Is She in Trouble?

140 segmentsMonday morning. It's right here and it's right now and here we go. Thank you so much for being here with us. We call this Nebraska's morning news. We convened Jim Rose, Craig Evans. I am Scott Voorhees. And for I don't know how many times now it's been, the scoreboard is Lucy Chapman has brought in snacks, in this case homemade cinnamon rolls. And once again, Lucy, all I brought you in return is heartache and grief. and a hearty good morning. I do get my fill of that. Yeah. Thank you for the cinnamon rolls. Good comeback. I'm very excited to have a cinnamon roll. I don't know. Don't get her hope so. I'm very excited. Lucy, Jim and I are not the arbitrators of this story that this story deserves because we both saw this and had the same thought. So if you need to step in here and be the voice of reason, I highly encourage you to do so. Well, I might have the same thought. Saturday afternoon, I'm down in Manhattan, Kansas. We were taking the girl child back to college. She goes to K-State, where she now lives in a sorority house. And I didn't know this, and I guess this is pretty common anymore. In this sorority house, they have Army barrack-style housing. I mean, they all have their own room with their closet and drawers and everything. But when they go to sleep, it's army barracks. It's just a couple of big rooms with bunk beds in there. Co-ed? No, not co-ed. It's a sorority house. Okay, okay. This isn't the WNBA. It's a co-ed dorm. Annis Cantor isn't a member of this sorority, so no, it's just all open-style bunk bed army barracks. I asked my daughter yesterday morning and said, how'd the sleeping go last night, sweetie pie? And she goes, those beds are real squeaky. So it's a... It's weird. You know, everyone, because everyone's trying to be really quiet. Everyone's trying to be real quiet so everyone can sleep. And these girls, they just met each other that day, many of them. And so I said, you'll get used to it before too long. It'll be fine. But I'm down in Manhattan, Kansas, and I get a call from Terry Leahy. He was coming in here to do storm coverage. Storm coverage. And we knew that there was a possibility on Saturday evening as something popping up, but suddenly on Saturday afternoon, Cub, boom, did these things come through there. And it didn't just catch the KFAB news team by surprise. Thankfully, these were strong storms, not severe storms. There's a delineation there, but it caught people by surprise who were out there in the Elkhorn River tubing. and they had to contact the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Waterloo Fire and Rescue was out there, and deputies received a call that someone was drowning. They had to run out there, and they were able to get the guy back on the tube and back to shore. He was taken to the hospital with critical injuries, and we hope that that guy is going to be okay. Jim and I both saw that story and thought, how do you...
drown or fear drowning on the Elkhorn River. Well, if there's a bunch of water all of a sudden, that is a very deep channel. Where? On the Elkhorn? Yeah, when I drive over the Elkhorn River on Maple and on Highway 6, you can see the dirt and the sandbars. on the Elkhorn River. Now, maybe there are spots where it's deeper, but... And this was over by Harrison, so maybe that's the deep part of the Elkhorn River. I don't know. When I lived in Waterloo, it had a deep channel. Okay. It's not that wide, and it's not that deep. So I was kind of thinking the same thing. Just stand up and just walk... Get up, walk to the shore. I'm guessing... And now I don't mean to pile on this person. I don't know this guy's story or what the deal is. I do know how some of these tubing excursions go. And I would not be surprised to learn that alcohol was involved. Now, if that's the case, you could drown in a bottle cap. If you're just passed out... Sure. But I don't know what the heck this was all about. But I mean, I'm guessing there were a lot of, because anytime I see people out there tubing, I see a lot of people out there. Yeah. So no one else was available to run in there and help and do something for the guy. We did have, this is Saturday. Apparently this was Sunday. At least the report I read was that it happened at 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon. No, the tubing, that was Saturday. Okay. Well, then the. The report I read was incorrect. I thought it was Saturday because it talked about a big rainstorm. And yeah, we did have a very short and very heavy rainstorm, you know, Saturday afternoon. We got two inches of rain out of my house in Valley. Okay. So. This was puzzling to me because, yeah, I mean, I look over that river when I'm driving across it, and there's a whole bunch of people out there. They're on tubes, and they're going down the river. It's not a clean river. So going under that water means you're also probably getting some dirt in your teeth. But I'm glad the guy's okay. I hope he's going to be okay. And it's true that, you know, and I was talking to. some guys from the NRD a couple of years ago. And it's true if there's a big rainstorm like upriver, like let's say in Columbus or Norfolk or whatever, and then it rolls down and suddenly you go from... four or five inches of water to two, three feet of water. Yeah, you go from a quiet little tubing experience to whitewater rafing. Raging river rafting. So I hope the guy's okay. But yeah, it seems to me that there might have been a couple of beers involved. I would not be surprised to learn that. I don't know in this instance. Have either of you guys ever done tubing?
I've gone down the, I've gone down the Niabrera River in a canoe. Have you? And the Kalamaz River, too. Funplex. Lucy's done the white water experience. We ever had a drowning at Funplex? I don't know. I hope not. I've never done it. It always kind of looks fun, but then there are a couple of things. Number one, sitting there for a long period of time all day and just drinking all day in the heat and in direct sunlight with this skin. I don't know that I could do that. It looks like fun for a little bit. Just rub some mud on you. I have done whitewater rafting. That was one of the greatest days on my life. That was so much fun. Yeah, I could. I could cover myself in mud like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Predator. I'm right here, do it, kill me, do it now. You know, I could do that. Get to the chop ball. Yeah. Like, we're going to Douglas County Sheriff's Office. There's a guy out here at a tube that won't stop badly impersonating Arnold Schwarzenegger. I'm right here, do it. Another thing about the tubing experience and camping and all that stuff here, I am definitely not opposed to it. I am so lucky that as a child and as a... As a guy who spent some of his misspent youth in my teens and 20s, I spent plenty of time camping outside, doing all that goofy stuff. I think I'm just too old for it anymore. Plus, you can't read the news and then want to go outside. One headline today said, ticks are winning. Apparently you go outside and you're just covered in ticks all the time. And then there's this story about a woman in Kansas. who says here was at Cheney Lake. I don't know where Cheney Lake is in Kansas. I suppose I could look it up, but she was at a campfire with her family, and all of a sudden she was like, ow, ow, ow, and she looks down, and there were dozens of spiders that suddenly decided to convene on her legs and start biting her. And after months of medical treatment, She needs a liver transplant. Yeah, I'd be drinking too, but I don't think that's the reason for the liver transplant. Horrifying stuff here. So I think what I'm trying to say is between the pop-up thunderstorm that almost caused a guy to drown in a tubing experience on the Elkhorn River and the fact that there's ticks probably with Lyme disease all over the place and spiders might get you. Never go outside. It's just too dangerous. This is not helping the obesity problem. You can walk around your house. Okay. And then there's probably spiders in there, too. Those stories that say that you swallow spiders when you sleep. The average person swallows like four spiders a year. No, no, the average person does not swallow four spiders. That means that half of them are swallowing more and half of them are swallowing less. There's probably someone throwing off the curve on that one, but I don't know. I know. I woke up this morning, not feeling all that hungry. Yeah. The 1110 KFAB certified transmission sports brief now. Here is Jim Rose. Okay, Scott. Good morning, everybody. The mowers are rev.
up and ready to take after the rough at Indian Creek so the use and eyes can play a course suited to our skill level. Then again, looking at the numbers from the Pinnacle Bank Classic, maybe they need to make the course a little tougher. The winner, Frankie Harris, shot 22 under. He won a two-hole playoff against Alastair Docherty. He shot 22 under two. We were supposed to hear from Frankie there, but that's okay. Aris is back night. No, you said you wanted Roger. Well, we'll get to Roger in a minute, but I was hoping for Frankie. All right, we can do that. Here we go. Feels incredible, man. This is a feeling that I've been chasing for a long time. And honestly, I've never felt this way before about a tournament victory. Honestly, just the amount of support I've gotten over the last week. I've been out here has been incredible. And this is something I'll never forget for the rest of my life. Harris's back nine was like video golf, a 59, which included a 27 on the back nine. I should say his Sunday round was like video golf. A 59, which included a 27 on the back nine. That 27 included six birdies and an eagle. Now, it was soft from the rain, and they allowed you to pick up the ball, clean it, and then place it back on the ground, ensuring a good lie. But still, golf is not supposed to be about darts. Well, now we know why Roger Craig didn't do any interviews and didn't participate in the news conference before his induction into the NFL Hall of Fame. He has vascular dementia. The changes were gradual. At first, they were easy to dismiss as normal aging. Over time, my family noticed it too. And ultimately, let us to seek answers from my doctor. That was his pre-recorded, edited acceptance speech. They played on the big screens. It is clear his concussions caused this. Made the wonderful celebration for Roger Bittersweet. We know more today about brain health than when I played. And I hope sharing my story. encourages people to pay attention to their health and seek help when something doesn't feel right. Safety protocols have made the sports safer, but football is still very dangerous. Meanwhile, back down at Husker football, what we saw, what we all saw apparently was real. Our guys were too fat. From the quarterback to the offensive line, big offseason weight training change. Coach Matt Ruhl says it's working. At the same time, while they added those 667 pounds of lean mass, they lost 188 pounds as a team of fat. This will be the biggest and leanest team we've had. Great job by the players in the off season. They've been great in the weight room, great and training table, great in that classroom. Now they've got to take that mindset and transfer over to the football field. So look for an Ozempic patch on the jerseys. Bigger but not fatter should help. Baseball games, American League, A's 4, Boston 3, White Sox 5, Cleveland 3, Baltimore 10, Texas 5, Tampa Bay 4, Seattle 1. National League, Nat 7, Reds 1, Mets 11, Pittsburgh 1, Arizona 4, the Dodgers 2. Interleague play. We had extra inning games, Philadelphia over Toronto 7 to 6.
In 12 innings, in 10 innings, it was the Braves over the Yankees and the Brewers over the twins. Detroit beat San Francisco. San Diego 7, Houston 2, the Cubs 10, the Royals 2, and Miami 12, the Angels 3. Ty Gibbs, the grandson of Redskins head coach and NASCAR owner, Joe Gibbs, is champion of Iowa. The younger Gibbs won the Iowa Corn 3.50 yesterday. Car number 54 beat Christopher Bell by just 2,500th of a second. Sports is news on Nebraska's News Weather and Traffic Station. Is there anything on the planet that people talk about more and watch less than the WNBA? I'm not sure if you saw this apparently over the weekend. Sophie Cunningham doctors are trying to reattach her head to her body after she was nearly decapitated on a play from, I don't know what player on what team. I'm vaguely aware of what... Team Sophie Cunningham plays for just to bring everyone up to speed. Sophie Cunningham's on Caitlin Clark's team. Sophie Cunningham has gone after players who have been roughly fouling slash tackling slash trying to. take a scalpel to Caitlin Clark. So Sophie Cunningham has been standing up for her teammate and getting in people's faces. And then she had the audacity to be an attractive, blonde, white girl to stand up for men not playing in women's sports. This has earned her the nickname Maga Barbie. She believes in God. Heterosexual. I don't know about that, but I'm willing to learn. And so everyone, what? Everyone hates her guts now. And so she, the team gets a steal. She's dribbling down and laughably slow pace. And some, well, that's a shot. Well, it is. So another player from the other team comes up there. And you have to appear like you're going after the ball when you're trying to foul somebody. The ball in this case, though, was Sophie Cunningham's Noggin. She just clotheslined this girl. Sophie gets up, gets in the face of this player who's ejected. And I don't know what other penalty happened against that player. But the player said that the only reason she was even called for a foul and maybe has to be suspended for a game is because she made the foul against Sophie Cunningham, who is white. The player who fouled her is black. And the black player said, well, this is just white privilege. So now the WNBA has an issue with not being able to define men versus women more on that in a second. And now you've got a player basically saying, oh, yeah, just we don't like white. We don't like white opposing players. White fans shouldn't watch the WNBA. White privilege. You took the girl's head off. It doesn't matter what skin color everyone is in this instance. At least it shouldn't matter.
But apparently it does. So that happened over the weekend. And then you had, Jim, help me out with this. Two guys I've barely heard of who played in the NBA. They're no longer in the NBA, right? They're kind of retired. They're in their mid-30s. These are two guys who took a look at the rules for the WNBA and declaring for the draft. And it just talked about players. It didn't specify gender. So these two players said, we are declaring ourselves eligible for the WNBA draft. One of these players was asked if he was transgender, and he said only as it relates to professional basketball. That's Royce White, 35 years old. He is a former NBA player, says he plans to enter the 2027 WNBA draft and identifies as transgender, quote, for purposes of professional basketball, unquote. This is also someone who brief, who was a Minnesota Republican Senate candidate. And then the other guy is Ennis Cantor Freedom. Remember him, he was the guy that declared his allegiance to the United States after being attacked as a... Let's see, what was it? There was a controversy involving his declaration of loyalty and fidelity to the U.S. having come from a foreign country. So he changed his last name to freedom. Something like that. Yeah, the name sounds familiar. I don't remember him as a player. He's a former NBA center, and he's saying the same thing. And they're saying, look, if we're not drafted, we'll sue for discrimination. I mean, they are pressing the issue as the WNBA won't say whether or not men would be allowed to play or transgender men who identify as women would be allowed to play. These guys are like, all right, draft us. I got some eligibility left. I'll make a few bucks. And let's do it. The WNBA Players Association said our members will not be used as political pawns. Well, then strengthen your rules. Yeah, and his Cantor Freedom played a long time in the NBA. He was out there initially drafted by the jazz, but he played for Oklahoma City. He played for Boston. He played for Portland. He was actually a very serviceable player and actually a guy that was impactful in the NBA. But... Yeah, he was born in Switzerland to Kurdish parents. He was raised in Turkey, moved to the U.S. as a teenager, and was embroiled in some sort of controversy, political controversy. And I know what it was. This is what it was. He, at the time, China had engaged in a massive media deal with the NBA, where they would stream NBA games in China, and that enhanced the value of every franchise. I mean, by tens of millions of dollars, he came out and said, those guys are bad guys. Those Chinese guys are bad guys. They're killing Uyghurs, and they're putting kids in sweatshops, and we should have no business with China. And that just unleashed a barrage of shite against Ennis Cantor Freedom. And he said, look, this is a bad country with bad people in it that do bad things. And I grew up in that neighborhood, so I know.
And that got everybody in the NBA all anti-innis-Catter freedom. And he was kicked off of teams. He's cut by teams, signed by other teams. He's a good player. But politically, because you know what happened? That got back to the big boys in Beijing. And they said, you either put a muzzle on that guy or we're going to shut off the games in China. You're better off killing a guy than speaking out against China. No question. But they pretty much said to the NBA, you guys either shut up Enos Cantor freedom or we're shutting off the NBA in the People's Republic of China. He might be the WNBA's problem if they don't try and figure out what a man and a woman might be. Hey, look, I say draft them. You will dominate. If you're the Minnesota Mercury or the Phoenix Links or whatever they are, draft the guy. You will go undefeated in the WNBA. You will set records for margin of victory. Put these guys on the team. If they think they're women. They need to take Clay Travis's offer and do the $10 million to play a high school boys team. Sure. Take the money. The best high school boys team would beat a WNBA team. Middle school team probably. Not a middle school team. I bet they would. No, not a middle school team. All-star middle schoolers from across this. The best high school. I mean, the best high school basketball team in the state of Iowa. And I don't know which one it is this year, but they have really good high school basketball on Iowa. Play the WNBA team, take the $10 million. But the smart thing would be to draft Enos Cantor Freedom. Because if you put him on your team, man, he's knocking people over like bowling pins. Congressman Cooter has died. Ben Jay Jones played Cooter. The Dukes a Hazard. And then the people of... Uh, Mississippi, where in Alabama, where did he, uh, he was a congressman for a Georgia. Hmm. Uh, he was a U.S. congressman. The people of Georgia looked at that guy who ran, they called him crazy cooter. on that show. He ran the little gas station, and he'd fix up the general leave for the Duke boys. He drove the tow truck. Yeah, he'd come out with the tow truck. Did he have him on the air once? He might have been on. No, not me. I think he was on the morning show after we had him on after he won a seat in Congress. Really? Yeah, ABC was shipping him around the country. See, I talked to Luke, John Schneider. I had him on once, but I never talked to Cooter. I don't think. I don't know. Maybe I did. But the people of Georgia looked at that guy. He'd drive the tow truck out there and said, look, guys, I told you.
You can't jump creeks just by yelling yaha and leaning back and pulling back on the steering wheel. This is a car. Yeah. It doesn't work like that. But you got to stop doing that. Somehow, 15 minutes later, it was ready to go. That was totally fine. Yeah. Cooter was good at his job. And the people of Georgia looked at this guy and said, you know what? I see a lot of leadership capabilities in Cooter. If he can fix the generally in five minutes, he can fix Congress. Served two terms in Congress. and actually challenged Newt Gingrich at one point. And so he was a member of Congress. Cooter has passed away at the age of, it's the 84, Ben Jay Jones, the actor known for Dukes of Hazard and the Dukes of Hazard. A. If you're going to be on one show, the Dukes of Hazard is a fine, fine show. Well, Fred Grandy is the one who blazed that trail. Yeah, Gopher from The Love Boat. That's right. He was an Iowa congressman for a long time. That's right. That's right. Anyone on TV today that you'd like to see in Congress? In Congress? Hmm. You can think about that. I don't watch a lot of Netflix. I don't watch a lot of regular TV. Although that's TV too. If it's on your TV, we'll call it TV. Mostly series. Here's what's going on in the... Here's what's going on in the Zonkers Customwoods inbox, Scott at kfab.com, and anywhere you are on a free Iheart radio app, send a message via the talkback, Mike. Tom emails about the Nebraska weight training program and says, I'm not falling for this BS any longer. So Tom hears Coach Ruhl say, oh, we're leaner and meaner this year. And he says, I'm not falling for it. Well, you're either going to see it or you're not. And then someone else here in the Talkback, Mike, has an assessment of how much weight the team has lost. The team lost 180 plus pounds of fat. I thought Raolo was like 200 some pounds. All right. So we got that going on there. And then just to get a full assessment of how KFAB Nation is awakened here on this Monday morning and how they'd like to start the week, we also got this unsolicited message in the Talkback, Mike. I'm Craig Evans. You're going to take that news. Here, take it. I'll feed it till you like a baby with a bottle. I got a nice and warm for you. I'm Craig Evans. News Radio 1110, KFAB. This is how you want to start the week, huh? Now we're making fun of our news guy? It's a loving impersonation. The only guy that gets to make fun of this news guy is me. He's either making, he's either impersonating Craig Evans or Hulk Hogan. I'm not sure which. That was a little Hulk Hogan in there. I tell you what, brother, I'm going to give you the news.
KFAB. Okay. If that's how you guys want to start this week, that's fine. We can do that. Lucy Chapman does time saver traffic. She provides witty banter. She's the official KFAB conspiracy theorist and also hates kids. Well, I'm glad you followed that up with saver traffic instead of just saying Lucy Chapman does time. Lucy Chapman should do time for what she wants to do to kids. She hates kids. I don't. So it's, look, I only say that because it's true. I know, but people come up to me. Do you really hate children? Yeah, I once said, here, hold my baby, and you chucked her across the room. I did do that. Oh, you just hate my kid. Right. After putting glitter on them. Oh, that's a whole different thing. That's my thing. I don't like glitter. I'd like to put you on this flight, though, Lucy, where they're flying from British Columbia to Toronto, and they eventually had to cancel the flight. Well, it's Canada. Because I think this would have happened in America, too, because flight regulations say everyone has to have a seatbelt on. Otherwise, we can't take off. If you don't have a seatbelt on, if we crash, your life will absolutely be saved, asterisk, if you're wearing a seatbelt. So this toddler refused to put on his or her seatbelt. The parent was like, come on, Timmy, put on your seatbelt. Come on. Come on, Brayden. Put on your seatbelt. Brayton won't put on a seatbelt. And so here comes to flight attendant. Okay, sweetie, you got to put your seatbelt on. No, I'm not. That's an excellent imitation. Thank you. And the child was standing in their seat and refused to put on the seatbelt. Eventually, all the adults looked at this and said, well, I guess there's nothing we can do. We can't take off. And by the time they taxied back to let these passengers off, It was too late, you know, the regulations about pilots, if we don't take off by this time, our pilot will be overtime by the time we land, and the regulations are that we can't. And so they all had to spend the night, another night at the airport or around there, because this kid would not behave. Well, what did the other parents say to these parents? I mean, surely there was at least one or two guys, probably. They had a few words for her, mother. Anyone who's had these kids, we understand every once in a while. They are a nightmare, but a good parent tucks that kid up under their arm and takes them out of church, the grocery store. The airplane. The restaurant. Hang on. Let me just tuck this kid on my arm and O.J. Simpson my way out of this. Now that's a reference to an old Hertz commercial, not anything else. Not what he did that one night in California. I'm jumping through the airport, jumping over suitcases and getting that kid. Couldn't they have just chucked him up to the overhead? He's just stuff him in the overhead? Yeah.
I got to tell you, it is rough on the other passengers in a plane. At least if you're in a restaurant or you're in public, you can walk away, but you can't go anywhere if you're on a plane. You just have to sit there and live with the screeching and the screaming, and it's hard. It is hard. There was a time, though, when my kids were little, that I really enjoyed the sound of... someone else's kid crying. Like, oh, I don't have to do anything with this. Jim, we have a fresh new political controversy in the state of Nebraska. It has to do with this new party called the America First Party. They've got a candidate that they're trying to put on the ballot for Senate. And the Republicans in Nebraska say this is not a conservative party. It's dressed up with conservative talking points, cracking down on illegal immigration, defending the Second Amendment, opposing abortion. However, according to the lawsuit... Says the facade crumbles under the slightest scrutiny. They look at the guy who's the sponsor for the America First Party and say this guy who is the Attorney General of the Omaha tribe. John Cartier is a well-known leftist political operative with deeply held leftist political beliefs. This is not the establishment of a legitimate political party. It is political sabotage. A calculated effort to maliciously confuse voters by hijacking a nationally recognized brand, inextricably linked to President Donald J. Trump and the conservative movement he leads, calling it the America First Party. So they're trying to get his Senate candidate on the ballot, and they're saying they're just going to confuse everyone. Now, why the lawsuit? Because Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evanan has decided not to intervene with the creation of the party. Now, here's why the Republicans are mad. They say Secretary of State Bob Evanan... First of all, on whatever legal grounds should deny this group on there at this point in the political process. But there are also accusations that Secretary of State Bob Ednan, who you might remember. was primaried out this past spring by someone who is more along the lines of the current leadership of the Republican Party in Nebraska. There's a whole fight between your longstanding country club type Republicans and your new Trumpy, burn it all to the ground, Republicans.
They're probably going to cause a lot of Democrats to get elected, to be honest. Maybe. So they say Bob Evanan is just doing sour grapes. See, I don't believe that. I've known Bob Evanan for years. He's a man of great integrity, and that's not his way. He's not a vindictive guy. He's a very intelligent, highly educated, articulate, passionate, good American. He ably served the office for eight years, and this is not the way he wants to go out. He's not this way. I don't know. We've never really had deeply ceded discussions about Donald Trump or the MAGA approach. And I personally think MAGA has been hijacked as a bad brand. I think the MAGA brand as it is is fine. Make America great again. Look them up. Look at what they believe. It's not crazy. It's actually quite constitutional. But I don't believe it. I don't think that's it at all. They can accuse Bob Evanant of anything they want. But this is, I would be, if there was real hard evidence to support this, I would be stunned. Well, Fnman says, he wrote, he agrees that this party was likely created to cause confusion. But legally he says there's nothing I can do. There is no other party in Nebraska that has the words America and or first in its name. So yeah, it's akin. It's in the sidecar of some of these Republican things. But. He said, I can't stop it, the America First Party. And Democratic Party chair, Jane Cleb, has her own problem because she says, well, the Republicans are doing the same thing. They've had, you know, Pete Ricketts and all of his people behind the scenes trying to establish the Nebraska Working People Party. And it's the same argument. It makes it sound like more of a Democrat liberal labor union party, but instead it's Pete Ricketts. And Jane Cleb says there's only one reason to launch a new party this late to divide the vote and create chaos. Voters see-through spoiler games funded by special interest. It's a fake, is essentially what she's saying. So the Republican Party is sued for theirs. I don't know if the Democrats are going to sue for theirs. The Nebraska Secretary of State's office, that's still Bob Evanan, he was primaried out, but he still holds the office. Said these parties have met the petition signature threshold. And now you've got a judge who apparently is going to take a look and there's a meeting later this afternoon about it. Can't we just get to the election and put the candidates up there? You got your Democrat, you got your Republican, you got your Libertarian, and whatever the legalized marijuana now party is. Well, the weed party could get 2.5%. You know, you can't dismiss these people. And in a three-way race, which is what it is. Now, we presume, Brett Lindstrom was smiling like a Cheshire cat in here on Friday. He's got his signatures. He's going to get on the ballot. If he wants. If he wants. which strikes me is why would you go to the trouble and the expense if you didn't want to see this baby all the way to birth? I don't know. But every little percentage point counts. And if the weed guy gets 2%, that's real. If this new party gets another 2%, that's real stuff now. The libertarians got 4% against Pilling four years ago.
So, I mean, those are the hard right types. They got, I mean, they're one of these people that say eliminate every single federal agency but defense. And they got 4% here. So don't dismiss these people. Or if you do, please do with caution. I have to tell you, some of the polls that are coming out. I can't believe in my heart of hearts, Scott, that that crazy lunatic up in Wisconsin has a 17-point lead in the Democrat primary for governor of Wisconsin, which is a swing state. They hate Thanksgiving in Wisconsin, and they side with her on trying to abolish it. This is not New York of California. This is Wisconsin, which has a lot of Republican representatives. And yet this woman, this Francesca Hong, who says, eliminate Thanksgiving, charge 70% state income tax, government grocery stores, health care for everyone, illegals get driver's licenses, you name it. Just check off the DSA website, and that's her. She's got a 17-point lead heading into tomorrow's primary. Yep. and down in Texas. You mean James Talarico, who believes that God is binary in Texas, has a four-point lead over Ken Paxton in the race for the U.S. Senate down there? Yeah, Tofu James Talarico, doesn't like steak in Texas? He says God's a woman. Yeah. He hates stakes and he wants an open border. Something that you said right after the primary in Michigan, which had a lot of these same conversational points. You said something afterwards, and I said, I don't know. Well, it turns out, Jim, and I'm going to tell you next, you were right. That's coming up next. Oh, boy, you're going to stick around for this. Last week in Michigan, this Abdul El-Sayed won the primary for the Senate as a Democrat up there, as a Democrat socialist up there over a more traditional Democratic candidate. And Jim Rose said, now you watch all these DSA candidates. They're going to start racing towards center ahead of the general election in November. I said, I don't think so. I think. that that side and a growing number of people who would traditionally usually formally be in the middle, they are liking a lot of these DSA policies. They like what they hear. Yeah, let's abolish this and let's tax them and let's open this and I don't want to pay for any of this. I think they like it. And you say, oh, you watch. Well, we didn't have to wait until October. This happened over the weekend. The, the. Democratic Socialist in the Democratic or in the Senate race in Michigan is now moving to the center. Even former President Barack Obama is involved here saying, hey, we got to bring people together. One team Michigan. Hey, we're all together for a common cause. Look, we had a spirited primary, but we got to be someone for every Michigander. And they are racing towards the middle.
Hoping you forget about some of those potentially unsavory political positions they held as recently as last Monday. Well, this is what they do. They have so little regard for the electorate. I mean, they have such a complete contempt for the electorate. They think that we're stupid enough to forget all that. Now, thankfully, the news media will be promoting commercials from Mike Rogers, the Republican up there. for the next 90 days, reminding people of all of this stuff and saying he can say anything he wants now because he's running for office. But when he wasn't running for office, he said this, which is what he believes. And it's the same thing with that lunatic in Wisconsin, Francesca Hong, and all of these others. Now, what we don't know is what Denise Jerome Powell thinks, because Denise Jerome Powell won't do interviews. And nobody has vetted her. She's running against Breaker Harding. Now, Brinker continues to ask the question, you know, what does she believe? We don't know. She's never run for office before. She's never voted for anything or against anything legislatively before. So what is, does she believe in this stuff? And if the answer is no, she needs to come out and do an interview on KFAB where they'll ask. As long as she feels like she has a lead in that second district congressional race here, she will not say anything. I don't blame her for that, but then we get what we pay for now. If you don't like what happens in Congress and how she gravitates toward the crazies in the United States House of Representatives, we got nobody to blame but ourselves because nobody has said, hold on, Denise, before we go further, what do you think about this? What do you think about eliminating the U.S. Senate? What do you believe about eliminating the Supreme Court? You believe in Medicare for all. I hope she comes on here and answers your questions. You believe in public ownership of grocery stores. All of this. You know, she's not here. You're talking to me. I thought maybe you'd do an imitation of her. The former Dodgers owner is backing a new professional show jumping league launching next year. The premier jumping league plans to establish 16 teams, and McCourt will personally guarantee $300 million in prize money over the first three seasons. According to Donahope, Bloomberg Radio. Is horse jumping where horses run around the obstacle course and jump over stuff? Or is horse jumping where people are jumping over horses? don't know these things. Good morning. Now, I don't think he's talking about three-day eventing, which is what you're speaking about, which is horses going over. Really? Little jumps and little swimming pools and things of that nature. That will not ever be a national sport. Trust me. I grew up with it. My brother was a hunter jumper. My mom was a dressage trainer. That will always be a niche sport. That explains the tights and the riding crop. Yeah, that I wear every day. There's Jim Rose. There's Lucy Chapman. Craig Evans there, Courtney Donahoe too. I'm Scott Voorhees. I want to see Lainey Wilson. She was just up at Sturgis. David Lee Roth was up at Sturgis this weekend. Did he have a walker? David Lee Roth. Not looking good. He is. He is an absolute dumpster fire of a train wreck right now. He canceled his tour but said, I'm still going to go to Sturgis. Right. And so I think some people enjoyed it just because they went in there with the lowest expectations of all time. The band sounds great. The guitarist is playing Van Halen songs and sounds like Eddie. And the band and the backup singers, they all sound great. David Lee Roth doesn't, he just kind of walks around the stage and mumbles a little bit. Diamond Dave, he lost a little bit on his fastball. He can't even pick up the ball. He's a legend, and he's in the discussion for greatest front man at any rock band in the rock band era. He's in the discussion. Yeah, I'd say that's right. I'd put him in the top ten. Anyone want to say who's better, David Lee Roth? As a front man? Yeah, Sammy Hagar. I don't know. Let me think about that. That's a good brain exercise right there. That's good mental floss right there. Guy put on tights, makeup, and we all grew up watching that going, yeah, that's back when men were men and women. I don't want all this transgender stuff like, yeah, did you enjoy that culture club album? You bet I had that album. It was great.
Right. It was, I don't know, a little weird. We had some great acts in the 80s. Yeah, sure we did. I got this email from Brian. So yeah, David Lee Roth is part of the best frontmans of any rock band. But these are my off-the-cuff nominations. Number one, Robert Plant. Number two, Roger Daltry. Number three, Freddie Mercury. How about Nick Jagger? And he's the number four, Bond Scott. Yeah, I absolutely. Springsteen? Well, Springsteen. Certainly it is the East Street band, but I'm thinking about, you know, he's a solo artist. If the name of the guy is in the band, I'm throwing it out. It wasn't called David Lee Roth and Van Halen. It's Van Halen. Brett Michaels. Not better than the rest of those guys. I like him. Oh, yeah, I'd like him. How do you not make Freddie Mercury the greatest front man in the history of rock and roll? I mean, the performance alone separated them. I'm not willing to make that argument. I might put Freddie number one. Maybe David Lee Roth number two. Okay. They were just so ridiculous. It was such fun. The Flamboyance. Oh, yeah. The Freddie Mercury flamboyance was in a class by itself. Such fun showmanship. And producer Peyton of the KFAB comment line and Chris Baker Show. He's not going to be here all week. He went and got married on Saturday. Married? Yes, married. Peyton is a married man. Congratulations to Peyton and Carly and their families. I am so awful. I wasn't able to be there, but we took our daughter back to college and got her all moved in on Saturday, and I couldn't be two places at once. Daughter wins. Is she in trouble? Who in trouble? Don't you dare. Don't you? The first question we always ask. I have half of mine not just to hit the button that deletes the last 20 seconds audio, but to rip this machine from the wall and beat you with it. What is the matter with you? Scott, I always ask that when people say we're getting married or we got married. I asked Gene Stother the same thing when she just got married. Are you in trouble? You don't get invited to a lot of weddings, do you? I officiate weddings. I officiate more weddings than I attend. Yeah, take that, atheists. Yeah. You know, people, you know, we're in the year 20, 26. They want to experiment differently. So I had to ask because that's what people want to know. Just miserable. I mean, here are these young people getting married so soon? Are they going to start having a bunch of kids? Because we, you know, we're down to less than two kids per couple in this country, and that's killing off the future workforce. So we're going to need at least four or five out of him. The only reason I'm still letting you speak. It's funny. It's funny and entertaining. I, uh...
And people are asking the same question. I'm trying to find this email. I just heard that ad again, and I wanted to get to it. It's some of this give and take here between, you know, the Pete Ricketts ads. He's a fake, you know, that song. Quit being a fake. And then on the other side, it's not a, you know, I'm Dan Osborne and I approve this message. It's a different group that's coming in there and hitting Pete Ricketts. And it's stuff like Pete Ricketts voted to raise his own taxes. No, voted to allow his own net worth to grow by not voting for a bill that would keep insider trading from happening among members of Congress, which is actually fundamentally not true, but, you know, look, ads are ads. I'm, oh, here it is. No, that's not it. Anyway. There was an email that said, I don't understand this shot against Pete Riggas. We were making fun the other day of Pete Riggins voted to raise his own taxes or voted, sorry, voted to lower his own taxes. That's the, yeah. And. Along with yours and yours and yours and yours. Pete Ricketts voted to lower everyone's taxes. It's not like he introduced a resolution to lower Pete Ricketts's taxes. Yeah. This is a Pete Ricketts bill. Only I get to have my taxes lowered. And the other ad that's very intellectually dishonest is when they say Pete Ricketts's net worth has gone up 30% since he was elected with a member of Congress. Here we go. Hang on. Brian emails and says, I heard your comments about the Osborne political ads. I have another one. that bugs me. One of the ad says Pete Ricketts's wealth is increased by 30% while in office. As a comparison, during the time he's been in office, the S&P 500 is increased by over 60% or up to 70% depending on the exact dates you select. My guess is most seeing that ad do not realize his increase in wealth was likely very modest. Yes. So, but this is some of the attack that's out there. He's been in office since the United States Senator since 2022, early 2023. Ben Sass left and Jim Hilling appointed. after he was re-elected and pointed Pete to the seat, then Pete had to run for re-election in 2024, and he's running for re-election now, or election and now re-election. But yes, if you look at your 401k plan or you look at your IRA or you look at any of your stock, if you have any stock at all, if you're in the market at all, your numbers are up probably higher than 30% since 2022. I mean... I think most index funds were up over 24% just last year alone. So that's intellectually dishonest. All you have to do is stand there on the street corner if you have some investment in the market and your net worth went up.
But this is a class envy deal. This is about he's an evil billionaire. He was born on third base and thinks he hit a triple. He's never done anything in his life. These accusations are just very cliche when you want a class envy angle in the election. He is a wealthy man. His family is very wealthy. They own the Chicago Cubs. They founded Ameritrade. But what they don't say is that Joe and Marlene, his mom and dad. They got married very young, and they lived in a one-bedroom apartment when they got out of college at Creighton University. And he started Ameritrade, and nobody was standing there with a gigantic safety net in case this thing didn't work out. Nor did they say that TD Ameritrade employs almost 10,000 employees. Not to mention if they've done well for you in your stock portfolio. Which they have. Especially in the last couple of years, it's going to hard not to. then they've made a lot of people, well, you know, a pretty good amount of money. Nobody was standing there when he said, I'm going to start a business where you can make your own stock trades. I think you're smart enough to know how to buy a stock without having to pay a broker fee. And nobody was standing there saying, hey, you know, Joe, if this doesn't work out, don't worry, I'll back you up. Nobody ever gets credit in this country for wealth and success. They say, oh, well, you didn't do that. That's the old Barack Obama line. Well, you didn't do that yourself. Yeah, yeah, Joe Pete Ricketts did do that by himself, Mr. President. You know, you weren't standing there. You were passing out leaflets at some grade school when he was trying to build a company that now, as you say, Scott, employs thousands of people. So you can be envious of success all you want. But that's part of the social dialogue of those who have never done... anything. I know. And they didn't even have the, I mean, they could have been a little better and at least put some of their accusations to music as the Pete Ricketts campaign has done. I want to hear a catchy bluegrass song and all these political ads from now until the end of time. And I think it'd be funny for Dan Osborne just to come out and go. Yeah, you're right. I am a Democrat. They're like, ah, shoot, we're going to play that. Pull that thing off now. Play that commercial for another couple of months. Now what are we going to do? Well, he's admitted I'm going to caucus with the Democrats if I win. So what else do you need to know? Well, there's a lot I need to know. I'm Scott Voorhees. I read emails sent to me for Lucy. Emails like this coming from Linda via the Zonkers Customwoods inbox and says, Ask Lucy. If there's at least one accident on 680 northbound every day between Pacific and Dodge, it's so hard to stay in those narrow lanes with all the ruts. It is dangerous in that stretch right now, isn't it? Yeah, you don't want to drive on that, but everybody does. You have to. I understand there is a lot of people that have to, but you get a truck in that inside right lane. Oof. Forget about it. You're going down. Well, and then a lot of these vehicles have that, you know, the tool that allows your vehicle to try and stay in the lane. And if the vehicle feels like, hey, you're going over the center line, then it starts to pull. So now you're trying to hug the left side of that lane. So you don't scrape your vehicle against the concrete.
pillar over here or the concrete barrier and then your vehicle is like hey you're starting to cross the line let's pull it back a little bit now you got a big truck next to you you got your vehicle trying to crash into the barrier i just i don't i just walk i just walk everywhere now just drag your little car along behind you yeah that at least they did one thing right they finally closed that on right The 680 northbound. Oh, yeah, yeah. They had opened it for a while, which they should never have done. I also want to reopen that, is there a 680 northbound? It used to be, if there was a lot of traffic on 680, you could take the center street and then just blow past 400 yards of traffic and then get back on 680. Then they close that off. They're like, you can't just get off here like a pit stop and then come back on the interstate. Like, yeah, but it. Now let's go to the Zonkers Customwoods inbox and the talkback mic portion of it. This is a great summation of a few things we've talked about this morning from our friend Good Gravy Ken. Hey, good morning and happy Monday. Morning. Say, I'm the biggest proponent. I love the United States. I'm a veteran. I'm the raw, raw guy for America. But once in a while I get down when I see people trying to get elected to cancel Thanksgiving and run around with somebody who says we deserve 9-11 and blah, blah, blah. And then there's a Roger Craig who reinstills my faith in this country, that there are great people, great things, and this still is the greatest country on earth. God bless him and God bless America. That's a fantastic message there. Thank you, Ken.
