Chase Petty will face Patrick Bailey batting left-handed, O'4-3, switch-hitting catcher, who fouls back the first offering, strike one. Petty. His 14th appearance, a win, a save of 423 ERA. Petty. Fires. And it's high and wide, one in one. Petty is just 23 years of age, 6 feet, 200 pounds. Down the 1-1. And it's hit on the ground up the middle to his right, back end by Arroyo. Second baseman straightens, throws out the Cleveland catcher. Petty was a first-round pick by Minnesota, 26th overall. Five years ago, and the Reds got them when they dealt Sunny Gray to Minnesota.

Went to the same high school in Jersey outside of Philadelphia that produced Mike Trout. There's PD Helping. He swings and fouls it off, strike one. Six runs, eight hits Cleveland, five runs, 11 hits Cincinnati. We're in the ninth. The pitch, helping Rips one into right between first and second. He has a two-hit game. Top of the order now, Stephen Kwan, one for four with a single. Cade Smith will be facing nine, one, and two in Tito's lineup in the bottom of the ninth. Helping. Let's see if he is running. He's six for six in the stolen base department. Tyler Stevenson's not throwing very well. The pitch, and it's in there. Cleveland has swiped three bases today. Stevenson throwing out just 18% of the would-be base steals. That is not good. The one-strike pitch.

And it's lifted in the air to left, not deep coming on. Diving is freely made another heck of a catch. Boy, he's a good outfielder. He takes a hit away from Kwan. Back to first is helping. Two down. That'll bring up Jose Ramirez. Two hits, two steals, two run scored. He manufactured a run for Cleveland when they tied the game in the fifth. Six to five, Cleveland, ninth inning. Runner at first two down, Ramirez batting left-handed. The pitch, and it's in there. Jose admits that left hand where he had the broken hamate surgery to remove that bone. Still very sore, but he said that's no excuse. Play-through. D-O-1, and it's outside a change-up one-in-one. The next delivery, and it's filed upstairs, and it's another 100 miles an hour. O and 2. Bowpen's in about as good as shape as it's been because, well, this past weekend in St. Pete, never had a lead late. So your key late ending guys weren't needed, the pitch. And he missed outside. One ball, two strengths. Butter Gattis scoreless inning. Gave up a couple of hits struck out of bad. Cleveland's bullpen has today been on since the fourth inning. It's given up one run. Friedel sends that pitch up in the air. Behind home plate foul. Patrick Bailey lunging to his left made the catch as he had overrun it just a bit. That ball started to go back toward the plate. Nice job by Bailey to stick with it. That is not an easy play. One down, top of the order, Ellie Delacruz, switch hitter batting, left-handed. Delacruz, two for four, a couple of singles. Six to five, Cleveland here in the ninth. Delicruz does have 18 bombs. He takes, it's in there a strike, a split finger.

Della Cruz hits out of a very open stance. He will strike out a lot. The pitch, and it's down in a way, one-in-one. Della Cruz. Out of the DR, the pitch to him. Wide, 2-1. Cade Smith lets it rip. Missed inside, 3-1 to count. Cleveland is out of challenges on any close pitch if they wanted a challenge. Now the 3-1. There's a strike on the outer edge. Della Cruz got a 100-mile-an-hour fastball on the outside corner. Nothing you can do with that pitch. Full count now in the Red Shortstop. One out in the ninth, Cleveland, clinging to a 6-5 lead. With the All-Star closer, Cade Smith, looking for save number 30. The payoff pitch? God! I'm swinging on 100-mile on a lot.

Cleveland got a grand slam from Kyle Manzardo in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead after having not scored since Friday night in St. Pete. Then Cleveland fell behind 5 to 4 and then scratched their way back to tie it and win it in the late innings. Cleveland, 6 runs on 9 hits, no airs, 5 left. Cincinnati, 5 runs, 11 hits, one error. and seven stranded. Colin Holderman, the win in relief, he's six and two. 30th save for Cade Smith, 30 saves before the month of August. Welcome back to Cincinnati. Guardians wrap up following a six to five Guardians win in the opener of this day-night double header. The Guardians snapping a five-game losing skid in the process, and they got it going early on our Honda Drive-At-Home game summary. First inning against one of the best starters in baseball, Young Chase Burns. Jose Ramirez singled with one out. Chase DeLauder reached on an error. Travis Bazana walked to load the bases, and then with two outs, Kyle Manzardo stepped in. Burns, who again, they're going to be very careful with him. His pitch count, his endings this year, and he's going to make at least 29 pitches. The next one, swung on and hammered to deep right, away back and gone. A grand slam to right by Kyle Manzardo. And the best replay challenge that was ever overturned in the history of the Cleveland Guardians. Instead of it being 1-0 Cleveland, 4-0 Cleveland on Kyle Manzardo's first Grand Slam of the year, Cleveland's fourth Grand Slam is a team. Manzardo's team high 12 homer giving him 36 RBIs. So a quick start for the Guardians, but the Reds would battle back against starting pitcher Slade, Cicone, and the bullpen. A Sal Stewart home run in the third inning put them on the board. And then they took the lead with a four-run fourth, an RBI double from Tyler Stevenson, an RBI single from Edwin Arroyo, and a two-run single from Sal Stewart. And that put the Reds over the top. They let it five to four heading to the fifth inning. But in the fifth... The Guardians would tie the game, and it was the Jose Ramirez show. Here's the pitch to Jose Ramirez, and he lines it down the right field side, and it's dropping for a base hit. Cut off in the corner by Bladay, and he'll hold Ramirez to a long single. Here's the pitch to DeLauder. On the move is Ramirez, and he'll steal the bag without a throw. Number 25 for Jose Ramirez. Here's the 1-0. He's taking off for third. The throwdown is not in time. Safe at third base is Ramirez. He's single-handedly trying to energize this ball club. This ball club has... been flat at times since the All-Star break. He knows right now this club needs something good to happen after blowing a 4-0 lead. Who else? But Jose Ramirez says, all right, follow me. So the infield in now for the Reds. And he's down there with less than two down. Now we'll see if DeLotter can get him in. This has really been a struggle point. Here's the two one. Swung on and it's driven to left. This will do it. Getting back and making the catch is Fidel. Tagging, heading for home is Ramirez. He scores and we are tied at five. How about that? That's part of what the offense has been missing. That style of play from Ramirez.

And DeLotter with RBI number 51, got the job done on the sack fly. So the game was tied at five, and it stayed that way until the eighth inning. That's when the Guardians would put together what proved to be the game-winning rally is Chase DeLotter singled with one out. Then Travis Bazzanis singled. And that gave the Guardians an opportunity with runners on the corners. and Brian Rokio at the plate. The O-1 now to Rokio, infield partway, and he bounce back towards the mound. Coming home with a go-ahead run to Lauder. The throw goes to first to get Rokio, Bazana to second, and another perfectly executed safety squeeze by Brian Rokio between the mound and first, and he bunted it in a perfect spot. that enabled DeLotter to score with ease and get Brian Rokio RBI number 50, 6 to 5 Cleveland. But I've used that play a lot and it has worked a lot. And in today's game, that proved to be the decisive run as the Guardians win it by that 6-5 final. But there was a great play to end it in the ninth inning with a man aboard for the Reds. J.J. Bladay was at the plate facing Cade Smith. The next pitch. Swung on line to right field. Coming on, diving Martinez. He made the catch ball game. A great diving catch in right field by Unhill Martinez. And Cleveland takes game one today on the banks of the Ohio River. Six to five. And that's what the Guardians need some key hits and also some good defense, and they got that today, plus that dominant bullpen as Smith finished thinged up for the Guardians. The winning pitcher in relief was Colin Holderman, now six and two on the season. Kate Smith with his Major League best save number 30, and the loss went to Sam Mall, who falls to one and seven for the Reds. The Guardians with six runs on nine hits and no errors. Five men left stranded. For the Reds, five runs, 11 hits one error, and seven men left on base. Let's head downstairs and hear from manager Stephen Vogt. The Manzardo at bat. Just, um... You've been in big league at bats, and it's easy to call for a walk or whatever else to reset yourself. Just what did that tell you about where he was at? Yeah, that was awesome. I mean, obviously, we had burdens on the ropes there in the first, and for Manza to come up with two outs. He gets hit by the pitch. You could hear the two, which, but then on replay, it didn't look like it. But it's hard to regroup. You get hit in the hand, and then you've got to get back in there, and he got a hanger and didn't miss it. So that was huge. We needed that in the worst kind of way. You talk before the game about working a pitcher nowadays, how different it is, but you guys did kind of do that a little bit. Yeah, I thought, you know, Burns has really good stuff, and we made him work. We made him throw a lot of pitches. I was really happy with... the little chase that we had down below the zone. And we got some hits and we got some, you know, a lot of traffic against them and got them out of there through five. So great job by the guys. What did you make of Slade today? You know, I thought Slade came out really good. I thought the first few innings and then I thought in the fourth kind of hit a little bit of a wall. Just kind of the veloat started to drop. The stuff started to kind of tick off. So great job by Timmy coming in, getting the ground ball to get us out of the inning. And we didn't complete the play. And, you know, they came back. But the bullpen was outstanding today. Slade battled for as long as he could, but the bullpen was unbelievable once again. Seems like Cade's been sitting 99 of 100 lately. What have you seen from him and looking at due to elevated stuff? Well, Cade's the hardest worker in the big leagues. I mean, he keeps himself ready, and he's had some rest this last few weeks, which... Don't know if that's a good thing for us, but at the same time, you know, he's had some couple periods of like three days off. And so we're seeing him carry his velocity a little higher, but again, he works tremendously hard to be ready every day, and he's been outstanding. What do you like about squeeze spots? Is that just one of the more, like, healing things you can see when it works? Yeah, I mean, obviously the safety squeeze is a great play. It's hard to defend.

And it's hard to hit the ball in forward in the big leagues right now. And so you get an opportunity to get a one-run lead or you get an opportunity to pat on. You want to take it. And we have some very skilled bunters. And when you have the right runner at third, it just makes sense. And Roki did a phenomenal job getting it down. And Chase got a good jump. Jose looked like he just wanted to will himself for a run in that situation. So how cool is it to see somebody produce that? You know, we're spoiled because we get to watch him do that. But he legitimately said, I'm going to get a run for us. And great swing by Chase to drive him in. Tosy single, stolen base, stolen base, all of a sudden we have run around there, less than two outs. And he's done that a number of times over the course of his career. But you can just tell when he gets into I'm going to produce a run mode and can't really stop him. On the scorecard, most people are going to see a couple number two's written down. Patrick Bailey. Can you explain to people how hard it's been to on a day game to catch those two balls he had to catch? It's a really hard play. I'm a little biased, obviously, but there's a lot of spin. You don't see the ball off the bat. So you have to pick it up. You've got sun, you've got glare, you've got equipment, you've got people in your way. And those are spinning a lot when they're coming back down. So great job. You know, a lot of guys make it look easy. It is not. And Patty made two really good plays there. Is your view of on-house catch them again? I didn't see the ball off the bat because we lost. it in the rail or the dugout but then you see Angel running in and I saw him get the glove underneath it and unbelievable play to end a game that we desperately needed a win today and good to get the first one. With the win, the Guardian snap of five-game losing skid. They are now 55 and 53 on the season, and as they head into play tonight, there'll be a game and a half back of the front-running White Sox in the American League's Central Division.
