The death toll in Columbia climbs to over 100, 175,000 visas have been revoked from foreign nationals, and the WNBA racks up controversies following a flagrant foul against Sophie Cunningham. I'm Daily Wire Executive Editor John Bickley with Georgia Howe. It's Tuesday, August 11th. This is Eveningwire. The death toll in Colombia continues to climb after the country's western region was struck by a 7.4 magnitude earthquake on Monday morning. Colombia's president said that at least 111 people died in the quake and dozens more are being treated. Many more victims are expected as emergency crews try to save those trapped in the rubble and assess the full extent of the damage. Colombia's president added that at least 1,500 homes, 18 health centers, and 52 schools were damaged. According to the Colombian geological survey, the quake was felt in several other countries as well, including Panama and Venezuela, which itself is recovering from two major earthquakes that hit the country weeks ago. A Syrian court has sentenced the former strongman Bashar al-Assad to death more than a year and a half after he fled his palace for Russia. Daily Wire contributor Tim Pierce has more. Bashar al-Assad's regime crumbled after rebels and terrorists swept over the country in less than two weeks at the end of 2024. Today, a Syrian criminal court handed the death penalty to Bashar al-Assad and his brother for crimes committed from 2011 to the end of the ex-president's rule. The court also sentenced Bashar al-Assad's cousin, who is imprisoned in Syria to death as well. During the final years of the Bashar al-Assad regime, Syrian forces carried out brutal attacks against rebels, including the use of chemical weapons that killed scores of civilians. Bashar al-Assad lives in Moscow in exile now since fleeing rebel forces. President Trump may have engaged in some subtle misdirection while he departed Syria last month because of an assassination threat. The president was photographed and seen boarding Air Force 1 as usual to leave Ankara, but afterward he was secretly moved via an airport catering truck to an Air Force C-32A plane and at that point took off after Air Force 1. The extraordinary precaution was taken over concerns that Iran may attempt to kill the president. The White House has not confirmed the report. Instead, in a statement to the Daily Wire, the White House spokesperson touted the safety features of a presidential jet. President Trump is ordering major changes to the nation's childhood vaccine recommendations. Daily Wire Associate producer Brooke Morgato has the latest. The president has directed federal agencies to narrow the number of diseases covered by routine shots.

and spread vaccinations across more appointments. The new plan would recommend vaccines for 11 diseases for all children, down from 18, while moving shots for illnesses, including hepatitis and flu, into categories for higher risk children or decisions made between parents and doctors. Trump also wants to split the combined measles, mumps, and rebella vaccination into separate shots, saying that while the change would mean more trips to the doctor, it could have a, quote, huge impact on autism. Critics, including Republican Senator Bill Cassidy, argue the changes lack scientific support, with Bill Cassidy saying, quote, vaccines are overwhelmingly safe. Vaccines are effective, vaccines do not cause autism, end quote. Newly released text messages are putting Dr. Anthony Fauci's COVID-19 vaccine guidelines under fresh scrutiny. with Republican Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas calling for a special counsel to investigate whether Anthony Fauci privately acknowledged risks he later downplayed publicly. The messages show Anthony Fauci raising concerns in January of 2021 that fever and other immune reactions after a second MRNA vaccine dose could theoretically contribute to first trimester miscarriages among pregnant women. Just weeks later, Anthony Fauci publicly said there were no pregnancy-related red flags associated with the vaccines. Marshall says a special counsel could subpoena witnesses conduct an independent investigation and potentially pursue criminal charges while also suggesting a commission modeled after the 9-11 commission as another option.

Daily Wire Immigration reporter Jenny Tehr has more. Officials cited dynamic continuous vetting by the State Department and law enforcement encounters involving alleged criminal activity, fraud, or threats to American safety. They highlighted leading drivers for the cancellations, including drug crimes, assault, DUI, and theft alongside foreign policy grounds targeting individuals who celebrated political violence or maintained ties to adversarial regimes. Although administration leaders framed the heightened enforcement as an essential effort to protect public safety and curtail practices like birth tourism, immigration attorneys expressed concerns that official strip documents over minor infractions or charges that never cleared the judicial process. An American Airlines flight departing Myrtle Beach was forced to make an emergency landing after apparently hitting a flock of birds shortly after takeoff.

There were 172 passengers aboard and several captured video showing flames shooting from the Boeing 737 as the crew reported an engine problem and issued a May Day call. The plane landed safely about 36 minutes after departure with American Airlines saying no one was injured while the aircraft was taken out of service for inspection. The FAA confirmed the crew reported a bird strike and said it will investigate while airport personnel reported finding a, quote, significant number of birds on the runway. The WNBA is being accused of having a double standard for black players when it comes to rules for speech. That's so criminal host Lyndon Blake has the story. It's been more than two days since Chicago Sky Guard DeJane Carrington posted, quote, white privilege at Indiana fever on social media after being ejected for a flagrant foul against Sophie Cunningham. The WMBA has thus far been silent about that post. This is in stark contrast to the league's swift action against a white coach for a statement that wasn't intended to have any racial context, but it was interpreted as offensive. Brandello, who is Australian, says the phrase is Australian sports slang for a player who seems to get favorable treatment from the refs. And an Arkansas high schooler was met with shocking surprise inside his helmet during football practice. Something was moving around his head. The student removed his helmet to discover a venomous cotton-mouth snake nestled between the padding. Miraculously, the snake had remained hidden inside the helmet just above the player's head for more than an hour. The team's athletic director called on animal services who identified the snake, removed it, and left with a great story.
