New this morning, Israel's Prime Minister rejecting President Trump's announced deal for Gaza, saying Israeli forces won't withdraw from the Palestinian territory until Hamas disarms. It's bringing Fox's Jonathan Savage for the very latest developments. Pretty significant announcement from Benjamin Netanyahu. just over a week ago, President Trump announced that Hamas had agreed to disarm on condition that Israel withdraws its forces from Gaza. The president called it a monumental step towards lasting peace and security. But Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday, it's not going to happen. He said that Hamas has to disarm before Israel withdraws his troops and an indication of the lack of trust between the two sides. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that it couldn't be some fictitious disarmament. It had to be real. Any announcement from the White House or from President Trump reacting? Well, President Trump certainly appears to be continuing with this. There appears to be a commitment on behalf of the White House that things are going to keep going forward in this direction. So, you know, I don't think we've got any alternative right now, and discussions are going to take place between Israel and the United States on how they're going to move forward. Is there any update on reopening of the Strait of Hormuz? Well, yes and no, it's not open. Iran and Oman are continuing their talks to create a new system for shipping through the street. New shipping lanes, traffic management, that appears to be close. However, Iran has come forward and said, actually, we're not going to reopen it until the United States agrees to a set of conditions. According to Tehran, the US must end the war. They must lift the blockade of Iranian ports, withdraw military forces from near Iran, and financial conditions to lifting sanctions, releasing frozen Iranian assets, and paying compensation for war damage. Much of these demands were in the Memorandum of Understanding that was signed between the two sides a couple of months ago, but that subsequently collapsed. Iran clearly wants to go back to the MOU, and it wants compensation too. At this point in time, is that a big ask, even though... it's already been on paper allegedly.
I think it is a big ass. President Trump said the Memorandum of Understanding was dead. And, you know, they've always said in the Trump administration that things have to happen at the same time. All these things have to happen together. And it's not a case of we will do all this. And then Iran will reopen the straight of four moves. I think that the Trump administration, if you ask them, they would expect things to go the other way around, if anything. Do Iran's leaders think that they may have the president boxed in? I think some of them do. Some of them definitely believe that this is their most powerful bargaining chip, bargaining chip, and they don't want to risk President Trump walking away with the Strait of Hormuz open and Iran not getting any of the financial rewards, as they see it, that they believe they should get, the lifting of sanctions, the release of assets and compensation for the damage that has been done. I think they also believe that President Trump is going to run out of patience, that he may be willing to allow Iran's nuclear material to be buried in the ground and declare victory with some sort of agreement on Iran's nuclear future.
