You're listening to Bill Handel on demand from KFI AM 640. You are listening to The Bill Handle Show. Imagine all the people. KFI AM 640, Bill Handel here on a hump day Wednesday, July 22. Coming up Friday, usually at 8.30, but we're going to do it at 8 o'clock. It's Ask Handle Anything. And then Foodie Friday will follow that from 830 to 9, and we need you to get involved. And during the show, go to the iHeart radio app, click on to KFI. You'll hear this show streaming. Click on the microphone and you'll have in the upper right hand corner, you'll have 10, 15 seconds to record a question of handle, ask handle anything. And then the whole point is to embarrass me. Neil chooses the question and then we go to work. All right. Oh, this is a tough one. This is a tough one. And I am of the ilk of, I have a hard time that in America many people just don't have enough to eat. It really rips into me. So there are Arizonians, 440,000 of them losing SNAP benefits. Why? Because of money that is no longer going to the states. The states administer SNAP but is paid for by the federal government. Well, there are new barriers. Well, which means pressures on food banks have soared because if people need SNAP payments to eat, where are they going to go? They're going to go to food banks. And the number of Arizonians getting SNAP benefits have fallen to about half in less than a year. I mean, that is huge. Does that mean fewer and fewer people are hungry? No. Nope. There was a law passed last year that limits assistance. President Trump championed the law. And so many of those 440 Arizonians, half of them, still remain eligible for help, those that dropped out. The problem is that the new law establishes steep penalties on states that make too many mistakes when awarding benefits. And I mean steep benefits to the point where Arizona is losing or paying so much money. because of the penalties, because of they're not administering the SNAP benefits appropriately, that they may just have to bail out. They just can't afford it. The state just cannot afford it. Now, the argument is, and this is the administration, I'm sure to an extent this is absolutely true, a lot of fraud, a lot of waste, a lot of abuse. Well, isn't that every program that the government administers? I haven't heard of waste and abuse, for example, in the military with a trillion dollar budget. No such thing as fraud, abuse, or waste. Every contract is legit. Every contract is appropriate. It's these social programs that have the abuse and the waste. And the penalties that the federal law imposes up to $300 million just in Arizona.

5:29

Well, Arizona is saying you could be forced to eliminate the SNAP all together. According to the Arizona Department of Economic Security, the director Michael Weisshard said, this is an existential threat. Why? Because states like Arizona were contemplating a world in which SNAP isn't available. One in eight Americans receive help. Can you imagine the number of Americans who need help? The Biden administration unilaterally raised benefits by 25%. The Trump administration has not reduced benefits, but is just making it far more difficult to get benefits. I mean, and they're talking about the error rates, to the point where homeless people... They're considering, and some of the rules is that homeless people have to have affidavits from people who drop money into those cans, into those containers to prove that they, in fact, are hungry. It used to be you just said it. I'm hungry. I need, I need food. I need food stamps. Weren't these services originally a leg up and not a lifestyle? Yes. Social Security was a leg up and it has become a lifestyle. It has become people who, it was always, it was planned that it would be a supplement to savings and retirement plans. It is not. But these services just go on ad, they do, at infinitum. They do. And it becomes. an albatross, it's just a weight. You should be helping people out of situations. I understand, but let me ask you this, and this is the problem, Neil. How poor do you have to get? Now, unemployment benefits, those make sense because, and again, huge fraud goes on in the world of unemployment, but you have to go and show that you have applied for work on a regular basis with unemployment. And there is some level of control. The problem is it's your word. Just signing after David saying, you know, I went, I went to the gas station and applied for work to pump gas. We don't have gas stations that pump gas. You cannot apply for that. These systems are so out of whack. They are. Good people always get nailed. I'm the one that has to ask for a key to open up the, you know. container for razors or for spray paint because some wingnut was stealing it. So the people that are not getting these benefits are because we're not punishing the people that are taking advantage of. But that's always the case. Speed limits. Laws against robbing banks, for example, or theft or burglary.

8:34

Whether the law exists or not, I'm not going to burglarize your house. I'm not going to burglar your house. That's just not something I would do. I don't need that law. But at the same time, it's in place because there are people that have to be controlled by that. 20% of the population or less are causing problems for the 80%. Well, then we move right into the benefits of euthanasia. And what percentage of people you just outright kill? Why don't I care if young people go to China? Yeah, who are an albatross. Yeah. There's no easy answer here. Other than do you err on the side of giving people food stamps? for those people that need it, or do you err on the side of controlling waste and abuse? And in my belief is I'll take the abuse and waste so people don't starve. That's just my view. And because, you know, I've always felt that with minimum wage, people that work 40 hours a week and are earning minimum wage or less, Kono, for example, should... should be able to eat and put a roof over their heads. And that's just not America. That's one of the big problems I have for the United States. Just the minimum wage is just to do it. People need more trade education and more education. Oh, and 100%. But look at the, but you're right, Neil, but look at the cost of that. But this is about opportunity, not about your ability. Yeah, but let me ask. I don't disagree, but opportunity, where do you go with opportunity? When there are no opportunities, look what AI is doing, wiping out entire industries. Everyone says that, but when you look back on when the internet itself came in, a ton of jobs were lost. Yeah, no, there's no question. And then more millionaires were made. Right. No question. No question about it. It's ingenuity. It's creativity. It is, but it's also, it's also long term. It is also much more long term in investment. In the internet, it was private investment in the case of cars, replacing carriages, you know, horse and buggies. It was private industry that paid for that money. Okay. Moving on to what's going on in New York. The. The Democratic socialist mayor, Zohran Mamdani, Zohran Mamdani, challenged the federal government to execute an international arrest warrant against Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, calling him a war criminal and the architect of a horrific genocide against the Palestinian people. I have a real problem with describing anything that's happening in the Middle East as genocide. Genocide is going after a people because they are their people, wiping out the Jews, for example, to try to eliminate them from the face of this earth. That's genocide. What the Turks did to the Armenians in 1915 to simply destroy the Armenian culture and to kill as many Armenians. That is not what's going on in Israel.

11:47

Now, a lot of people are dying, and there's a whole question as to how Israel is handling it, but they are not out to kill every Palestinian. They are there to stop Hamas. If Hamas left Israel alone, I don't think Israel would attack Gaza. It's that simple. The problem is Hamas as a policy, as his charter is the destruction of the state of Israel. That is a problem, which Israel has to defend itself. However, how it's defending itself? So you have the October 7th attack. Israel responds by basically taking out 80% of all the structures in Gaza. And 70,000 people have died. Have they gone too far? Well, yeah. Certainly, in my opinion, they're accused of withholding aid. Humanitarian aid. Israel denies it. But we saw people starving. We saw people fighting for food that did come in. Israel denies that ever was denying humanitarian aid. And they say, and look what we do. When we bomb a facility, a building, a command center, we send leaflets out to the neighborhood. We drop leaflets. We make cell phone calls. We go on loudspeakers until people get the hell out of there. We're going to bomb it. That's not genocide. That's telling them we're going to bomb it. And then they... do precisely that. They wipe out their homes. And so what does Israel said? Benjamin Netanyahu, says, hey, what do you do when you have a terrorist group that is dedicated to the destruction of your state and your people that embeds itself in a civilian population? Do you simply let it happen? because of the fear of or the concern of taking out civilians or taking out structures, homes, hospitals. I mean, it's not that easy. It's a little complicated to say the least. So with that in mind, the international... Criminal Court, which is an international organization that most countries, most countries have signed on to. What they have done is call Benjamin Netanyahu a war criminal, the architect of a horrific genocide against the Palestinian people, and have a warrant for his arrest on war crimes. And Zohran Mamdani has said when Benjamin Netanyahu comes to New York in September, I want him arrested. I am talking to authorities and the police here in the city to execute the warrant on behalf of the international criminal court. A couple of problems with that. One, the United States isn't even a signatory to the international criminal court. The U.S. is saying, what are we going to do? Arrest based on a warrant in an organization that we don't even recognize?

15:02

Really? And then when you have cops in the city of New York arresting the head of state coming into the city, really? And what Israel and Benjamin Netanyahu was saying, this is a cheap publicity stunt, which of course it is. And even Zohran Mamdani said, well, you know, after talking to my authorities, to the authorities and talking to the legal beagle eagles here at the city, we have decided we cannot arrest him that we don't have the authority to arrest him. The appropriate response to that is, duh, really? Thank you for that. And Zohran Mamdani is making a political statement. He is pro-Palestinian 100%. He is anti-Israel, even though he gives lip service and says, I believe the Israeli state should exist. I believe he would have no problem with a Palestinian state that incorporates the entire Middle East. Absolutely no problem. That's my view of it. There's no question about it. But the problem is Israelis become a pariah state in many ways. Israel used to be the paragon of the people that have come back from the ashes of the Holocaust, established a democracy and the only true democracy in the Mideast, strong ally of the United States. A lot of discussion going on because of what's happening in Israel. Is it a war crime? Yeah, I think starving people is a war crime. I do. Is it genocide? No. But is it a war crime? Yeah. And Israel denies that it ever has. Give me a break. But their argument is we are stopping everything from coming in that has dual purpose. For example, technology. For example, generators coming in because the generators can also help the Hamas on a military basis. Oh, that's the other thing. There's no electricity there either. And water supplies are, just don't exist. It is better now. Israel has let aid come into Gaza. By the way, people in Gaza, the Palestinians rely almost 100% on humanitarian aid coming in. They have no industry. They have no economy. Hamas still controls the one third of Gaza that is left for Hamas to control. And one of the main proponents or one of the main reasons that it were philosophies that Israel has in terms of occupying is it says we just have to be safe. And we cannot have Hamas there. We just can't. So we're willing to talk, but Hamas has to disarm. And Hamas says, you are dreaming.

You can go pound sand, which is very appropriate in that part of the world, I might add. That actually has a fair amount of meaning more so than here. All right. Before we get to Dr. Jim, Neil, the Dodgers are playing baseball. That's what they play. Baseball. You said it, Bill. Your official home for Dodgers baseball is AM 570, LA Sports this afternoon. Your back-to-back world champion Dodgers take on the Phillies in Philadelphia. First pitch at 340. Listen on AM 570, LA Sports and streaming on the IHeart radio app. Brought to you by Sapporo. Great moments. Start with Sapporo beer. Good with sushi. Great with baseball. Oh, there you go. Well done. Well said. Yeah. Now, if the Dodgers were mainly Jewish players had, it would be, as you say, sports. L.A. Sports. Exactly. All right, guys. Dr. Jim Keeney, Chief Medical Officer for Dignity St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach. Jim, good morning. Good morning, Bill. Okay. Actually, some good news, unfortunately. And that is, I don't know if this just came out or a study came out. about young women having a close to zero risk of cervical cancer death after getting the HPV shot, which I don't understand how every female person doesn't get an HPV shot when young. Yeah, no, it's a very effective shot. It's the first time we've shown that a vaccination can drop a cancer death rate close to zero. So it's pretty impressive news. And what happened was a study in England, and when they looked at it in the registry is that women ages 20 to 24 dying from cervical cancer between 2020 and 2020. dropped to zero. So that's the first generation after they routinely offered HPV vaccine at age like 12 or 13. So pretty impressive. And now I'm assuming medical science have established that the absolute zero rate of women getting cervical cancer are very close is women who don't stup. which I'm assuming is a very small number of women. And the question is, how young do you give an HPV shot to someone? How young do they have to be? So right now it's recommended 12 to 13 so that you definitely get it before sexual activity because the whole thing is it prevents the HPV long-term infection, which leads to cancer. So if you get the infection, right, the vaccine doesn't really do anything to treat it. It doesn't do anything to get rid of it. So once you've been exposed to HPV, the vaccine itself really won't have much effect.

20:59

But, you know, and still, the rate has been zero of cancer deaths. So what that doesn't mean is there still are people that are having, you know, pre-cancerous changes, still need biopsies, still need treatment. But that number is extremely low, where it used to be maybe 10%, it's now 1%. It's a huge drop. And like I said, cancer death, which is really what you want to avoid, is zero. That's just... super impressive and very encouraging. Normally in that same age group, you'd have like 20 to 30 deaths over that period of time. So definitely a significant drop. Yeah, I mean, ages 12 to 13 is what our doctor recommended also for my girls. But I beat him to the punch because I gave the girls HPV shots at age six because I, well, I didn't want him to get sexually involved. at the age of seven or eight. By the way, that is a horrible thing to say about my daughters. I just want to point that out. And the good news is they don't listen to this show because they hate me. You've been listening to the Bill Handel's show. Catch my show Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and anytime on demand on the Iheart radio app. Hey guys, it's Ryan.
