I'm Bob Lonsbury, and from the Banks, the Mighty Genesee in Rochester, New York, this is Downtown Section 3rd Patum. Rachel Barnhart has been a prominent person in this community for probably 20 years. And as she grew up in Rochester, did so with a fair amount of flair. Her mom and dad are excellent people, also Trump voters. But let's move past that. Rachel then went into TV news and had a 17-year career where she was... I believe as a fellow reporter, very strong. Rachel is a person who has often attracted unpleasant attention. Some people flat out don't like her. And over the years, I've tried to be encouraging to her in regard to those situations. I don't disrespect Rachel Barnhart. I don't think that she's a bad person. I hope the best for her, as I hope the best for everyone. She has announced here not long ago that she wants to run for city council in the East District for the Rochester City Council, a seat currently held by... Oh, crap. Mary Lupian, deciding after two terms that she would not like to run for re-election. Of course, she didn't have a strong habit of coming to work in her first two terms, so maybe avoiding a third. It was not such a bad idea. But Mary Lupian, who has been a very distinctive flavor, she's been a very strong brand. Mary Lupian says, I'm not running for reelection, and I hereby endorse and hope that I am replaced by Rachel Barnhart. Now, for people like me, and maybe people like you, when you hear stuff like that, your head explodes, right? Because you go, how the hell could anybody want that cop hating so-and-so on city council? Right? Because we can't process through our brains hating cops.

Last night, committee meeting of the Monroe County Legislature, Rachel Barnhart, she goes on her thing where she doesn't want the county of Monroe to accept federal money to help with border protection stuff, money that's been coming here for 15, 16, 17 years, going primarily to, well, towns of Greece, Tondarote. Anyway, just to help with like law enforcement stuff. She says, I don't want that because I don't trust Donald Trump and I don't trust Todd Baxter, right? And so we shouldn't take that money. Now, every penny that she refuses to accept from the feds will have to be made up by a penny taxed out of our local people. Because this federal money isn't going to provide some new or different service. It is helping to pay for established continued common sense local practices. Okay? And the fed say, hey, we'll help you pay for that. And Rachel Barnhart's position is, oh, no, no, no, we don't want to be tainted by that money. We don't trust Trump. We don't trust Baxter. And you see crap like that. And again, your head explodes a second time. And you go, who the hell could not trust Baxter? Right? Baxter, I don't know if he was a Boy Scout, but Baxter's a Boy Scout, okay? He's mom and apple pie. He's decency, integrity, character, good heart, all those things. All right? That's Baxter. And you go, what the hell is her fixation with Baxter? She's bashing him and bashing him and bashing him. Well, let's all breathe deeply and explain that to ourselves. You and I, the world we live in, Hating the cops ought to be the death of a political career. Right? If you hate the cops, you're anti-cops. Then, forget it. You're over. But the world where you and I live is probably not the world of the East District of the City of Rochester, the East City Council District of the City of Rochester. where there are an awful lot of woke white people who hate the cops. Interestingly, that seat has been won by Mary Lupian twice, in large part, on a platform of, we hate the cops. I wish it was different. I can't begin to comprehend it. But that's what put Mary Lupian in office. And seeking to take that seat, Rachel Barnhart, I believe, with her attacks repeatedly on Sheriff Baxter and with her stuff of late against taking this federal money and her general anti-police posture, I believe she's doing that because she knows that that is a winning political strategy.

You and I can't grasp how that could be the case. But, in fact, it is a winning political strategy in that district. Well, who knows that she'll be successful? There is another declared Democrat candidate, some lady, Alyssa, something like I remember her last name. The primary, if there is one, isn't until next June. Okay? So let's put this on the way friggin' back burner. But just keep in mind over the next months and over the next year in the run-up to that primary, I want you to remember every time you hear from Rachel, she's posturing for that race. And the successful philosophy in that district politically is, I hate the cops. And so, I guarantee you for the next year until she gets through that primary, what you're going to hear out of Rachel Barnhart's mouth over and over and over again will be, in one former fashion or another, I hate the cops. Old Anthony Fauci was down before the Senate committee of one sort or another today, and they asked him some questions, and they came at him pretty hard. And he sat there, 84, 85 years old, and over and over again, he said the same thing. We've had Democrats of every stripe spend the afternoon and thus far in the evening going on social media and on their Democrat Fendley TV shows talking about, oh, this sainted man, Anthony Fauci, who saved our nation, is being vilified by these evil SOB Republicans. Well, um... I'll be honest with you, this occasion of Dr. Anthony Fauci's testimony and the things we've read in his journal, from his journal rather in recent days, has me pretty pissed off, looking back at the COVID thing. And we got screwed. We were frigging screwed by pompous, arrogant, public health officials.

put on your mask, stand six feet apart, wash your hands. Washing my hands will protect me from a respiratory virus? Well, that's new, isn't it? Get the shot. Oh, this is a pandemic of the unvaccinated. They're a bunch of lying bastards. Maybe they weren't lying. Maybe they just didn't know. In which point they were too proud, too arrogant to say, we don't know. But in every turn, they dictated in our lives. That tells us something horrible about them. And in every turn, we submitted to them. And that tells us something horrible about us. These bastards told us we couldn't go to church, or temple, mosque, synagogue, whatever they call it where you go. They told us we couldn't go to church. And we said, okay. The United States of Mother friggin America, Mayflower, religious freedom, First Amendment, in America, they told us we couldn't go to church. And we said, okay, liquor stores could be open. in New York, churches could not. Dumbass Andrew Cuomo came on. How many holidays was it? Was it like Mother's Day? Was it Thanksgiving? Was it Christmas? When do you tell us we could not get together with our families? When was that, right? People used to, they made a sign. It was like Andrew Cuomo peering in your window and you'd put that up because he was checking, make sure that you didn't get together. Mother's Day, he told you that Mofo Andrew Cuomo that you could not get together for Mother's Day and yet he got his mother and his family and they all got together for Mother's Day up there at the governor's mansion. How many nurses lost their jobs? No, no, it took care of the people, faced the disease, cared, got sick, took it home to their families, came back, cared some more. And then pissant governors, Andrew Cuomo and Hocco, said, you get your shot. You get your shot. If they didn't get their shot, they lost their careers. Not you had nurses? But the people who worked in housekeeping, the people who worked in the kitchens, the people who maintained the hospitals, the respiratory therapists who'd worked for a year and a half fighting this disease, caring for their neighbors, keeping the hospital operational. And they all got flushed by these bastards. Forgive my French, but that's who they are. Well, in this world, they're God Almighty. And if we don't bow before them, they're going to take our heads off. This is Downtown Section 3rd Patoon on News Radio Wham 1180. Welcome back. This is Downtown Section 3rd Platoon. They're these things, devices called license plate readers. A company called Flock with a capital F is a company that makes a lot of these products. And so you hear the phrase flock cameras different times. Across, well, other parts of New York State and in some parts of our country, there's a lot of antipathy towards these flock cameras or LPR's license plate readers. As I think around here, they're more commonly referred to. Around here, I think that we hear about license play readers a lot from the Greece Police Department. We hear about them a lot less from the Erondicoat Police Department, but both agencies use license play readers. It is a technology. It can be attached to a fixed location, say a busy intersection or something like that, or it can be attached to a police vehicle. And it will automatically scan all the license plates that pass a location or that the vehicle passes. And then it will simultaneously run. all those license plates against a database of automobiles that say maybe stolen or may be associated with someone who has active warrants or maybe someone who's like in an amber alert or something like that. And if there is a hit, say that's a stolen car or, you know, whatever else. that officer is told and that officer and other officers can, you know, seek to stop that vehicle and find out whatever they need to find out. This tool has been used very effectively by, in our region, the Greece Police Department and, as I understand it, the Erondicoat Police Department. I also understand that the Rochester Police Department is possibly in the process of moving into a license plate reader system. It would be tremendously beneficial. There's another aspect of this. There also is a short-term database that is built up, what cars passed a certain location at a certain time. Let's say that you have a string of burglaries at different places. Well, if you had license plate readers at various places, say, you know, in your community, if you had a bunch of burglaries in different places, you might ask the license plate readers that were, you know, near those various places if, say, are there any license plates numbers in common, right?

If I had five burglaries, are there any licensed plates that drove near those places at those times, right? And was there any one that went to multiple of those? If you're trying to track a person, if there's been a kidnapping, stuff like that, you can sort of data mine what plates were where, when, to see if you can find any clues to solve these crimes. To my way, thinking, all of this is a wonderful technology that serves to protect the public. But you have a lot of folks who don't like the cops, and they hate anything that allows the cops to fight the police. These are the people on the left and help the cops fight crime. Again, those are the people on the left. And, well, you have some people on the right, including a Republican in the House of Representatives, a guy by the name of Tim Burchett out of Tennessee. He wants to federally ban technologies like this in large measures, saying that, oh, they infringe on people's rights, and the government will be tracking you if you're a gun owner or something like that. And I find those arguments unconvincing. I, you know, I grew up literally in the seventh grade reading 1984 by George Orwell and Big Brother always watching. And back then, the phrase, Big Brother is watching you, meant something. There were cameras back in the book, the government surveilling people. Well, I was a kid a long time ago, and over the intervening years, society and technology have changed a lot. And in fact, we live in a world where there are cameras everywhere, right? Be careful about itching your crotch or whatever else like that because someplace, somewhere, there's a camera watching you. And most of these are privately owned and operated. Some of these are government-owned. Whenever there's a crime or something, what's the first thing that police do? They go around to see, you know, the local businesses, the local residents, rather, to see, you know, do you have any doorbell camera? Do you have any surveillance camera? And almost always they do. And, you know, yes, we're all being watched. You know, if you're kissing Lulu Bell down on the corner, you better be aware that somebody's got that on camera. But, you know, the world hasn't ended in this surveillance society, and we haven't seen big abuses, but we have, from these license plate readers, I think we've seen significant benefit. At any rate, I appreciate the good examples being set by Greece, and then also a Rondequake. And I hope that, and if there are other agencies, I miss, I apologize. But I think that this technology is useful. And I believe that it's being used within a system of integrity and law. And so, you know, there are going to be people from both sides making their pitch, want you to be for or against. And as you make up your mind, I just hope that among the factors you consider will be the fact that used by intelligent, honest law enforcement agencies, sometimes in very acute situations, much good.

Much good has been done with these license play readers or these flock cameras. So resist the temptation to jump on some bandwagon that wants to resist them or take them away. I had to get home in time for that before this show. But yesterday I got in a run. I did about six and a half miles or so. I went up State Street and I went out Lyell Avenue. I went out. passed where Victoria Jobson was dumped by her murderers, one of them, Roy Green, in court earlier this week. And then I took, I don't know, hate or something like that. South ultimately got down to, I don't know, West Main Street and then ran back into downtown. And as I was finishing up, I came across a bridge across the Genesee River, the one that's by where Dinosaur barbecue is. And, you know, the river yesterday before the rain was fairly low. And I don't know if you're familiar, but... In downtown, kind of like behind the library and stuff like that, in the riverbed, when the water is low, there are, I don't know, little rock islands, if you will, which will emerge. They're just a little bit higher than the rest of the bottom, flat layers, a sedimentary rock, and they will emerge. And when they do, the various birds that hang out on the river downtown will be there.

Usually ducks, maybe geese, sometimes a Murgans or two. And what's that one, that blackbird that holds its wings out to its side, I forget. But yesterday I'm coming back, and I run up between, oh, where the old lawyer's book cooperative used to be and a war memorial. I guess Constellation Brands is in that building now. I know that's like they're big headquarters. I just also know that I've, like, never seen any people around there. Okay? So they might have headquarters there, but not much workforce. And anyway, I cross up onto the bridge, and I look down, and on one of these rock islands, there in the middle of the river, in downtown Rochester, there were a bunch of ducks. and they all could have been female mallards or they could have been black ducks, but they're a bunch of sort of nondescript ducks. It may be a couple dozen of them, maybe more, maybe 30, maybe 40. And then standing there by them was one. tall white bird, a great egret. They're white and they're tall. They look like a crane. And as I saw that, it reminded me of an Aesop's fable that I read when I was a little elementary school kid. There's a story about, I think it's a crane who's out hanging out with some ravens. And the ravens... were destroying a farmer's crops and the crane is just there with them and uh uh the the farmer sets a trap fires a net over um all of the birds and then he goes around uh wringing their necks and killing them and as he you know has killed a bunch of ravens who'd been damaging his his crops he gets to the uh crane and the crane says um but i don't eat crops i didn't do any damage And the farmer says, well, birds of a feather flocked together. And then he rings the crane's neck and he's dead. But as I looked at this one tall crane-like bird, the great eagrith, and all these little ducks there, I remembered that Asap fable. And that line, birds of a feather flocked together. So. I took a couple pictures of this island, not thinking I'd find another person who would make that connection, that visual and that ancient tale. But as I was taking pictures with my little phone, a great blue heron flew in, kind of boldly. A great blue heron about the same size as a great egret. But, you know, you've seen these. They're gray birds. And it came in and it flew directly at the egret. And the egret jumped up and flew and flew off.

And the great blue heron landed right where the egret had been on this rock island in the middle of the Genesee in downtown Rochester, kind of behind the library. And the ducks very clearly were anxious, nervous about this heron, great blue heron. and it then began walking through them, and they all parted and got off the island. It was very clear that, one, the great blue heron was an aggressive bird. Its nature was different from that of the great egret, the white bird. and it was also clear that the egret and the ducks all knew that this great blue heron would be aggressive toward them each immediately demonstrated a defensive retreat type posture and the egret flew off abandoning its spot in the river And at any rate, the Great Blue Heron walked through, everybody scampered. It stood there for a few minutes, and then it leapt up and flew away. And the Rock Island there in the middle of the Genesee in downtown Rochester was left bare. I couldn't help but think about people and their different spirits and their nature. There are people. who can all be together comfortably. And there are people who are aggressive by nature and just a difference in personalities. But at any rate, it was all happy, happy on that island until the jerk showed up. And sometimes life is that same way. I need to run from the banks of the Mighty Genesee in Rochester, New York. This is downtown section 3rd Butoon, and we are 107 on the night.
