He was very, very grateful. Ford also asked the president to remove tariffs on lumber, saying that that would allow them to get the fires more under control. We can harvest these areas and ship them down. I've got to remind President Trump that 33% of the lumber, and we have better quality lumber here in Canada, comes from Canada to build their homes. The president telling reporters on Sunday that he had a good phone call with Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney, who said in a statement on Monday that he's now matched tariffs on automobiles, claiming that the president... violated the CMA. And WDBO, what do you say we get that extended forecast for you? It is brought to you by Metlock Lifetime Roofing. Gentlemen, eyewitness News, Chief Meteorologist, Tom Terry. A drier outlook today, Scott, and we have a tropical storm to thank for that, if you will. It is a tropical storm bertha in the central northern Gulf Coast, and it continues to move on the westerly track away from us, and it's battling dry air of its own, keeping it relatively weak this morning, also helping to bring in some drier air. for us. Slight chance for rain today. Otherwise, hot steaming 95 degrees. Our heat index around 102, 96, tomorrow all the way into the start of the weekend. From Channel 9, eyewitness news, I'm certified. Chief Meteorologists, I'm Terry. Currently, we're looking at 81 degrees in Castleberry. It is 80 and sunny. at Orlando Severe Weather Station. He's in that WDBO Traffic Center. How are we rolling on a Tuesday morning at Torrance? This guy, we get delays on eye for eastbound from just before 192 to 535, also slow 429 to World Drive, tap at the brakes at 532, and then slowing from Michigan Street to... Colonial Drive. Also got delays from Fairbanks to Maitland Boulevard just before Maitland. Got a crash approaching Maitland Boulevard that's got the two right lanes blocked with rescue crews on the scene. And watch out for a crash along 528 heading eastbound just as you get to Goldenrod Road. From the WDBO Traffic Center. I'm Ed Torrance. 8.09 now. Good Tuesday morning. I'm Scottanez. Orlando's morning news here on WDBO 107.3 FM and AM 580, Orlando's News and Talk. Well, from the Florida panhandle to the southern tip of Texas, the alert is up for Tropical Storm Bertha. Let's go in depth now. Live to Texas this morning in ABC News correspondent Jim Ryan. Jim, you just never know when these storms are going to pop up during hurricane season. And we've got Bertha now in the Gulf. And this is a storm that has its sights. set on the northern Gulf Coast, Alabama, Mississippi, and I'm seeing New Orleans in its sights as well here, Jim. Right, yes. Escambia County, in fact, is probably going to be flying double red flags today to keep people out of the water because of the rip current that's likely to be created as Bertha skirts along the Florida Panhandle then moves over toward Alabama, Mississippi, and then New Orleans area. Probably going to make its first landfall on what? Wednesday afternoon, maybe Thursday, late Wednesday evening, right around the mouth of the Mississippi River. It's not going to rise above tropical storm status. That's the expectation at least. But yesterday it did meet that threshold of 39 miles per hour, the top sustained winds to become tropical storm, Bertha Scott. So this is pretty much a rainmaker for the Gulf Coast. And anytime you're talking about a lot of rain and the city of New Orleans, there's always a concern there, right?
Yeah, absolutely. I mean, there's a hard lesson with Hurricane Katrina. And now every time they start to have something like this boiling up out there, the city starts to lower the level of the canals. They start to make preparations, making sandbags available to the homeowners, the business owners, so that they can protect their property as well. But yeah, rainmaker is a good way to put it. Two to four inches, maybe in the New Orleans area, but the storm surge also, the storm surge, two to four feet right along the shoreline. The warrants in its side. Houston, Texas also in its sites as well. There's another city, Jim, as you well know, being there in Texas prone to flooding. So is Houston ready for lots of rain later on this week, too? Yes. You know, I think it's been fairly dry down there. The points to the west of there in the hill country, they've been deluge. But Houston, not so much. So by 1 o'clock Friday morning, it's thought that Bertha, which will have died down to tropical depression status again, will come ashore, kind of drag in around Galveston, make its way up through Houston, and then up towards central Texas. So this could be a rainmaker for many parts of the state of Texas by the end of the week. Right, Jim. Thank you for that report, as always. Appreciate it. That is ABC News correspondent, Jim Ryan, live in Texas force this morning, keeping his eye on Tropical Storm Bertha. Thank goodness, Bertha not coming to Central Florida. All right, let's move on, talk about our top story this morning. President Trump made a surprise announcement yesterday as he said that he is going to impose 50% tariffs on most Canadian goods effective in 30 days. That is... Unless Canada drops what the administration calls discriminatory trade barriers against U.S. products. Of course, the move comes a day after the president again threatened to impose the tariffs on Canada following the wildfires there that sent this thick smoke pouring into the United States last week, made major impacts on some major cities. to the north of us like Boston and New York, Minneapolis, Detroit as well. Of course, the president watched Sunday's World Cup final alongside the Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and later told reporters that the subject had come up. Here is the Ontario Premier, Doug Ford, who has had some negative things to say about President Trump in the past. But here's Doug Ford on CNN. He's not happy with the news of this 50% tariff here, go. You know, this is beyond politics, our relationship, Wolf. I know when neighbors need help, you go and support them, just like we did. And Hurricane Helena, we sent over 50 utility linemen down there, trucks, I should say, over 100 utility linemen to support the people in the Carolinas and Georgia. We had our water bombers.
ready out west to support the California fires. Right now, I understand that there's, I had a triple check this figure, over 40,560 fires since January 1st of this year in the U.S. and burnt 3.9 million acres. And I just... I just find it very frustrating that President Trump wouldn't say, here, we have assets, we'll bring them up there. Because I can reassure the American people, when you have any natural disasters, we will be there within seconds of a phone call. And we love our American neighbors. We're going to be there to support them. But it's unfortunate, you know, the president has to politicize it. And maybe what. the president should do is get rid of the tariffs on the softwood lumber, lumber, because 33% of all the lumber the U.S. uses comes from Canada. And when you put tariffs on it, there's a reason why housing construction costs are going through the roof in the U.S. and not making it affordable because of these tariffs. I want to work with our great friends and allies. And I emphasize great because, again, I love the American people. I know they love Canadians. But not one asset, not one offer from the president has come through to the prime minister or myself. We need support. We need help right now. I feel love. That's Ontario Premier Doug Ford on CNN. Not happy with our top story. President Trump announcing he will impose 50% tariffs on most Canadian goods effective in 30 days. That is, unless Canada drops those trade barriers against U.S. Auto. and dairy products. It is 815 now at WDBO. Good morning. I'm Greg Rhodes. As Congressman Maxwell Frost announced on Monday that he's now seeking answers over alleged wage violations affecting workers at Epcot. Frost sent a letter to the executive leadership of Delaware North requesting answers about allegations that employees at Petina Group restaurants inside Disney's Epcot Italy Pavilion were not paid for all of the hours they worked over several years. Frost is seeking information about the company's timekeeping, payroll, overtime, and wage and hour practices as part of his congressional oversight responsibilities after he says Central Florida constituents raised concerns over the matters. In his letter, Frost requests his questions be answered. no later than August 3rd. Frost is a member of the Congressional Labor Caucus. Isaac Abdel Messiah, WDBO News. Senator Rick Scott believes that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is an anti-Semite and a terrorist sympathizer. Senator Scott making that claim yesterday after Zohran Mamdani threatened to have Israel's prime minister arrested. The senator is saying that the threat makes Zohran Mamdani's hatred and radicalism crystal clear. Also writing on X that it's time for Zohran Mamdani. to go live out his communist dreams in Cuba. Two brothers, infamous misogynistic social media postings, will remain in federal lockup in Florida as courts debate whether or not to grant the UK's extradition request.
Andrew and Tristan Tate will remain in federal custody as per a U.S. magistrate judge in Miami. The brothers were apprehended pursuant to charges against them for rape and sex trafficking in the United Kingdom. Their lawyer, Joseph McBride, says the brothers are innocent and shouldn't be sent to the U.K. They've never done nothing wrong. They shouldn't be extradited for crimes they did not commit. The brothers who have a lengthy career of social media influencers are often criticized for openly discussing harming women. They often apply the... term misogynist to themselves. In Miami, Evan Brown, Fox News. We might be talking about how quickly it seems like summer has gone by, but at least for one school in Brevard County. It never even started. It's called Challenger 7 Elementary, a year-round school where breaks, called intercessions, replace traditional summer gaps. School officials say this helps prevent students from suffering the so-called summer slide or the learning loss that follows an extended break. More than 400 students were welcomed back by teachers, Brevard County firefighters, and district officials. Kindergarten classes will resume on July 23rd. Hayden Wigs, WDBO News. They had never even had to go back to school shopping. Okay. All right. Well, for the rest of the kids who go to the regular scheduled public schools, Orange County begins on August 11th. That's a Tuesday. Seminole begins on Monday, August 10th. Osceola is Monday, August 10th as well. Thank you for the update. Greg 818 WDBO on this Tuesday morning. What do you say we get that extended forecast for you? It is brought to you by Metlock Lifetime roofing. Hello, Tom Terry. Good morning, Scott, as we keep an eye on, tropical storm bertha, slowly churning in the Gulf. That is moving away from us. And dry your air is going to be moving in. We only had scatterstorms yesterday, less rainfall today. Our rain coverage around 20 to 25%. So about one out of four of us. We'll get some rain today. a high 95, 96 tomorrow, 96 Thursday, and probably holding right about that same mid-90 all the way through the upcoming weekend, a better chance of rain, though, returning towards Saturday afternoon. From Channel 9, eyewitness news, I'm certified chief meteorologist, Tom Terry. And right now I'm looking at downtown Orlando, where we've got 82 degrees. It is sunny in 81 now. at Orlando's severe weather station. He's in that WDBO Traffic Center. How are we doing, Ed Torrance? Scott, we had a crash on I-4, heading eastbound approaching Maitland Boulevard. You've got vehicles still there on the right shoulder. Rescue crews had the right lane block. They have since left the scene. So all lanes are back open, but you still got those delays that begin approaching Fairbanks to Maitland. And then I-4 Eastbound also slow from just before 429 to World Drive, 192 to 535 into downtown from Cayley. to Colonial. From the WDBO Traffic Center, I'm Ed Torrance. Relax at the nightman. We are programmed to receive. You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave. How about some good news from Clark Hauer this morning? He says rent is down across the country. We'll hear from our consumer warrior coming up next.
