Good morning, everyone. I'm Kate Baldwin. It's Thursday, March 19th. Here are the five things you need to know to start your day. Number one, the energy attacks. There is new video showing a massive fireball over Riyadh as Iranian ballistic missiles hit energy targets across the region, including what appears to be an oil refinery in Saudi Arabia. And that happened just as the foreign ministers of Arab and Islamic states were meeting there in Riyadh. Hours earlier, Israel targeted Iran's energy infrastructure, including the world's largest natural gas field. And President Trump posted about that, saying the U.S. knew nothing about the Israeli attack and said Israel wouldn't do it again. He also then threatened to, quote, massively blow up that same gas field if Iran keeps up its attacks on Qatar. Add this all up, guys, this is a dangerous escalation and further evidence that the world is facing down a true energy supply shock to the global system. On top of that, Reuters is now reporting the White House is now considering deploying thousands of U.S. troops to the region. This could mean U.S. ground troops on the Iranian shoreline or Kark Island, that key Iranian oil transfer facility. Yesterday, the Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard faced some tough questions about the intelligence that led to this war, and she dodged the most critical ones on whether the intel community assessed that Iran actually posed an imminent threat as the president claimed going into the war. It is not the intelligence community's responsibility to determine what is and is not an imminent threat. Okay, that is up to the president based on a volume of information. No, it is, it is precisely, it is precisely your responsibility. Number two, the walkout. Democrats on the House Oversight Committee abruptly left a closed door briefing yesterday with the Attorney General about the Epstein files. They described that briefing as basically a setup and a fake, claiming that AG Pambandi wasn't under oath, didn't give an opening statement, and didn't give them anything. They're hopping mad about this because this meeting happened the day after the Republican chair of the committee subpoenaed Pam Bondi for testimony about Epstein and that was going to happen next month. Pam Bondi told reporters after this meeting that she was proud of the work that the Justice Department has done. Three million documents, the height of the Eiffel Tower, used 500 attorneys working around the clock, have identified, either they self-identified or through their attorneys, 1,200 victims who we did our very, very best to protect their identities. We already know that they have not complied, and we are asking other people to make sure that we do not let them off the hook right now. So we look forward to her on the record deposition.
So that is Democratic Congresswoman Summer Lee. She says that things got so tense in that meeting yesterday that the chairman, James Comer, accused her of wasting their time by quote-unquote bitching. Republicans accuse Democrats of grandstanding. Comer says he plans to move forward with Pam Bondi's subpoena testimony in mid-April. Pam Bondi would only say that she will quote follow the law. Number three, the next big thing in weight loss. There is new data out showing just how popular the new weight loss drugs are that are known as GLP1s. And now the introduction of the new needle-free version is making that market just... It seems to explode. Govi just got FDA approval for its pill at the end of December. And already, it's being used by roughly 400,000 people. And now, a second pill could be coming on market as well. This one from drug maker Eli Lilly, it could get approval as soon as next month at the same starting price of just under... just under $150. On top of this, there's a whole new generation of powerful new drugs on the horizon. They're nicknamed Triple Gs because they target three hormone receptors all at once. Clinical trials have shown that they result in even more weight loss than the current GLP1 drugs, patients losing up to 29% of their body weight. Number four, the Afro Man Victory. The rapper, most well known for his impossible to forget song, because I got high, just got a very big legal victory. Winning a lawsuit filed against him by police who raided his home. Here's the backstory, guys. In 2022, the Adams County, Ohio Sheriff's Department obtained a search warrant against Afro-Man for drug trafficking and kidnapping. But after going through his house, guns drawn, they charged him with nothing. He then turned his home surveillance footage of the incident into a parody music video called Lemon Pound Cake, referencing a moment when one deputy glanced at the cake on his kitchen counter. The Adams County Sheriff kicked down my door, then I heard the glass spray. They found no kidnapping victims, just some lemon pounded.
The sheriff's department then sued him for defamation and invasion of privacy for that video and a series of internet posts that he made mocking them personally and professionally. The deputies testified that they were targeted with death threats. Aframan testified that the speech was his First Amendment right. After they run around my house with guns and kick down my door, I got the right to kick a can in my backyard, use my freedom of speech, turn my bad times into a good time. Yes, I do. The jury deliberated for just a few hours and then sided with him with Aframan. And Aframan is back on Instagram celebrating. We did it in America. Yeah. We did it. Freedom of speech. Right on. More right after this. Finding a source you can trust for weather forecast should be easy, right? One last thing. It's a championship that means so much more. The forward for Blackstone Valley is senior Colin Dorgan. He lost his mother, his brother, and his grandfather in that horrible shooting carried out by his own father last month at the ring where he practices. Colin's dad also then killed himself. Incredibly, Colin after this, this happened last month, decided to head back on the ice, saying that his family would have wanted him to play for his team, and the team rallied around him. They got counseling and ate dinner together for 15 straight days following this tragedy. Colin ended up, scoring the game winner in the semifinals, and then came last night, where he tied the game with just 30 seconds left. Four overtimes later, his team clinched the title. and Susan Collins spoke at a press conference afterward. I think I truly felt it in my heart, in my soul, that they're still with me. And I think that I love them so much, and they're still here, and I know it. So much beauty, so much tragedy. That poor boy, an incredible, incredible man. I'm Kate Baldwin. Those are the five things you need to know to get your day going. Now get gone.
I'm Dr. Sanjay Gupta, host of the Chasing Life podcast. We're going to talk to Dr. Jennifer McIntyre. She's a microbiologist and also founder of food safety strategy, which consults with food companies about how to deal with food safety, including cyclospora. Also, perhaps most importantly, we'll tell you what you can realistically do to protect yourself beyond the standard guidance to wash your fruits and veggies. If we look at outbreaks that have happened in the past, We usually hypothesized that there was water that was contaminated with raw sewage, including from somebody or maybe a few people who were carrying cyclospora.
