The news out of Colombia keeps getting worse. Building actually collapsing on camera. This was a 7.4 magnitude earthquake that toppled buildings. The death toll currently stands at 73, but it's going to get much worse. There are many people still trapped under the rubble. They said that there were people felt this earthquake as far away as Venezuela and Ecuador. And we do know of at least a couple of deaths in Ecuador that have been reported. as well. And this is unfortunately like we saw in Venezuela a couple of weeks ago, this news gets much worse before it gets any better. Good news on the heat front here. We're set for a cool down this week, finally. A gradual cooling trend will lower temps across much of the area this week. Beginning today, temperatures will dip slightly, roughly 1 to 3 degrees, and then progressively drop throughout the week. Interesting, they said that some more moisture is coming in tomorrow. Some areas in the high desert like Barstow and Victorville could get some thunderstorm weather tomorrow.

One week ago, Trump was on the verge of ordering a return to major combat operations with Iran, but now he's backing off of that and will choose to use his economical battle arm. Well, that's the latest. He referred to it as low-keying it. He said in an interview with Axios, we're only semi-negotiating with them being Iran. We're just watching Iran with its huge inflation and the fact that they have no money. That's what he says. I mentioned last week, Puerto Rico has shut off some of their water supplies, holding 48-hour water supply shutoffs and rationing throughout San Juan in areas of that. About 180,000 households have undergone those shutoffs. Now the governor, Jennifer Gonzalez-Colone, has said that they began. that they will be working with federal agencies on all of this. There was a huge pipeline that burst in June that caused some of the problems. And then July was the driest month on record for San Juan, more than 120 years. Fourth Haasd on record in the Capitol. So they've had massive drought on the island as well. A awful story out of... New York, a woman and her five-month-old daughter died when a boat capsized near Liberty Island. This was in New York Harbor, obviously. It was on Saturday night. The boat's captain was arrested and charged initially with 13 counts of reckless endangerment. Just don't know, but this woman, Sarah Sanchez 27 from Queens and her baby daughter, both taken in critical condition to the hospital and pronounced dead there. This was a 22-foot bayliner pleasure craft that overturned in the harbor about 1025. Twelve people were on the boat were rescued before the police arrived and were taken to the hospital. They were pulled the mother and daughter from the water by police divers but did not make it. There was a second story about a boat in trouble that involved Mark Zuckerberg and their separate stories completely. I made the mistake of connecting them when I was reading through it last night. Mark Zuckerberg's yacht was in Alaska. There was a small dingy nearby that called for help because it had run out of gas. They weren't sinking. They were just dead in the water. Mark Zuckerberg's staff on the boat, he was not there. Mark Zuckerberg's yacht staff said they never heard the distress call, so they didn't go to help. And it was a cruise ship nearby that apparently helped the small people. I mean, not small. No people are small. Mark Zuckerberg thinks that. I meant that they helped the people on the smaller boat. Speaking of Mark Zuckerberg, did you read his 6,500 word essay about AI?

Me neither. He passionately, allegedly, defended the use of AI in this essay, called for regulation in the U.S. and globally. This essay was timed to the announcement of his company's new open source version of its own model, Muse Spark. He says we should not be afraid of AI. And he says that... That makes me right there afraid of it. The guy who's behind the machine is saying, no. Nothing to worry about here. Let me think he protests too much. You should get back to being, you know, the guy who signs the check for all those lawsuits that have addicted the children to your social media. Speaking of which, that's right. Hundreds of millions of dollars. Taylor Farms, of course, very associated with the cyclospora outbreak, is now recalling several prepared products because of a salmonella outbreak. In this case... Taylor Farms says that the products that they've made with jalapenos include pico de gallo salsa and guacamole distributed to national retailers Walmart Target in 26 states. So they are recalling those. Taylor Farms says they're not aware of any reported illnesses linked to the products, but that they are doing this out of a... An abundance of caution, as they say. Kim Kardashian's home got broken into. It's hard to call this place a home. They just had an aerial shot of it on the news. It's a compound. It's a massive compound. If you don't like your family, move into a place like this, you won't see them for three to five years. Like it is massive. How many homes are in this thing? Anyway, a guy has been arrested, burglarizing her Calabasasas area home there. Apparently, he loaded numerous items into a vehicle at the property. And they got him for stealing a vehicle and other valuable items from the residents. If you care. Well, she got kids. That sucks. We mentioned earlier that nature is trying to take back what we have stolen from her. And in this case, a big old black bear took off in a swim in a pool in Sierra Madre yesterday. Captured video of the bears who was swimming in the backyard on Chaparral Road. He's lounging in the pool for a few minutes before he pulls his enormous. We don't have to shame him, do we? No, we don't. Enormous body out of the water. He's got to stock up for winter. It's right around the bend. Was he just taking a break? Because he's not going to find anything in the pool that he's going to stock up for. You know, water. You need water, Gary.

You don't want them. I don't want them drinking pool water. It's 110 degrees. I know. I want him to cool up, but I don't want him drinking that water. Drink the water out of the hose and get lead poisoning like the rest of us, Ted. And then second, there was a mountain line in Studio City. Guy named Chad Landers. Sounds like a made-up name. Sounds like the guy that went undercover in the high school. Chad Powers. Chad Landers said he woke up in the middle of the night, looked at his security cameras, and he saw a bunch of animals, a raccoon. A little while later, there were two coyotes in the driveway. And then at first I thought was a bobcat, but I looked at the other cameras and saw him next to my Chevy Tahoe, not to brag, and realized it was a massive mountain lion. He's lived in that neighborhood in 25 years and says he's never seen a mountain lion in that whole time. Here's the interesting part. That mountain lion's been there. You just probably never had a ring camera capture. That's the thing. I think about all the times I don't see the bears in my neighborhood. They see you. Yeah, they do. All right. Swampwatch. The president has decided that we're going to low-key this whole Iran thing. Nothing else has worked to this point. So President Trump says he's on, he was on the verge of ordering a return to major combat operations, but within an interview with the Axios, he said we're going to low-key this whole thing. He didn't express any frustration, any anger about how this has been an absolute cluster F on all accounts. Who's given him phrases like low-key? I have no idea. This is his quote. We are low-keying it. We are only semi-negotiating with them, which is confusing. We are just watching Iran with its huge inflation and the fact they have no money.

He went on to stress that Iran itself is in very bad shape economically. It doesn't have any money to pay its troops. The blockade that we have put in place has exacerbated the economic crisis for the Iranian regime. And at the same time, Trump said that with oil down to just over $75 a barrel, which still doesn't make sense to me why it is as low as it is. He said consumers are feeling less pain from the war. He says it's going to work out. It always works out. It's like a chess game. Except we don't know where the pieces are on the board. We don't know who's controlling the pieces on the other side of the board. And they're playing with pieces where... The queen and the pond do different things than they're supposed to be doing. He said all this? No, I said that part. Oh, I'm like, wow. He said it's a chess game. Oh, okay. Like, that's a pretty big, that's pretty thoughtful. Now, Iran, they came out with their own plans. They've been talking with Oman to figure out a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. And what they said over the weekend, Iran, is that. Even if they come to an agreement with Oman, they're not going to reopen it until the United States starts behaving. For example, there were a list of demands that Iran has been making rich. Never threaten nor insult Iran in any language. Permanently end the war against Iran and Iran's allies in Lebanon, Gaza, Yemen, and Iraq. and lift the naval blockade and withdraw military forces from the surroundings of Iran. So we're back. This is intractable. Mayor, Mayor, Vice President JD Vance, can you explain? I try to remind people that we're really in the middle of the game here. This thing is not over. It's obviously not at the beginning. We're in the middle of the game and we're applying a whole host of tools, diplomatic, economic, military tools to ensure that we get the best outcome for the American people. I feel quite confident we will get there, but we're still a bit in the middle of the game. There you go. You're only in the fourth inning. Hillary Clinton has weighed in about the socialist candidates gaining traction in the Democratic Party. And she says about the Republicans, it's going to be a very effective attack should the Democratic Party continue to ride these Democratic socialists. She did an interview, a podcast appearance with a tech journalist, Kara Shwisher, you know her. And she raised concerns Hillary did about the electability of Abdul El-Sayed. He was the one who we talked about last week, narrowly defeating the establishment-backed moderate representative Haley Stevens. This is in Michigan in that Democratic Senate primary. And Hillary Clinton said, you're not going to convince Republican voters in Michigan.

And the real fight will be how do you make sure people who voted for Haley feel comfortable voting for Abdul El-Sayed? And how do we get independence to feel comfortable? She went on to say, Hillary Clinton, and you can see that it's not just about Michigan, but the Republican messaging is communist, socialist. It's going to be a very effective attack. And it is. You've pointed it out that like... Democrat moderates that are welcoming these people, these Democratic socialists into the tent are kind of, you know, it's a dangerous move. I think it's a miscalculation. Yeah. Abdul El-Sayed. beat Haley Stevens in last week's primary. There's another big one tomorrow for governor of Wisconsin that will test the medal of Democrats to choose moderate Democrat or a very, very far left Democrat. But Abdul El-Sayed said he talked with Barack Obama after his victory last week. It was a really good conversation about what we need to do to be able to win. And obviously, this is somebody who knows a lot about winning Michigan. There's an important part that he's leaving out, which is Barack Obama, as much as people hated him, does not ascribe to the same values as the Democratic Socialists of America. And they can argue about whether they belong to the cause or not. But the things that they have espoused, the things that they have said that they want, you got to trust them. Well, you look at that woman running in Wisconsin. What is her name? Oh, man. She went from being out and proud, and yes, it's socialism. I mean, full bore. Like. talking about it left and right to now that she's in the thick of it in this governor's race, she's couching her language. Francesca Hong. Yeah, she's couching her language. She's kind of moving away from just calling it socialism. Right. Because they've gotten in tall. They've tested it. The Republicans have tested the attack, and it is successful. And the Democrats have tested probably calling things openly socialism, and that's not as successful. In fact, a recent Washington Post... found 55% of Americans would not consider voting for a socialist-backed presidential candidate. And that is the political reality. Hillary Clinton is urging the Democratic Party not to ignore. Hillary Clinton and James Carville become the voice of reason. Well, they're moderates. They're moderates. All right. Why? Kay Ivey League schools, top colleges and universities attract, I should say, impostors posing as students. Would you do this? You know, Hillary Clinton's very smart. She's just not likable. There are stories that come up every once in a while about somebody who's posing as a student and going back to school. The more egregious ones tend to be people who go back to high school. and try to pull off the fact that they're 33 years old but look undeveloped and therefore passes a sophomore or a junior in high school. That's a problem because then you're talking about an adult with minors. Yeah, that's weird. But at college, it's a little different. It's not weird. I mean, it's not letcherous or has the ability to be seen that way. It's just kind of odd. William Curry. was living at campus dorms at Stanford for 10 months. William is from Birmingham, Alabama, and he was posing as a sophomore studying pre-med at Stanford until authorities caught up with him. How did they catch him? He was removing a television from one of the dorms. He had... When he was questioned about it, he had admitted that he lived in at least five student residences over the course of one calendar year, that he harassed multiple students, that he was repeatedly removed from campus only to immediately return. A guy who was writing about it for the Stanford paper wrote a book. and said that one of the freshmen that knew this guy referred to him as, quote, effing normal as S person who would bake brownies with other students. He, the guy who was the stowaway, the imposter, told that same Stanford paper that he honestly couldn't say why he chose to pose as a student. He said he was just living the normal Stanford life, meeting people socializing as you do in college.

There was a professor at the University of Queensland Business School who has studied impostors and said that prestigious universities like Stanford are obviously powerful status symbols. He said, for some people, pretending to belong to places like Stanford offers access to admiration and opportunities that are otherwise out of reach. Jonathan Walton, I want to get him on the show. He is a podcaster and he wrote Anatomy of a con artist, the 12 or the, excuse me, the 14 red flags to spot scammers, grifters, and thieves. Jonathan Walton got into doing all these podcasts on scams because he was scammed himself. It tells a good story. But he says that impostors and con artists typically embrace their modes of behavior from a young age. They get a thrill from scamming people or created identities, telling lies, tricking people into doing things. Sometimes it doesn't even involve giving them money. Just having the power over telling somebody to do something and they do it to them as like a drug. So this is a weird thing because I have often said to myself and no one in particular other than that. There's a weird personality trait that comes with people who like to perform, whether it's on stage or singing or however they do it. Like the entire industry that is Hollywood has whiffs of this. This idea of creating these fake identities, of telling lies, of getting people to do things. Like you said, it doesn't always have to be just handing over cash. That doesn't have to be the scam all the time. Well, and then when you layer it with somebody who's looking for community, college campus is perfect for that. They said that this guy in particular, William Curry at Stanford, was a serial manipulator, that he just lied all the time. Lies flowed from his mouth as easily as spent breath, building upon one another to erect a tower of elaborate deception. Constructed an alternate reality than forced those around him to inhabit it. Stanford at least took some of the responsibility here and referred to what they said were gaps. in the protocols out of this guy. It's one thing, you know, when we were talking about this earlier, it's one thing to say you're going to go on campus and walk around campus with a backpack or whatever and sit in on a couple of classes and make it look like you're a student there. It's another thing wholly to be able to talk your way into living in one of the dorms. Yeah, exactly.

This happened at Harvard, too. In 2011, a 27-year-old, Abe Liu, posted as an undergraduate student, staying in the dorms, eating at the school cafeteria. Listen to this quote. It's going to break your heart. He said, my mistake was being lonely. He said, I just played off like I was a student. It got addicting. It got fun. The first lie is like, oh, I'm a student at the college. They always want more. So you start telling a lot of little white lies, he says. And then you find yourself integrated into that society. There is a movie. I'm sure there's going to be a movie about this case from Harvard in 1963. We're telling you about guys and gals who go to college campuses and pretend to be, pretend to be college students. In 1963, in Harvard, the school was racked with an assumed identity scandal there and even more extreme case of fakery. where a student attended Harvard University, not by lying, well, definitely by lying about who they were, but actually assuming the identity of one of their high school friends, because the friend had been accepted to Harvard, but had decided eventually to go to a different school. So this guy comes in, assumes their identity, and goes to Harvard. When the scheme was uncovered, the student was expelled. Harvard's faculty voted to expunge their name from the records. That was the first time it had done so since 1936. And then, I don't even know if we were aware of this. Add this to the whole documentation. You know, in the 1960s, there was a short-lived TV comedy. It was called Hank, and it was about a guy who really wanted to go to college. Couldn't afford it. And he drove the ice cream truck around campus. And he would talk to the students he met and you'd find out who was going to be sick or out for a few days. And then Hank would rush in and sit in on those classes. It was actually a very, very sweet comedy. Yeah, I have a problem with the premise of that. From 1965. Okay. Timely reference. Yeah. I have a problem with the premise. Who goes to an ice cream truck that's feeling sick? And how many sick students could there possibly be? And who's going to tell the ice cream truck that their friend is sick? That's an odd episode. I'm assuming that was one episode when somebody said they were going to be sick. I'm assuming Hank had other ways to gain entry. It's Hank and his sister, orphans because their parents were killed in a car crash, much like any sort of Disney movie that you might see. I love a hero story that starts with orphans.

They said he, seeing that the best route to success was going to be through a college education, he attempts to illegally audit classes at what was then called Western State University, totally made up school. He was taking odd jobs. It said he ran a lunch truck on campus, not an ice cream truck. That was very big lunch trucks. So anyway, he eventually dates, get this plot twist. He dates the daughter of the university president. Of course he does. Of course he does, because that's the way it creates drama. Do you want to know how it ends? You want to know how it ends? Yeah, I know how it ends. Go. It's uncovered by the girlfriend's dad who then decides, even though he knows he's just an ice cream truck driver, that he's going to admit him to the school so he can achieve his dream of higher education. You saw the show. No. It does well on one of the exams and the university president figures it out and they offer him a full scholarship. Yeah, of course. That's how it ends. I wasn't born yesterday. It was only one season. I wonder why. 26 episodes. Remember when they used to do that? Yeah. Most recently there was, of course, the Anna Delvey case. She wasn't going to college, but she kind of worked her way into high society in New York. That was a good story. And the art scenes and got all kinds of write-ups and fashion and art and everything that she revolt, but had zero to go with it. I mean, she had whatever. She had some sort of the magnetic personality that it took to be in those places. but was more of a self-promoter than anything. That movie was really good. The drama miniseries, if you haven't seen it on Netflix, Inventing Anna. That's a Shonda Rhymes vehicle. It's nine-show episode, and it's really good. Yeah, I remember that. That was the young actress from Ozark played on a delft. That's right. Julia Garner. Julia Garner, thank you. Yeah, perfect. Perfect. She did so great with that. Why are you so fat? remember she had and the thing was she was never in it for the money and she said as much she was in it because she was power hungry and then said i'm not a good i'm not a good person um she said i'd be lying to you and to everyone else and to myself if i said it was if i was sorry for anything i regret the way i went about certain things so Where would you go to school if you could be an imposter? Or where would you go? Would you like go to a job? Or what would you do if you could just? This every day. What? I do this every day. I know, right? What do you mean? What would I?
