In a post on Truth Social, President Trump saying that the Board of Peace has reached an agreement that would involve the complete disarmament of all armed groups in Gaza. President Trump saying that as a part of that deal, Israel will withdraw from the enclave and a new Palestinian government will be created. That agreement is set to be implemented in a carefully structured phase. This, as Senate Republicans are now blocking a resolution that would have required President Trump to withdraw U.S. troops from Iran, with Republican senators Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, and Rand Paul all joining Democrats in support. On this vote, the aza 49, the nays are 15, the motion is not agreed to. Thursday's vote came as lawmakers continued to debate the expanding conflict with concerns growing over the safety of U.S. service members and rising energy costs. The Senate has considered similar war powers measures multiple times as the Trump administration continues military operations and negotiations over the future of the conflict. As some Orange County residents will see their taxes go up, the Apocca City Commission voting yesterday. to raise property taxes by some 10%. It could have been worse, though, as they also discussed even larger price hikes, that 10% increase is expected to bring in over $2 million for the city. In an update to a story that we broke to you on Thursday morning, the land police are investigating a double homicide after two men were shot to death on Wednesday. Officers responded around 10.40 p.m. to an industrial property on West New York Avenue, and there found two men suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The men were found by one of their mothers.

They have a contact next to seven hours, so we started looking all around. Both were pronounced dead at the scene minutes later. The victims were identified as 19-year-old Dustin Rose and 18-year-old Samson Campbell. According to DeLand Police Chief Jason Umberger, the two were childhood friends. The land police also say the investigation remains active. We're just going to ask the public to be patient and be diligent. Be aware of your surroundings because we may have someone out there. Public anger grew against Seattle Police Chief Sean Barnes and Seattle's mayor over the city's response to the shooting and the lack of basic information that came from the city in the hours after the shooting. The chief who was appointed in Seattle in late 2024 with the goal of modernizing and rebuilding the police department has been under scrutiny for his lack of ties to the city and frequently leaving town. Well, if you're not familiar with Honor Flight Central Florida, these good folks do absolutely incredible work here. in the Orlando area by taking our great war veterans to Washington, D.C. for the day to see the Veterans Memorials in our nation's capital. And joining me this morning here in the WDBO Studios, are two VIPs. They are Kay and Landy Dunham with Honor Flight Central Florida. Welcome to you both. How are you? We're great. Thanks for having us. Thanks for coming in. Really do appreciate it. Let's start with the backbone of this outfit. I've been married for 34 years. I know who the backbone of this outfit is. It's Kay. Absolutely. It's Kay. So let's start with you, Kay, for the folks who don't know anything about Honor Flight Central Florida. What do you guys do? So we are an organization, as you said, that flies our veterans to Washington, D.C. for a day of honor and camaraderie to spend time looking at the memorials that have been erected in their honor. It actually started back in 2005 when the World War II memorial was finally opened up to the public. And a veteran that was a physician assistant out in Ohio asked a patient of his who he knew was a World War II veteran. if he was going to go see his memorial. And the veterans said, nope, got no way to get there. So this PA had his private pilots license. And he loaded up that World War II veteran and got six of his buddies who also had planes. And they flew him to D.C. And that's how we began. And now we're 10 hubs in Florida, hubs all over the nation that do this. great work for our veterans. Wow, that is absolutely wonderful. Kay, it's such a great organization. These veterans are so worthy of all of our attention, Landy, and you have a special request this morning, and that request is we're looking for all World War II and Korean War veterans out there in Central Florida, aren't we? Absolutely, Scott. And like Kay said, I mean, we started this journey back in 2005.

And on a flight now in October of 26, we're going to open up this organization to veterans outside of our War II Korean War and Vietnam Arab veterans. We're going to start flying Desert Storm veterans as well. So Joetta Raylott's, she's our director of, as you know, Norve. Joetta is constantly in our ear. And fundraising, yes. She said, you know, now is the time. So we're pushing an information operations campaign. to have you help us get all of the Korean War and the World War II Arab veterans that are out there in Central Florida on this flight, October 17th, if they haven't already flown. Now is the time, right? Because, I mean, World War II veterans, they're at least... 100 years old right now right yeah Scott put in perspective war two ended in 1945 wow so if you were 20 years old when the war ended your hundred and wow so in our Korean War veterans are right behind 1950 right so yeah exactly veterans are few and far between and there'll be a time very soon when we won't have any so so Kay we're asking all the folks out there if if if they know a World War II veteran or two or a Korean War veteran at their local church or a family member or a friend of a friend of a friend to please contact them, correct? Yes, please contact them. If they're, you know, not computer savvy or are unable to do that, have a family member reach out. Oh, absolutely. We're nonprofit, all volunteer organization. All volunteers. And you do have escorts for these folks to go up to Washington for the day. And it seems to me like those folks might get more out of this trip than the actual heroes themselves. Scott, they definitely have a fantastic day. I mean, learning and listening to the stories from these veterans. I mean, it's never a dull moment. It's always heart touching and just to see freedom isn't free. Yeah. These young men and women did for us so we can enjoy the freedoms we have today. So, Kate, take me through a day, if you will. Take me through the day like soup to nuts from the time the plane takes off till the time the plane comes back here to Central Florida. Right. So our typical itinerary, we're taking off. Well, we meet at the airport about five in the morning, so bright and early. We make sure we got everybody accounted for, and we get through TSA, and we take off this time in the fall from Sanford Airport. And we usually land at BWI, where we rally everybody up, load them on buses, and then we bus right into Washington, D.C.

We take them to the National Mall where we see the World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam Wall, and soon the new memorial that will be opening in October. We spend time there because that's the most meaningful part for a lot of them. But then the other thing that we do every time that's super meaningful is the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown in Arlington. Powerful. Yes, we get special front row seating and it's a really moving time for our veterans to take that moment to pause and reflect on their service and the service of their comrades that are on the trip with them. Yeah. We feed them along the way. We go to a couple other places depending on traffic and other things. Usually the Air Force Memorial, the Marine Corps Memorial with the Iwo Jima Monument. And then we go back to the airport, and then we're flying back home, usually landing back about 10 o'clock at night. Okay, okay. Are family members allowed to go with them? Family members can be the guardian or the escort. Okay, okay. Except we have a rule sort of at the national level that they prefer not be a spouse. Okay. Because we want the day to really be about the veteran and doing the things the veteran wants to do, and Landy will be the first to tell you. If you go with me, I'm going to tell you what I want to do. I hear you. So also very important for those who don't go on these trips, it's very important. to welcome our heroes back to town as well, right? Yeah, I mean, your WDBO Nation is key there. Yeah. We like you to come out. Like she said, it's about 10 o'clock between 10 and 1015 at Sanford Airport this time, on October 17. Easy and easy. Easy. Come and welcome these veterans home. Bring your whole family. Bring kids. Yeah. We want everyone to see these veterans and understand what they did for our nation and give them the honor and a welcome home that they deserved that. Some never got. Yeah, you're exactly right, especially those Vietnam veterans as well. And people can come and holding their placards and their flags and the whole thing. It is one of the most patriotic events that I see in this area. Is that right? If you're a patron, you want to come and love America, come to our welcome homes. And what I've noticed is more and more people are starting to show up. Oh, yeah, they're getting big every time. Absolutely, absolutely. Several hundred folks we had at the last Welcome Home. And it's, it is, it's moving. It's incredible to see. Everybody rallied together and celebrating and honoring the service of these veterans. And considering we're going after those World War II and Korean War vets, you're talking about World War II ending in, what, 1945 and then the Korean War in the 50s. wheelchair, accessible, the whole thing? How does that work for you? Well, we like to call them light wheel personnel vehicles. Okay, I like that better. I like that better. Yeah, all of our veterans typically have, you know, light wheel personnel vehicles. And we, you know, that's a requirement, frankly. And we have some of our Vietnam era veterans that can probably outrun us both, right? Sure. But they understand that we need to be in a light wheel personnel vehicle at time so they can relax and enjoy. Yeah. And we have a lot of veterans, even Korean War era veterans that...

frankly don't need it yeah you'd be very impressed yeah right right but we bring them we bring them okay 60 veterans we bring 65 cheers actually yeah brings fairs just in case the wheel falls off for some reason okay so the next honor flight central florida is coming up on october 17th correct yep okay and typically these flights are totally full Oh, yes. We have a waiting list. Yes. And that's why we want to make sure we get the word out for our Korean War and World War II veterans because they have always been the priority. But we really want to make sure we get them in as soon as possible because we won't have another flight until the spring of next year. Okay. So if you're a friend of a friend of a friend, if you have a church member, if you know of somebody in your neighborhood, if you have a family member, a distant uncle, great uncle, whatever the case may be. We need your help, folks. Absolutely. They're not going to go on line and do this, right? Right. They're not going to do it for themselves. Right. And that's part of the greatest generation, right, Landis? That's right. It's the fact that they don't want to call attention to themselves. That's right. Yeah. It's on us to get them on this flight. Yeah. And remember, it's free to them at absolutely no cost of any of our veterans. Right. Right. Right. Our guardians pay a fee to support the veterans and trust them is well worth it. Yeah. It's just your airline fare and some food, right? Yeah, exactly. But the veterans, and that's what it's all about. 100% free to them. Yeah, and they deserve it. So the next Honor Flight Central Florida is coming up October 17th. That's coming out of Orlando Sanford International Airport. Leave early in the morning, come back late at night, but it's a wonderful day.
