Live from NHPR News, I'm Rick Gannley. The three Republicans running in the state's first congressional district met on stage last evening in Brentwood for a debate. There was a lot of agreement, including on continued deportation efforts by ICE in support for President Trump's military actions in Iran. On the economy, Holly Noveletsky called for more investment in infrastructure and manufacturing. The issues here in New Hampshire are really affordability. Kitchen table issues, housing, health care, energy, and jobs. Anthony DeLorenzo said the state needs to retain and attract young people. Our workforce in New Hampshire is among the oldest in the country. And although our state is right to attract businesses, without a workforce to work in those businesses, it's going to be difficult to do that. Brian Cole called for the creation of more nuclear power to help bring down energy costs. The first congressional district is considered a swing seat. Incomit Democratic Congressman Chris Pappas is not seeking re-election as he runs instead for the state's open Senate seat. New Hampshire housing advocates say the federal housing bill passed this summer will make manufactured home construction less expensive. The 21st century Road to Housing Act no longer requires manufactured homes to be built on a chassis. That's a metal frame used for transportation on trucks. Now a home can be placed directly onto a permanent foundation. Sarah Marchant with the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund says this will help first-time home buyers and people looking to downsize. And these are actually affordable homes that you can purchase, build equity in. for less than renting a two-bedroom apartment. She said that while the federal legislation restricts large investors from purchasing single-family homes, private firms can still buy manufactured home communities. In sports, the Patriots and Colts played to a 13-13 tie in their preseason opener at Foxborough last night. Red Sox led by just a run in the eighth inning last night when Caleb Dick Durbin hit the second grand slam of his career, blowing open the game for Boston and leading to a 7-0 win, and that stopped the Sox five-game losing street.
