Live from NHPR news, I'm Julia Barnett. Construction groups are asking state lawmakers to override Governor Kelly Ayat's veto of the state's 10-year highway plan. NHPR's Josh Rogers has more. In her veto message, AOT faulted the highway plan for imposing higher tolls on vehicles that lack a New Hampshire easy pass transponder. A move AOT said risked making New Hampshire less affordable for tourists. But in a letter to lawmakers, the Associated General Contractors of New Hampshire, the Good Roads Association, the American Council of Engineering companies and aggregate manufacturers, all argued the vetoed plan is the best way to, quote, ensure people and goods can move safely statewide. Under the vetoed plan, turnpike tolls would double for people without New Hampshire transponders starting in January. Highway bills are rarely controversial and generally win adoption with bipartisan backing. The last governor to veto highway plan was Republican Craig Guy Benson for whom AOT served as legal counsel before Guy Benson later tapped her to be Attorney General. Josh Rogers and HPR News.
