The American Red Cross is declaring a national blood supply crisis for just the second time in its history. Fox's Max Gordon has the details. The American Red Cross says that blood donations are falling far short of what hospitals need this summer. So what's got to do with it? Well, apparently the weather and the season might be to blame. According to the Red Cross, extreme heat across the country has made it more difficult to hold blood drives and that many donors are out of town right now. Plus, there's been an uptick in patients at hospitals needing blood, a trend which typically happens during the summer months when people are more active. This has led to about 39,000 donations short of what's needed and less than a one day's national supply of type O positive blood. That's the most commonly transfused type of blood. Mississippians can give blood to the Red Cross by visiting the various regional chapter offices around the state in cities like Flowwood, Gulfport, and Tupol. With Super Talk News, I'm Griffin Ray.
