We check in with Tom Garrett, member of the House of Delegates, former member of the House of Representatives. We go for Capitol Square Insider Report. So we bring him on, and you never know what he's going to tell us about what's going on Capitol Square, joining us right now on News Radio WRVA. Hello, sir. Yes, here's the breaking news. Abigail Spanberger is looking for a new scheduler. Yeah, I saw this story. If you guys missed it, she went out and made an appearance, and everybody was there. Where did she go? She went down to the Southwest Virginia Gailax, specifically the old Fiddler's convention. Then she put on her best condescending second grade teacher voice. Like, okay, class, you're in for a great treat today. This wonderful cultural music, and just, I mean, relentlessly booed off the stage. It was like nothing I've ever seen before. That's not hyperbole. And just who on earth? I thought that was a good idea, right? She has literally lied repeatedly to people south of the Acoquan River. Lying to Rova, rest of Virginia, in favor of Nova, northern Virginia, again and again and again. And then she goes, and Rich, the exclamation point was her own social media where she actually filmed, you can't make this stuff up, a post in the car leaving, which was like, we just left the Fiddler's convention, Gaylecks, and what a wonderful reception, what a great place. And I'm like, you just... Just like her default mode is lie. And, yeah, it was something to behold. Would you expect anything different? It's terrifying to me because I don't know, and again, I take political stance and people, like, it's the Second Amendment and pro-life stances that I take. I've had intelligent consultants say, stop, just vote right on those issues because your base wants you to vote right, but if you talk too much about them, you become the gun guy or the pro-life guy, and those are going to lose you competitive elections. Well, here's a newsflash. I don't care. Right. I'm going to do what I think is right consistent with what I said my values are, because when I said my values, I was actually telling the truth. She is literally, like, we care about affordability, but then foisted an environmental agenda on us. The straight line led to an 11 to 13% increase in your monthly power bill on July 1st, right? By the way, people are starting to get their power bills and freaking out. They read it in the newspaper. They didn't put two and two together. Reggie Dominion raises our bills. People are now getting that power bill. Like, wait a minute. It's a cap and trade carbon tax that we just voted to have that's paid by the consumer. And they've created a marketplace. I'm not making this up.
to trade for carbon credits where the ultra wealthy, right, guys like Tom Steyer and Jeff Bezos, can speculate in carbon credits so that your power bill goes up when the temperature goes up or down. And they profit on it. They've gotten working people to capitalize the market. Hold on for a second. Explain to us what this means because we've done it before, but now that you actually see your power bill, folks. We went back into Reggie, the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which created cap and trade. And the Commonwealth of Virginia had left it under Glenn Youngkin. She jumps back into it immediately. Explain what cap and trade means. And by the way, it's in this greenhouse gas initiative. Dominion doesn't eat the cost of this. They are allowed to pass it along to the consumers. Go ahead. Well, there's really, they don't have a choice, right? Like, I mean, I don't think Dominion needs to be making obscene profits, but if they don't make any profits, then the lights don't come on when you flip the switch. There are a for-profit entity who's tasked with delivering a good and service in a very unique marketplace because we don't have five different power lines coming into our house and we get to choose who our provider is. So that's a government-created sort of pseudo-monopoly. But what cap-and-trade does is it says carbon emissions bad. So in order to discourage carbon emissions, we're going to tax against carbon creation, the theory being that will create more carbon neutral or carbon-free power generation, which works fine if you totally ignore the fact that... They use a lot of carbon to make this solar and wind, et cetera, and ship them, et cetera, and that all the profits are off short. So we're penalizing people for using electricity because it treats carbon. We're penalizing people for using cheap electricity in favor of expensive electricity with a theoretical abstract being that the temperature changes based on what mankind does, not based on what the planet does. And that totally ignores. The short-term history of the planet Earth, the short-term history of a planet that's millions of years old, going back like 10,000 years when the Sahara Desert was blooming in green, and the ocean levels were 300 feet lower than they are right now, and you have cave paintings that are now 250 feet below water in the Mediterranean, right? Because people walked into the caves and painted. I'm suggesting that the climate has changed for years before. Let's get back to why our bills are higher. So what happens? Our bills are they've made affordable energy production, specifically coal and gas production, expensive artificially, to encourage us to buy Chinese-made solar panels. So they've raised our prices to try to encourage us to use less electricity. They take the money they make, and they put it into capitalizing a marketplace, and then wealthy people buy carbon credits with Dominion then has to buy, or APCO, or any power generator.
when they exceed their limit of allowed carbon production when making electricity. So we've literally created a stock exchange, if you will, for carbon credits, and we capitalized it using working-class people's money, but the only folks with enough money to invest in it are billionaires. Okay, so let me put this in plain English. She jumped us back into Reggie. And Reggie, it says, hey, Dominion Energy, you can only go to this level. And if you go past that, you need to buy carbon credits in order to produce enough electricity for this entire Commonwealth. Those credits are a commodity that are created by Reggie that we jump back into. They say, okay, we're going to put these credits out for bid and put them up on the marketplace and people can bid for them. People come in and buy them. And Tom Steyer and Jeff Bezos, by low and so high. Wait, wait a second. I'm going to get there. So this commodity that we've decided to join into, it's completely made up out of thin air. It's not like I'm buying wheat futures of this future. It's only made up because we artificially put a limit on how much energy they could produce before we say, wait a minute, you're killing the environment. You want to go over that. You have to go buy these credits. So. These credits are put in this commodity place. They're put out for people to bid and buy. And again, I can't buy them. You can't buy them. We don't have enough money to buy these. So the Tom Steyer in the world buy them. Very wealthy people buy them, and then they get to sell it back to Dominion for whatever they feel like charging them. And if Dominion's really in trouble because it's 100 degrees and it is sticky and everybody has the air conditioning going and we're all using more electricity, the Dominion energy desperately needs these. Tom Steyer or some of these other profiteers can sell this back to us for whatever we want and we're the ones who end up paying for these. Right. And so they've essentially taken money from the school teacher, the auto mechanic, the cop, and the retiree to give to Tom Steyer and Jeff Bezos so they can shame us for not caring about the climate. I mean, it's, and I'm not making this. No, I know you're not. And we've talked about it, but I just want everybody to understand. His whole business model is to act like he's green, and the only green he's really concerned with is that which he's creating by putting it in his pocket, right? Him being the governor of California is like letting the Fox Guard the henhouse. Okay, so here's... Oh, no, he's got these environmental credits for his farms and stuff yet because he created the market. Well, okay, so here's... I'll throw this out of you because we just got a text message. I think this is very interesting from Tom and Glenn Allen. He goes, the Democrats are running ads right now. They're running here in Richmond saying the reason why our utility bills are going up because Rob Whitman and Republicans voted against green energy. The Republicans need to get the messaging straight, and this is what Tom and Glenn Allen is saying, to push back against this because we, I know right now my energy bill, I don't even want to see what my energy bill is going to be because I'm going to have to pay into Reggie.
It's such an... Look, don't be surprised when the liar lies to you, right? Whatever they accuse you of doing is probably what they're doing. Right. I just drove through... Yeah, and gaslighting, right? It's the abuser saying, well, I only hit you because, right? And somehow it's your fault. Or I think what's the worst thing that Tom Garrett can do? Well, if... I know what I'm capable of doing, and I know Tom Garrett is a horrible... awful, rotten human beings. So if I'm able to take it to an eight, then I know Tom Garrett can take it to a 20 because I hate him so much and I'll foist my worst possible dreams upon him because in my fantasy world, you're much more evil than I am because I care about the environment. Right. And ironically, I literally can't think of a single person I hate. I got better stuff to do with my time. But yes, the hateful people do do that. So it's, but look, let's get back to Abigail Spanberger and Gaylax because I think I can tie this together. Okay, go ahead. She gets booed off the stage at a part of Virginia that clearly doesn't like her. I would argue because she lied to them again and again and again. And that's really cool and funny and entertaining, but here's the punchline. Gaylax showed up at 64% in the last gubernatorial election. So a region of the state where she got outvoted three, four to one. if you take the surrounding areas, left the third of its votes at home. And then if you go to the April 23rd, or I'm sorry, 21st redistricting power grab, where they were to silence the voices of all of Rova, rest of Virginia, in favor of Nova, northern Virginia, well, 45% turnout for that one. So the joke's on us, right? I mean, she's done this. She got booed because people don't like her. They don't like her because she lied to them, but they didn't do anything to stop the lies when they had the chance at the ballot box. And it's the same thing with Reggie and Cap and Trade and all these things. You know, take the time and form yourself and freaking tell your friends to vote because we have the votes, the power, the voice, et cetera. And the only way we don't benefit from that freedom we were given is if we choose not to use it. And that's what I keep saying. But I think we've been told our votes don't count. Our voices don't count. We were silenced. I'm telling you your vote freaking counts, Herrera. Well, that's why why do you think I get up every morning? Honestly. That's why I get up every morning to do this. I know me on Tuesdays you get up because you know you get to talk to me. Well, that, yeah, well, I get up extra early for that and got to get prepared for this. But that's why I get up every morning because our voices do count. And I've been told for the last seven, eight, actually I've been told longer than that, hey, your voice doesn't count shut up. No, I'm not going to shut up and nor should the people. Well, it's even worse, right? I mean, I'm going to go there because here you are a black or brown person, right? And they've tried to discourage you from contemplating any alternative other than that, which you're told to think, because don't you know, right? And it's so horrible, right? I don't care. Like, you skin us and hang us upside down and we all look the same. Every single person. has a voice by design in this country. And your responsibility as a citizen in a free society. And Rich, I know I'm preaching to the choir because you are my brother, is to get out and do the best he can with what you be given without regard. And resentment and jealousy and covetousness, it's not only sinful, but just from a human perspective never leads to happiness. So get out, hit the ball as hard as you can. And if you strike out, get back in the batters box the next time your number's called. Just.
