Central Pa. to see partial solar eclipse Aug. 12. Here's what you need to know

August 12th, Central Pennsylvanians will be able to see a partial solar eclipse. The moon will block a sliver of the sun. For Philadelphia, the moon will start passing in front of it at 111. Maximum eclipse, only covering about 7% of the sun, will be at 154. It is not safe to look at the sun without proper protection during an eclipse. Experts recommend eclipse glasses to block dangerous bright light. If it's too late for you to get them, try holding a colander under the sunlight. Each hole will project the eclipse. There are other crafty ideas also, like putting a hole through a piece of paper or making a projector with a cardboard box, foil, and paper.
