So you have a suspect who's dead. You have two IMPD officers injured. The story at WIBC.com. Tony Katz 93 WIBC. Good morning. Responding to a call on the city's east side. According to IMPD, called to the 8,000 block feast 37. This is about 10.30 p.m. 911 caller reported there was an ongoing disturbance in the area, man with gun. IMPD arrives. That guy starts shooting. Two officers were hit.

One went to a hospital by a patrol car, another one, via medics, stable condition. I am PD chief, who you just heard earlier on the top of the hour news, not identifying the officers, describing them as department veterans. Now, I still don't have what... The full story is, right? This guy shoots three officers returned fire. Suspect was hit by the gunfire, sent to a local hospital, died from his injuries. Fox 59 had a photo of the gun. 9mm of some kind. That's when I see it, but I'll let them tell me what's what. I can't answer what happened here. I can't answer what this guy was doing. None of it. I know that there are going to be some people who want to quite magically make the claim that this is police doing everything wrong. I know that's going to come, but I'm going to dismiss those people as they should rightly be dismissed. But rather ask, what would the social worker have done in this case? For all the people who want to tell us that the answer is we don't need police for everything. Oh my gosh, you're always sending the cops. What we need are social workers and we need mental health professionals to go and help these people. Tell me how that would have worked. The answer is we need mental health professionals before it gets to this moment. And the other answer is, We need to stop thinking that the answer to everything is mental health professionals. Maybe if culturally, and I'm talking about a belief in violence, I'm talking about a belief that you're allowed to take actions out on other people because you feel a certain way. If we would curtail that, like for example, not supporting the murderer of Brian Thompson, the United Healthcare CEO, maybe these things wouldn't happen. And Tony... You have no idea what happened here. Correct. Everything I just said happens to be true, but it may not have anything to do with what happened here. May not have anything to do with it at all. Correct. We're getting into the what-ifs. I shouldn't get into the what-ifs. I should, however, ask the question, tell me what the social worker, the mental health professional was going to do in this case. Tell me how that would have ended.

If we're only going to discuss that, which I think is an acceptable subject in this case, let us realize that that is a terrible idea. Instead of police, a reason to defund police, you could just send a social worker and everything will be fine. Just want us to be clear that that's a terrible idea, brought forward by people who are really being terrible. You can't answer these things with pleasantries because you're dealing with people who have no capacity to be pleasant. I didn't say you can't have de-escalation tactics and all sorts of things. I didn't say people couldn't ride along. But replacement? I don't know how many more times you're going to have to see this in order to understand this. But once we discuss that that thing doesn't work, I do like to get into how did we get to this place? Some people are just mentally ill, some people are just violence, and some people are conditioned to the violence. There are things as a society we can do. No, I don't know what led to this. I'm going to start with a very easy to digest statement that also has the pleasure of being completely accurate. There are very few people in the world who are experts in Mali, their military, and the fighting that's going on there. I know this because finding it on a map for a lot of people would be outrageously difficult. Tony Katz 93 WIBC. Good morning. Good to be with you. Why then is the Washington Post reporting that President Trump is considering military action in Mali? Okay. So I had to do a little bit of digging to get an understanding. What we're talking about here is a country that is run by its military. This happened in 2021. This military called the Janim, J-N-I-M. Now, I still have not heard whether it's pronounced J-N-I-M or is it J-N-I-M. I think it's pronounced Janim.

They are an al-Qaeda-linked jihadist group. They are connected to other type groups, separatist groups. They have been waging war for a while now. What has come next from this? is conversations about how this is growing and how this is building, referring to this as terrorist activity. The State Department is saying that it, quote, unequivocally condemns the terrorist activities in Mali, and they are committed to promoting regional ownership and cooperation against terrorist threats. Now, what gets even weirder, if I understand this right, that the counter to these terrorists have included Russians. including the Wagner Group, they don't call it the Wagner Group, I think they refer to it as the Wagner Group, which is this group of radicals where Vladimir Putin had the leader killed a few years back, has been on the side of Mali against the terrorists. When I tell you that I'm just starting to scratch the surface on the learning here, Everybody's going to claim an expertise. Everybody ran to AI and is reading something to you and is like, oh, here's what's happening. Oh my gosh. Molly, by the way, northwestern part of Africa in case you're looking on that. So now there is a conversation about whether or not there will be some level of U.S. involvement. And that's the report from the Washington Post. Off the cuff? What in the world? Wanting to dig a little deeper? I don't know what the story here is. One could argue having all the information I just gave you. Quite literally, that's it. That if you consider the fact that Africa is in play, and certainly a continent that has been well ignored. And you take a look at where China has made moves to really take land and force nations into deals they're not interested in. If you take a look at trying to thwart the growing threat of Islamic terrorism, there could be reasons, geopolitical reasons, to provide some support or in some involvement. I have no idea if that's the right move or not. I'm learning this just like you are. I'm bringing you information as I get it, trying to break it down the best I can. I hope to have a rudimentary working knowledge of this a week from now, and we'll see where this goes. I want everybody to be aware of what's going on. And yes, I know. No, it's odd to hear somebody say, I'm not quite sure what this is all about on radio or in the influencer world, but it still matters. And that brings us to a conversation I had yesterday with Major Mike Lyons, a military analyst, U.S. Army retired, where I asked him about what we're seeing with now, what is it, 12 days of airstrikes by the United States on Iran?

What is it that we're looking at? What I posited yesterday was the only thing I can come to is that this seems to be, you know, softening things up for ground invasion. I wasn't 100% sure. That's what it looks like. So I asked Major Lyons. Do you agree? Is that what we're doing? No, Tony, I don't. I think that on the surface, strategy is not bombing. It's not just doing what we're doing 11 straight days. The strategy is a combination of the attacks. Plus the snapback sanctions that have taken place. The Chinese now have been put back in the box that oil is not being moved. And then lastly, the naval blockade. So when you combine all those things together, that's the pressure that it's going to take in order to get the regime to come back to the table. I mean, look, this is going to end at some point. We have to figure out, you know, short of them, I'm completely imploding and no one, you know, no last man standing. There's going to be an agreement. So that's kind of where that my essay speaks to. peace speaks to, but getting back. The strategy, I think, is pretty sound. And the problem is the patience that we're going to have to make because there are a lot of military targets. And we're also now starting to hit some of the infrastructure. We're hitting some of the dual-use infrastructure. And we're also seeing the Iranians still having capability. Unfortunately, we lost two service members over the weekend as they can't fire at scale, but they can continue to. make, you know, wreak havoc with our air defense systems, likely getting help from the Chinese. But I think this plan is solid. I think we just have to have patience. And let's, let's regroup in a couple of weeks. Maybe it's going to take a month. But to get rid of all of these targets along the coastline, 650 miles is a military operation that's easily achievable. So let me share it with everybody. As we spoke before, we went live there. You referred to this, and I'm not trying to put words in your mouth. I want to make sure I understand you, as you would say at Major, talking to Major Mike Lyons, retired United States Army, military analyst. This is part of a siege mentality. And in the end, we are engaged in siege warfare. So two parts. First, explain what is, and to the extent the history of siege warfare. And then what it is that you're seeing from the administration and from Pete Hegseth and the Defense Department. Right. So siege warfare for the military historians out there, we'll think about Vicksburg. We'll think about areas where one army has surrounded another army in such a manner that they really can't move. Back then, it was this term U.S. grant used of unconditional surrender. That's really where it comes from, civil wars, when that first was brought up. And siege warfare has been used by the Romans, and it goes back. And so what's happening right now, like anybody that's telling you that Iran is getting stronger, getting attacked on a nightly basis is just completely delusional. Because what's happening is a siege. Now, the siege is coming from the air. There's no ground troops. There's no other things. And we're closing off other aspects. But they are getting weaker by the day and losing revenue opportunities by the day. And from our perspective, again, the way siege works is that eventually the enemy will capitulate into your terms. I think Epic Fury just ended too soon. 37 days wasn't enough.

We've really only started the last 11 days. You know, it's likely that a siege could take months. It could take a lot longer. It happened in World War II, the siege of Stalingrad. I mean, you know, again, from a military perspective, it's a mission that is clear. And that's why the military is, you know, I think being very successful at it right now. Very, very odd. Now, we've reached out to all the candidates. Who have we heard back from, producer Carl? Uh, we've heard back from Engling. We've, we've heard back from Ballard's people, and we also heard back from, uh, the, uh, Lori. Lori Schillings, the, uh, libertarian. Yes, we just haven't booked the times yet. Okay. That we're working on that, because we don't know if we're going to do it debate style, if we're going to do it long form style. That's what I think we're working on right now, right? Correct. Right? This originally started with, we would do the debate we'd be thrilled to overjoy, too. I know they are doing one over there in Fissures. I think that's coming. They might be doing some in other places. I'm more than happy with the long form, right? It may just be the way to put this together. And I'm very, very fine with that. So we haven't heard back from Bobai's people. No, sir. Okay. When's the last time we reached out? Monday. My point. Okay. Oh, so we're staying on this. And okay, just stay on it. That's all we can do. All we can do. If they don't respond, they don't want to talk, it's sadly something that we often get used to, like, for example, with the mayor of Indianapolis. But we're going to keep trying. It's a big, big race, the Secretary of State race. There's a lot at stake. Again, I will say that I don't mind somebody running. I don't mind somebody gathering the signatures and getting on the ballot. I do wonder if Diego had the nominee, if Greg Ballard would have had all the signatures. I'm sorry, I do. I don't know. I mean, it's what a horrible thing to say. But you can't deny that the situation changes.

I have no reason to think that the Secretary of State's office isn't on the up and up when it comes to counting signatures. A little part in the back of my head is like, I wonder what would have, but that's a speculative thing. Here we are now. I don't mind him running. Why are Republicans angry? I thought Greg Bauer was a Republican. Why didn't he just run for the Republican nomination? Well, there's a real thirst for a third party. Is there a real thirst for a third party? And is it just this? Is there a real thirst for a third party all the way around? Wasn't that the libertarians? What is there a real thirst for? There's a real anger at whom? Diego Morales isn't running and good. So where is the real anger? That people signed a petition to get you on the ballot with all due respect. I'm not sure if they remember what they signed. I don't mind that you did it. I think it's weird that you think that there's a groundswell for you, that there is this spoiler capability. I think that it's still an outrageous long shot. And I don't know, and I would have no way of being able to prove that this is going to have a real serious effect on the race. Not at all. Not in any way. Well, see, he's going to pull votes from Max Inling, the Republican. If this is about being bothered by the establishment, it would pull votes from Republicans and Democrats alike. And nothing says, I want to stick it to the establishment by voting for the two-time mayor of Indianapolis. I think people want things to be true. It doesn't make them true. I look forward to hearing some of the conversations and some of the thoughts about the race, the job of the Secretary of the State in a whole series of places. Of course, elections being near top of the list. And I'm curious about coattails. How does this affect some other races? Yes, it's the top of the ticket race in the midterm. And the answer is, I don't know, how close is the beer garden? That is the answer to whether or not Nigel will milk a bowl. I will say, and I will give up nothing on this, I got a text about an event. Is your schedule free because here's an idea. And I said, this is the most devious and maniacal thing anybody could ever suggest doing. And I'm totally in. So I don't know if it's going to happen. I don't know. That is all the T's you're going to get. But if it does, I'm going to say two things. While I've had ideas like this, I always cited on the side of discretion. Be like, we shouldn't do that. This is going to blow the doors off of it. Whatever the ticket price is, you will pay it. And you will tell your grandchildren about the day it happened. That's it. That's where I'm leaving it. It's done. It's finished. It's complete. The Secret Service was speaking yesterday about the White House correspondence dinner, which is scheduled to take place this weekend. and the threats that are coming in. As reported, agents have opened approximately 10,000 protective intelligence cases since January. The highest numbers in their 24-year career of the Secret Service director, Sean Curran.

They have carried out nearly 10 times as many mental health-related interventions involving those making threats, according to CBS News. And there is a real concern about the White House correspondent's dinner and its security. Concerns about security is, of course, the plan, isn't it? Scream that you're going to engage in violence. Scream that you're going to engage this way, that you're going to protest. Sure you are. If you call President Trump a threat to democracy, if you call for a lone wolf as places like MSNBC now, MS now, and CNN and others have done for a decade, you are going to see violence like you saw in Butler, Pennsylvania, like you have seen in other places. It's they, they want this. When Zohran Mamdani, the Islamist mayor of New York, oh. Well, I'm not supposed to say it. Let somebody else be offended. Facts or facts. Deal with that. Deal with it. When the Islamist mayor, the anti-American zealot, mayor of New York, Zarnemondani, says that I'm sorry I can't arrest Benjamin Netanyahu. But everyone should get out there and protest. There should be protest against Benjamin Netanyahu. He's calling for violence. Of course he is. And when it occurs, let's hope it doesn't, because why would I want it? But when it does, when anybody gets hurt, when any business gets destroyed, it will all be on Benjamin Netanyahu's hands. Every last bit of it will be on Zohran Mamdani's hands. He put himself out there. He said, yep, this is on me. Right here. Zohran Mamdani, blame me. He's doing that. Of course the White House correspondence dinner should go on. Of course you have to go live your life. Getting you to be afraid and not show up is part of the plan. That's the objective. By the way, you take a look at places and areas where you have seen a lot of mass migration, unfettered mass migration, and you take a look at the streets at night. You know what you don't see, women? They don't walk the street tonight anymore. It's too scary. It's too frightening. It's too dangerous. I'll be offended all you want. Call me any name you want. You can actually go look at the video. I'm engaged in facts. I'm sorry if that offends. You take a look at what Antifa has done here in the United States. You're not allowed to drive down this street. In Indianapolis, they pulled guns on people trying to drive down the street. You pull a gun on somebody and I'm in my car. Odds are you're getting run over. Who cares about whether or not you can walk again? I had to go home to my family safe and you pulled a gun on me while I'm driving down the street. You think you own the roads. No. Absolutely not. That's not the way it works. But they did it because they believe they can intimidate. That's the desire. And once they can intimidate, they can subjugate because you'll do anything not to get hurt. You can't live free that way. And this is a large part of what we're dealing with. This is what it is we're seeing. And a society where younger generations think that violence against those who say things you don't like is acceptable. It's damaging and dangerous stuff. Of course it is. Something we have to push back against, which is really gets into conversations of being resilient.

But this on the White House correspondence dinner, it has to go on. They have to do it. You engage the security. You don't let these people win. You don't let fear win. It's the only rational move. Then coming closer to home, the Brownsburg Daycare director got sentenced. This was a story with a series of stories, including there was the one with the school and what some teachers made a child do at the school. That happened in Brownsburg. This is the woman who served as director of the Main Street University for kids. sentenced to 180 days in Hendricks County Jail, 365 days of home of detention, and then probation, pleading guilty to neglect of a dependent and failure to report child abuse. I find myself in some levels of conflict, not with throwing people who abuse children in jail. But in the idea of we have groups out there that are supposed to protect children. We have a whole child protective services. And I wonder whether or not they actually do. Getting things wrong, being more aggressive than one needs to be, putting parents in a place where you've decided they're guilty and they have to prove their innocence. It becomes rather ugly. So when I see a case like this, you know, this is a court of law on them. I'm certainly appreciative if someone is abusing children that they spend all the time in jail. And I don't think six months is enough. You can give me the particulars of the case and say that's fine, et cetera. But I find myself in conflict because this is, when we see a court doing this, you abuse a child, you go to jail, we get it. When we see child protective services or other organizations like that, make some determination and then nothing happened. What happens to them?

Social media posts put out by the Attorney General reads, parents have a right to know exactly what's being taught and displayed in their kids' classroom. This Perry Meridian High School classroom. prominently features multiple examples of woke ideology on its walls. To promote full transparency in how schools educate our children, we've added these images to our eyes on education portal so Hoosiers can see for themselves. And yes, there are, there's a fist, a rainbow fist, Black Lives Matter, love wins, and then one of those signs that reads, love wins, science is real, black lives matter, no human is illegal, love is love, women's rights are human rights, kindness is everything. The Attorney General is correct in this. First, when it comes to flags, the only flag that could be in a classroom is the American flag. If it's a history classroom and you've got the flags of the countries, I can live with that as long as they're actually countries and not anything ideological. No gay pride flags, no trans flags in a classroom. Absolutely not. Ideological flags. Nope. No place for that. Absolutely none. And the punishment should be up to and including firing the teacher. The classroom is not your place to make a stand. It's not your personal soapbox. It is where we take our children to be educated. And if you're not willing to do that, there's no place for you, teacher. It must be shocking to hear that you're just not good enough, but you're not. If you're ideological and not educational, you're not good enough for our kids. You have to go. Nobody cares about your personal feelings. None. It's ideological clap trap. It is about indoctrination. It's again proof that the teachers union has to be ripped asunder, that the parents have to be in charge. And this can't be allowed. No funding. Nothing. The General Assembly should be all over this. We don't allow these things here. Teachers who want to have a personality. Well, I like teachers with personality, but if teachers want to have a personality, they want to share their views. That's what a podcast is for. That's what the soapbox is for on the street corner, not in front of our captive children, which is how they view it. They view the children as theirs. We have so much partisan polarization that the overall number matters a lot. The number with Republicans, actually surprisingly, for Trump, by historic standards, seeing it's only 71% among Republicans. He's usually in the upper 80s. That's a bad sign for Donald Trump in terms of enthusiasm of the base, and we saw that in the earlier numbers you put up about how.

CNN just yesterday shared that the enthusiasm for Trump amongst Republicans is higher at this point than it was for Barack Obama or George Bush. Guys, if you're going to tell the story, tell the full, whole and complete story. I have been following the generic congressional vote, which the Fox News poll has Democrats plus seven. So the last two polls have saw an increase for Democrats. plus five and a plus seven. The four before that, plus three, plus two, plus two, plus three. These last two polls were with registered voters. The polls you need to look at are likely voters. And the last poll that had likely voters was the Harvard Harris poll, July 11th and 12th. And that was 5149 for the Democrats plus two, right? It's one thing to be registered to vote. It's another thing to be likely to go vote. If you want to handle these things and discuss these things, you have to discuss them all. You cannot cherry pick one poll. You should never believe just one poll. That is a nutty thing to do. Democrats should have a built-in advantage. Of course. Without question, it is a midterm. The party not in power gains seats.
