Sun Hub sent a scathing letter to over 300 politicians across the country last week claiming age verification laws are not protecting children nearly as well as lawmakers promised and that the laws are actually pushing users towards sketchier websites that aren't safe, rewarding companies that ignore the rules and creating new privacy concerns. Sounds about right. Yeah, Ron DeSantis, Attorney General James Uthmeier and more than 30 other Florida lawmakers received those letters. The company... called the laws performative, ineffective and unenforceable, and they say the regulations should focus on putting the responsibility in the hands of parents and parental controls on devices rather than restricting access. Pornhub says that when legitimate adult websites ask for age verification through driver's licenses, facial scans or financial information, many users just leave and then they search for websites that don't comply with the law. Sounds right. They say the law is rewarding companies that don't play by the rules giving noncompliant businesses more market share. Yeah, you want to go to a legit, trusted site like porn hub. Yes, they're a legitimate business providing a legitimate service. They're trying to play by the rules and they feel like they're getting screwed. Yeah, and I said... When this law was passed, there was also the question about how many people would switch to a VPN. Right. Because then you could just try to get around the whole age verification thing. That might be a little on the complicated end for kids who just want to log on and see some porn. Right. But for somebody like you, it works. Right, right. Yeah. Somebody a little more seasoned to how to navigate the internet, then you could just do that. But for people who just don't want to go through the... Aid verification. They're going to these shady sites and God only knows what's happening to their phone or their computer. Or their computer when they're doing that. Yeah. At least Pornhub is running a legitimate business where they're not trying to steal your information. Yeah, exactly. You're probably not going to get malware from Pornhub at some of these other sites you might. So it's an interesting argument they're making. I don't think it's going to go anywhere.
