'll have... Water at every single corner and every single station that you could think of. The starting point of the Pride Parade is at the intersection of Lamar and Smith Street.
